    I would just add a faucet and use one of those rectangular pop out silicon basins with a drain on the bottom inserted into a cutout. It would be a lot deeper and fold closed when not deployed. But still a very cool setup.

    The misses and I are building for a trans-Africa tour in 2023. Her NUMBER 1 requirement is that the truck doesn't look like a car boot sale (yard sale for Americans ;-) every time she wants to make something to eat. She HATES having to completely unload the truck just make a sandwich. Worse, you then have to pack it all back up. Other than dust issues, your solution looks pretty good!

    This looks great! Only observation would be how dirty/dusty this will get after a day on trail, so it will have to wiped down completely before use, as well as needing to be dust-proof for anything stored inside. It is for this reason that we removed even our drop-tray that was attached to the tire carrier because it just go too filthy to use.
    The design concept totally rocks though!

    I'm sure it's way too late for this comment...for myself and a bunch of other people we camp with, we have lovely kitchens in our camper trailers here in Aus, and none of us use the sink...we use the depth, but we find it far more convenient to place in a small collapsible silicone sink. It allows for extra bench space when not in use, and the dishwater can be thrown out well away from camp - much less stinky and doesn't make a wet area or require an extra bucket underneath...save yourself the $$ on the flashy sink.

  • @WanderlostOverland

    The jury is still out on this one. Looks like a lot to bend, break, or go wrong with it from bouncing around on trails. Can't wait to see the finished product and to be proved wrong!

    Gas lifts like on the hatch also come in a version that “pulls” instead of extending. You could use that between the first extension (sink section) and the pantry. This will help support when open AND it will help close the folded section. Hope that makes sense.

    I like the concept. IMO, I'm trying to get away from the propane singles and move to a 5Lb refillable. The other thing that comes to mind, which I've seen you with a pullout version, is the hinged cutting/prep surface. I like the fact that you have it on the rack, I haven't seen that done with much detail.

    • @OverlandBound

    • @OverlandBound

      Parnell was saying we’d start with solid aluminum, but we are definitely in the design phase in terms of construction.

  • @timothyroelensii6494

    What if you switched the sink and stoves? You could (potentially) leave the propane bottle screwed into the stove and that last flip out section would be lighter and easier to flip out.

    Design question, can you Mount the sink and cooktop sideways and set as far apart as possible? That way they can each be operated from either side and you maximize the counter space in between. Does that make sense?

    • @OverlandBound
      @OverlandBound  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does make sense! Tolerances are pretty tight. Stove you can use from both sides. Sink has a lid, making it hard. Because the kitchen turns 90 degrees to fasten to bumper, the deeper the counter (to accommodate turning sink/stove, the farther out it will be from the back of truck. This will make the departure angle worse. It’s a trade off.

  • @J.Young808
    @J.Young808 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    So where does the fuel and water you replaced go?

  • @placestosea
    @placestosea 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    have you considered the uneven ground you will be on ( even with levelling ramps) that far out from the vehicle the work surface could be way to high or way too low. that's the problem with most pull out drawers that are long.

  • @SamAminisam

    GREAT idea. but so many flaws. both the sink and gas top you chose will break in your first outing. The folding faucet leaks as it is (winnie Revel used to use it) and the big RV manufacturers are going back to regular sink. (maybe dometic is paying for this?). the stove top is too heavy. sealing this will be next to impossible. My suggestion: use collapsible plastic sink, and regular portable stove. Reinventing the wheel is hard work 🙂

    • @SamAminisam
      @SamAminisam 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      one more thought... why is it you dont have a cover for your existing water/tire? ... I would say the same reason could also apply for the new kitchen setup. Dust and food don't go together... and dust will win every battle 🙂
