All of a sudden she comes out of the water and runs towards me and then starts yelping and tail between the legs. I immediately took both her normal collar and e-collar off. While I was touching the e-collar I felt it constantly pulsing at what felt like the highest setting. I tried turning it off and it wouldn't. I went and bought the Garmin Pro model because it has two LED's on the side for a light (my lab is black and we go for walks at night on the sandbars and trails) so those LED's make it nice for me to see her. I've replaced the battery once in the collar in the last 3 years. I love it. Like Tom says its all about how you approach it. If you are only using it in the wrong way your pet will be afraid of it. I never use it for the pulse or nicking feature vibrate and tone is it. I've trained her that tone means that's far enough away and vibrate means return to heal. Would you be doing a video on how you use the remote collar in your off leash training? I've seen a couple different methods from other trainers. What do you recommend?
My dog is off leashed trained already. I have a cheap Amazon collar but need a new one! I want something cheap and better than the one I have now! I have a Karelian Bear dog we just moved and now she doesn’t care about the collar! I’m thinking about getting the Dogtra!
Hi. I love your video. I bought a mini educator but I think your approach and explanation is soooo much better. I have a greyhound that is very stubborn, she stops when she wants to stop , stops bc she doesn’t want to go down a certain block etc. where I used to live she had a pack that would run and play on the beach. I moved and the dog beach I go to is secluded but she found the exit twice and I panicked. I bought the ecollar for safety. Sometimes she goes bonkers in a second if she sees something. How do I prevent this with the collar? When would u use the shock function? I have not used this at the beach yet until I learn how to use it better and my dog understands also. What are your suggestions for a greyhound ? Have u ever used an e collar on a greyhound ?
I've used a Dogtra 1900s for a couple years with my 90lb. Shepherd. By just puting it on her she knows she going to have fun and I get a great response from her. Thx Tom for a great video. 👍😎🐺🐾
@@sashaadair480 Hey, overall I like it...I swapped out the stiff "plastic"collar for a more flexable rubber one. The reciever is on the big side but I have a big dog. I ordered longer contact points since she is a plush coated Shiloh Shepherd. Good luck👍😎
@@sashaadair480 I can't speak about other devices but 1900s is tough and waterproof...This is the 1st ecollar I've owned but once my dog was trained in obediance it just made life so much easier....she is very high drive and you can't take drive out of a dog only control it. That is the main reason I bought the ecollar. It allows me to control that dirve from 200m. away. Hope that answers you questions
I've got a high-drive, easily aroused Dutch/pit 100-lb mix who is responding very well to his e-collar training BUT he can easily blow through the one I'm using if he's on the chase. I have 3 unfenced acres I camp on and need a more reliable collar. He knows his commands and responds quickly but I need to know he'll call off every time a golf cart or 4-wheeler goes by. I don't need him chasing them or deer or whatever. I also need him to call off bears and wild pigs. The one I'm using is fine for a "regular" dog but I need distance and enough power. Dogra seems to be best but which one for our needs? He's got a pretty good temperament but sometimes.....I love your channel btw!
Most of the time, a Dogtra or a collar from EcollarTechnologies that is fitted properly will deliver a stimulation sufficient for any dog. Quite often the issue is how the collar is fitted or which contact points people are using. If you are confident that your collar is fitted properly and you have the correct contact points then you could try to get the Boss from EcollarTechnologies. I am sure that Dogtra also has something similar but I am less familiar with Dogtra. Cheers.
What's the life expectancy of these products? Obviously, being a quality product, I'm not expecting it to go out after a couple years. Is it a "lifetime" product, or being technology would it wear out and need replaced eventually?
Hi Tom. Hope you see this. We have been watching your videos since first got our puppy, female German Shepherd. She is now 13 months. Her obedience and heel walking training has been not bad, 8/10, we constantly working on it cause it is a learning process for us and the dog. But over the past few months, she developed this excited/anxious yelping bark when first get out of the car, or at a new place where she expects exciting or scary (Vet) things to happen. Sowe have tried different methods so far, like leave it (she understands the command) then sharp ah-ah if she doesn't stop , reward the quiet moment. But the problem is when she is in the zone yelping barking, it's high pitched n constant, it's hard to find a gap till she finishes. Also sometimes I feel like the sharp ah-ah may have made her feel like she got answered?? So we really don't know if we are doing the right things. We have got different responses from different trainers, which made us more confusing. Some say not to respond to the negative behaviour, some say we need to let the dog know that the unwanted behaviour is not to be encouraged so we need to let the dog know that. If you see this in your busy schedule, please reply, we would really appreciate your help. Thank you. Have a good day.
I have a 9 month old APBT male I just got him started on the e collar. The mini educator. I just ordered the 4 prong comfort pads CP001, will that make it better for him? Should I just stick with the ones that came with the set for short haired? I placed it originally at the top of his neck and he barely responded at a 30! outside on a walk with distractions as I even saw his neck contracting with the taps! I feel bad did I do something wrong? So I ordered these pads and I think maybe place it midneck?
I have an excitable pitbull who can be stubborn. Which would you suggest for him. When he gets excited it's like he loses his hearing and doesn't listen.
Old video but I need help. Suffered from an accident during brand new puppy training(Shepard). He’s now 4months old and family is doing what they can but they loose control when trying to excercise dog off leash out back. Nicer weather so more steet activity. Can an E collar save us from those surprizes? If so, how to train for that? We have normal ‘come’ but not distracted ‘come’!
Could you talk more about the 1900s one. I’m thinking on getting that one because I like how strong it is. And that is the most popular large breed E-Collar.
What collar do u recommend for a unsocialized leash reactive Pomeranian 😁 its my moms dog. My chihuahua is very well behaved. My older mother 78...doesnt believe in dog training.😁 becuz my dad passed last year and was in charge of walking bear....he ended up stuck in the house/backyard for 6 months...untill I realized he wasnt being walked. Now I go every day and walk him. He acts like a snarling rottie untill he reaches the stranger dog. If the dog is calm he relaxes does his sniffs and moves on. But untrained humans are usually scared and run off with their dogs. I've tried everything on walks. Now trying the vibrate collar. Since the dog doesnt live with me and never listens to my mom...imagine that... Can I train him with the collar just for walks with me and my dog?
And the batteries really don't die, I mean you have it on them for a few hours or if you're coming or going and charge it otherwise... they last forever.... and more importantly, it's a training tool. My dogs are fine 99% of the time and I don't even need to use the pager... but JUST IN CASE... they are well behaved and obedient. One of them has a serious prey drive with squirrels though and this... this has saved her!
excellent video, thank you - they are very helpful! One questions, where can I find the elastic bungie cord for the e collar. I don't see it in your Amazon list. Thanks!
So I understand you have very good engagement and behaviors with your dogs so you need to use the units very infrequently. Does that ever become a problem if you go too long without needing to use a correction on the remote collar? Do dogs have to wipe off the cobwebs to understand it again or ever regress with the collar losing it's effectiveness / how do you ensure that doesn't happen?
My dog has great recall, he just doesn't like other dogs. He was fine when he was younger but it seems like in his old age he loses patience easily and snaps on them. He shows stalking signals towards the puppies I have and I have stopped him before he gets into that state of mind, but I don't know if i should train him to avoid the puppies when he sees them, or force him to socialize when there are new dogs around
My Dogtra 1900s is on the way for my Dutch Shepherd, Mina. Her recall off leash is pretty good for nine months but her coprophagia is HORRENDOUS and I really hope that the ecollar will disrupt the behavior
A question and thank you but we have an electric collar fence GSD only fights it until the auto stops which means he could bolt but we have 3 acres of woven fenced in place. He just fights the collar limits like it is the enemy. Other dog no problem she just all is good. a suggestion? Back up start again?
From what I understand, you have an electric fence and your dog probably doesn't understand why they are getting shocked. An electric fence doesnt really teach a dog anything, except to either be afraid and/or fight the invisible attacker. I can imagine your dog might be very frustrated because it doesn't understand that a boundary is not to be crossed. Have you tried teaching your dog the boundaries of the yard? Do you have an e-collar in addition to the electric fence? When Tom uses his e-collar, it is used to communicate and show what the dog is supposed to do, it is aversive but it is not a strong shocking punishment like an electric fence could be
Wht exactly is the name of the first two collars u said? You said it so fast I couldn’t understand you so please tell me again what the names of those two colors were so I can order one because my dog is out of control
I’ve been binging almost all your videos for some advice on how to help with my reactive GSD! He’s come a long way but still is reactive to other dogs. But where I live it’s hard to get any decent training done. Most of the dog owners who live in my building have small dogs and never keep them on leash. My question is is how do I get a decent training session for my reactive dog when I can’t control when those smaller dogs come running at us?? Could you possibly make a video on that? I can’t seem to find advice or anything for this anywhere. Thanks!
Omg yes I have the same issue with smaller yapping dogs. Other owners don’t see their little yappers as having a problem but then they look at my pit going crazy and I’m the one with a horrible/aggressive dog 😒 I’m at least trying to get him to calm down his reactivity issues.
@@missyg1793 exactly my situation! My GSD has already been bit by a small dog while living here. But if anything were to happen I just know my dog would be blamed even though it’s their small dog who was off leash and not mine. I’m not giving up on him though. Glad to know someone else has the same problem!
@@thejindoman7471 thank you for the advice! I’ll definitely do that. I’ll try my best if I need to “make myself big” when other dogs come at us but I am only 4’11” lol. Thanks for the help about what to do. Much appreciated!
This is a great channel to watch ! I recently adopted a dog , he's a German shepherd pitbull mix! I watched many videos of dog trainers on how to do certain things with your dogs . This channel is the best by far!
My dog is a mutt. I believe he has pit bull or Rottweiler in him, maybe some boxer. Anyways he’s very reactive to people and dogs. Recently he has escaped from his harness and gone after neighborhood dogs. I am mortified. I’ve been really thinking of getting the e collar but I’m afraid that since he doesn’t know how to lay down or stay on command that he isn’t ready. I’m honestly at a loss. He’s 2 years old and usually only sits for me if I have treats or a toy. If we are outside, forget it. He intentionally doesn’t listen to me. He doesn’t follow my lead on leash or come when I call his name. He is a strong (75lb) puller. I want to do the e collar because I feel like it’s my last hope and I’m watching all of your videos and I want to implement your training tools. I just need to know if an e collar would even work for me at this point. ):
Will the bungie collar work with an Educator 300? I'm happy with the Educator, but this would be so much easier to put the collar on. (My dog actually sticks his head in the collar, so he really likes it! It has been a life-saver with this strong border collie from cattle herding stock.)
Just started the video but I've seen a few questions get answered so I'll shoot first and see if you answer in the video later Will this work for a small dog? I have two chihuahua mixes, so they're a bit bigger than other chihuahuas I've seen, ones just below and the other is just above 10 pounds, if it's designed a bit bigger. Do you have any recommendations? I've just started researching and Amazon is where I started, but... it's Amazon, they've been hit or miss for me
Just received my dogtra arc and am so excited to use it and am binge watching your vids to learn! Just wondering is it ok if i use the ecollar as a normal collar and attach the lead to it?
@@jeanrenelatraille6421 I always make sure my dog understands what I want of them without the remote. I have a dog that is going deaf now (he's 11, but acts like a 5-year-old. ) The tone he can still hear, but can't always hear me. I also use it if my dogs are in danger of being hurt or hurting something else and they are off lead. That is the only time I have need of a remote.
@@oranjmusemeyer968 : This is a good idea. My whippet died in West Virginia because she hadn't been trained by her previous owners, and she would chase cars on the highway. If I had had an ecollar, I could have gotten her attention so that she would eventually have paid attention to my directions and not impulsively run out into traffic. Her former owners just beat her, so she had been both abused and neglected. This dog training technology would have saved her life. RIP Sadie
I got a training collar because our new rescue jumps our fence to go meet the dogs 2 yards over. When should I correct him? He looks up to judge the height of the fence first. Shock him then? Do I yell NO at the same time?
There is a lot of training that needs to be done before you can use the e-collar in this way otherwise your dog might develop some pretty serious problem. At the very least, make sure you condition the collar. One thing you can do is to say NO and give your dog an alternative behavior like come. If the dog does not come you can press on the e-collar but this should be a low level stimulation not a full-on shock. Repeat the come command. I hope this helps. Cheers.
Have you worked with sporting dogs? I have a wonderful Brittany she 18 mos. We just got a ecollar because i want her to have fun on our hikes but i can't seem to be confident to getting her totally off leash. Her recall is about 50%. 🙄
I have a GSP and she’s also about 50% with recall. 🤦🏻♀️ She’s 9 months. I have an ecollar for her and we are starting to condition her with it. Hoping it helps!
I need one for my 15 lb poodle mix and I’m looking for one that’s not huge or heavy on his skinny little neck. I did try an inexpensive one (they seem to be the only ones who have small-ish ones (though still not small enough, imho) but their stimulations are too strong even on the lowest setting. The vibration mode also freaked my dog out. So what can I use?
Hi Tom, Thank you so much for your videos. I get so much out of them. I have had an adopted German Shepherd with 3 paws. He's very reactive but we work on it every day and we see many improvements. Now we want to buy a Dogtra but are hesitating about 2 models. The ARC models look the most comfortable for him because of the shape but have a less heavy pager. The 280c I think is less comfortable in shape (correct me if I am wrong) but has a stronger pager. My dog is fairly sensitive to his neck for his prong, do you think the ARC is the best choice for him? He often lies down and I don't want the e collar in his way but I also want him to respond to the pager. Thanks again for all you do. Because of your knowledge I've been able to not only help my own dog but also help several other dogs and dog owners just by teaching them some basic but important stuff. You are awesome! Thanks, Max.
Hey just looked through your Amazon and the bungee isn't listed (or I'm blind lol) ... btw as far as No Bad Dog merch that bungee would be a really good idea. I see you using it A LOT. Other than that I wanted to ask if you've ever worked with an American Tundra Shepherd? I know you aren't a hybrid/wolfdog fan for pets/family members and it goes back and forth with people if these are hybrid/wolfdogs or not. Personally I find them to be a completely amazing breed.
I want the arc so bad for my Service dog in training there so expensive though so the Mini iq work for bigger dogs because it says it’s for little dogs ? And I have a 65 lb 6 month old shepwililer I have used Amazon brands in my other dog and works great but she does have a high prey drive and that one does not phase her lol

My dog is off leashed trained already. I have a cheap Amazon collar but need a new one! I want something cheap and better than the one I have now! I have a Karelian Bear dog we just moved and now she doesn’t care about the collar! I’m thinking about getting the Dogtra!
Thank you for the discount code!!! Just bought the dogtra 280c
I am so excited to see a video I have missed you
Missed you guys too!
@@tomdavisofficial missed you for sure!! Glad you got the new computer and you're baaaaacccckkkk!! ❤🙏
Just in time! I need a new e-collar!! Thank you Tom! 💙🐾
👍😎🐺🐾
How do you like the 1900s? I’m thinking on getting that one.
@@sashaadair480 Hey, overall I like it...I swapped out the stiff "plastic"collar for a more flexable rubber one. The reciever is on the big side but I have a big dog. I ordered longer contact points since she is a plush coated Shiloh Shepherd. Good luck👍😎
@@ianmckenzie5303 yeah! I also have a German Shepherd too. What do you like about the 1900s?
@@sashaadair480 I can't speak about other devices but 1900s is tough and waterproof...This is the 1st ecollar I've owned but once my dog was trained in obediance it just made life so much easier....she is very high drive and you can't take drive out of a dog only control it. That is the main reason I bought the ecollar. It allows me to control that dirve from 200m. away. Hope that answers you questions
@@ianmckenzie5303 okay awesome!! What level do you normally have it on?
I appreciate you going into detail about both of these collars, thank you
I've got a high-drive, easily aroused Dutch/pit 100-lb mix who is responding very well to his e-collar training BUT he can easily blow through the one I'm using if he's on the chase.
So good to see where to put collar
HI I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL AND WHAT YOU DO!!
Thanks for the input Tom
Thanks for watching!
I love your vids..have helped me so much with my 9 month old Boxer.thank you
Thanks again Amber!
I just bought the 280c! Thanks for the review!
Does the 280c have good power?
@@kennynoNope yes it does
Old video but I need help.
Do you have control of the dog when the batteries die?
Of course
And the batteries really don't die, I mean you have it on them for a few hours or if you're coming or going and charge it otherwise... they last forever.... and more importantly, it's a training tool. My dogs are fine 99% of the time and I don't even need to use the pager... but JUST IN CASE... they are well behaved and obedient. One of them has a serious prey drive with squirrels though and this... this has saved her!
excellent video, thank you - they are very helpful! One questions, where can I find the elastic bungie cord for the e collar. I don't see it in your Amazon list. Thanks!
Lmao at 8:13. Classic Malinois always wanting to munch on their owners. Great video btw! Hope to see more on e-collars!
Haha!
He shows stalking signals towards the puppies I have and I have stopped him before he gets into that state of mind, but I don't know if i should train him to avoid the puppies when he sees them, or force him to socialize when there are new dogs around
appreciate the helpful Info!
Like the hair! Love the info!
When Tom uses his e-collar, it is used to communicate and show what the dog is supposed to do, it is aversive but it is not a strong shocking punishment like an electric fence could be
I have a question, is that collar enough for a 90+ lb German Shepherd? Is there an electrical sensation?
I use the mini educator for my dogs when we hike
Nice!
Great video, lots of info 😊
Thanks Lisa!!
Wht exactly is the name of the first two collars u said? You said it so fast I couldn’t understand you so please tell me again what the names of those two colors were so I can order one because my dog is out of control
Would you recommend a separate remote per dog or one remote would be fine for 2 dog collars being used at the same time
I’ve been binging almost all your videos for some advice on how to help with my reactive GSD!
How long does it take to condition your dog to the e collar
Depends on the dog and handler
Gotcha I was thinking about going to you guys to help me with the process soon
I’m trying to find the bungee collar, but it’s not on your Amazon list. Can you post a link so I can buy the correct one?
This is a great channel to watch ! I recently adopted a dog , he's a German shepherd pitbull mix! I watched many videos of dog trainers on how to do certain things with your dogs . This channel is the best by far!
Are they really water proof because I’ve had my dog jump in the multiple times now and now it doesn’t want to work
Hey Tom! What video camera model do you use? I love the quality of the outdoor shots!
Where can we buy the bungee collar that Tom uses on the 280C?
Hi Tom Is there is a way to unlock 10 second safety features of stimulation mini educator I have a ft 330
Thanks for the video tom and great info!
Thank you for this video!
How much time do you spend training a new young dog at any given session?
15 minute sessions
Where can you buy the bungie attachment?
Just started the video but I've seen a few questions get answered so I'll shoot first and see if you answer in the video later
Will this work for a small dog? I have two chihuahua mixes, so they're a bit bigger than other chihuahuas I've seen, ones just below and the other is just above 10 pounds, if it's designed a bit bigger. Do you have any recommendations? I've just started researching and Amazon is where I started, but... it's Amazon, they've been hit or miss for me
Trying to find the link for the bungee you’re using. Can’t find it. Can you help? Also, The new Arc Hands Free Plus. Any input on that one?
Just received my dogtra arc and am so excited to use it and am binge watching your vids to learn! Just wondering is it ok if i use the ecollar as a normal collar and attach the lead to it?
No. E collar sits separate up behind the dogs ears.
Do they have tone? I usually only need the tone to remind my dogs to listen to me.
Most of them do have tone but it is rather expensive if this is the only feature you will be using.
@@ThePyrshepnBelgn Yeah it is pretty much the same with me. I use it more when there is an emergency than anything else.
Is the dog sport collar a good one ?
can you do a video on how to get into training with e collar
Woohoo new video!!
And 1st! 😆
Yeah!!
Where did you get the bungee attachment?
I want to rescue/foster greyhounds and 3/4 mile would work well for me.
I would ask your vet first - before you put anything heavy on their necks.
Hey Tom just tried to use the discount code at Dogtra. Doesnt work.
Wheres the link for the bunge?
I need one for my 15 lb poodle mix and I’m looking for one that’s not huge or heavy on his skinny little neck. I did try an inexpensive one (they seem to be the only ones who have small-ish ones (though still not small enough, imho) but their stimulations are too strong even on the lowest setting. The vibration mode also freaked my dog out. So what can I use?
Hi Tom,
Thank you so much for your videos.
When do you use the pager
How do you feel about the ET-400?
Whats your opinion on SportDog brand?
Awesome stuff! Got a Dogtra IQ that my trainer suggested for my GSD. :D
Nice!!! 🙏🏻
What is color of your malinois the second dog
Hey just looked through your Amazon and the bungee isn't listed (or I'm blind lol) ... btw as far as No Bad Dog merch that bungee would be a really good idea. I see you using it A LOT. Other than that I wanted to ask if you've ever worked with an American Tundra Shepherd? I know you aren't a hybrid/wolfdog fan for pets/family members and it goes back and forth with people if these are hybrid/wolfdogs or not. Personally I find them to be a completely amazing breed.
Oh in case you need a lead on where to read about the breed: atsfoundation.com/
I want the arc so bad for my Service dog in training there so expensive though so the Mini iq work for bigger dogs because it says it’s for little dogs ? And I have a 65 lb 6 month old shepwililer I have used Amazon brands in my other dog and works great but she does have a high prey drive and that one does not phase her lol
