I met Lee while working at a bar/restaurant in LA in the 80's. We talked about what Fear was doing, what a class act. Gave me his autograph (I don't think I've ever asked anyone else). When he sang "The Impossible Dream" on the TV show "Fame", knocked my socks off. What an amazing guy.
Lee is a VERY talented musician in various types pf music. He is thankfully into Punk Rock and GREAT. Hell he is even more punk than me. Thanks to the divine power over humanity for the gift of Lee Ving to the best humans on earth punks into Punk Rock and Thank You Lee for your gift with Fear. I would be stoked to have a beer with you or with Fear. Bonafide singer sounds a bit odd unless you look it up.
Lee Ving's supposed extreme right views are part of a carefully crafted stage persona that was meant to be shocking. Fear was a shock band. They were trolls before the term was invented. The fact that so many people were outraged at Fear's lyrics is an example of Poe's Law.
Lol. How old are you? The band did not have extreme rightwing views. That's absurd. They went after everyone. No one was free from their belittlement. True punks.
Yeah, sorry... but I never got “extreme right-wing” out of their lyrics. Or extreme left for that matter either. FEAR’s whole approach was basically punk Don Rickles. They were pure attack-comedy. Anybody who got offended clearly had no sense of humor. It had fuck-all to do with politics.
Fuck all this idiotic internet arguing. Lee's a complete asshole. That's why I love him! A lot of his lyrics and comments were racist, homophobic and against women. Whether he was serious or tongue-in-cheek about these things matters little. He also took great pride in pissing off the conservative American family values types and punks, two groups who did and still do take themselves way too seriously. Rock on, Lee!
Looooooove Lee Ving. He's the fucking man. He's right about being the only bonafide punk rock singer. Unless you count Danzig but in those days Glenn was just yelling and not singing when he was with the misfits so...yeah Lee Ving is one of a fucking kind. 👍👍👍👍
i saw fear 2 xs back in the early 80s.i was in a few punk and metal bands, left Cali 10 yrs ago,and moved to bumfuk,Arkansas.i still play, but since moving to the rural south,i picked up banjo, mandalin, and soon a 3-string c.b. guitar, which i JUST discovered.(took to it like a fish ta water...after hearing Lee sing in THIS style,i may get more into this type of music.
It's no joke ... what it shows is that Lee has a very broad social range, the man is a bit of a Renaissance - he's more dangerous than many of the others performers of his era because he is a thinker and has real intelligence. You get it or you don't ...
Awww,,, wow xx Dunno what to say.Thank you dear. :DYes the 'Decline' is an awesome film.Dunno if its still up on YT. I think I have seen bits of "The Soul of A Man".I know Ive seen at least some of it .Youre awesome for even knowing who those people are. Most people who come 'round and comment on"punk" vids are morons and theyre hateful and get snappy with you.Thank you for being cool. I needed that this mornin.Really beautiful that you know about that film.Gotta find it again.Peace to you always
Fear was great until Lee Ving basically deserted Fear to pursue acting. Philo, Spit Stix and Derf had to keep working. Spit Stix drummed for several combos, including surf legend Dick Dale. Derf played in another band (I forgot the name) and Philo eventually began teaching. When Lee Ving started his Lee Ving Army I remember going to the Whiskey in the 90s, it was good but w/o the other orig. members, it wasn't great. Those other cats made Fear whole. Their charisma was missed.
Girl you've got good taste.I'm sure you've seen The Decline of Western Civilization. Fear's segment is priceless. Also notice you have a Skip James 78 on your channel. Have you ever seen Wim Wenders film The Soul Of a Man? It traces the careers of Skip James, Blind Willie Johnson and J.B.Lenoir. There's live footage of James in the sixties and the whole Lenoir section is Lenoir himself, who, by the way radiates the sweetest, most humble, most wonderful vibe. It's a really heart warming film.
think you missed the point of his politics, this is a quote from him "Yeah, that’s right! That’s exactly where I wanted it! I wanted the boneheads to think that I was completely serious". google it!
I thought this was gonna have Lee and The Dickies! (Stan Lee and Leonard graves Phillips). Anyway Lee, there have been other good punk singers.... Glenn Danzig for one. On a modern tip, Zoli Teglas from Ignite is another,
@nikto45 I like FEAR plenty well (enough to have 'em painted on an old jacket) and I'm a "liberal" if by liberal you include "libertarian socialist" - what's wrong with either? I mean last time I heard "Foreign Policy" I didn't take it as a shining example of pro-bomb everything sentiment, it sounded like a subversive tongue in cheek criticism of what we do?
txteabagger Love them all, maybe Joey Ramone can put up serious competition afterall The Ramones did pioneer Punk Rock and Iggy definitely he invented Punk Rock.
@metaller8 I'd like to see any of the afore mentioned sing like this 1:38. They're all good but cmon, be real. And you know what, all this time i knew he was a WOP haha

Lee Ving for President!!!
A true genius. I love Lee Ving. And yes, he is a true American and proud of it.
Lee Ving became a cool old man.
Haha! Agree with you on Beef Baloney. His ability to turn a scream into a sing on a dime was fucking amazing.

I always liked Lee's 'singing' in certain songs. Dave Brockie aka Oderus used to remind me of it sometimes.
Bwuaaaa! I remember seeing Lee back in the 80's in many Hollywood clubs.
I thought he was going to talk about the BAND the Dickies.
Seeing them at the same show though....!
He was good in Flashdance.
Ving is the man! And I love that painting hanging behind him. 👏👏👏
Lee Ving's supposed extreme right views are part of a carefully crafted stage persona that was meant to be shocking. Fear was a shock band. They were trolls before the term was invented. The fact that so many people were outraged at Fear's lyrics is an example of Poe's Law.
Right. "Carefully crafted". Got it.
....Say what?
Lol. How old are you? The band did not have extreme rightwing views. That's absurd. They went after everyone. No one was free from their belittlement. True punks.
Christiantodd1 right. “I believe I’ll have another beer” masterfully trolls everybody at once.

He looks like he should be in The Soprano's haha. Mobster!

I always get a kick out of Philo in the Decline of Western Civilization.
FINALLY someone gets to hear u do this!
@msinthrop At the end, there's a logo for the Dickies clothing company; it must have sponsored this, somehow.

Hey Lee. It's Tami. Derf's wife. Just wanted to say hi.
He was good in The Wild Life.
think you missed the point of his politics, this is a quote from him "Yeah, that’s right! That’s exactly where I wanted it! I wanted the boneheads to think that I was completely serious". google it!
I don’t know what was but I liked it?
i dunno who this old dude is but he ain't no joey ramone
Funny,he can almost be Belushi's twin.
Rip Lee ving
Lee, what about Joey Ramone? Greg Graffin? Milo Aukerman? etc
Don't know why he thinks he's the only good punk singer, but he is very good.
Loved how he kicked Tommy Lee Jones' ass in Black moon rising
Love Lee...but what's this got to do with the Dickies?
@templeofbone i'll buy that for a dollar!
what an old dude
He's like an upscale Vinnie Stigma
Ok..want to explain why the word "Dickies" is in your title? Lee was in FEAR...Leonard-Stan-Chuck-Billy-Karlos were the oriiginal Dickies.
You're not very intelligent, friend.
Looks like a goodfella.
Robert De Ving / Lee De Niro.
I thought this was gonna have Lee and The Dickies! (Stan Lee and Leonard graves Phillips). Anyway Lee, there have been other good punk singers.... Glenn Danzig for one. On a modern tip, Zoli Teglas from Ignite is another,
So, you think he's a boring fascist? Do you hate the records he made?
@nikto45 I like FEAR plenty well (enough to have 'em painted on an old jacket) and I'm a "liberal" if by liberal you include "libertarian socialist" - what's wrong with either? i think glenn danzig, iggy ,and joey ramone can put up serious competition.
txteabagger Love them all, maybe Joey Ramone can put up serious competition afterall The Ramones did pioneer Punk Rock and Iggy definitely he invented Punk Rock.
Don't yourself on the back to hard ... Corbin dart is still alive ...
@metaller8 I'd like to see any of the afore mentioned sing like this 1:38. They're all good but cmon, be real. And you know what, all this time i knew he was a WOP haha
WTF???
Or, "bonafide" singer jumps on punk bandwagon.
