    I like the movie but the older I get I realize how toxic their relationship was. Neither one knew how to be vulnerable, effectively communicate, and take accountability. Instead they both projected insecurities, pettiness/immaturity, passive aggression, stubbornness, and often times deflected.

  • @whattude
    @whattude 2 ปีที่แล้ว +98

    I think the biggest mistake Nina made was taking Josie's advice which was the swing point to their relationship that led to the worse. I think as you said she should've just kept it a buck with Darius and let herself be vulnerable to his discretion (which I think he more than likely would've reciprocated). However, Darius is just as much to blame because as a man I can attest that we ALWAYS KNOW what we really want and whether she was forthcoming or not he could've still steered the narrative to his true interests with her by at least being honest and say "No, I ain't cool with you going to New York". And the conversation of why would have developed naturally. I think the one thing this movie teaches us is know what you're feeling and what you're really about and BE ABOUT THAT because you can mess up or miss a good thing.

    Soundtrack was🔥🔥🔥. The movie was well casted. I love when so called black movies don't go out of their way to try and be a black movie if that makes sense. It represented culture without forcing it. Just cool, grown and sexy and well done. Great Netflix and chill movie

      That's because it was made for an AfAm audience. Alot of major releases today aren't not made for an AfAm audience, they're made for foreigners and other non AfAm, so they have to explain everrrrryyttthhhinnggg and change things up to be pallettable to multiple cultures.

    idc Love Jones is my favorite movie. Granted I don't watch it for the romance aspect. That relationship shit is cute, Larenz is fine, Isiah was fine and all but I love the scenery, the music, poetry, the cast and most of all that it's set in my city. It just feels so real.

    I watched Love Jones for the very first time recently and I throughly enjoyed it! It's a classic in black cinema for a reason especially pertaining to black love and the '90's era which was such a special era for black cinema and black culture in general. Nia Long is one of my celebrity girl crushes. She is beautiful, talented, intelligent and unproblematic. Love Jones is definitely one of her very best roles. Same for Larenz Tate he is handsome, talented with a great personality. Love Jones is one of his best roles too. The story/plot, music/soundtrack, cinematography etc are everything in this movie! This was another good review. 🥰😘🎬🎫🎟️🎞️🍿

I was hoping that this movie would be the beginning of a Black romantic comedy string of movies, but unfortunately, we had to wait until The Best Man (The Brothers and Loving Jezebel were hiccups). BTW - eff that character Marvin. That's the kind of character that'll make you dislike the actor, even though you know he was just doing his job. And why does that dude in the Soul Train Line @28:36 look like Kevin Hart?

      As much as a great, breakout role as Menace was, it did kind of typecast Larenz, and threaten to hold him back. Thank goodness he got the role as Darrius, because it helped him break out of that mode.

    • @therealmarlonbellamy
      @therealmarlonbellamy หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@th3azscorpio Larenz Tate was in The Inkwell after Menace II Society. He showed his acting range by going from playing a thug to a socially awkward teenager. He’s been acting since the age of 10 years old. He appeared on tv shows such as 21 Jump Street, Matlock, Amen, The Wonder Years, The Women Of Brewster Place, New Attitude, The Royal Family, You Take The Kids, Family Matters & The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.

    • @th3azscorpio
      @th3azscorpio หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@therealmarlonbellamy I know his history. Yes he demonstrated his range, but he was still being compared heavily to O dog a the time; especially given how close in years the films were. He even somewhat resembles O dog in the Inkwell, with the dreads he has, towards the middle, and end. Love Jones was really that breakout role that actually helped elevate him into another realm of acting. Plus it helps that Love Jones was more known, and a breakout classic hit, as opposed to Inkwell- was still a great film regardless.

    Just finished watching Love Jones, and I loved it. Though its not without its flaws, it manages to touch the heart in the best ways. Lol, both were poor communicators, and semi toxic, but both performances were a pleasure to watch on screen. Though honestly, Darrius gave Nina far more grace than he should have, lol. Even as poorly of a communicator as she was, he was still a sweetheart to her, even in spite of the argument scene. Nina cause more issues than was necessary. Only issue with this film, was the pacing, and some parts that could have been saved for later, I feel. Nia and Larenz on screen chemistry is phenomenal, and Larenz is so fine, and adorable.
    I think what a lotta folks call Darrius stalking as a red flag, is just how old school men used to get down. Men use to be a bit more persistent, and actually chase women they were interested in. This is an unpopular opinion, but I actually think this is what makes his character endearing.
