    You should totally do a video on that fly wheel. Debating getting the same one and I'd love to hear and see more about it.

      BrapBrap sounds good. That will probably be my next video.

    Have a 2016 wrx that I have at stage 2 since last fall and at 37000 miles no issues with the stock clutch yet. But after watching your video I better plan on this being a issue for me sooner than later. This is my 6th manual car and never had to replace a clutch before but those cars did not have the power this car has.

    I just had a flex fuel kit put in yesterday and I already feel my clutch slipping 15 miles after the kit was installed I have 26,000 miles on the car I was afraid this was going to happen. Before the flex fuel kit I was at stage 2 with a pro tune but I didn't have any problems with the clutch until now. my shop wants 17 hundred bucks for a clutch installed .

    • @dwelker284
      @dwelker284  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That was exactly how mine decided to go. Went to a meth kit at 26k and it started slipping. The clutch kit itself was about $1,000 so that's not a bad price for everything.

    I have my group N transmission mount and whiteline positive shift kit on the way. as well as a boomba short shift plate. I've been really looking into doing the AEM water meth kit but my budget is holding me back right now lol

    Nice video. Nice car. I have the same clutch in my '15 WRX, but stayed with an OEM flywheel. It's been in for about 1,400 mi now and it's still kind of annoying... especially on any sort of incline. Confident it's fine, just anxious for it to start feeling normal again. About how many miles did yours take until it was good?

    • @dwelker284
      @dwelker284  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joey Yax thanks! I can certainly relate. Mine has about 5k on it now and it feels really good. About 2500 is when it was really started to be okay.

    Have you thought about picking up the Perrin pitch mount brace at all? I'm still paranoid about mine breaking, will probably be my next "mod"...

    • @dwelker284
      @dwelker284  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nathan Neudecker yup I have one actually. It makes a big difference. The pitch stop and transmission mount together make a big difference.

  • @10secdream
    @10secdream 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for the update and feedback. What transmission fluid did you put it?

    • @dwelker284
      @dwelker284  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      10secdream I put in mobil1 but I would recommend buying motul. I will be using motul from this point on. I'm not impressed with mobil1. But you need to get something that doesn't have any friction modifier. One way to tell is if it says it's good with LSD's don't use it in the transmission.

    • @10secdream
      @10secdream 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Derek Welker I was planning to use Motul Gear 75W90 in the transmission and then Motul Gear 300 in the rear differential when I change my fluids this spring.

    Hey you had your prl charge pipe for a while, how is it holding up? I just recently installed mine last week and the gains are impressive. 15whp and 7wtq from a retune. I wasn't expecting that much since I already have tgv/egr deletes, and 3 port with protune. Clamps and coupler still in good condition, leaks?
    And thanks for the clutch information, I was going to upgrade mine soon once I go meth injection. When that does happen I'll most likely pm you if you're still doing those meth kits.

    • @dwelker284
      @dwelker284  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      getgabenbro it's been fine. The coupler has blown off a few times but it's just from not being connected properly. Other than that it's been great.

  • @MatthewMaranan
    @MatthewMaranan 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dude, Derek your car is such a well built machine! I'm hoping to build my motor on that IAG Stage 3 and then get on e85 as there are ample amount of stations near me....or Meth :D Can I ask why you went with that clutch as opposed to other brands? I'm a clutch noob.

    • @dwelker284
      @dwelker284  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matthew Maranan I went with that because it was a full face disc and was still rated for good torque. I wanted a full face disc because it's better to daily. Plus I've heard horror stories on some other brands.

    • @MatthewMaranan
      @MatthewMaranan 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, awesome! Good to know, thanks.

    • @MatthewMaranan
      @MatthewMaranan 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Derek Welker One last question Derek, you mentioned no more slipping the clutch, how does it affect reverse? Is it like you said with engaging then just pressing the clutch in really quickly?

    • @dwelker284
      @dwelker284  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matthew Maranan reverse is a little odd. When the car is cold and the revs are high it's easier to back out. But reversing out of a parking spot you kind of have to do the same thing as stop and go traffic. It takes some getting used to.

    • @MatthewMaranan
      @MatthewMaranan 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahh ok, well that doesn't sound too annoying. Thanks Derek! I too would love to see a fly wheel video.

    Did you/do you have issue with gear rattle? I have the same ACTSB11-HDSS clutch/flywheel on my 15 WRX and have around 800 miles on it so far. I am getting A LOT of gear rattle when letting off the gas at any RPM's over 3000 (seems to be the worst in the 2500-3000 range). I know a lightweight flywheel will cause gear rattle but I mean mine is pretty bad... I had a 13 WRX with an aftermarket competition clutch/flywheel setup and it was NOWHERE near as bad... :(

    • @dwelker284
      @dwelker284  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      SUBIE KNURD I had a lightweight flywheel in another car with no noises as well but this one is pretty loud. It's pretty annoying. If you just touch the gas it goes away or throw it into neutral. Other than that there isn't much you can do.

    • @GTRZE70

      I'm on my 3rd fuckin' clutch with this car, 41,000miles. Stock, 2 ACT's.
      I dont know WHY, but these cars eat clutches. It's absolutely rediculous, Car and Driver had to replace the clutch on their test car at like 22,000 miles. The gear rattle is LOUD on deceleration.

    • @dwelker284
      @dwelker284  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      GTRZE70 I replaced my stock clutch at 28k. I'm at 51k now and I'm on my first ACT. It's still going strong.

    What kind of power are you making? I can imagine you moved the peak higher to save the rods. im on cobbs ots stage 2 map atm and not sure if I should move to a protune and some mods or what lol. thanks in advance!

    • @dwelker284
      @dwelker284  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      354hp/356tq. Peak numbers are moved to the right for longevity. Definitely a protune at the very least. A protune will be very big gains over OTS. Most Stock cars with protunes make more power than a Cobb OTS Stage 2 car.

    • @FEARGOD88
      @FEARGOD88 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Derek Welker Good numbers! How many miles when your stock clutch died?

    • @dwelker284
      @dwelker284  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it was around 28k. Ive been stage 2 since roughly 5-6k.

    • @FEARGOD88
      @FEARGOD88 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Derek Welker Gotcha... I'm asking bc I'm stage 2 also with 292whp and 358tq with the stock clutch. I have about 40k on car and I've been stage 2 for about 4000 miles. I'm waiting for my clutch to go but I don't drive hard so I may have a while. We'll see... but you sold me on this ACT clutch. I couldn't decide between ACT or the FX300. Good review man!

    Is it quite a noticeable difference with the group n tranny mount? I'm thinking about doing it on my wrx as well! Is there noticeable noise with it on?

    • @ericferlenda8955
      @ericferlenda8955 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nabil P when i put mine in i didnt feel it a ton. But it cleans up the shifts a little and youll hear a little extra "gear whine" i guess you could call it. Its super minute and if you probably wont ever notice it. It was worth it overall though. Especially with the pitch stop mount.

    • @nabatron21
      @nabatron21 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah I'm thinking about getting the tranny mount and get it with whittling positive shift kit...just some harder bushings compared to the stock soft ones.

      Jorge I'm sorry you believe my car is abused but that's the furthest from the truth. I don't cut corners or cheap out on maintenance. My car is far from being abused. I agree with you that most of them are abused but mine certainly is not.
