    Totally agree. Jarvi brings Beethoven to its brightest standard. IMHO this version of the 2nd is much better than others around in TH-cam. In fact, I didn't know that I liked the 2nd so much until I heard Jarvi and the Kammerphilharmonie.

    The Symphony No. 2 has increasingly become my favorite Beethoven symphony., so uplifting and brilliant. many nuances, dynamics, signature melodic intervals., I simply Love it~! Thanks very much for this rendition it is very well received~!
    Being a French Horn player I would love to suggest Mozart Fourth Horn Concerto with Dennis Brain soloist~! God is Good it's only some people who suck.

    The recorded Beethoven offered here is some of the best we’ve heard in a long time: rhythmic, propulsive, and organically musical from start to finish…
    …but the orchestra’s stagily choreographed performance style is best left omitted.

    Superb performance. As others have said the camera work is outstanding and so is the audience - no clapping between movements, no coughing or dropping stuff during the quiet bits, in fact you'd hardly know they were there until the end.
    I'd go so far as to say that Paavo Järvi has become a finer conductor than his father. He has inherited Neemi's technical brilliance and command of the orchestra but without his tendency to drive the music too hard and play loud and fast for its own sake.

Not too many conductors convey their desires in addressing the musicians through facial sympathetic gestures as Master Jarvi has done. My observation.

It's a blessing though, that thanks to conductors like maestro Järvi we can still experience those ignored symphonies at live concerts.

    I find it annoying that at the first symphony 3rd movement he conducts it with observing all the repeats i.e. : aabb-ccdd-aabb where a and b are the two parts of the menuet and c and d are the two parts of the trio. Here, although the structure is same he dispenses with the repeat of the b after the trio i.e.: aabb-ccdd-aab. Why?
    I truly enjoy the musicianship though and will go on with the cycle. Thanks for the upload(s).

    • @Quotenwagnerianer
      @Quotenwagnerianer 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I assume because he thinks in a Scherzo the structure in the dacapo is different. It's a common misconception. 95% of musicians seem to think that in a dacapo you play without repeat.
      But if that were so self evident then why does Beethoven indicate in two of his sonata scherzi "Da capo senza repetizione"? My answer to that is that the normal case is that you have to play the repeats in a dacapo, and since everybody in Beethoven's time knew that it was not worth mentioning. He mentions the opposite case because it goes against the usual procedure.

    Crappy camera work! Like they didn't pay any attention to the structure of the composition at all, like they never heard it, and just pointed the cameras around and switched shots at random, without any regard to the music, without any consultation with the conductor, without any planning beforehand, seeming to say "look at the tight closeup we can get on this... oh, wait, look at THIS".
    If you don't know what you're doing, just point the camera at the conductor and sit down.
