my shiba has been fully off leash on ecollar for 4 months now and it's such a nice change for us. She was taught road boundaries with prongs and transitioned the correction to ecollar and now she waits for me before crossing the street (she has to be in heel position to step into the road) and she will even stop mid chase of a ball if it goes into the road. I think a video on the importance of training impulse control would be cool. My shiba no longer approach squirrels, dogs or cats on our walk whereas before she wouldnt be able to walk past without putting 110% of her attention on them
I would put remote collars on my well trained Great Dane at times. The improvement to his hearing and understanding was amazing. Truthfully, having a consequence to being blown off really made a world of difference and allowed him to live a happy and fun off leash life.
Watching her work with the dog in the background while you were talking to the camera was a fantastic thing to see. I bought some ecollars for my huskies because of your videos. I haven't started using them yet because I want to watch some more videos and learn the remote controls before starting.
Tom! I stumbled on your ecollar videos after adopting a Belgian malinois and it is a GAME CHANGER. We were starting to wonder if adopting her was a mistake but this collar and your methods have turned things around. Highly recommend to any dog owner
Same. Prong and e collars changed my relationship with my Mal! Despite what my roommate thinks he's actually MORE well-behaved on ecollar only, because he has to check in with me, and he has greater impulse control because I can't just hold him back, he has to hold himself back.
great segment. i have two GSDs that i use an e-collar on. they respond to it really well, most of the time. sometimes the connection doesn't really contact and it needs to be adjusted. i have a male that goes really bug crap crazy when i start to go outside or leave. its to the point that it will engage with my female or bark or run up and down the fence as i leave. its the only way i can get him to calm down. its funny, when i bring them out, they get all excited because they know they are going outside the fence with me to run and walk around the property with me. they're a great off leash tool. thanks for the video.
Love this collar!….allows my Malinois to be off leash on our walks in the woods….she will come to me when I call her no matter the distractions of any wildlife that happen to show up…from mice, birds, squirrels, bear, cougar & running deer…the e-collar is just such a great tool ( I actually don’t have to even use the stim now)..thanks for another great video!..👍
Great Video as always Tom. As a trainer I watch cause its like checking in with a colleague lol, and I've got my GSD customer in about 2 hours. Keep it up.
Tom where do I begin to say thank you for your videos. Are 2 yr old Sarp we rescued had some serious behavioral problems when we first got him in September. We tried the prong collar and it worked for generalized walking, but would not begin to touch his dog reactivity(which was based on dominance/high prey drive); so me and the wife treated all 3 of us to the Dogtra "No Bad Dog" E-collar for Christmas and when we starting using it in the spring my word the change is amazing. Your tutorial video with the collar was all we needed to teach ourselves which in turn allowed us to reach/teach him👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻.
I need this for my GSD but more as a correctional tool. It would be interesting to see if it’d work once he’s in that “oh another dog must go investigate” frenzy. Like she said in the beginning with hers…it’s like nothing else matters at that point.
Although the e-collar can be used as a purely aversive tool, that is not its main purpose and certainly not the most effective way to use the tool. Simply “correcting” a dog with a collar can lead to a lack of clarity and even make the issue worse. The collar should be used in conjunction with proper training practices so the dog knows what is required of him and why he’s receiving the correction. If properly applied, the E-Collar can be part of the solution to help teach your dog what you you expect of him/her. It’s a very effective way of communicating with your dog even at the highest states of arousal and distraction. I’d suggest checking out books by Larry Krohn, Haz Othman and Tom on e-collar work
Love your videos, I can never find where to purchase the classes. You always say at the bottom of the screen but there isn’t anything at the bottom of the screen.
Hi from Canada. Love your video's Tom! Can anyone tell me the reason behind the "My Dog Bites" hat? Is it so that people don't bother you when you're training?
Hi Tom, just got your ecollar. Is the discount code for the course still open? Love your videos man, thank you for helping me prepare my pup Leo for our camping trip later this summer!

Mr. Davis, what recommendation would you have for an individual who can't afford your brand of e-collar at this moment. I've watched and practiced with the slip collar, treats, etc., hasn't been easy with my blue heeler mix.
Bought the collar, been using the conditioning techniques with my 6 month old heller/aussie mix and it is working wonders.....question: when do I use the pager function?
@@tomdavisofficial so I paid $300 for a training device with a function that you don't use? Why not leave it off to decrease the cost? How long does the entire training process take to reach full off leash recall? I understand that it’ll be different for every dog but an approximation would be helpful!
Hey Tom, is there any way that i can use this discount on a the bundle with the e-collar, because L only have an inexpensive one, but dont have a ton of money at the moment.
I have seen videos quality protection dog trainers saying that they've had to add a second e collar because of the dogs High Drive would be interesting to know your thoughts on that... . Thank you for your time
it’s an actual tap tap tap (don’t go to fast because the entire point is to get your dog to move off of the feeling of being stimmed with a tap, no physical/leash pressure) until the dog moves in or until you have too add in a little leash pressure (this NEEDS to be phased out however or your dog will only come when it feels pressure on a leash)
Any recommendation on a good e collar? All I’ve tested so far either have a delay that makes training unrealistic, or don’t seem to have enough juice to offer a correction.
Yes, he is. But he's using it properly and only on the lowest possible setting. The collar is like an invisible hand that tells your dog you're there and to listen. The E collar he uses also has a vibration setting, just like your phone, that would be used for a correction.
Some have both, but it’s not raw static electric “shock,” per se, if you’ve ever tried a muscle stim device (massage therapists and chiropractors use them) it’s like that. It’s a variable amount of stimulation, not a painful shock. You can get to a point where the stim is painful, but it’s more of a muscle cramps pain than shock.
Seems like the dog was doing his job correctly. Are we just gonna ignore the fact that she had someone trespassing on her property? Dogs are smarter than we give them credit for.
Nah they have a lot of property and the dog went to friendly say hello and the guy stomped him out. So no we’re not ignoring it it’s in the beginning of the video.
Why would someone kick a friendly dog even if he wasn’t trespassing? I know that’s not the point of the video but it’s hard for me to get my head around that

Any age can learn. The e-collar is "pressure" just like a leash, if you use it correctly. Watch Tom closely when he trains recall (or any command): apply pressure, verbal command to compliance, release pressure upon compliance, reward (verbal/treat/toy).
Wonder if this works with a smaller senior dog, 12 lb maltese terrier? Having trouble with recall for my adopted rescue due to sight and hearing impairment.
yep. Small dogs are the same as big dogs. It's not like humans where little tiny humans are babies, and they can't understand what the big dogs are doing.

Mine is fluffy and it's always a challenge to yet it placed correctly. I had to do some trial and error to see where he responds then every time I start close and work my way up. If he doesn't respond at the same level I know it's not connecting right and keep moving his hair and trying again. It's a pain but worth it.
The one thing I have never felt a need for in my over 9 years of dog walking was an e-collar. I maybe had 5 dogs in all that time that took off on me and I don't believe that an e-collar would have helped any of them because of the reasons they took off. the dogtra or the Ecollar on amazon
