straight six turbo in a 240z brings me back to my first ride in one, back in 1993. Stock engine with a junkyard turbo on it. it certainly kept the neighbors on their toes in M'boro TN
You guys need to do 3 things before it's maiden voyage. 1 Pin the pintake cam gear, 2 change out the main crank bolt with a higher grade steel one with red loctite cranked to the moooon and lastly, upgrade your valve srpings tot he KM springs or CDI ones to prevent valve float. PM me if you need info. I'm building a Om606 as we speak. Borg warner 257 sxe twin scroll manifold. 7.5mm 603 pump etc etc.
If you guys ever need a more aggressive set of Cams for this engine contact Crower, it seems they did a set once and they always keep their grind profile files.
Dude. I've fantasized about this same swap for years. Thank you for bringing it to fruition. A part of me feels fulfilled. :) thank you thank you thank you!
I think we all have under estimated a build project before. 10-15% of the build take's 60-80% of the time. especially when adding new fabrication to the vehicle besides an engine swap. I also liked the comment about getting old and wanting to be comfortable when driving a performance car. I can relate, making sure the suspension, seat and climate control is addressed, when planning a current project.
Suddenly I see this 240D turning into a freshly detailed daily/show car. You say install like Air conditioning, stereo system, ice as well as sound deafening sounds promising of a #Sema21 build. Wish you and team the best of the Z car.
@@lexusoregon631 if you message me on IG - toykoz32 i can send you a few photos i have. Never thought to take many pictures or video when i was doing it 2 years ago. Once i get the car back from paint i will probably pull the dash and do a video.
Just a tip. In case you guys haven't thought about it, the stock batteries in these diesel Benz are usually group 49. Probably the smallest you should run. Those starters and glow plugs get hungry.
This channel is going to take off one day. All the pieces are in place, just need youtube to catch on. Very good content guys. Great quality and speed of these builds
Hi From France. Better you let glow plugs get hot during 30 sec, before try to start. And you can let glow plugs running during 2-3 min when engine is running. You will reduce calamine.
Wow that sounds amazing, I have an 87 mercedes 300sdl with over 320k miles on it and it still runs like a champ. It has the om603 in case you were curious and my goodness the om60x series is amazing including the 606. I'm thinking of either upgrading my 603 with 606 internals or swap in a 606 eventually but I dont have the money for that yet. Love the content and keep up the great work!
I believe the w209 mercedes black series mounts are the same style you have there, just way more rigid. And pretty cheap! Should be able to take the torque better. I snapped the driver side of the mounts you have with a 4.3 v8.. you got a mountain of torque
that thing sounds epic, I love keeping up with your builds. I've followed your 240 build since the beginning and it is always interesting to see where you guys will take it next
250 Deg oil cooler in front of your Air to Air inter cooler may be a bad idea. Need to put it off tho the side to keep your IAT’s down.,,,,,,Incredible cool build!
We played around with it a lot, in the end there was no way to get the oil cooler anywhere else without it looking absolutely ridiculous. Realistically, the actual air temp difference on the back side of the oil cooler should only be a few degrees, it won’t be pumping 250* air onto the IC. I’m hoping having it biased on the far side of the core from the inlets and outlets should mitigate it too but we will definitely be keeping an eye on IAT’s
This is an amazing build video. I really like your voice, glad you speak about so much. just subbed and will be following it further! can't wait to see you throw down!
Dudes I love your videos I really wish I had the space to toy with my old e39 m52b28 bmw it has semi forged internals from factory since it's eu specked at least that's what the documentation said but I have no space and in Argentina everything is worth an arm and a kidney. Love your videos God speed to you
Nice to see the om606 has finally been found world wide, they are a unbelievable engine for a diesel, but what I want to know is what is the little 2 post lift called?
Diesel engines in cars that never had diesel engines from the factory is cool.
Your mum is cool.

FYI the factory exh manifold is cast steel (not cast iron), it welds just fine. No preheating necessary
Eh, doesn't hurt anything either tho
@@md4luckycharms on thick stuff its much easier to weld once its already hot :D
Good to know. I still ended up brazing it for the Datsun just because I couldn’t figure out what material it was.
The best sounding diesel engine in one of my dream cars.. Priceless
Oh yes. The Parker push -lock system is sooooooo nice. No leaks and it's good to like 600psi with no clamps
Over here excited to k swap our 280z thinking it'll be unique, y'all are crazy doing this. Big respect and excited to see how this project turns out

Pair up the cylinders, run 2 small turbos (1 per 3 cylinders) into 1 big turbo to compound.
To get a better flow you could have used the egr hole to the wastegate and make a proper nice flowing adapter to the turbo.
I'm in love for your Datsun... 2jz diesel motor... Will be the beast... Great project for shore... Congratulations... From Portugal 🇵🇹
dang one of those diesels in a 4x4 Yota pickup would be pretty amazing..cool build though!
I miss the 2.3l (i have a turbo 2.3 ranger) but the OM606 is just...wow. i need one.
wasnt to stoked on this build but now i wanna see this thing rip . nice work guys
Can't wait to see how this thing runs on the street! I bet it will be a surprise ripper!!
Vintage Air has a nice system that fits the 240z well, thats what i fitted to mine. I also did a swap but a V6 Vg30det from a Nissan Cima.

OM606 is so cool! There is almost always one or two of them at drift events in Sweden/Norway (Y)
Here in finland they drift them at snow on street

I honestly never realized that you can run a diesel without the intake manifold. Cool.
i do it every time my manifold is off, the valve slap from the valves closing makes it sound like a ww2 fighter plane
diesel engines are fuel controlled not air controlled
I always enjoy a good Z project, my second card was I was 17 was a 260z. I sure miss that car. Let up the good work and cool project.
