The clean tap water in Colombia is a big bonus for me. I feel much safer in Colombia than I do in Mexico. I have traveled all over the world and there is a reason why I decided to settle down in Medellin.
Oh yeah mate it's a MUST have for any place I'm going to live long term - having to constantly worry about getting bottled water drops the city down considerably in my books.
Yeah, it's just like cherry on top.
just got back from Cartagena....3 third time there, and 2 times I've had horrible stomach issues. Ditto for Barranquilla. The water in Cartagena and Barranquilla can wreak havoc on the stomach of this gringo. It makes it difficult to want to live there....despite me really wanting to.
Really? Which part of Mexico specifically?
I'm surprised to hear this! I went to Cartagena and Medellin for my first trip to Colombia and I felt fine after drinking from the tap in both cities@@jonasnight
This was another video I really enjoyed making. Colombia isn’t perfect, but it’s a vibe. 😊
True - it's not perfect but it's a hell of a lot better than what's shown in the general media lol
Keep the great quality work! From a Colombian, Medellin based, these guys are telling the right info
Cheers mate! You know that when a local agrees with you, you're doing something right! haha
Thanks, my friend!
The tap water in Cuenca, Ecuador is notorious for being clean. You can drink directly from the tap.
Awesome, thanks for the info!
Thanks for all the videos
Glad you like them!
Nice work gents, keep up the good work
Thanks, will do!

Thanks for the info legend!
Cheers legends! Montevideo also has potable tap water 🇺🇾
Wow really?? I wonder if you can drink the tap water in Buenos Aires too then...
I love walking the streets of Medellin. In the last two months I've walked 204 miles.
WOW great effort - what a journey lol
Bogotá water is crisp, clean and delicious, straight from the tap. The states are a car culture unless you live in a place like Manhattan, but Colombians love to be fit and love bikes, gym's and extreme sports. Also its not always cold in Bogotá, its chilly ar night yes but during the day its perfect, like an air conditioned house in the ststes. "The only risk us wanting to stay" la tierra querida ❤❤❤
Exactly! I love that slogan, such creative marketing hey!
@@AKJoel it def fits 😁
It does get pretty cool at night in Bogota (bordering on outright cold). A sweatshirt definitely comes in handy there.
It's cold but it's not extreme lol that's why I gave the Minnesota comparison! lol
Just comeback after 3 weeks in Medellin and this time I specially stayed in Centro , absolutely safe no problem at all
Exactly! I've heard the same sentiment from locals. Fine during the day but at night it gets dangerous.
@@AKJoel yeah till around 9 its ok but after that no rush or public on streets and it looks like dangerous but I never tried to be outside after 10
In the Ecuadorian Andes as well water is usually safe to drink.
Interesting, thanks for the comment!
How are you brothers!!! Miami Fl here
Hey Andres! Thanks for joining us for the Premiere!
Jacksonville is better
What’s good my guy. Saludos! 🖖

I can just share my experience. This summer, I was in Medellin with my two children and Colombian wife. My wife warned us that even Colombians don’t drink the water. My children and I did anyway. We all got very sick. And I don’t mean not feeling well for an hour. I mean ruining our trip sick. Going to the hospital sick. Even continuing having problems after we got home sick. You can do what you want, but I am telling you even my in-laws (Colombians) were tells us that they don’t drink the tap water.
Hey Ken - I'm not sure what happened to you guys and I'm sorry it did. I'm not discounting your experience, but just offering some further information for anyone who may be reading - obviously they can make up their minds.
Here's three articles confirming the tap water in Medellin is safe to drink:
www.medellincolombia.co/general-information/drinking-water-in-medellin/
www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g297478-i6346-k11161853-Water_in_Medellin-Medellin_Antioquia_Department.html
www.twoticketsanywhere.com/tap-water-in-medellin/#:~:text=Yes%2C%20it's%20safe%20to%20drink,matter%20where%20you're%20living!
Furthermore, I've been drinking litres upon litres of water straight from the tap in Medellin for 2 years and it's been completely fine for me.
Once again, not discounting your experience and it sucks that your trip was ruined!
wow that really stinks, this is first time I hear this. But yeah, you can't be too careful.
Have been going to Colombia 1-2 times a year since 2008, visiting Medellin, Barranquilla, Santa Marta, Cartagena, Guatepe, Bogota, and on and on, and have never gotten sick from the water anywhere.
you drank the water on the coast?? wow brave man haha
No, I was replying to the comment by @hoghunter8229 - he said he drank the water on the coast and I was surprised - I didn't think that was safe!
Suriname and French Guyana have potable water in South America too
Awesome thanks for letting us know!
Just spent 3 days in meddlin and i had more cardio walkin the slops than 2 hr gym sessions
hahahaha it's like mountain climbing in some parts!
In Bulgaria you can drink tap water too. And even streets of Santa fe, Bogota in friday evening look safe
Bulgaria, interesting! Do you know if it's the same all over Europe?
@@AKJoel The tap water throughout most of Europe is completely safe to drink
Tnx 4all information re Medellín but u do not mentioned safety issues 4 tourists which other videos cover every day?
We've made a few videos on safety but to be honest most of the other channels overplay the issue to increase fear and get more views. We're not about that.
I understand that there were two earthquakes today in Manizales which were felt in Medellin 😮
True, it's crazy we filmed this like 2 weeks ago and there's been 2 or 3 earthquakes since then
The guy on the right said 🇨🇴 doesn't get earthquakes, yet they just had one.
That's true - I take that back lol
Compared to Southern California, it's nothing here.
@@MedellinBuzz Co-sign on the SoCal comparison haha
#5: true, but it's rising fast unfortunately
#1: absolutely my experience, and especially in rural areas that aren't guerrilla or narco controlled (and honestly sometimes even in these areas) I feel more safe than anywhere in the US; in these small communities everyone knows everyone else and their entire family history and anyone doing any crimes against visitors will be severely punished by the community, as they take immense pride in their towns and country and their culture of hospitality and will not tolerate the shame of having a visitor harmed in this way.
Muy buenos días Joel! ... Great video and great real life info. Just one comment today. I recently spent six months in 2022 in Mexico with my Paisa wife as we wanted to do some travelling and explore as await her Canadian visa. And after living in Colombia for a while and going there it blew my mind the percentage of the population that is obese.
(I know this is going to offend some people however it's just a sad fact) Now I've never lived in the United States but I know obesity is a serious issue there. HOWEVER it's actually mind blowing in Mexico, especially the addiction to Coca-Cola that has ravaged that country it's actually an epidemic there now, it's bad !! Everybody and I mean everybody from toddlers to grandmothers it seemed we're drinking Coca-Cola with every meal three times a day!! So Colombians beware! Since returning to Colombia from Mexico I've noticed big Coca-Cola displays with hundreds of bottles now in Exito and other grocery chains here in Medellin that I didn't see a couple years ago. Coca-Cola rant officially over now.
I, 100% agree it's amazing the percentage of people in Medellin that have a disciplined exercise regime and for sure the majority of people in this city are conscious of eating healthy food, no doubt about it. Tschau tschau!
NAFTA - the free trade agreement between the US & Mexico is the reason to blame for the obesity in Mexico.
“Today in Mexico, basics like water, roads, and internet connectivity are not available in some rural communities. But Coca-Cola is everywhere,” says Gálvez, a professor of Latin American Studies at the City University of New York.

The obesity shift has already started to occur in Colombia - and it's not just the fault of Coca-Cola, since Colombians have always had their own sugary drinks. It's largely the fault of the fast food companies and increased in the use of "canned" foods.
mexicans were never the smartest of the bunch.
I can agree on most but not on the tap water; as I live in a country that has really good water I felt safe drinking water in Bogota but I' m very dubious about Medellin; they told me not all barrios have the same quality of water. Now I' m in Cartagena and here we buy drinkable water like everyone else. 😅
interesting, in respect to Medellin I've lived in Poblado, Envigado, Laureles and Belen and drank the water in all places - no issues yet lol
Actually in Medellin we are proud of our public utilities company EPM, and if I'm not wrong, the won a price for the cleanest water in any city in Colombia.
Food is processed here in the states. Every time I stay in Colombia, I lose fat
100% heard this from many other expats too
Hello from 3rd most expensive city in 🇺🇸 San Diego California. When i hear the prices on rent and cost of living in Colombia, i feel dizziness 😩 & then i wanna vomit 🤢 😅
What are you still doing there mate?! Make the move haha
@AKJoel 1 reason & 1 reason only. My mom needs full-time care. I'm her legal care-taker and she needs basically around the clock care. I'm blessed enough to have savings and decent income coming in..but that's why my friend. Keep up the great work. I will be back hopefully inside a month. I would Love to meet you & Andrew.
@@shabadime10 you're a good son and a good man! Big ups for that my friend.
I think he wanted to say that rental and cost of living is notoriously expensive compared to salaries
Mostly correct regarding obesity in the States, but as a (former) Minnesotan I feel obligated to fact-check AK’s comment at 2:44. The northern states (including MN) have overall average to below-average obesity rates. The most obese states in 🇺🇸 are in the Plains, Southeast, and Appalachia.
I meant Minnesota is cold, not that people from there are fat lol I've never been there so I wouldn't know - I just know it's cold from watching the football games there on TV and watching Fargo lol
It's just after Andy says "especially in colder weather areas"
@@AKJoel No worries mate, I must’ve misinterpreted y’all.
Winters are horrendous… not much to do besides drink and ice fish. But the people do manage to stay in somewhat decent shape taking advantage of the outdoors in the spring to fall months.
Fortunately, we also have the indoor stadium now for 🏈, and most (but not all) of us do not have the accent from Fargo. 😅
Panama the water is very potable which i liked. However if you go to Colón then thats a different story.
Interesting!
@@AKJoel yep my friend check it out sometime it's pretty cool.
Vast majority of people getting drugged and robbed are either giving papaya or messing with drug or prostitutes. But even the prostitutes can be gotten safely. It's all about staying aware and not putting yourself in a compromised position.
100% - there's also 1 type of person who you missed - those that just aren't educated on the dangers of Medellin and things to avoid - like never walk on the street talking on your phone. They don't even know they're giving papaya cos they don't even know what papaya is! Lol
Colombia does have frequent earthquakes and not all towns have potable water.
Yeah in regards to water we're just talking about Medellin and Bogota
Is water flouridated?
Good question - no idea lol
Been in Bogotá for a dozen yesrs and not one incident, although one time they charged me too much for an águila, 😂😊
they charged you 3000 pesos instead of 2000? THATS IT! time to leave lol 😂
@@AKJoel it was 5000 😁
You bought an eagle?
Do you think that the food is better quality in colombia.
Yeah I believe so
Anyone ideas for earning income whilst in Colombia for the average guy, thank you
Get a remote job from the US or start your own online business
@@AKJoel Easily said than done mate, if only it was that easy, I haven’t got a clue where to start sadly!
Watch this, I made a video about it - hope this helps!

While I agree that most foreigners living in Medellín are not likely to be victims of violent crime (unless they are either overly bold or stupid), let's get real - there's a crazy amount of theft here. Just had my bike stolen earlier this week, and adding that to being burglarized two years ago makes twice in less than three years living here that I personally have been victimized. I also know a number of people that have had cellphones, bikes, etc. stolen from them. It's not just a matter of not "giving papaya" - you really need to be on your guard ALL THE TIME, and never underestimate the lengths thieves will go to here to get their hands on your stuff.
Damn that sucks and sorry that happened to you Juan!
You can’t drink the water in Cartagena or Barranquilla… ask me how I know…
Yeah all in the north of Colombia you can't drink the water - hahaha I don't even wanna know what happened to you!
@@AKJoel Yeah, it was bad. Very bad… cool channel!
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. I have been to Cartagena 4 times and Barranquilla twice and never had a problem.
Hey, what you said is not accurate. Colombia DOES have earthquakes!!! Especially the western half of the country.
haha we meant it's not as earthquake prone as some other parts of the world such as California. but yes you're right
Regarding the "in shape" Colombians, contrary to your comments, it's been my experience that the US Fast Food companies have caused a huge "fat shift" since I first started visiting in 2008. (Married a Colombian woman from Medellin in 2010, so have extensive experience in Colombia.) It's now a lot harder finding an "in-shape" Colombian man or women compared to my first trips in 2008. I saw this same "fast food- fat shift" in my visits to Europe and Russia and Ukraine in the late 90s and early 2000s, so it's not a unique situation to Colombia.
WOW haha regarding your comment "It's now a lot harder finding an "in-shape" Colombian man or women compared to my first trips in 2008." In Medellin most of the women I see are extremely fit, I hardly ever see anyone who's overweight.
Hog hunter you seem to be knowledgeable on different areas of Colombia.
I will be visiting in December
I would like to stay in 3 different cities .
I will be staying 3 weeks in each location.
Where would you suggest for a first time visitor?
glad you enjoyed it mate!!
