Honestly why the A310 never succeeded is a question i ask all the time its not that much bigger compared to the A321XLR and yet can carry more passengers and cargo for more range, the 300 version that is, its perfect for smaller markets as well as airports that are congested.
An A310neo would be a great option for carriers needing a greater capacity of an A321neo but less than that of retiring 767-300ERs/A330-200s. Also a shorter runway performance.
Lots of criticism/ fear of these old planes but their safety record is not bad. Given good maintenance they will last indefinitely. Certainly thirsty but consider how much fuel one can get for the capital saving, particularly at the cost of fuel in Iran !
Believe it or not, but that 33 years old plane is one of the youngest aircraft among the other old MD-80s. However, only Iran air operates ATR 72-600 for short routes, which were built in 2017. Iran used to fly with modern aircraft, but not these days.
From ordering 3 concordes amd being the launch customer of 747SP and having about 60 aircraft in 1979 to operating 33 old aircrafts in 2024... That's what that damn revolution caused by jimmy Carter did to us Iranians...
Shows two things: 1. The durability and quality of the modern jet airliner. 2. The ingenuity of their parts sourcing network 3. How many countries are willing to help them evade sanctions.
İ flew with ava airlines and the service was amazing and the fact that we didnt even experience turbulence its crazy you should really fly ava airlines its amazing
A310 is actually a beautiful aircraft and by far was very advanced for its time. Pity only a few were made but this cemented the Airbus corporation to come out with great aircrafts. Use of old aircrafts are fine as they are over engineered as in the case of A300 can fly many cycles
Although I don't like their regime, we should remove a few sanctions from Iran. Once those planes get too old, people flying to and from there wouldn't get much of a chance to travel.
As long as they are maintained to current safety regulations and in top condition utilizing traceable replacement parts, no issue at all with them flying. Commercial aircraft are judged by flight cycles which comprises of one pressurization and depressurization event. How many hours it remains pressurized is not an issue. Another issue is when the aircraft went through its last "D" check where the complete interior is removed, the main body is inspected for fatigue cracking in every square inch especially around rivet joints. You can look up as to what a D check is required of each aircraft type. It is the most invasive and costly inspection preformed on an aircraft. Most carriers in the western world will retire an airframe right before it’s second D check is required. At this point many of these aircraft are converted to freighters if they are of the type in demand since they go through a complete strip down and rebuild with reinforced areas to accommodate weight differences of cargo. While in the nude the aircraft goes through its D check before work begins for the conversion. Seating, galley and restroom modules are either returned to the carrier from where the aircraft came from if needed or sold off as replacements after a complete inspection and or rebuild. If there is no need for this equipment it is usually sold for scrap.
