The 12UH Roadie features the new "Next Gen Staglon" handles, 7Cr17Mov clip point blade. brass pins and liners, clevis, and nickel-silver bolster. Closed length is 2-7/8" or 3" with Clevis. UK Friendly.

That was my main objection to the original UH simulated Stag, it didn't look very realistic. This looks much better. 👍

The new stagalon looks pretty awesome in my opinion. I had no idea they were changing it, and it's a definite improvement. I may just have to start up a collection of these knives. Cheers, my friend!

I have a couple of USA Uncle Henrys from about forty years ago. The staglon is really good on them. It’s slightly warm but not nearly as yellow as the later Chinese variant you showed. I guess the batches varied in those days.
It seemed to vary over the years.
Great review once again John. I agree wholeheartedly that its a much better staglon. I actually scored a UH Roadie USA made on Ebay a few weeks ago, a few other USA made Old timers from the 80s over the past few months, all of them are bone and this new version of staglon looks a lot more like the true bone models from years' past. I'm looking at my roadie and looks almost the same as your new staglon version!
The USA made versions of old are nice. I have a few myself. I'll probably be getting quite a few other of these "next gen" though. While I do like many of the older USA versions, the prices can get out of hand.

I liked the older plastic stag because it reminds me of the stuff you used to get in the 70s/80s, especially the shell scaled handles, if it did imitate stag it wasn't a stag from this planet!!!! more it made me chuckle than anything. The new style scales are very nice, I didn't think 70s shell scales at all when I saw them.
Yes true, there's some nostalgia to it, but I'm not going to be installing orange curtains, wood paneling, and brown accent rugs anytime real soon. "Pardon me, would you have any Grey Poupon?" Thanks Richard.

@@jelkel25 Sorry, didn't mean to offend it was my own nostalgic take on what the handles remind me of. I enjoy a lot 70's, but the look of the handles takes me back to that setting and the colors I don't miss. Grey Poupon is a brand of dijon mustard (reference to the handle color), they used to run a popular series of commercials here in the States back in the 80's, where that was "Pardon me, do you have any Grey Poupon?" is the catch phrase. Again sorry, if I seemed off putting as that was not my intent.
@@ThriftyKaniffy No John, I just thought you might have been having an off day, you're human, it happens, no big deal but it's no bad Idea to ask (in my round about English way). Grey Poupon, that's quite funny now I get the reference. No GP in the UK and only hot dog mustard in Canada.

The new style covers are way better looking to me also.....Great review I really like how you keep them at about ten minutes.
I try to be reasonable with peoples time, thanks for noticing. The handles are an improvement I think, looking to get more of them.

Thank you for the comparison between the old and new staglon versions. I agree with you; the Next Gen looks much better. It’s a shame the new Rough Ryder Tuff Stag line looks like the old Uncle Henry staglon. Still scratching my head on that decision, but some people really seem to like it.

I agree the new staglon to me looks a lot better. The old style reminds of the stuff they used on the cap pew pews they had when I was a kid. That stuff would crack if you looked at it the wrong way!
I actually think some of the old cap guns look better than the hawkbill I showed. Pew pew.
Been diggin on knives with bails. Lil o-ring n pocket clip and I'm happy. Prefer US mades, but looks like a great value.

I have your hawkbill and don’t like the look and feel of the Staglon. I have seen an American made one and it was decent. I do like how the Tuff Stag looks from Rough Ryder and plan on getting some.

Yea, not a fan of it either. They did a great job of making it look like the older Uncle Henry Staglon, so kudos for the correctness, but no thanks.

I like single blade knives but this one does not appeal to me at all, not a fan of a clevis on a knife either, the other thing is the price over here quite a bit more, good review as always.

It's been 18 years since they were made in the USA. It's probably time to try and find reasons to like them.
@@ThriftyKaniffy I purchased knives from their factory in Ellenville NY, you could just walk in and watch them assemble knives.
very intresting uh, i own the pal and i find the 7cr really hard to get a nice edge on it(lol not because of it being too hard lmao) maybe mine just had a bad heat treat but i also bought mine at auto zone for 14 bucks also mine doesnt have the 12ot on its tang stamp ithas 1140194 and underneath that it has 0720, any info on that and thanks for all the content
I've found that some UH and OT with the funky numbering on them are probably a little inferior, gift set types. You might try a regular one and see. If you do let us know, thanks Jay.
@@ThriftyKaniffy that makes alot of sense it wasnt in a gift set but was sold outof auto zone in one of those bubble packages, you know the ones that your more likely to cut yourself on the plastic, i also picked up an old timer pioneer, i thought it looked intresting because it has a pocket clip and ive never seen an OT with a pocket clip, suprising tho on the PAL the fit was phenominal it had no gaps no blade wrap and smooth transitions the finish is the same as it always has been but the pioneer has a minor gap in the back between the back spring and liner but i was able to get a wicked edge on it and they both are out of the same metal the 7cr
@@jaykerivan6071 Could be the heat treat as you say. That can make a world of difference. The Fit and Finish can vary a lot between patterns of a like brand. Rough Rider is a good example of that. Some are incredible, others I avoid.

I think I commented that Uncle Henry is owned by Schrade but I meant to say Old Tymer is. But do you think that Uncle Henry, Old Tymer, and Rough Ryders are all made in the same factory? LOL
I don't think they are. RRs are made elsewhere in China. American Outdoor Brands owns the Schrade/Old Timer/Uncle Henry brands so they are very likely made in the same place. Thanks Glock.

I'm not keen on that. The colors are nicer than the mustard yellow on the old ones, but I don't like plastic versions of natural materials. It's like that roll out stickum shelf paper with wood grain or formica with photos of marble on it. It looks and feels fake. The Rough Ryder cinnamon bone stag doesn't bother me as much because it feels like bone and looks reasonably natural. But this I could spot as fake from a mile away. It's not that I don't like plastic. I love saw cut delrin and carbon fiber and nice resin with fancy colors. I just want it to be honest to the materials they're using.
