Terri was the most loyal to her sisters in more than just words. Terri financed the whole family, their dreams, and their debts and was belittled for expressing her feelings and her pain, in return.

Teri is such a strong person and often the strongest in the family are taking advantage of. Big Mama did her best to keep the family together but overall she couldn't straighten out the issues in the family in the end. Teri is the most loyalist sister and the only one who treats the others well verse the others don't care about her at all. The whole entire time watching Teri, I could only be sad for her or crying because how painful her reality was in this family.

If your sister stole your boyfriend and then you had a cousin that slept with your husband and you taking the whole family paying big momma bills paying for your sister wedding she did everything for the family and nobody felt how hurt they never repaid terry back it's like the family really didn't care how she felt the family left terry hanging
Baby I was living for this review! I love this channel so much. I went back and watch this earlier this year and when I was younger I used to think Terry was mean, but now I wished she could of just stabbed that man at that party! Sis had about enough! I feel like the family would just treat her any kind of way, but they were always using her especially when it came down to finances. And don't get me started on the sister marrying her old boyfriend from high school..... I never realized how dysfunctional they were either. But I did love the relationship that the little boy had with his grandmother though. It reminded me of how close me and my great grandmother were when I was little. She is still my whole heart, may she rest in peace. Anyway another great retro review!
Lawd! When you said he risked it all for 5 pumps I instantly had to hit that subscribe button. 🤣🤣🤣 And no you didn't say play Jackson 5 at your funeral but I feel you about that doggone sparrow. In my family it's always that song or I won't complain and I be like this isn't making anyone less sad but I digress. That Smokey song was hitting though. 🙌🏿
I dont think Terry wanted to be with Kenny but I do think she often wondered if her life would be different if her sister never hooked up with Kenny when they were dating
#justice4terri This movie highlights a lot of the burden that bestows financially successful black women, and how they are vilified when they give push back.
The only character who's more relatable is Ahmad, the only kid of the family we don't see interacting with other kids to be more of an adult than his folks. 😑
I'm sorry but I always found Ahmad annoying as hell. Like you a kid, why you all up in grown folks business? Stay yo 10 year old ass in the other room.
Poor Terri didn't catch a break until the sequel TV series & even then she still got shafted every now & then. As someone who got all the financials dumped on me at one point before I spoke up about it, I definitely can relate to Terri.
Terri wasn’t being spiteful by trying to sell the house. She was the one who was footing the bill along with the bill for Byrd’s salon, Terri’s own personal expenses, Mother Joe’s medical bills, and now she’s going to need a divorce attorney.
Girl when you sung his eye is on the sparrow I DIED😂😂😂 Thats literally exactly how she sounded! Favorite channel❤️ keep up the amazing work! Spot on review!
As dysfunctiinonal as that wedding twerk was, back then, in that movie... Fast forward to today, they twerking at real life weddings now, I'm sure you've seen videos like the girl twerking and her dad gives her the evil eye... It's so common place now, they do it at funerals. I was at the gas station recently and 3 girls got out the car at the pump, twerked for a bit, then pumped gas, twerked again (for good measure, I suppose 😆) got in car and left... Twerking out the window. I, I, I, CAN'T, this all this dysfunction
Unfortunately ain’t too many big mommas around no more. They all with the ancestors. What we got now is glammas tryna still hang onto their youth even though that time has come and gone. They out here competing with their daughters and sometimes even granddaughters for social media clout. And usually it’s not much age difference between the two/three generations.
I'm late to the party. I love the movie and the series. In the first episode of the series, peep how Teri and Max were arguing over whether to put low-fat milk in the sweet potato pie. Looking at that just let's me know that family literally dismisses Teri's concerns and feelings until necessary. Toxic indeed.
@@StruggleReviewzTV We ain't even mentioned the fact that Faith is more than likely pregnant now knowing she just told him she passed her audition.🥴 He damn sure didn't pull out after the 5th pump.🤣
Great review! Soul food is a good film and one of my favorites and the soundtrack was amazing as well with a wide variety of talent that produced timeless tracks from Boyz II Men a song for mama, Dru Hill we're not making love no more to Total's trippin', and Milestone I care about you. Til this day it's just wonderful how those five prolific voices of that generation came together to make a masterpiece! Sadly, we will never witness something like that ever again. Keep up the great work 👍
The only thing I disagreed about this video is the thought of Teri trying to push up on Kenny after the fact. I didn’t get that energy at all. I just think it was the aftermath of being done so dirty by her sister and having to deal with it every year since. Yes it’s not ideal to have conversations like that with your sister but I understand 100% with Terri’s coming from.
It costs to be the boss. Terry was paying for the house and everybody was borrowing money from her. She has every right to sell the house. I also find it comical that they all though she was so spiteful yet, that didn’t stop them from asking her for money.
Listening to your reviews is helping me make it through work. Lol! I agree with you about Faith. She knew exactly what she was doing. I also don’t understand why she stayed with Terri instead of at the Grandmothers house. They had to have at least one more extra room in that house. Lol!
I loved Lem Character. He was trying to break away for his rough up bringing and really worked hardtop change even though society was against him. Bird was definitely going to cheat and justify it by saying it was for him
I swear this movie had all the excuses in the world for the men's horrible behavior and condemned the women (especially Terri) for their reactions. Not that the women were perfect, I think Bird was very aptly named haha. Terri's character was triggering for me because it definitely well represents not the only the pressure placed on the eldest girls in Black families, BUT also she represents the isolating poisiton of being the "successful one". What's interesting is that all of their dynamics could definitely pinned to Big Mama/her marriage and the hinted gambling problem that the husband had. Even though I still love the movie, it feels very much like a "strong black woman/pick me" propaganda film haha.
While Teri helped way more than she should've and was taken advantage of by the family, part of the reason she helped so much was to throw it back in their faces or use it as leverage. She wasn't selfless; she knew her success, wealth and open checkbook gave her a certain amount of power that she could hold over their heads, and she tended to enjoy being unpleasant. On one hand, Teri was genuine...enough...but on the other, she was very vindictive.
Poor Teri deserved better. The whole family was ungrateful towards her, in spite of rhe money she was giving everyone; not a single "thank you" was given that day. And Bird was pretty stupid about how she went behind Lem's back with her slimy ex for a job. Even with her not getting him the job, she then emasculates him about losing his previous job, and when he griped about the (legitimate) way that the system is against ex-cons and Black men. AND why did she accept that bracelet from the ex and freaking wear it in front of Lem? She was pathetic. And speaking of Lem, he was dirty and a thug. Why wasn't him grinding on his ex ever addressed again? What did Bird see in him? Did they end up divorced in the series? I really can't remember.
Thanks for the review. I used to watch this all the time when I was younger. The opening scene with big mama doin the bounce will always be my favorite lol

I knew from your energy exactly it's so good to see you posting the video Even though this video was posted about a year ago I'm just so used to you with the other hairstyle I was like hold up I know her.. yes I was just posting about her people don't give Terry enough credit because the mother characters on this show the movie I should say was using her like she said and ATM accessing Terrie's money. .I always was rooting for Terrie..
Thanks for your review. I remember as a kid i only really focused on Ahmad and big mama. I never focused on the families personalities and the fights and stuff. Now as an adult I get alot of the issues the family was going through. So it's alot more entertaining.
I definitely agree with you I always thought the part when Ahmad said that big mama left him some money I was thinking like why were these strong people believe that and why wouldn't she leave for other grandkids money and why would he be giving grown ass people money why would they not talk to his parents don't she have a will or something
I love this movie and the TV series both cast was amazing hopefully they do a reunion with the movie cast and the TV series cast I wouldn't be surprised if they try to do a new movie or a reboot of the TV series I can see a reboot of the TV series for some reason or a spin-off
Great review, Soul Food is a good film, Vanessa Williams, Vivica Fox and Nia Long were all great in the film eventhough I was annoyed with Nia Long's character Bird, but she played that part great, hopefully the original cut of the film comes out cause on the original cut its almost 3 hours long, Im just thinking what they took out so the film will not be too long, anyways Happy Thanksgiving
macaroni and cheese have pork ingredients in it and a lot of other food have pork and ingredients in it as well. toothpaste and candy also have it in it too I hate when people say they don't eat pork just day u don't eat pork steak, pork chops, ham, beacon or chitterlings
Bro its crazy the family judged terri at every turn for her justified behaviour mean while slim over her criminals record running around with a chip on his shoulder breaking windows and carrying weapons around while on probation
I remember when I first saw this movie. I just fell in love with it. My best favorite characters is Lem and Ahmad. I always thought they were the father and son in this movie because of their chemistry. I’ve always loved mother joe. She reminds me of my grandmother. I also liked Kenny too because he was a good man. I just realized now that most of the characters wasn’t shit. Teri, Maxine, Bird, Miles, Faith, and the ex Simuel.
Right because when Maxine and Terri were shocked by Lem's ex dancing nasty against him, the look on her face towards Ahmad was like "Don't worry, baby I got it covered."
I love this review and I’m with u I don’t want any of those sad depressing songs at my home going 😂😂 let some Jill Scott play 🤣🤣 something other than the normal mess 🤣🤣
You'll be surprised how many families are really dysfunctional like this (including my own) they would rather sweep issues under the rug than to confront them
Actually it's nothing wrong with eating Soul Food. What harming Afro American people is process food, fast food, drugs, and alcohol. Collard Greens have calcium same as black eye peas. For example, when individuals want to make ice cream to make it healthier they use sweet potatoes .
Yea it's all about balance and moderation. Too much of anything can hurt you. Eating like that every day can cause all sorts of health issues. Fried Chicken? Mac and Cheese? All that grease and butter.
It’s the way we choose to cook soul food a lot of the time that’s a problem. Most people put a lot of fatty, salty pork with their collard greens. Then the excessive butter and salt in most of the dishes. You don’t have to make it that way, but most do.
Why nobody whooped faith axx is still confusing to me?! Terri didn’t even whoop her axx when she first found out that’s how ik she was better than me bc I’d be sitting in the cell…that’s probably why
@Struggle Reviewz Tv Now the thing with Big Mama refusing to go to the doctor for her arm is that you have to remember the time she came up in! You know back in the day's healthcare, black people were discriminated against, mistreated, misdiagnosed, and became lab rats for crazy experiments they had no knowledge of which excluded their consent! These things still occur today but they were more horrific then and this is the reason why black people (especially ones living in the country) of Big Mama's generation and generations on back rarely went to the doctor! They just stuck with their herbal healing traditions when someone was sick, had aches and pains, got injured etc. hence she saying "Aint nothing my good herbs and some turpentine won't fix!' Also, lets not forget them calling the midwife whenever a woman or girl(thats a whole different story😡) went into labor! 🤷♀ It had nothing to do with them not caring about their health and they didn't know that the way they cooked our precious soul food was harmful to the body!

Her family had no loyalty to her!
If your sister stole your boyfriend and then you had a cousin that slept with your husband and you taking the whole family paying big momma bills paying for your sister wedding she did everything for the family and nobody felt how hurt they never repaid terry back it's like the family really didn't care how she felt the family left terry hanging
@@KearoJenkins Damn right! Dia-damn-bolical!
Anytime anything happens to a black woman: STOP BEING BITTER YOU NEED TO LET IT GO!
whole time while continuing to do ish to you
Baby I was living for this review!
Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed it ! ❤️💕🥰
Vivica Fox character always taken someone’s man lol
“ Frankie” 😎😎🤣😂
#justice4terri
This movie highlights a lot of the burden that bestows financially successful black women, and how they are vilified when they give push back.
Everybody passing peas and sh!t😂😂😂
Terri was the Oldest so she basically had the responsibilities of her father after he passed it seemed like
The only character who's more relatable is Ahmad, the only kid of the family we don't see interacting with other kids to be more of an adult than his folks. 😑
I'm sorry but I always found Ahmad annoying as hell. Like you a kid, why you all up in grown folks business? Stay yo 10 year old ass in the other room.
Ikr
Poor Terri didn't catch a break until the sequel TV series & even then she still got shafted every now & then. As someone who got all the financials dumped on me at one point before I spoke up about it, I definitely can relate to Terri.
Terri wasn’t being spiteful by trying to sell the house. She was the one who was footing the bill along with the bill for Byrd’s salon, Terri’s own personal expenses, Mother Joe’s medical bills, and now she’s going to need a divorce attorney.
I think its weird how nobody discussed life insurance for Big Momma.....like HELLO??
Girl when you sung his eye is on the sparrow I DIED😂😂😂 Thats literally exactly how she sounded! Favorite channel❤️ keep up the amazing work! Spot on review!
Thank you ! 😂
Ahmad’s tears tho in this movie…goodness that kid can act. What happened to him?
As dysfunctiinonal as that wedding twerk was, back then, in that movie... Fast forward to today, they twerking at real life weddings now, I'm sure you've seen videos like the girl twerking and her dad gives her the evil eye... It's so common place now, they do it at funerals. I was at the gas station recently and 3 girls got out the car at the pump, twerked for a bit, then pumped gas, twerked again (for good measure, I suppose 😆) got in car and left... Twerking out the window.
I, I, I,
CAN'T, this all this dysfunction
I feel like Big Mama was the real villain of the story. Maxine was clearly her golden child, and Ahmad was the next gen golden child
I'm glad the family's taking advantage of Terri is being discussed. This is the third video I've seen discussing this.
Yup.
Cornbread is my specialty! I been cooking cornbread longer than you been alive ! Lol love terri standing on her cornbread
Watching this movie again as a adult had me realize that most of the characters had HORRIBLE Boundaries 😑😑😑😑
As we get older we get closer to the other side, that’s why Big Mamas always have so many premonitions.
That makes sense !
Soul Food is a classic. 25 years later it still holds up and has an important message about faith, family and soul food. This was another good review.
“You got Faith getting the f*** out”😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
"You saw me get my 5 pumps?"🥴🤣
🤣😭 that’s ALL it was!
@@StruggleReviewzTV
We ain't even mentioned the fact that Faith is more than likely pregnant now knowing she just told him she passed her audition.🥴
He damn sure didn't pull out after the 5th pump.🤣
I screamed so hard when you said “who tf is cola “ 😂😂😂😂
Does anyone remember the Soul Food Cookbook that was stored in The Original VHS I miss those days
Two things I've learned about you, you love you some character development. Well, that and pillows .
Yes! Both are so necessary 😂 movies are so rushed now when they don’t have to be like y’all have 2+ hrs why are we invested in these characters!
Giiiiirl you betta saaang all the 90s jams ❤❤❤❤
Great review! Soul food is a good film and one of my favorites and the soundtrack was amazing as well with a wide variety of talent that produced timeless tracks from Boyz II Men a song for mama, Dru Hill we're not making love no more to Total's trippin', and Milestone I care about you. Til this day it's just wonderful how those five prolific voices of that generation came together to make a masterpiece! Sadly, we will never witness something like that ever again. Keep up the great work 👍
Thank You 🥰
The only thing I disagreed about this video is the thought of Teri trying to push up on Kenny after the fact. I didn’t get that energy at all. I just think it was the aftermath of being done so dirty by her sister and having to deal with it every year since. Yes it’s not ideal to have conversations like that with your sister but I understand 100% with Terri’s coming from.
I agree. No loyalty from her sisters.
Seeing that iconic film in a whole new light. Thank you for BURSTING MY BUBBLE!😡😄❤️ KIDDINNNNNGuh! Love your reviews and your JMOR commentary.
Thank You! 😂
Watching this at 1 am and it was super good. You are so relatable. :))
Love this film!!! It is so many quotables in there. lmfaaooo.
0:51 girl you got a whole spirit in your home. I saw that orb fly right over your head going straight up on the right hand side. And you see it again at the bottom right corner at 10:00
Edit: I seen them all this video. You may want to bless your home.
Girl OMG knew that was you!
I am glad that they expanded Terri's story in the TV show and gave her a good man.
Damon?! He was a hot mess🤣
@@StruggleReviewzTV Yea but the actors' chemistry was on point! To the point that they got married in real life lol
@@StruggleReviewzTV the bar was low unfortunately lol
🔥🔥🔥 Review can you review Set it off one day I love 90s nostalgia
Thanks for your review. I remember as a kid i only really focused on Ahmad and big mama. I never focused on the families personalities and the fights and stuff. Now as an adult I get alot of the issues the family was going through. So it's alot more entertaining.
I definitely agree with you I always thought the part when Ahmad said that big mama left him some money I was thinking like why were these strong people believe that and why wouldn't she leave for other grandkids money and why would he be giving grown ass people money why would they not talk to his parents don't she have a will or something
The real question is why Big Ma didn't use the money herself to pay off the house, or give Bird money for her shop?
Faith Was Foul
I love this movie and I love the TV series this is a classic movie
I love this movie and the TV series both cast was amazing hopefully they do a reunion with the movie cast and the TV series cast I wouldn't be surprised if they try to do a new movie or a reboot of the TV series I can see a reboot of the TV series for some reason or a spin-off
so far they aren't biting. That said ,if they gave tired Sex in the City a dust-off, why not...
Damn an extra hr or DRAMA ! 😫
macaroni and cheese have pork ingredients in it and a lot of other food have pork and ingredients in it as well. toothpaste and candy also have it in it too I hate when people say they don't eat pork just day u don't eat pork steak, pork chops, ham, beacon or chitterlings
Im watching this channel for the first time your thumbnails drew me in so I'm subscribing before watching
I saw this in theaters with my Mom & Aunt.
Here in front of a big plate of food ready to watch! Happy Thanksgiving 🍽🍁🦃
I hope it’s good! 😂💕
Lolita 😂 hilarious. Eat some lard ( girl stop it) 😆
I love your reviews I can literally watch them all day long and I always go back and watch the movies after your POV 👍🏿 keep up the good work

Hey struggle my favorite part is with the lawyer said till him who is the F is cola and he said She had a body like a cola bottle back in the day
😂❤️
Right because when Maxine and Terri were shocked by Lem's ex dancing nasty against him, the look on her face towards Ahmad was like "Don't worry, baby I got it covered."
I love this review and I’m with u I don’t want any of those sad depressing songs at my home going 😂😂 let some Jill Scott play 🤣🤣 something other than the normal mess 🤣🤣
That his eyes are on the sparrow takes me out every time!!!! 😫
You'll be surprised how many families are really dysfunctional like this (including my own) they would rather sweep issues under the rug than to confront them
Hi there, this is the 2nd video I've watched of yours, I'm definitely subscribing. You are hysterical 🤣🤣🤣🤣❤❤❤
New subscriber, and may I say your opening music theme is 🧨
Thank you ❤️❤️❤️❤️ and thanks for subscribing!
@@nettegaines2067 Yes. My grandma puts pork in all the greens. Like, damn! Why can't we let a vegetable be a vegetable?!
“Who tf is Cola” 😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣 that line takes me out everytime
Ahmad was like 👀🤷♂️😱😤🤦♀️🤬
That family is too much like my own family 😅
I'm enjoying your videos. You mad funny 😂🤣😂

But you would think people like Teri, Maxine and Bird were well informed and likely kept telling Big Ma things she could do to stay healthy
Big momma was my momma. Even til the day she died she was also Terri.
