Mixing Frame Generation with Dynamic resolution / upscaling tech like FSR or DLSS is almost always a recipe for a blurry, nasty disaster. Without high enough framerate to feed it, I would advise most users stick with one or the other depending on your resolution target.
Wrong, the blurry disaster was FSR. Did you even watch the video? DLSS and in this scenario PSSR are not a blurry disaster. We need FSR4 sooner rather than later.
Almost all of the games that use pssr have the same issues as fsr. Is it even any better than the newest fsr 3.x implementations ? It's honestly so embarrassing, that the massive increase in GPU power and RAM speeds didn't end up fixing any of the base PS5 issues

@what-di3vb It's driving me crazy :) It's weird because GOW 2018 was fine, no issues at all. Demon's Souls Remake was rock solid, and when Elden Ring comes out the input response is so unreliable.

I wonder if it would help to put the mode labels on color-coded backgrounds in the corners of the screen? So e.g. "Base PS5 Quality Mode" could always be on a green background, another mode red, etc., as a quick visual cue. The words would still be there but we wouldn't have to look at them as much. When watching these comparisons, I've noticed I spend so much time keeping an eye on the words in the corners to see if they've changed, and then having to think about which mode is which, when there are so many modes now, with so many overlapping terms. You're looking for missing words as much as the words that are there. Once I understand which modes I'm currently looking at, there often isn't much time left to judge the differences.
This update ended the quality mode on the base PS5, go to chapter 2 and see how the game got worse, shadows, contours, sand winds all full of artifacts. This is ridiculous, I thought Digital Foundry called attention to this. Now it's worse than at launch, it's impossible to play on a 65" TV.

Where is the video game industry trying to take us? The current state of affairs is rather bleak. The PS5 Pro is an unfortunate misstep. It is indefensible that, in order to achieve higher resolution and performance, we must rely on aggressive upscaling or frame generation, both of which introduce intolerable blur and input lag. This generation will likely be remembered as a significant misfire, and it is important for you to adopt a more critical stance toward these gimmicks, rather than remaining so deferential in your videos.
they are definitely getting some shekels from playstation. Modern Vintage Gamer has a much more nuanced and middle ground look at the ps5 pro wheras this channel glazes it to top to bottom whenever it can.
I think they should just remove the frame cap from the balanced mode for PS5 Pro on a 60hz panel, a 45 fps cap is already going to be unstable, you might as well just let it run at whatever frame rate it can achieve at that point. Overall it does feel like the team at Game Science is perhaps not super technical, as they have made some really weird decisions on the technical side. I feel like frame gen shouldn't be needed in the performance mode on the Pro either given the balanced mode with PSSR (which has a frame-time cost) already hits the 45 fps frame cap as it is. Remove PSSR and the cap and you might find it able to be close enough to 60 to be a better performance mode than something relying on frame generation to get there.
I'm so glad i didn't buy this game. No matter how good it's supposed to be the console performance is such absolute ASS that i would almost call it a scam.

This game has low CPU requirements on PC. It shouldn't be an issue for 60 fps mode. They just need to low the resolution and some settings to ease up on GPU usage. Nobody wants frame gen from 30 to 60
Who remembers the "good ol' days" where the only changes in the games menu on a console was audio languages and surround or stereo mode. No fiddling with graphics options, just load / insert cartridge or CD and play.
You do have to keep in mind that video settings does have some settings depending on the console and game. The ps2 and og xbox gemeration Back then you had to deal with fake wide screen with anamorphic or true ones on the Xbox. Then have the usual tweaking settings like gamma/saturation etc if the devs were kind enough to provide something like that, but you also had to fiddle the options for resolution lower than 480i to the rare native 720p or 1080i.
I agree. I think the only option for consoles should be resolution depending on the tv setup. The graphic details should be optimized default with no user input.
Nowadays if a game says Unreal Engine 5, Im expecting a poorly optimised game with blurry images, choppy frames and a bunch of post-processing to provide the illusion of quality

I have a question regarding the base ps5 quality mode. If the upper ceiling resolution you detected in quality mode used to be 1584p (2816x1584) pre patch, what was the actual FSR output resolution target? From the AMD slides i gather that FSR3 "quality" (the highest setting) has a maximum input resolution of 2560x1440, that scales to 3840x2160 (scale factor 1,5 per axis). No higher resolutions are reported as valid input resolutions in those slides. So my question is Does FSR3 works differently on consoles? In that it allows different possible input/output resolutions combinations?

I wonder if it would help to put the mode labels on color-coded backgrounds in the corners of the screen? Where is the video game industry trying to take us? The current state of affairs is rather bleak. The PS5 Pro is an unfortunate misstep. It is indefensible that, in order to achieve higher resolution and performance, we must rely on aggressive upscaling or frame generation, both of which introduce intolerable blur and input lag. This generation will likely be remembered as a significant misfire, and it is important for you to adopt a more critical stance toward these gimmicks, rather than remaining so deferential in your videos.

PS5 Pro more powerful than a GTX 470 confirmed
Considering the gtx 470 launched in 2010 that’s great 😂
Bots mad, bots mad, bots mad, bots mad!!!

Ok so it’s not possible to have an Unreal engine 5 game running properly without frame gen on a PS5 pro.
Thank you very much for this video DF.
It's possible, Game Science just couldn't or wouldn't do it
so glad i got distracted by metaphor refantazio before playing this game. i was convinced they werent going to patch this game but the 40 fps balance mode is awesome.
Frame gen, fake resolutions. The industry is miserable.
You have no clue what you even said
@ yeah?
@@sikeyimboyleisi The resolution is 1080P btw
@@GhoulSolo___ 1080 upscaled to whatever. That’s what fake res means. I played native 1080p games on ps3.
@sikeyimboyleisi Most games on PS3 weren't Native 1080P, and when they were, they looked significantly worse
The gamers - Game of the Year. Astrobot is great tho :)
