My pittie gets so excited when i put his e collar on! his tail starts wagging and he has such a big smile on his face. His e Collar to him means he gets to roam and be a dog, while being safe! Great video!

@Terrence Theo thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process atm. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
As much as I wish I had sent my dog to Brandon for training before bringing him home th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU I am so grateful for this down-to-earth, practical guide. His training techniques and tips really work. Thank you as well for dedicating your life's work to rescue dogs, and to rescuing those of us who want the very best for our 4-legged family members.
Thank you so much for giving me the courage to get an e-collar and start training. I'm using all your e-collar videos to train my pup and after a day with a few short training sessions I can see such a difference. This will be life changing for my dog and I.
Going to become a first time dog owner in a few months and I’ve been watching your videos in preparation and it’s the first time I feel confident that there’s real logic and science that goes into training that it’s not just about making sure you’re the “alpha” with the dog, or that you don’t have to be some superhuman dog whisperer to get your dog to listen. Can’t wait to put my to practice
Beautifully explained. I always have my dogs e collar on , just in case. She responds fine to just the bleep these days as I conditioned her by always using the bleep before the stim. She chased every thing , now she has no interest in anything but me and doing things off lead/leash together. Great video Tom. Thank you : )
Holy smokes I wish wish wish I'd stumbled on your channel a few months ago!! We just ordered an E-collar after months of mixed results with other training methods, and I was feeling nervous about having it out in public, partly because of potentially being judged, and partly because I didn't realise just how positive it's possible to make it. Your videos have flipped that completely to being so over the top suuuuuper dooper excited to get started, make my doggo an absolute superstar, and maybe even educate some folks. No doubt I'll be directing some curious dog owners to this channel!
I so excited, I am getting our e-collars from Dogtra tomorrow. I've been watching your tutorial videos back to back, I really hope it helps improve my Great Pyrenees recall, we can't let her off-leash because her recall off-leash is not always reliable (she gets distracted easy).
the sound helps so much!! I’ve been lacking e-collar training w my dog because I’ve been kinda confused and my trainer is kinda useless lol, thanks so much!
You are a life saver!! We rescued a 5 year old German Shepard/Belgian Malinois? Not sure which she is but she’s amazing. Your tips on training have made her such an easy dog to be around. She walks beautifully on the leash now and is finally a relaxed, happy dog. She was terrified when we first got her and within minutes after using your advice she changed. It was like someone flipped a switch. I’m so grateful to have found your channel!!
Watching your live Instagram video with herm sprenger, heads your pod cast and now, watching your video. The three combined is like a step one two and three kind of set! The tripple threat to having a happy well behaved dog!! Thank you Tom, for making these videos!! I know you’re helping so many people! You’ve helped me understand more as well! I’ve always had your thought process when it comes to dogs, (their animals and you have to BE different with them NOT ACT differently) it was not until I started watching your videos that it clicked, and finally understood what that actually meant! Learning from you once this pandemic is done, is an opportunity I hope I get!
Thank you so much for this video! There's so much info out there on this but with your step by step instruction really takes the pressure off. I now know exactly how to use it without wondering if I'm doing it right. I think this is huge for those owners that want it to work but arnt sure if it can or if they even should. Thank you!
My dog Mia within just a few days is responding so much better. No more dragging me down the street when she sees a dog. She just wants to visit, but not all dogs know what to do with a huge malamute/husky mix coming at them. Thank you Tom for helping me get better control of my dog. I haven't even had to use a prong collar or an e-collar. I might try an e-collar at the dog park first. I want her to feel free. And have used no treats.
I would love if ecollar controller came as a watch or something. As a disabled person it can be difficult to always remember to grab that controller. If I had it on me all the time I wouldn't have to worry about remembering.
I just looked on the dogtra website and they do have a “hands free” version that has a watch like strap! It said it was created for hunting and K9 professionals so the handlers/owners can “multitask” I’m not sure of the specifics, but I wanted to share in case that helps you at all! 😊
I just watched your channel few days ago n i'm so enchanted by it...i simply love your videos n what you did to all those beaUtifUl dogs....i got 2 domestic dogs n they are always barking to families n strangers who came over to my house....but they are both good loyal dogs...
Can you please do a video on separation anxiety? We paid a lot of money to a trainer and all we got was a garbage report that didn’t include anything to solve our concerns!
I’ve just stared my ecollar training this week! Honestly it’s thanks to your videos that I feel confident enough to try. Though I am working with a trainer ;3 thank you!
I just found your channel!! Your fantastic!! I have 3 rescue dogs now at my home who I am keeping forever now!!! They are the first dogs I've had in 6 years prior to that I had dogs my whole life raiseing 5 German Shepherds!!! My dogs now are 6 months Rotweiller miv. 14 month old Blue Nose pit bull mix. 2 year old Shepherd mix. Love watching you train the dogs so much!!!
So first off, I have been watching your videos for about a year now when I got my GS Jax. Jax was 8 weeks old when I got him and we started training right away. COVID prohibited me from doing any real socialization with other dogs. I did find a great local trainer named Rick who lives local ( I am from NY ). He has been a tremendous help to me and Jax. But I wanted more freedom for Jax and started watching your videos on collars. I purchased the DogTra 1900s Black. Jax has been wearing it for about a week, about 6 hours a day just to get him accustomed to it. We are going to start training this week and I look forward to it. So thank you for all the videos you put here on TH-cam.
OMG! That sound box was soooooo very helpful! I trained a dog a few years back on a similar type collar. I used it as recommended by the company that made the collar. I had great success with it! The dog finally realized that chasing horses wasn't worth the effort. However, from what I remember I wasn't holding the continuous button until he started to come. I think instructions stated to use if command wasn't obeyed. So this tells me I need to make sure to follow instructions given by company and/ or yourself! Thanks!!!
I've never seen a e-collar used like this, what a great idea! A totally different method of training a dog that I should have thought of since it's very similar to how I might work with a horse. So cool.
Thank you for taking the time to record and post these videos. Your channel has sparked a desire to learn more and more about dog training and dog psychology. Truly inspirational.
I just got a Dogtra Arc yesterday! Super excited to start using it! Thanks for the video and giggles because who doesn’t love watching a lab puppy run, legs are floppin’ all around. 😆
I appreciate your videos so much! They have definitely helped me to manage my husky at home! We just recently received the herm sprenger collar and leashes from your website, and the communication between me and my husky has definitely improved! Thank you for taking the time to make all your videos and blessing us with all your knowledge!! 🐺🐺🐺
Sometimes you just gotta go back and rewatch videos. And they're just as soon if not better than the first time I watched it. Ps bring these shirts and the don't touch my dog shirts back!!!
Thomas, I’ve been lurking for a while and have been very impressed. Your balanced approach to training and your use of technology to communicate with the dog really resonate with me. These methods are logical, humane and effective. I’ve just adopted a 5.5 mo old GSD female who was exclusively kept indoors, never saw a leash, with limited socialization outside of her family and the family pets. That said, she’s doing great on leash, in her crate and is just a joy to be around. She is a little skittish but is gradually gaining confidence and has great recovery. I’d love to discuss some of the challenges I’m facing with her. Is there a way to contact you or one of your trainers via email of over the phone? Thanks, John
Thoughts on e collar training for an English Bulldog? My last dog was e collar trained and I loved it as long as I remembered to put the collar on in the morning. I have heard it's not good for Bulldogs b/c they have such a short nose and breathing challenges. Can't use a neck collar have to use harness for that reason.
Me I had my Lurcher off lead all her life only 1 occasion did she go awol chasing a rabbit it was only 300 meters away in a field so no massive issue but it did cross my mind what if. Natural instinct and all that. Lol
I just taught my dog to wall off leash in 10 minutes, put a shock collar on him, but only used the volume sound to correct him. I did not buzz nor shock him. And he even remembered to heal each time, my chi-spaniel is truly a smart dog.
You up the amount of stimulation. For example, my boy has prey drive towards our chickens. With normal recall, the number of stimulation is at a 4 for him. When he gets super excited and goes after a chicken, I up the amount of stimulation quickly until he listens. I don't even look at the number while doing a correction (its over and done with fast), but it usually ends up from like 13-25.
Quick question. After weeks of ecollar training and your out on a hike do you continue to use the ecollar or they’ve learned to recall using verbal commands?
Only you can decide if your dog will ONE HUNDRED PERCENT follow your verbal command in a situation that could suddenly turn dangerous. With my dog, I never take the chance. Training with an ecollar is a great way to train the dog off lead, but it doesn't produce miracles in a matter of weeks.
do you leave the e collar on all the time then? or is it just to get them trained? are you always supposed to walk then with the remote controller for that? thanks!
I have more of a question than a comment...when you say off leash you mean he has no leash but he will have the e-collar on correct? So the dog won't have a physical leash but they will always have the e-collar on?
Great video as always! 🐺❤️ Do you have any tips for a dog, who’s afraid and anxious to the level where he’s peeing himself when the owner wants to do some training?
Thanks Tom, your training videos and methods have been invaluable to me and my 100+ pound foster pup Rocky. A friend just lent me an e-collar unit that's been sitting in his closet for a few years (SportDog brand). It has tone and vibration, and then 21 levels of electro-stim. You said that with the Dogtra e-collar, you are using level 4 or 5 (out of 127 levels) for basic training. I assume that means you are using stim pressure to start with rather than vibration. If that's the case, how and when would you use the vibration mode in training? On the SportDog e-collar, level 1 stim seems pretty high already (at least on my skin). I wonder if vibration might be a better place to start e-collar training with this particular equipment. Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, where are you getting your bungee and cord locks to use with the collar? It's a great idea (and the SportDog unit I have was originally used to train beagles so it was cut short and needs to be extended to fit my dog, anyway).
I see differing opinions on what age is appropriate to start. Some say 5 months, some say 6 and some say whenever the dog knows commands. I have a 15 week old Great Dane who knows come, sit, down, stay, place and shake. He comes 99% of the time just with one call in the house distracted by my other dogs even when he is barking at one of my other dogs because he wants to play or get what they have. Do you think he is too young? Should I wait or head off any problems before they start?
Do you have a like "starting from a brand new puppy" playlist of videos? Or would the "basic dog training" be the best list to go to? We'll be getting our new GSD puppy in October. I had a "okay" trained rottie for 10.5 years but want to be much better with our new puppy, but not sure what ages to be doing what trainings and things like that.
I'm a bit confused about the timing. Should the ecollar stimulation come a fraction before the command so it can *predict* the "come" command? That way the ecollar would simply mean "come" I guess. Or should it come right after the command for as long as the dog is not complying as a pressure/negative reinforcement. It looks like you're suggesting the latter
If this has been asked a million times already, I apologize, but have you had success with Huskies? We have recently adopted a 3 yr old sweet female Husky/German Shepherd mix. She darts out the door any chance she gets. I know Huskies are notorious for this and just want your thoughts on this. I have successfully e-collar trained my 3 yr old Aussie/Husky/Great Pyrenees to recall. Thanks.
Hey brother, thank you for the hard work and quality videos, this is very helpful, I’m currently training my 5 year old dog (half streeter half Belgium Sheppard), very smart, very sweet, al ready knows how to wait and go on a leash, but would like to take it to a better level where she can actually be happy and with no pressure, I’m committed to her training and have time (1-2 hora a day), which of your videos do you recommend? Again thank you for your good work and shared talents, Manuel.
My dog is half deaf and I use the mini educator for recall for him. I looked for training videos specifically about training deaf dogs with an ecollar. I think there's a trainer that has blind/deaf dogs videos too.
Hello I have a black lab mix boxer, maybe Pitt bull and chow he's 2 years old he's not neutered yet..do to some financial situations.. hopefully I will have it done soon.. will that calm him down a bit He's a good dog just hyper at times especially when we go for a walk and he sees another dog I can hardly hold him back he's very strong and I'm scared to walk him.
Is it possible to use the dogtra for correction and also for training?, if so, is there any video that show the difference of how to use it for those two objectives? Thanks
Would you recommend this for an adult (7 yr) Treeing Walker Hound, or would you suggest an e-collar with GPS included instead? Also, you refer to "pressure". What is pressure? Is it vibration only? I looked at the product and it does have the term "nick" then constant. Are you using the "pager" feature in this one only? Thanks! Nice video!
Amazing timing for this post. Just got an ARC for my German Shepard. We live in the country but we have a road near by and need good recall training. What age would you recommend starting with e-collar training?
I know you say they are supposed to be tight. But I am constantly trying to figure out how tight... I always feel like it's either too loose or too tight😂 I'm pretty new at e-collars and the training but have watched SO many of your videos and we've been working on it everyday! I have the dogtra 200c with the bungee collar. 😊
Okay so I have a white boxer male, big male,I also have his sister who is a brindle in color. I’ve had them from puppies and now they are 4 years old. Both of them are crazy wild dogs, my fault totally. They are a nightmare to take for walks, they both pull, hate other dogs, and some humans. I’ve been watching your videos for about a month now, I have your collar for the white boxer as he’s so strong, oh and I also have your t shirt, still no help haha. My white boxer is so big and strong, as much as I yank on the collar like you say, he still pulls so hard. I just was wanting to know how long does it normally take for a dog his size to realize I’m the boss. I’ve been doing this with him for 2 weeks now, he’s starting to realize when I yank the leash he knows, but as soon as he gets a scent of something or sees another dog, it seems like all my trainings gone out of the window. He’s such a beautiful dog, well to me anyway, but very very hard work, and yes before I started watching your videos, which I love I might add, I have let them both get away with everything, so totally my fault, any suggestions?
I have an e collar and it goes up to 12. It also has sound and vibrate as well as shock. Are you using the shock for the stimulation each time, sound or vibration?
Can you do a video for dogs that have had a previous bad experience with ecollars? Our rescued boy is wonderful and we've built such a strong bond with him, but his recall was non existent outside the house. Bought an ecollars and the minute I turned it on and it beeped he was gone hiding under the bed. I finally coaxed him out and got it on him, and I haven't bothered to do anything but to let it sit there, and he's very scared. non reactive, won't touch and treats, even his normally high reward ones, shaking and basically laid down in am almost cowering position. We've only ever used positive reinforcement with him, so obviously someone has used a collar inappropriately and traumatized him. With it off he's back to his normal self. How can I assure him I won't hurt him and move him into trusting me with the ecollar?
Literally doing this at the moment. Although it was a big playing field. Temptation won in the end and he decided to not respond to collar, treats or commands. Should i start smaller area and progress?
Tom, Hope you can answer my question. I love your videos and bought the Dogtra ARC for my 1.5 yo Munsterlander. I introduced the e collar to her today and was expecting a response to the stimulation around a lvl 4-5 as you've demonstrated. I took her in our backyard to sniff around and she didn't even notice the stimulation or stop to look up until I got to lvl 15. Is this normal or have you experienced this with other dogs? At lvl 15 she barely even notices it.
You probably have to have the collar tighter so that the prongs can penetrate through the fur consistently. I use a different collar and have it tight but not uncomfortable. My dog has a large pain tolerance and responds to lower stimulus well if the fit is correct.
Hi Tom thanks for your great videos, I have a stubborn 11 month old 10 stone Boerboel who uses his size against my wife and children, he isn't aggressive but can be boisterous, what e collar would you recommend for him, kind regards from the UK
My friends dog almost got hit by a car because he slips his collars and he ran into traffic she needs this kind of training. I recently showed her your channel and now she loves watching.
My pittie gets so excited when i put his e collar on! his tail starts wagging and he has such a big smile on his face. His e Collar to him means he gets to roam and be a dog, while being safe! Great video!
Madalyn East my GSD does the same.

What's the difference in a remote color for correction and for recalling?
You up the amount of stimulation. For example, my boy has prey drive towards our chickens. With normal recall, the number of stimulation is at a 4 for him. When he gets super excited and goes after a chicken, I up the amount of stimulation quickly until he listens. I don't even look at the number while doing a correction (its over and done with fast), but it usually ends up from like 13-25.
He links a video in the cards on the top right
Quick question.
Training with an ecollar is a great way to train the dog off lead, but it doesn't produce miracles in a matter of weeks.
do you leave the e collar on all the time then? or is it just to get them trained? are you always supposed to walk then with the remote controller for that? thanks!
I really found this video very helpful. Thank you for all your hard work.
I have more of a question than a comment...when you say off leash you mean he has no leash but he will have the e-collar on correct? So the dog won't have a physical leash but they will always have the e-collar on?
Took me a long time to get an ecollar but I'm glad I did
Great video as always! 🐺❤️
Do you have any tips for a dog, who’s afraid and anxious to the level where he’s peeing himself when the owner wants to do some training?
Any particular reason you chose to use the ARC instead of the 280c like you normally recommend?
Paychecks, thats why
Hi! You're work with dogs and videos are awesome and helpful. I can't find the e collar link. Where?
Great video!!! And a fantastic arm you have 😁☺️
I’m confused because you keep saying “pressure” but what does that mean? Is it electric shock? Just sound? Or something else? Thanks!
How would this work, if you was using an E collar to correct passive aggressive behaviour and use to recall?
If this has been asked a million times already, I apologize, but have you had success with Huskies? We have recently adopted a 3 yr old sweet female Husky/German Shepherd mix. She darts out the door any chance she gets. I know Huskies are notorious for this and just want your thoughts on this. I have successfully e-collar trained my 3 yr old Aussie/Husky/Great Pyrenees to recall. Thanks.
You are awesome! Thank you for all you teach us ! 🐕
Again thank you for your good work and shared talents,
Manuel.
First ☺️☺️ he is so adorable 😍 would you recommend a e collar to a deaf and almost blind dog 🐶
He is!
@@tomdavisofficial Please address Christine Eidts question. Thanks.
My dog is half deaf and I use the mini educator for recall for him. I looked for training videos specifically about training deaf dogs with an ecollar. I think there's a trainer that has blind/deaf dogs videos too.
In the UK 🇬🇧 these e collars are not available. Do you have any suggestions for recall without the e collars?
Another great video. You are saying dogtra right?
Found the link. That's again for another great video
I going to be getting a E collar for my German Shepherd. What would be the best E collar to get? Thanks
Can you explain why you don't keep the stimulation on until he gets to you?
Hello I have a black lab mix boxer, maybe Pitt bull and chow he's 2 years old he's not neutered yet..do to some financial situations.. hopefully I will have it done soon..
will that calm him down a bit
He's a good dog just hyper at times especially when we go for a walk and he sees another dog I can hardly hold him back he's very strong and I'm scared to walk him.
I hear 5-6 months is a good place to begin conditioning
I know you say they are supposed to be tight. But I am constantly trying to figure out how tight... I always feel like it's either too loose or too tight😂 I'm pretty new at e-collars and the training but have watched SO many of your videos and we've been working on it everyday! I have the dogtra 200c with the bungee collar. 😊
Unfortunately e-collars are illegal where I live. What options are there to train recall, in particular a lab without an e-collar?
Hey! Can you do a video on how to find the dogs working level on the ecollar!
He does have a a video on that.
do you keep pressure on if they look at you but haven't come?
is this the first time the dog felt the e collar stimulation? must wondering how I could introduce the e collar to my dog
Hey Tom! Great video as usual! Question: Is there a less expensive brand you would recommend?
Love the explanation 👌 thank ypu
What if your outside without the collar - will they come without the stimulation?
Best video! Thanks, it is going to be so useful..!
Literally doing this at the moment. Although it was a big playing field. Temptation won in the end and he decided to not respond to collar, treats or commands. Should i start smaller area and progress?
Start in your yard and after a few days of good response try the open field with a long line
He explained exactly how to do this in the video 💯 , pay attention! 🤷♀️
How young can you start using the collar? I was told by others that they need to have a strong recall before introducing the collar?
This is a brilliant video!! 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Hi Tom thanks for your great videos, I have a stubborn 11 month old 10 stone Boerboel who uses his size against my wife and children, he isn't aggressive but can be boisterous, what e collar would you recommend for him, kind regards from the UK
u guys can have boerboels but not pit bulls?
Yeh that's right buddy, pits come under dangerous dog act here with a few other breeds, which is such a shame as they are lovely dogs.
My friends dog almost got hit by a car because he slips his collars and he ran into traffic she needs this kind of training. I recently showed her your channel and now she loves watching.
Use a martingale collar. That way it will tighten up when you go to grab him
