If you want to improve my best advice is find your biggest weakness or mistakes. Then spend a week or more consciously thinking about that every game you play until it becomes second nature. It's likely you will lose some games hyper fixating on just one part of your gameplay, but in the long term it will become automatic and will help you do it without thinking. Unless you're incredibly mechanically gifted it is hard to make it past plat without learning how the game works ult exchanges cooldown exchanges team comps how to kite etc. If you are trying to climb and dedicate to it I'm sure you will make progress best of luck!

Had to pick up new acc to play with a brand new friend to let him learn at lower hiden elo took Zarya and I had 120 Elims per life with 25k dmg per 10 mins. In bronze you just go full W if you are good at aiming and that’s it. You won’t get healed enough and your dps won’t do anything so whether you stay alive or not is all about your own dmg output.

      @@airwick5111 thats not due to mechanics, that's due to information overload and not having core habits locked in. This will happen to anyone if they get info overloaded, first thing that tends to freeze are mechanics even for great players. This happens even to GM ranked players who join scrim teams for the first time and have to do so much coordination in real time that they get so overwhelmed through info overload that their natural mechanics devolve into what looks like diamond or plat -cus their focus is so strained even their core skillsets get affected.
      Once this player gets some experience and builds game sense, their mechanics will naturally get both better but also much more consistent, just by proxy without even having to actively improve at the mechanics themselves.

      Yeah in low ranks feels like supports role is to help people get out of fights they cannot handle or get them ready to go back in. The rest of the time you are a utility dps or flanker. The number of games where tanks do not take/hold space or dps do not secure kills is incredible. Straight healbotting only works when your team can do their roles effectively otherwise healing doesn't do much but delay/extend fights and allow the enemies to build extra ult charge. A "cheat" for low rank support is focusing the most impactful player on your team instead of diversifying between all of them, even if it is a flanker or a long range poke. Starting in mid gold or higher you can play closer to how you would think support should be played. Another thing is that since the soft rank resets the skill range is insane so you have to pay attention to who is actually good or bad much more closely.

      Despite what dps and tanks say, you should be doing more damage in general. When I was playing open queue I partnered with a silver support (diamond open queue) who had more healing per 10 than me but I was gm1 at the time.
      It's really easy to heal someone when the damage source is gone. You'll heal less because of it but you'll win more and winning is the goal. If you dropped 5k heals for 5k damage per game you'll notice a huge difference (assuming you aren't just shooting the tank for damage)

    Hands down the biggest advice I give to any support trying to climb out of metal ranks is stop trying to babysit their team. If they are out of LOS that shit is on them. Do damage. If they need healed weave in heal with damage. But never compromise your positioning to "save" someone out of position. You're more likely to die trying to save someone that needs to learn how to position in the first place.

    Amazing video Flats, happy to see you're still doing the spectating bronze! A slight bit of criticism for your spectating bronze's though, just as someone who tried to use your videos to climb out of bronze in the first year of Overwatch 2. You're advice is all great, I just feel like you're giving too much higher level advice. I know this is because this player obviously doesn't deserve this rank. But tbh I think it's going to make them get easily frustrated at their teammates and make it a whole lot harder to climb. So next spectating you do with someone who is brand new to the game I recommend trying to explain more things in the game. While it's not always going to be helpful when they do watch it, it could help them understand where those mistakes are causing the game to get harder. Also, I know it's gonna be harder to explain as someone who's been playing for so long. But try and explain and I mean over-explain ult economy in curtain situations. I say this because there were a lot of times as you'd said that they were playing too safe. And at the beginning you said that he was getting overwhelmed with all of the ults happening and being "Overwatched" which I understand as someone who's been playing for years as well. But I don't think this will be helpful to someone as new as this, it feels like you're blaming him for being new to the game unintentionally. So like Emongg does, try and explain what he needs to do when ults are coming up before the ults get used. This will help them make better decisions in those times because that seems to be a big problem because he doesn't know what to do when, his decision making is lacking. I know you probably understand a lot of this stuff, but it's important to be mindful of this stuff while spectating the majority of the time. I think Emongg is kind of GOATed because he can do this and I don't really understand how he does it all the time. It's like he's coaching toddlers on how to play the game...

    • @smellssmell2488
      @smellssmell2488 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think this is honestly one of your better spectating videos I've watched. And major props to you for trying to actually explain things better. But I can tell the gap in knowledge makes it really hard sometimes. Emongg is really good at explaining these things, I feel like that's why you have referred to him as your "resident bronze" not because he's bad, but he knows how to explain it to the bronze/ newer players. But I can also tell that it's more common sense to you at this point, and probably still was mostly common sense to you back then. But Valorant and Overwatch may have a lot in common, but they also have a lot of differences as well. I hope I wasn't discouraging with this advice. I genuinely think this was a great video and I hope you continue to make them because you're an amazing player to get advice from, and I love your content!

    • @smellssmell2488
      @smellssmell2488 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I want to make a comparison to you and Emongg on your spectating bronze videos. I have a feeling I've heard you kind of talk about this before with Emongg and Karq. But Emongg is the teacher that is holding the kids hand and showing him exactly how and explaining it all in great detail that is super easy to understand and digest. And Flats is the teacher that will let you make your mistake and slap you on the wrist if you didn't understand that was a bad thing you just did. This honestly makes me think that Flats would be a better coach for more seasoned or veteran players than the newer players. Coaching bronze is always going to be really hard because you honestly would have to impare yourself enough in order to be able to think somewhat on their level. But Emongg is able to just slide on their shoes, and show them how it should be done.

    • @smellssmell2488
      @smellssmell2488 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      26:25 This is what I want to see more of out of your Flats, your explaining in detail about something he as a new players would have no understand about unless he was to play the game for hours. These are the kinds of things this players needs to climb because his mechanical skill is already really good. These things will probably feel blatantly obvious for you because you've played so much, but he's a new player who doesn't know any better. I think that you did a good job for the earlier part of this last fight. But I didn't like you saying that they just need more gamesense. While it's not technically wrong, I just feel like you could've help give some of your knowledge to help them get somemore gamesense in quickplay and now this person might just stop playing after a few more competitive games because they got frustrated about not being able to learn somethings. These are the things that would've made me not want to learn how to play the competitive side of the game back when Overwatch 2 was announced and going into the release. It's too daunting to have to just learn all of those things in a team based game like this, and I think that's a big reason that new players like this will send you these codes. They need to get some of your experience in the feedback to help them learn the game.

    My advice to this player as someone who has been there and made a lot of their mistakes is to learn some of the things Flats talked about over weeks of playing because he's a veteran player and a lot of the stuff takes time to actually utilize in the ways he explained. They're all very useful tips though, so if you see an opportunity like he was trying to explain, you should take it. You could get rolled but that will be a learning experience. Next thing is, being that you're already in bronze, don't be upset after losing a game. It's going to be hard, but you shouldn't blame anyone after losing a game because that is much more draining than just letting the game be over and moving on. Flats talked quite a bit about "cosplaying" as a support player, and I can see what he's talking about. But just in case anyone was confused about that who is new, supports typically play support to not have to play the game as much as the rest of their team. But because you have the mechanical skill, this doesn't make sense for you, especially against low elo players. So you basically just want to constantly demolish them every team fight and not give your team much of an opportunity to make plays. Your teammates will have to find plays to make, but this will make your team take the advantage more often than not. Finally, playing support positioning is going to be your best friend a lot of the time. On Kiri you don't have to worry about it as much because you can just TP back to your teammates. But on Bap you should constantly be trying to control parts of the map like you're a tank, but you're also soldier and can heal your team with grenades. This is a lot to digest, and Overwatch is one of the toughest games to learn, but with your FPS experience I'm sure you can get the hang of it, it's just going to be a learning curve compared to Val or CS. You've got this!

    • @smellssmell2488
      @smellssmell2488 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I forgot to mention until I saw other people mentioning it, don't listen to your bronze teammates unless they are actually making a call out like there is an enemy behind. Those players have probably been stuck in bronze for a long time and for good reason. I know because I used to be one of those players before I started watching Flats and Emongg. They are really stubborn and think they can do no wrong, but constantly will cost your team the advantage in team fights. This is why it's important to be the fragger as Flats had talked about because that will help you keep that advantage. Healing can help your teammates out, but it will only go so far, and being that they are bronze, they will probably walk into the enemies bullets and make your healing worthless more often than not. If you're the top frag on your team, especially don't listen to what those teammates are telling you that you need to be doing. They want to play like it's double shields from Overwatch 1 where they are basically invincible until they make an extremely stupid mistake. And that's not on you to keep them up while they're playing like that.

    • @smellssmell2488
      @smellssmell2488 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree with everything Flats said in this video, but he's not the best teacher for a new player. And it's going to be tough to understand a lot of his advice without more experience in the game. So it might be worth trying to get Emongg to spectate one of your games to help you climb. But what I think would help you even more is playing some quickplay and messing around with abilities to figure out where they are more valuable. The other thing I mentioned before that will help with learning the game is to focus on your positioning, which will come with the gamesense a little. I can tell that a big part of your struggle is you don't know what's going on and you are trying to do too much when the fight is already lost. Or you're trying to help your team too much with healing or something when you need to be in there winning the team fight. Watching other players can help you understand some of this stuff. But it does take some time, and having someone in the game telling you where your team is can help. But what Emongg has said in some of his videos is to always try and know where your teammates are. I usually snap my head 180 degrees constantly as Kiri while also fragging in the enemies backline, and if I see a teammate's almost dead, I can TP and Suzu and they usually win the fight. But with the play demonstrated in this replay Silver makes more sense for you, and it probably placed you bronze because of your lack of awareness/ gamesense. I also wanted to mention that because your account is already in bronze, the last team fight is the most important team fight. While I was climbing out of bronze I would play 100% every team fight. But then once it was the last team fight you got to crank the knob up to 600% and literally be everything for your team in order to win. The pressure in that last team fight is a lot for most bronze players, but if you can play well than it's an easy win after you take the advantage.

    One thing I see regularly in lower elos is that newer players are afraid to not heal in certain situations because they fear their teammates could get angry because they didn't understand there was no chance saving them. Yes, blocking communication is an option but I think that's a factor that sometimes plays into the descision making of some players.

    "I'm hardstuck in bronze on support due to bad team mates, help me on positioning and pathing" brother even without seeing the vod I can already tell you that you're searching for the wrong solutions lmao. This is exactly where you learn that OW is not Valo or CS. OW has vastly more nuanced ability interaction, and thus vastly more nuanced requirements and responsibilities for the role you pick up. You understand the idea of pew pew enemy, crosshair placement and aim, good. You can play dps, and -tank- chonky dps up to a gold level. Support relies on a different understanding entirely, something the other two roles don't really need to learn until you hit plat/diamond (which is funny cus you plateaued right below this threshold, what a coincidence huh).
    Now, lets watch that vod and see the future prediction unfold :)
    EDIT:
    Yep was spot on, you did the classic of trying to adhere to what the role sells you. "Be a good support, help your team, heal, do some pressure, heal some more" -and every single person would be hardstuck bronze their entire life if that was how they approached the game. You can't heal a bronze team to victory. You can't become a server admin in a match by sitting in your own backline spamming heals and generic Kunai knives down main. At best you'll be marginally better than the avg Kiri player doing the exact same thing, cus you're playing into the skill floor of the role and the idea that it sells you. This is where minmaxing and limit testing experience comes in, and ESPECIALLY for someone who is already mechanically good, this is actually even more important -cus you need to learn what absolute murder you can get away with, so that you can abuse the fact that the entire enemy team you're playing against are dogshit. Your team is dog, enemy team is dog, so you need to learn how to become that difference maker. And you don't learn this by playing the generic politically correct support role who balances heal and pressure like some happy-go-lucky work-life balance enjoyer.
    Go murder those bronze noobs 4head.
