The etymology of the word fetish comes from a whole bunch of words that harkens back to Latin but the literal definition of it is "magical man-made item". Another way to say fetish would be charmed or enchanted item.
Buying unfinished games is always a scary choice. That being said, I purchased on Steam at the release. Im 25 hours in and so far got my 45 canadian pesos worth. I hope the added revenue stream boosts the development. For a indie studio the game looks and plays great on my potato hardware. Which says alot for a well made game.
I bought hunt showdown when it was still very early. They didn't have controller compatability and I have carpal tunnel so KBM is difficult. Gave up on it. I still check it out every once in a while, but I get destroyed because I'm not used to the game at all.
@@darrengoosen453 (without being a 100% sure) i'd say the game is very well optimised !! I have a 1060 and 8g ram and i run the gun on medium graphics! Btw i personaly think even in low the game is stil gorgeous !
The way the different mechanics of this game interact together, especially as you progress your gnosis (makes me think of insight in Bloodborne) to add more risk/reward to maps is awesome. 12 hours in and I feel like I've only scratched the surface. Nice video, pointers, and recommendation!
Awesome review! Considering how little marketing the devs did for Witchfire, word of mouth really helped them. I bought the game as soon as it released on steam, and it's worth the money even in early access.
I’ve been having a lot of fun with Witchfire. I feel like the difficulty spike from Gnosis I to Gnosis II is almost too much. It may just be a skill issue but I get wrecked so much more often ever since I hit G-II. I’d still very much recommend it!
I've been waiting for that game for a couple of years. And since I already use the Epic store, and I don't have a problem with it (let's face it, it's not even close to Steam) I bought the game at a nice discount (it cost me about 20 euros) about a year ago. The game is excellent in every way.
Thank u for this review I was pretty hyped when the game first got announced but then I decided to wait after seeing early reviews. It's been awhile so I figured I'd check back in. It looks and sounds like the game has made some massive improvements.
I usually wouldn't suggest something like this buttttt... If you want coop let the devs know that your willing to pay for it in dlc that's only $5-10 that maybe also has some cosmetics. Simply to help fund the servers and all that goes into online/p2p connections. I truly believe that was the deciding factor when they first got the game going seeing how connectivity and cost are the biggest issues with coop. I think the game just needs a 2 person coop option and it would be hella better. Could simply be a bare bones invite only type without the whole multiplayer match making would be a great start IMO. I know figuring out the progression can be tricky but can be done.
Ok, I'm a lot more interesed in this game now. I like the feeling of "just one more raid" like The Forever Winter gives me, so that a selling point. It looks great and sounds like a fun loop in it's current state. Def Whishlisted and may just pick it up soon.
In nowhere near the early access end game content, i agree with most of what u said. Soundtrack needs alot more love. After a few runs i find myself putting on some tunes which isn't good for the gameplay and immersion.
@Geekseh, oh I found an easier way for you to kill the Scarlett Coast boss...if you can buy the item from the Collector that gives you instant focus. Once you drop into the arena you pop the item, then do a quick dash and 3 orbs will float around him, shoot the 3 orbs and he'll be stunned and take much more damage...rinse and repeat till he's dead
Agreed, this is a awesome game... and I didn't even play any of the games you mentioned at the start! BTW, something I don't see mentioned often, those white raven feathers you find to unlock the third arcana, these can be used at any time from the Arcana tab as well to purchase additional perks... think it costs three feathers per extra item, if I recall.
No, loot doesn't work like that. It's like an extraction shooter only in the sense that what little you collect on an expedition can only be utilized once you return to the hub/base. You essentially earn gold and witchfire (which is essentially like dark souls' souls.) You can use gold to research various things like weapons, magic spells (AoE, heals, shields etc) and relics(stat boosts, buffs, special effects) which will take time to complete. There are close, medium and far ranged weapon categories and you can have two researches at a time being researched. They complete as time advances while on expeditions. Gnosis is harder to explain as it has various requirements to unlock each stage. It's more of a slower paced rouge-lite than a looter shooter though. Hope that helps a little. There's more to it, but that's a pretty good summary.
They did a crazy amount of work on this since it's EGS release. I played it off the high seas til it came to Steam since I refuse to support such a trash store. It was an easy purchase once it finally did get to Steam and I'm glad that they had that time to develop things to the point they are now. It was a bit too rough in the early days on Epic in my opinion. The time definitely made a huge difference. If the strategy was for the devs to use the influx in cash from Epic to develop the game further while using the timed exclusivity to essentially alpha test for the Steam EA release, then I can get behind that. Effective tactic. I'm looking forward to what they do with the story as it seems intriguing thus far, but we have so little to really go on. The mechanics are rock solid now and the Gnosis system is great compared to ramping up difficulty from leveling up alone. The maps are a bit small, but the layers of secrets to uncover on each is quite nice and the change in enemies as you advance keeps it fairly fresh. It could definitely be improved upon though, particularly with larger levels and increased variety. The core gameplay, especially the gunplay, is fun as hell though, so they have a great base to build onto. Fingers crossed that they actually do that.
My only issue with the game is that the weapons sound like plastic toys when reloading lol The shooting is amazing, the gameplay is awesome, the fights are fun/stressful in a good way. But once you reload... Plastic BB guns lol ^^
See I have an issue with the soundtrack. It's just meh. I haven't noticed the reloads yet but thanks for ruining it cause that's all I'll notice now ahhaa
Wish this was tps so bad! Idk why I use to only play fps and I couldn't play tps now it's the other way around! Life is funny like that! Useless information but it's out there now you know my secret lol! Tell me a little secret about yourself you never told anybody before!
There's so much great gameplay to be had in this game. It's really huge in that way. In some ways it reminds me of Void Bastards which I loved! But this is much harder but it's also full of so many things to enhance and secrets to explore. It would especially be cool if a multiplayer element could be added like you and another player compete on a map to collect arcana and face off every now and then.
That's fair, but the thing with this game is that it's SUPER polished for what's currently available. So you're technically getting the game's price worth of fun and (replayable) content + basically "free" future content. The devs DID say they won't be increasing the price on official release though.
So I lurk the discord and the devs say they don’t plan on having coop as to not affect the balance/atmosphere the game is going for. I’m not entirely sure what they mean, but just throwing that out there. They said they might consider it down the line
@@seb1520they wont, its insanely hard to add coop after you already made your game singleplayer. Sure its not fully finished but coop is a feature you would need to plan from the beginning.
Way too expensive for what it is. I don't think spending $40 on 20-30 hour games that are mostly repetitive grinding is worth it. If it was a 20-30 hour story experience or something with more variety than what is available then it might be worth it. But as is, you just spend 20-30 hours grinding reskinned enemies over and over on the same maps. Hopefully it gets fully fleshed out and might be worth the cost then.
Im not gonna lie i spent 2 mins in the tutorial lost before i opened the map and left lmao. They need to make it lead into the potion room cause then it would be easier to reach the dummy too
I enjoy the game a lot, but no, it doesn't deserve to be hyped this much. It's only getting it because it's pretty. Hype brings in people who bring things down because they don't really get the position the devs are in, or what sort of game they set out to make.
If you don't mind me asking when did you get it. I got it when it was initial released and it's day and night. So much progress on the development front.
