Hey! In Brazil we fish several species with hellgrammite. Here it is known as "lacrau". We collected them in our yard, beneath the smooth stones in the rocky streams of cold, crystalline waters. Right now I have a dozen of them here to go fishing tomorrow! ;) It's also considered the best bait for the Piau-Três-Pintas (Leporinus friderici), the most disputed fish in my region for its sportiness and very tasty meat. I know, technically it should be harder to do it like this, but in fact they are flatter than we can see through the photos. As I said, these larvae inhabit fast water, where they are trapped in the rocks, and they look more like a little piece of velcro brand tape than the traditional earthworm-shaped larvae as we usually know. Nice work, as always! Keep it up.

YESSSSSSS. This was one of my suggestions. Can't take credit of course, I'm sure countless others did as well. Us smallmouth fishers know the beauty of this creature. I haven't watched the video yet because I'm finishing up this podcast first. But if you didn't slay with this lure I'm just going to go ahead and suggest you go back out again to wherever the smallies are.

He definitely needs to hit a spot with some nice smallmouth bass. A small creek near me has some smallies up to 3 pounds. I'm sure that lure would work like a champion there. I have used the Rebel brand hellgrammite lures in this creek and they work great. I have never tried the soft plastic baits there, but I am sure they would be fantastic.

Hello Nate, as usual greetings from Peru... what a patient and incredible work. I didn’t know the name of this larvae. HELLGRAMMITE...Some time ago a friend of mine told me about them, because he captured some under the rocks in the river shore when he went to catch some trouts in the highlands.
Given the good success, he asked me to tie a fly similar to a picture he took to one of those larvae. I did and they worked very well. Those flies are very effective. It seems trouts like them a lot.
Now that I know they are Hellgrammite, I’m gonna search for some other videos.
Thank you for sharing this sequence of particular lures that you are doing, as I told you, I really enjoy your work and I’m ready for your next video.

That's awesome man! I know a guy from TX that would go crazy for a hellgrammite soft plastic. He is crazy about them! There is a version of it that comes in the liquid but you have to keep them in it or they dry up. And there are hard lipped versions of it (that doesn't swim well) but I have never seen a soft plastic version of it. May want to be careful who you give that mold too, or you may see it on the shelves one day. ha ha

Great looking lure. Jigging the is not a natural presentation though. I use live rigged helgies by slipping a size 6-10 hook under the thorax collar and a small split shot about 6 inches up the line. Cast into current slightly upstream and drift it down into holes and slack area. Like nymph fishing with a fly rod. Helgies don’t swim. They crawl on the bottom and live in holes under rocks. Proper presentation will get good results with that bait. Nice work. Love your tenacity and craftsmanship.
