Yeah it's not slow. It's just short. I wanted more lol. I wish they added another 20 minutes that include encounters with the infected as they try to escape from the hunters

@@boocraft4985 Lol she isn't supposed to be a scary monster. I feel for her and the oppression by fedra. She is one of many that has lost someone because of the military. They are all getting revenge on the "collaborators" who worked with the military they overthrew. I'm not saying she was perfect, obviously there were some flaws with her as a leader but I think it is well nuanced. Someone we're supposed to root against but still understand.
It was a very touching moment when Ellie kills the guy begging for his life and calling to mommy. Then Joel tells Ellie to walk away and don't look. Brilliant scene. Don't think that's in the game.
Agree. The show absolutely needs to give us quality time with Joel and Ellie. That’s not slowing down the pace. Joel going from stone-faced to full laughter is significant story progression and worth 45 minutes.
I disagree with this episode being great the action and brutality of the game wasn't present in this episode also the pacing for the shortest episode is slowest it felt like half of an episode to me or they could of cut the first 10 minutes. I get the show is about these two but I want more action and the fact that most of the fans are ok with the most important thing to happen in this episode is them entering a city and Joel laughing. Most boring episode of the show thus far and the lack of visceral violence is the most obvious in this episode. If that's what you want fine but too pretend this is the quality of the previous episode is delusional
And it's the fact that he said "I'm sorry" right away for the fact Ellie had to shoot the gun. In the game it was in his character to be unapologetic and Ellie understood that. Here it's kinda makes him a more generic good "Dad" guy.

Agreed: I think if they wanted to write in a Karen, they needed to lean into ‘High Sparrow’… if the audience sees her performing service to her community right after seeing Brian die, but before she interrogates the Doctor, the audience accepts ‘oh she’s the ‘man of the people’ who inspired an uprising against FEDRA
I thought that Perry's respect for her was telling to how she gained that respect. I think we are going to see what she is capable of. We just haven't seen it yet.
Kathleen is the only character so far that sucks, and it’s kinda the acting. Like a bunch of people listening to her is somewhat unbelievable, but then again she’s only been in one episode lol.
People can't help but knit pick at amazing content. The writing goes beyond expectations, especially when it comes to the details of Ellie and Joel's relationship growth.
@@michaelriley8314 let’s be honest, it’s not difficult to write a better show or act better than these current day actors. They are not hired for their talent
I don't see how anyone can call it a filler episode. This was another epic part of the game, and everything from the puns to the laughter, to the hunters, and to meeting Henry and Sam, everything contributed to the story.
Kathleen seems very realistic, in our current world it seems the people who simply have the drive to lead... get to where they're going. It doesn't matter how cool you look, it's more about the drive to lead and the willingness to never give up. They could have had another actress with a visually appealing look, but I think in this new world folks just don't have their top priority being cool looking. The more real you seem the more people will follow you because they can relate to you. The stakes of being a leader in this story doesn't come with benefits, you either do it or not and if you fail people die. So that kinda empties the plate of folks who just want to *try* being a leader and replaces them with people who will do what is absolutely in their own interest. I like that she's not cool, not striking in appearance and just a person who simply has the will.
Also the people might have decided to follow a different Kathleen in the past, one less cynical and less paranoid. There's loads of examples in history of people becoming worse characters with passing time. I had that feeling with Kathleen. That would also explain why Beard Dude still trusts her.
@@kraeutrpolizei Yeah, she kinda reminds me of someone people have problems with but no one has the will to do what she does... so in effect she remains by default because while folks may disagree with her no one wants to inherit her responsibies.
It doesn't matter if she has the will, cause realistically noone would follow her as a leader in an apocalyptic setting. When you can be taken down each and every single one of your henchmen they will do it, so I'm sorry it just wouldn't happen
Episodes like this one and Episode 3 are needed in a great show that emotionally connects you to the story and its characters. Action and thrilling scenes are needed and necessary, but not all the time. This show has a perfect balance of world/character-building and tension/action.
I will preserve my judgment for the Kathleen character for ep 5. The fact that she is like your friends' mom make it more realistic cuz these are normal ppl that just overturn Fedra, sometime in the real world not many leader look like a leader at first. To me she even felt selfish and only care about revenge when ignore the moving pit and assume Joel and Ellie is Henry allies.
Honestly episode 4 may be my favorite because their bonding is so sweet. By the end of the episode they’re laughing like kids at a sleepover. After Ellie saves Joel’s life, they have a long bonding conversation that really contributes to the plot.
It was our first full on Joel n' Ellie episode. It was very necessary. And it's probably a good thing to not have a tragedy in each episode. (Well, okay, except for poor Brian)
If one of those episode was filler, it was 3 lmao. But I don't get how people can say a 10 ep season can have fillers. Not every ep needs a buttload of action, 3 main character deaths and one epic fight.
This was spot on from the Cathleen part to the character dev part. I feel bad for those who don't have the patience to deal with the build up. This is going somewhere, and if you played the games you know what happens in Winter and why the bond between them is important to highlight.
I personally loved this episode. Great character interactions, some tension and my favorite scene from this ep was when Ellie and Joel were about to fall asleep towards the end of the episode
I think Kathleen is probably meant as a character who likely never wanted to be a leader, but despite being soft-spoken, she gets stuff done and keeps things organized. She also seems quite intelligent and clever, but like many in her group, as we see with Brian going after Joel after Joel shot his friend, she is driven in large part by vengeance, despite their main target already being defeated.
Yeah we only got a flashback to how it started but not much on its origins. Also the room where the zombies are starting to break thru the ground was brilliant.
[EDIT: HEAVY SPOILERS] I personally thought the cast choice for Kathleen was perfection. Kathleen is not someone who ever thought she would be in power. She tells us the story of how her brother would comfort her in their bedroom when there was a storm thundering outside. She is used to being #2, never "top dog" but his right hand woman, whom he protects. She only stepped into this leadership role 2 weeks ago because of the unexpected murder of her brother. It forced her to assume leadership. So to me, this character is brought to life by the nuances that Melanie Lynskey portrayed. Once I understood more about Kathleen and put myself in her shoes as the second-in-command forced now to be the leader, the acting choices made a lot more sense to me. Those criticizing her as "not bold, commanding, or decisive enough" are not realizing that all of those things are true of Kathleen, but that's exactly the point. That's why she's extra terrifying. She doesn't have the wisdom, expertise, or demeanor of a leader and yet, well, here she is now having to be the leader.
This and episode 3 are the best episodes so far for me, Ramsey's performance as Ellie is getting stronger. I know they don't always film chronologically but I wasn't sold on her until this episode.
the way i rank the 4 episodes so far is this 1. episode 3 because the frank and bill storyline made me tear up and was masterfully done. 2. episode 1 because the opening was really well done and built up so much tension. 3.episode 4 because its really the first time we've gotten a full episode to just Joel and Elli 4.Episode 2 because while there was a great tense clicker scene and tess's death, I did think Tess's death was a little underwhelming but still a great episode nonethless. And also the opening in Jaktar was great. (closing thought) The last of us has great potential to be an all time great HBO show and I'm excited for the future!
In my opinion, I thought episode 3 was filler. It was a backstory that did nothing for the plot, and Bill ends up dying. I wish we got the action set piece from the game. So far this world doesn't feel dangerous like the game felt.
Why are people so offended by “filler”? It’s needed for world building and character development. I love slow episodes like this because I feel like it was needed to develop Joel and Ellie’s relationship which is essential to the show. Not everything needs to be Action! Action! Action! :)
The story is about the human condition. Particularly how to cope in an a chaotic environment. Joel goes from a jubilant loving father, to a hardened survivor who doesn’t allow himself to open up, to love, or care for people, knowing the pain of loss. The story shows how he grows with Ellie. They both have great character arcs in the story. The ending is perfect as well. This is why episode 3 was so great. It acted as a microcosm for the development of Ellie and joel.
I like Kathleen as a character because I think she’s even more terrifying because she’s unassuming. It may not tells us why she’s in command but we know the resistances respects her authority which allows us to fill in the awful things she’s done to command such a violent group.
On Kathleen - you might have missed the point. In the podcast, the writers said that the uneasiness we feel towards her and her lack of badassery and confidence is the point, as she's not supposed to be this badass hardcore leader. Her followers might also already question her legitimacy and choices, as Jeffrey does in this episode. We are so used to the archetype of the badass manly confident leader that nobody questiones in media that most people fail to see what they were doing with her in this episode.
We already know that her overlooking the infected threat in the building is going to lead to a lot of people dying unnecessarily so I think they are setting her up to fail as a leader. Killing the doctor is also another objectively bad & selfish decision. There are already enough strong female characters on this show with Tess, Marlene and Ellie that I don't think the writers would hesitate portraying a woman in charge who is out of her depth which is the sort of thing that would typically enlist backlash in today's world. 🙄
I saw this too. The subtlety has slipped past many people. Even the casting choice reinforces this point. For a mild mannered woman who can barely shout to be the leader, she must have some other quality that we haven’t seen yet.
Episode 3 was filler and pointless. It was a backstory for a character that died in the same episode. Joel and Ellie could have found a truck with supplies in it or just found Bill's house at the end of episode 2 and #3 could have been skipped. Honestly, if you didn't watch #3 you wouldn't even know it was gone. You would wonder where they got the truck and supplies but you would have assumed they found it.
@@leviwakeham well they are. Can't believe people think 4 is filler when 3 litteraly did nothing. Hey lets make a pointless and forced lovestory instead of progressing the story
@@brixcer Just say you’re a closeted homosexual and that episode made you feel things you’re afraid of admitting. You don’t have to keep hating yourself..
@@leviwakeham love how people can't give it critisism without being called a homophobe. The episode was pointless. Them being gay had nothing to do with. Bill was a paranoid fanatic and he just invited a random guy inside and slept with him, yeah really made sens from how we see bill act in the beginning.
Maybe it’s just me, but I quite like Kathleen. I think her character is very unique, she’s softspoken but very motherly, and I think the villainy of her character will come from her motherly instinct to do anything to protect her people. I’m excited to see more of her!
I think Kathleen was meant to feel weird in the leader roll because we find out that the only reason she was leader and people followed her was because of how well respected and good of a leader her brother was. I also didn't get the impression that people really beleived her manipulation, they more just went along with it. I think people are still holding onto the legacy of her brother and dont want to face the reality that his sister isnt him. Her anger at her brothers death also drove them to actually overthrow fedra but her anger is all she really has going for her as a leader. No one really knows how to turn a revolution into a functioning society.
I didn’t think it was slow at all. It has great writing and the connection between Ellie and Joel was a compelling and awesome to see develop through out the episode, it’s like each scene between them was a conflict within itself. The action scene was fucking great too. 9/10 easy
I found episode 3 even though good, more of a filler episode. I found myself wondering when we would get back to Joel and Ellie throughout the episode even though it was cool to get a more detailed backstory for Bill.
I went back to watch the cutscenes from the game, as I thought the show was a cool twist / improvement with Bills town in the show... But then I saw how much better it is done in the game, all the way up to them finding Frank's body, and then Frank's note. About how he hated Bill and grown sick of living with him. The game actually was done better, and includes the 2 main protagonists.
@@rise-my-angel If the game was done better, it should have tried to be like the game. If a book is great, you shouldn't try to adapt a worse movie that doesn't follow the book. It should be the same for games.
I think people are judging Kathleen's character too early. We'll see how they deliver, but Craig and Neil explicitly say in the podcast with Troy Baker that you're supposed to wonder why the guy who looks military trained is listening to an awkward, intimidating character like Kathleen. My guess is she's pivotal to motivating the city to overtake FEDRA and she has the people's support, even if she doesn't herself give off hardened survivor vibes. I mean, we catch her character in a moment when they're caught off guard. They're trying to get rid of the "collaborators" and Joel and Ellie just killed a group of people who were involved in their usually pretty reliable trap. And it's not like the hunters in the game were portrayed as this super disciplined group like the WLF or something. They're a loose collection of normal people who just got fed up with FEDRA.
i mean,is still on build up, I wasn't so sure bella as ellie on the first 3 episode until episode 4 came out and im just as wrong, maybe Kathleen could be good tho?
Maybe it's me, but while Kathleen doesn't "look" intimidating, the fact that she's acting out of anger and vengeance makes her scary to me. I feel like we tend to stereotype what leaders are meant to look like, especially in a setting like this, and I think Kathleen is purposely written to not be whatever people imagined she would be, with Perry potentially being the softer one trying to stop her from exploding.
I agree. It subverts expectations and makes you wonder why a lady, who doesn't sound like she's ever raised her voice in her life, has suddenly started murdering people and hunting down people who disagree with her
Apparently she was meant to be that way. They meant for us to not take her seriously and ask how the hell she became a leader. They might show how that happened.
@@alexman378 She's based in thr nameless mother who overthrew FEDRA in thr game notes out of revenge for them beating her kid to death. It's just a random villain for a couple of episodes
I think that was the point of Kathleen's character, she is not the architype villain. Obviously, seems confusing at first but she illustrates that everyone can change when they are put through a traumatic situation. I think her development over the next ep or two made her even more chilling because you realize her motivation and the circumstances on how they got here.
Thank god I didn’t play the game before the show and I can just take it as it is. Seems like the second something changes or isn’t EXACTLY the same as the game it’s either not noteworthy or even bad. Y’all better prepare for things to change though, cause Graig said from here on out EVERYONE is going to be surprised
I played the game and I'm honestly thrilled with how it is going so far. I don't understand the diehard gamers who get they're hackles up when sometimes is a little diff. If it was just gonna be a shot for shot rehash of the game I'd be bored and not watch. After all, the game is amazing and I love the OGs, they did it perfectly. This being different makes it feel like something new and exciting again while still paying homage to and being respectful of the game we all love.
What is about that is that they make these small changes to characters and character moments that don't seem big, but they really change the payoff later. It makes the Joel Ellie dynamic a lot different.
The title pretty much describes my thoughts on episode 3. Slow but still great. Episode 4 I thought was great and wasn't slow in fact it's the shortest episode. But overall loving the show so far.
I think people are missing the point with Kathleen. She doesn't need to be a physically intimidating character because she's a terror emotionally and she has the blind respect of her followers. She makes cold, calculating decisions that in the end are her undoing.
Episode 3 was more filler than this episode was. Instead of seeing Joel and Ellie for only 10 minutes and watching Bill eat strawberries, we actually got some relationship building between the two main characters and the action we felt was lacking in episode 3
But the relationship we do see is not as good as the game, the scenes of Ellie saving Joel weren’t as good and Joel getting all sappy with Ellie way too soon doesn’t make much sense and feels less believable than the game
The first two episodes established backstory and the corducept, and the third episode gave a side story that ties thematically into the main game. Episode 4 was necessary to be slow to give Joel and Ellie more character growth between them and establish the large plot of episode 5. Not every episode can be balls to the wall.
People have gotten addicted to constant action from modern movies and shows *cough* Marvel *cough* . Especially younger people these days have lost the ability to appreciate the slower pace and longer buildup. Its why Andor was so divisive, people expect anything Star Wars related to be action, lightsabers and fighting which leads to them not appreciating how AMAZING action can be when it has a great buildup. TLOU seems to suffer the same fate unfortunately tho episode 3 brought out the homophobes in droves.
@@TheStriker_26. What do you mean what do I mean? The video talks about how people think episode 4 is filler, when it literally isn't. Hence the rhetorical question.
I think this show is great and this episode might be my favorite so far. Really rich world building, character development, action. I LOVE your channel - breaking down the best stuff on TV is a great way to learn film making concepts
I think it makes a lot of sense that Perry, the army guy, would not a be the leader. He is someone who is clearly more used to taking orders then being the one giving them. He has the military experience yes, but that experience has made him someone who follows what he superiors says. In a way it does make sense that a Karen-type would be charge because if you think about who those kinds of people are, they are very good at getting what they want, very good being manipulative, very good at forcing/making listen people to them and they tend to get their way. If you think about these two types of personalities it makes a lot of sense for them end up in the positions that they do.
Are people really complaining that this was slow paced? That thought didn't even occur to me at all. It was all character work, building towards the core of the entire dang story. And it delivered on so many fun moments. I admit I also had that thought about Kathleen though. She's not fearsome so I figured she must somehow have a huge amount of respect from her men. Guess we'll find out more next time.
2nd episode was slow. It was like walking and talking until the ending. Then 3 was just two dudes doing nothing for 80min and now when something finaly happens people call it filler
I think Kathleen being a PTA soccer mom is the point. The podcast talked about humanizing villains, and this group becoming just a bad as FEDRA after they overthrew them. I think FEDRA killed Kathleen’s brother, she riled up this group, and then suddenly everyone is looking to her as the leader of this revolution that is quickly becoming a violent oppressive group, and Kathleen didn’t sign up for that, isn’t equipped for it, and is just trying to live up to what everyone is expecting of her. Shes not threatening because you don’t threaten people to join a revolution, you inspire them. Y’all can’t use two brain cells to realize the “mis-cast” of the character IS THE GODDAMN POINT
Only thing I didn’t like was that the scene where they drive into the convenience store was nowhere near as intense as I’m the game. In the game I could barely breathe it was so intense, in the show was just eh
Oh this episode has been my favorite lol my heart lives for Joel and Ellie bonding! When they were laughing at the joke at the end 😭 it didn't seem slow to mee, I would've loved 2 hours of it 🤣 Can't wait for Friday!!
I’ve really enjoyed the show so far, but I must confess I’m a bit worried if the Sam and Henry storyline doesn’t stay true to the game. The game’s version of events was so impactful on both the player and the characters, and it’s fantastic. I hope they don’t divert things too much here.
You would be surprised what people do for the superbowl. When I was deployed we would stop all military operations for the super bowl. Hbo made the right financial decision
I love how they show that Ellie is nervous that Joel is going to get rid of her soon so she's asking these questions so she can be prepared when it happens
I think when looking back at the season as whole, this episode will make a lot of sense. It's a necessary downtime in story telling. But on a weekly release basis, I can see the critiques people are making in the moment.
Er, episode 3 was definitely a filler. Nothing of any significance would've been lost to the overall narrative if the whole Bill and Frank's story had been cut. As for episode 4, it was simply an attempt at more character development with a negligible amount of plot progression. Definitely more padding. Things better start moving at a pace soon or I can see viewers bailing.
Also when they do call backs to the game does it not feel a tad forced to anyone, it never really ever comes of naturally, just feels forced to make you go “oh that line is from the game”
Calling it slow isn't even really fair. The Last of Us is a character study and you can't get a fair character study out of fast pacing as effectively. The game could be described slow as hell. So much of the gameplay is actually quite slow beacuse of its general game design beacuse its a character based story. Its not filler and its not slow, because its not meant to be an action packed thrill ride. Its about these two characters and we NEED time to watch them grow outside of other people or immediate action.
I completely disagree with you about Kathleen! She's not a leader because she's the best at anything - she's a leader because she's willing to assume the responsibility of directing people - and she's *good* at directing people. You don't need to have strength to be a leader, you just have to convince people to rally around a cause. She has enough vulnerability to attract people to her, and enough strength to use that to her own ends!
Yeah, the only thing I didn't love about the episode was Kathleen. She absolutely did not give ruthless machiavelian leader. The most obvious reason is her voice. It's so light and sweet. It feels more like she's struggling to have people take her seriously instead of effortlessly commanding respect, unlike, say, Marlene. So, seeing all these people eagerly following her orders felt off.
I actually thought that Kathleen was a great choice as leader for The Hunters, she provides a contrast to the more militia like side of the group and she is more human than let’s say her right hand man (Tommy VA) came across as, I think it depends more on how the next episode handles it but it’s clear that there will be a merging of the two plot lines so it all depends on how she bounces off of Joel and Ellie and how she furthers their development or if she even does, but I’m sure we’ll have her interact with those two in at least some capacity
The guy pleading scene was absolutely haunting. It showed that these "raiders" are people, who just want to survive, who are scared, who have families. Him tries to offer what little he has on him, screaming for his mom at the end, introducing himself first, and asking for Joel and Ellie names, he did everything he could think of to beg Joel to let him live. The increase of desperation in his voice. Part of me hoped Joel let him live but I knew that wasn't gonna happened.
HARD DISAGREE about Kathleen. The fact that she doesn't seem like a leader, doesn't seem like the most dangerous and knowledgeable person in the room, and has access to all these resources speaks volumes to her people skills. What is the signature move of a Karen? Call the cops. The instinct to harness institional power towards their own goals. And on top of that, she believes her own hype and lies. When a "karen" type person makes stuff up to get others in trouble, they believe what they are saying as they are making it up. The conviction, the lack of doubt, the quick decision-making, her speech where she made up that everything is Henry's fault. She makes a perfect villain who can effectively manipulate and use the collective expertise of the entire group to her own selfish ends. The fact that she seems harmless is not a bug, it's a feature. Imagine a regular lady who gives off "soccer mom" vibes who can read people and say the right things to cause others to get as angry and scared as she is. Not to mention all the soldier-looking dudes who probably see her as someone who needs to be protected because of her lack of physical strength or fighting ability. Now through coincidence, Joel and Ellie happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time with the raiders in the laundromat and she paints them as this evil force who is out to hurt them all and that they are probably allies with Henry. Take the archetype of a "karen", give them the resources of a revolutionary general, and drop then in a world where they get more comfortable with the idea of violence and death and you have Kathleen. She is a karen with vast and powerful resources, and no social stigma about violence (she doesn't mind getting her hands dirty and other people around her don't see a problem with her violence). She will make up bullshit gossip about you, spread it to everyone, and then track you down at any expense to exact righteous justice for your crimes. Her decision to kill their doctor, and her decision to leave the crater in the ground alone, show her lack of care or understanding for how to run a city long-term. She only cares about her delusional vengeance, and not the people she is manipulating. All of this combines to make Kathleen an effective but careless leader, and a terrifying villain.
Loved this episode, gave us some of the best Joel and Ellie scenes. My only gripe was the episode was just too short. Was expecting one last 15 segment but then it just ended abruptly. Definitely not underwhelming.
I felt the opposite. Joel and ellie are the plot. Bill and frank were by far the filler and a little uninteresting to be honest. Idk how people see it this way lol
Episode 4 is the best so far. 3rd was pointless. They litteraly said what if we instead of progressing the story give a shit ton of character development to two characters we will never see again after this episode
The resource scavenger in me disliked how many wasted shots the ambushers took at nothing, but I appreciated how the directors staged the laundromat and guided Joel so he was authentically staying low and between places of cover ( the truck to the counter behind it to reposition )😄
These "filler" episodes where some of the best in the show. I think its really interesting how TLOU is a zombie series that is really just all about the people and how they survive together in this new world, rather than being directly about the zombies themselves.
The third guy busting in and nearly killing Joel was not a surprise to me, there were 3 guys, one faking being hurt, one on a fire escape who dropped a cinder block on the car, and the final guy with the gun who forced Joel to turn. Joel was in a gun fight with the two who were on the ground and killed them, but the third hadn't shown up yet, and Chekov's gun wouldn't allow for that third guy to just turn tail and run, he had to show up again.
Slow?! This episode was BRILLIANT with the character development between Joel and Ellie! I adored every minute of the interaction! “Go to sleep!” “You go to sleep!”

I don't see how anyone can call it a filler episode. This was another epic part of the game, and everything from the puns to the laughter, to the hunters, and to meeting Henry and Sam, everything contributed to the story.
Well episode 3 was more filler than this as this is story progression for Joel and Ellie.
Nothing filler or slow about it. People just have shit attention spans. I laughed at the caption of this video lol was slow but good! Wtf lol
Don't you think you need physical strength in this kind of world to be a leader?

Idk I still loved the episode because... Pedro being a dad is all I need and I love how they're getting closer with Ellie

Honestly episode 4 may be my favorite because their bonding is so sweet. By the end of the episode they’re laughing like kids at a sleepover. After Ellie saves Joel’s life, they have a long bonding conversation that really contributes to the plot.
While it may be slow moving, with no much action happening, it's still very captivating, and helps us to get to know the characters better.
It was our first full on Joel n' Ellie episode. It was very necessary. And it's probably a good thing to not have a tragedy in each episode. (Well, okay, except for poor Brian)
Literally half of the game and the main point of the game is the bonding of Joel and Ellie. This is the main content.
Slow and steady wins the race.
What development is she gonna get, chances are that bitch is dead next episode
I personally loved this episode. Great character interactions, some tension and my favorite scene from this ep was when Ellie and Joel were about to fall asleep towards the end of the episode
I think Kathleen is probably meant as a character who likely never wanted to be a leader, but despite being soft-spoken, she gets stuff done and keeps things organized. She also seems quite intelligent and clever, but like many in her group, as we see with Brian going after Joel after Joel shot his friend, she is driven in large part by vengeance, despite their main target already being defeated.
I wish we could get more before episode scenes showing how initial outbreak looked like. These were clearly the nests scenes in whole show
Yeah we only got a flashback to how it started but not much on its origins.
Glad I'm not the only one that sees this. It's lazy of the viewer to need an archetype from every character.
Dang you should be in charge of making this show your takes are very good!

@@brixcer I'm calling you a homosexual not a homophobe... but if you insist on being a homophobe I can't keep you from hating yourself
It was different for me. I almost forgot about Joel and Ellie. I guess I was captivated by the whole Bill's story.
@@mangaas its not trying to be the game is the point.

I don’t wanna be that guy.. but her voice is so high and it kind of makes it hard to take her scenes seriously. Maybe it’s just her acting but lol

I think that was the point of Kathleen's character, she is not the architype villain. I think her development over the next ep or two made her even more chilling because you realize her motivation and the circumstances on how they got here.

This was my favourite one. This is what the story is about, Ellie and Joel dynamic. Cool combat encounters.
The title pretty much describes my thoughts on episode 3. Slow but still great. Episode 4 I thought was great and wasn't slow in fact it's the shortest episode. But overall loving the show so far.
it wasnt slow, it was literally just short, it was just 40 mins! we need MORE! ITS TOO GOOD TO END SO QUICKLY
I don't think you know what filler is.
i adored this episode, mostly because you can see how joel is begrudgingly fond of ellie already
I liked Joel and Ellie’s chemistry in this episode.

thankyou for this great video! This is personally my favourite episode so far for all the reasons you mentioned which a lot of people are overlooking.
This is a post apocalyptic world, why would they follow her. Her voice doesn’t exude confidence , she’s quite and not physically strong
This episode is about bonding. It’s not conventional, it’s not quick but it’s there.

I preferred this episode to episode 3. Great acting, great take on the story, great everything.
Ngl I didn’t think it was slow. I actually thought the opposite. The tension from being chased by a militia had me excited.
The next episode “Endure and Survive” looks insane I CANT WAIT!!!
Only thing I didn’t like was that the scene where they drive into the convenience store was nowhere near as intense as I’m the game. In the game I could barely breathe it was so intense, in the show was just eh
I don't think slow or filler but way too short
It was the best episode so far, i don't get why people are in love with episode 3 and say this one is slow.

The fact people are calling episode 4 "filler" but then claim episode 3 is the "best episode yet" is absolutely hilarious to me.
I’ve really enjoyed the show so far, but I must confess I’m a bit worried if the Sam and Henry storyline doesn’t stay true to the game. The game’s version of events was so impactful on both the player and the characters, and it’s fantastic. I hope they don’t divert things too much here.
They haven’t had a “Filler” episode yet

I love how they show that Ellie is nervous that Joel is going to get rid of her soon so she's asking these questions so she can be prepared when it happens
this shows Elle as brave. Because bravery needs to be an overcoming of fear. it was not filler.
People called this Episode filler?
Y’all crazy, go watch UFC or something
I think when looking back at the season as whole, this episode will make a lot of sense. It's a necessary downtime in story telling. But on a weekly release basis, I can see the critiques people are making in the moment.
What made you possible think that it was filler?
Er, episode 3 was definitely a filler. Nothing of any significance would've been lost to the overall narrative if the whole Bill and Frank's story had been cut. As for episode 4, it was simply an attempt at more character development with a negligible amount of plot progression. Definitely more padding. Things better start moving at a pace soon or I can see viewers bailing.
Also when they do call backs to the game does it not feel a tad forced to anyone, it never really ever comes of naturally, just feels forced to make you go “oh that line is from the game”
Last episode was filler this ep was much better.
I absolutely loved the puns and the fact that the last one made Joel laugh. It was laughing along with joy
I like to think that Joel learned the glass trick from Mission Impossible. He’s an action movie buff after all.
Episode rankings (best to worst)
4 2 1 3
I actually thought that Kathleen was a great choice as leader for The Hunters, she provides a contrast to the more militia like side of the group and she is more human than let’s say her right hand man (Tommy VA) came across as, I think it depends more on how the next episode handles it but it’s clear that there will be a merging of the two plot lines so it all depends on how she bounces off of Joel and Ellie and how she furthers their development or if she even does, but I’m sure we’ll have her interact with those two in at least some capacity
Exactly. Every villain doesn't need to be negan. As a matter of fact I'm tired of it. Its played out. I'm glad they have a different kind of bad guy.
Lmao you want the definition of filler? Go watch episode 3
I’ll admit I was one of the people who wasn’t huge on the actress of Ellie. Boy was I wrong about that.
