Turning the Tide on Police Surveillance

- The stories seem non-stop. The NSA, FBI, and other federal agencies are spying on us in new ways and with new programs or authorities. But surveillance that is most overlooked, but is equally as pervasive, is how state and local police spy on their own residents. In Baltimore, the police department secretly deployed Stingrays to track the phone calls of residents in primarily black neighborhoods. In New Orleans, the police entered into a six-year contract with data mining firm Palantir to conduct predictive policing. When residents found out, their opposition was so fierce that within two weeks, the city canceled the agreement. And in cities and towns all over the country, police departments are tracking people’s movements with surreptitiously installed automatic license plate readers.
These examples are just a taste of the many ways police departments acquire and deploy surveillance technologies to constantly spy on average people as they go about their lives. And in most jurisdictions, including the District of Columbia, decisions to acquire and use these surveillance technologies are made by police departments without any knowledge or input from the public or elected officials, often through secret agreements with the federal government or private companies. This significantly threatens civil rights and civil liberties. Addressing these threats has gained additional urgency with the growing efforts of the Trump administration to identify and deport millions of undocumented immigrants, track Muslims, and even more aggressively police communities of color.
But cities and towns are starting to take control. In September of 2016, the ACLU and partners, including the Open Technology Institute, launched the Community Control Over Police Surveillance (C-COPS) effort. The purpose of C-COPS is to ensure that residents and lawmakers are empowered to decide if and how surveillance technology is acquired and used by local law enforcement agencies. To date, seven cities and counties in California, Washington, Tennessee, and Massachusetts have adopted C-COPS-style ordinances, and dozens of other jurisdictions are considering similar proposals. I think that each member of that panel, all members of Homeland security and others involved, along with each employee of 18,000 police departments should all get a street light with camera and voice activated placed at each one of their homes for one year. After they feel that demoralizing and violating sense of being watched, recorded and documented for one year by the monitoring of this good idea to put cameras and microphones in street lights then you can get back up on that stage and tell us how it's going and how it's still a good idea. Sure some of your tactics need to be in place for severe ongoing cases but otherwise you're just plain violating our constitutional rights. I think they call that communism. Is that what you want? Because that's what you're asking the public to accept.
You’ve been conditioned to believe some of these techniques are necessary but in reality police in general aren’t necessary, there were no police before the 1830s and I’m sure society was a better place..The evil in this world is attracted to positions of power…

I would add to this being unlawfully experimented upon with neuro/cognitive technologies, RNM, NLP, V2K, BCI, BBI and other sophisticated technologies along with non lethal weapons purposely mislabelled that way, but they can be lethal if they increase the frequencies used. If a person is being followed by drones, helicopters, harassed with jets and private plane flyovers, being followed harassed and subjected to psychological terror operations with street theater, mobbing and things like this, this is torture. If that person is being held under a secret investigation there are many laws being broken. That person is being made to have PTSD because of what is being done to them. Nothing that is being done can be used against them because it is all illegal, they have undermined our Constitution using EO 12333 and amendments to that order along with loosely held Memoranda of Understandings to experiment secret technologies that are harming these people. Ask any family members who have a relative in law enforcement if they've been transformed into an unknown person like your little brother or sister who was close to you always asking about you and family how before that relative was kind humble and involved with family affairs but changed into a bully distanced and now rarely seen and now angry all the time at everyone, that's because in the academy they are bombarded with suspicion on everyone even their own parents, they are indoctrinated into a brotherhood of bullies promised a great and wonderfull future of freedom and a great retirement pension with the support of the government leadership always praised for doing as they've been told to do specially behind closed doors away from the public eye when they do dirty things for the leadership (new family) and given promotions after killing someone's family member with extra pay extra vacation perk endless medical leave and extra defence when dealings in criminal behaviors and permitted to do crime out of uniform, the leadership will make a new cops 100yrs old grandmother look like al cappone after 6 months in uniform and in class and in the department they are drenched with the reminders of loyalty to the blue and consequences of their own betrayal to the police culture (gang rules)

I have been under surveillance, cyber stalked and harassed for at least a year now after being bullied off a mobile gaming platform. I believe I have been targeted for my Palestinian heritage, my human rights activism, and my politics. My iPhone often shows the green indicator light that alerts when the camera is being accessed remotely, and this happens all the time when none of my apps are open. I have no sense of privacy and constantly feel deeply violated.

I am currently under 24/7 surveillance. Drones, many people, and vehicles. They’re everywhere I go, often before I get there, (obviously due to technological surveillance), and near my home at all times. I’m not crazy, paranoid, or delusional. Look up gang stalking and targeted individuals. This has been happening to me everyday for 6 weeks now. I’m no one! I’m a widowed single father who recently lost my job and home. I am researching and intend to expose if possible.

30 years of community policing, retirement check is 1083 a month. Many of my 60 fellow officers at the start were good to great officers you rode with to start your training. Quickly I
developed a grade system in my mind of what I referred to as men you did not believe were assets to enforcing a community. I remember that number was low. 8 officers made that grade. 4 were horrible personalities. I dreaded to work around them. 2 were supervisors. I did not trust them. In my mind they were
where in need of reprimand and training and that could have led to changes. However there was no way to make that happen. Each officer was sworn in, holding your hand up to uphold the law and the rights of citizens. I never made any rank in my 30 years and as the size grew more untrainable, undesirables came along. They were the still fewer in number, but they seemed to easily climb the ladder, thus the supers were infected as well. It was 30 years of doing what the God of Heaven wanted me to be. I grew to be content with that, praying for change in men who were sworn to uphold. I hid my true feelings with God. He kept
me on track to be what he wanted out of sworn officer.

I've been subjected to this my entire life. People don't understand that this is the most pervasive and life long manipulation and destruction of your life. Today's technology only makes the suffering more extreme. I was born in 1966. I was abducted from my home in the middle of the night and later returned. No one woke up not even our dog's. I woke up in a car with people I didn't know, they drove me home wrapped up in a blanket and put me back in bed. I was 4 or 5 yrs old. I've since learned that they will run a hose into your house and gass everyone inside. This explains it. I don't know where they took me or what they did with me but I don't think that it was the only time it happened. And so it began and it only increases over time. The only reason for this is to destroy your life.

Once initiated, the attacker can use your phone with as much authority as you yourself, possibly without much indication as to any anomaly or artifact.

Giving more power to a group (law inforcement) that already willfully disregard citizens rights and abuse their power, is crazy. There is no accountability for them. They investigate themselves for wrongdoing and unless there is fear of a public storm coming at them, problems are all too often swept under the rug and/or passed on to another county. The taxpayers always pay their lost lawsuits.

I find it surprising that there is so much of a debate regarding the use of these technologies. The point of this conversation is to inform the public about the unregulated invasion of privacy that occurs when authorities use this technology. There are many valid uses for these technologies but they should be regulated and the public should be able to weigh in on the proper implementation.

One of my family members fell last night and while we had to drive far for availability at a hospital I saw two police helicopters watching me - I am worried ans scared and they have the gall to add to my pain. Those LED have been installed here in Cleveland OH. They have a feature that is imo a cause of concern and that feature is a strobe light effect. I was a close family friend of the lieutenant at the local sheriff's office a few years ago where him and his brother ended up getting caught in a pedophile situation it was on the recording of the sheriff's office main phone as the mother found out they were messing with his teenage daughter. They got let go quietly and no one was charged however I knew about it and I became a very serious target. I was already at Target but at this point it was unbelievable. So many police have abuse the ability to lie to suspects of serious crimes, in ordercto solve them, and they've taken it to be able to lie to anyone they contact, even passengers in. Vehicles, telling them they are legally required to ID if an officer requests it. If a passenger knows their rights, and challenges that statement, telling the police passengers aren't required to ID, unless they suspect them of a crime. There are so many videos of officers removing the passengers from the vehicle, saying it's for "officer safety", and they even put them in handcuffs, making the passenger think they are being arrested. Yet they leave the driver in the vehicle, because they already IDd, because they were stopped for a "traffic violation". Why are the officers safer with the driver in the vehicle, but remove all passengers and handcuff them, "for officer safety"???
The SCTUS gave the police the tool, lying, to solve violent crimes or kidnappings, and as we've seen with required cameras, and officers not turning them on, because their policy states they had to wear them, but didn't instruct them to turn them on! So, when a potential client tells me they are being surveilled, I first interview them to find out why they are so incredibly important that a government entity or even a corporation, would spend Hundreds of thousands of dollars to surveil a person that has never once done anything important their entire life. 10 times out of 10, There is nothing there and the person claiming that they are being followed or watched, is simply paranoid or just extremely lonely.
