    It's a good idea to put a bright paint witness mark on the threaded rod so you can make sure you're not unscrewing the rod itself when you think you are lowering the plate

    Thank You So Much for the repeated disclaimer and warnings about the dangers and safety of the pounds per pressure of the coil springs. Just like you said, "Easy but Safe!"

    Nice workshop, m8. It makes my garage look like a tent! But I can still get my MK 11 in! Love the old Morris!

    It's just a normal socket, cut in. half, with a piece of tube welded in the two halves

    This looks a lot safer than using spring clamps.
    I'm going to be doing this on my XJ6 which has the same or similar spring setup.
    Thanks so much, this was the one thing that I was concerned about

    Great video and tips on removing the springs. Did you build the socket extension?

    • @racecraftqldaustralia5633
      @racecraftqldaustralia5633  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I did, I cut the original socket in half then welded a piece of tube between the two halves.

    I have a 1930 ford with '67 jag mark 2 front end. Can I just cut the springs? If so how much? Or what weight springs should be used?

    4:30 you are checking heights etc. That is straight off the hoist, yes - with zero settling of suspension, springs, etc? What was the height like after a few days? And, what suspension height are you aiming for, and where are you measuring it? It actually looks too low, but is hard to tell.

    • @racecraftqldaustralia5633
      @racecraftqldaustralia5633  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The springs were used springs so the vehicle didn't settle any lower. This not a Jaguar and weighs only 700 kg over the front axle, some 300 kg less than a Jag.

      @@racecraftqldaustralia5633 Thanks for the reply. I had assumed you were getting new springs made, hence the q on settling. Also - for the height, did you use the "eyeball the lower arm" method, or did you take measurements? I am fitting one to an old Ford, and am leaning towards measuring the bottom of cross member (obviously i need to take into account height of my tyres compared to factory Jag).

      Hi Dean, unfortunately I can't be much help with springs. I used a second hand pair a friend pulled out of a Jag that was lowered and needed to be raised back to standard height.

    Where to buy the lower springs?

  • @viper92086

    Any chance that you have the OD and height of the uncompressed spring?

    • @racecraftqldaustralia5633
      @racecraftqldaustralia5633  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, sorry I don't they were used springs I got from a friend who wanted to return his Jag to standard height. From memory they were 2 inches shorter than springs I took out. Outside diameter was the same.
