I tend to agree with your summation. Also consider that the R9 performance of the Jumper T18 is limited 300mW whereas the external module can go to 500mW - sort of important if you are going long range. That said, I will wait for a V2 of the Radiomaster because my Jumper T16 hasn't missed a beat (yet) and hopefully Radiomaster will come-up with a better looking face-plate because the TX16S looks like a 4 year olds toy !
Great info as always Lee. Again I’m late to the party as I ordered my radio master yesterday and spotted your video this morning lol 😂 good choice sir !👊🏻
Don't think you mentioned it but the Radiomaster also has internal charging, it's a small feature but really nice. Overall the Radiomaster is just a nicer package. Once the touchcreen is fully implemented, I'd love to see a smaller radio with a large screen, something in-between the T12 and TX16s.
Interesting take on the power output of the multi-modules. I built one of the original 4in1 modules, around the Atmel processor, a few years back. I’ve since measured the power output on most protocols and it averages 140mW to 160mW. I’ve recently (last few days) acquired a JP-4in1 module for its STM processor and extra memory and have yet to measure the output. I agree with your “park flyer” comment but that’s when using Spektrum... because, you know, Spektrum. If stock ever reaches the UK I think the Radiomaster will be the one for me. Like you I’m not interested in the R9 system as I’m still heavily invested in the EzUHF system. Nidge.
I compared range on dsm2 with authentic spektrum receiver. Comparing Dx9 vs Irangex lite on on x9 lite I got 120 feet more distance on external module. I fly helicopters so the range exceeds LOS .
To be truthfully. I'm not a fan of either radio so, I'm sticking with my FrSky Taranis X9D Plus SE. The only things if I could change would be a color screen and a roller switch. Thanks for your input excellent as always.
I had to return my TX16 because the left gimbal would not center. Tried calibrating every way possible. Not great quality control! Ordered the T18 now so fingers crossed.
I'm new to all the open source radios, I'm a bit old school still but been flying FPV for a while with my DMS2 radios, I bought a Radiolink a year ago because i cant get my old radios to work with my goggles but cant get the headtracking cable to work anymore and they have stopped making the cable I need. Does the Radiomaster support headtrackng??
I am currently using the T16. I have 2 external modules (R9 and CrsF lite). Dependent on which quad I fly, I need to change the module everytime. Seeing that the Jumper T18 has R9 in the internal module it would be perfect for me, because then I don't have to swap external modules everytime. Just keep the CrsF module in and I can fly all my quads (R9, Crsf, and frsky from the internal module). After watching this video I am doubting what to do.
Well, the T18 internal 900mHz is only 300 mW instead 1W on R9 module so its more like R9 Lite. Also some say the protocol isn't genuine Frsky protocol but more like a reverse engineered protocol. And why would you swapping 900 mHz modules? Usually people will choose either R9 or Crossfire but not both :p
I am happy to have chosen the Radiomaster. In the Jumper T18 I don't like that for the 2.4ghz it is limited to the internal antenna with a lower range. But above all and much more serious are the problems of incompatibility with r9. Jumper could have produced something better, Frsky with some updates is making the r9 receivers unusable with this multiprotocol module. Instead the radiomaster tx16s is compatible with all frsky receivers, even those that frsky is making incompatible with its own old models. With the external module the differences are smoothed out, but then why pay more for the Jumper T18 to have a radio whose value is the internal multiprotocol module if it then has these limitations? At this moment I would not even choose Frsky radio controls, its very questionable commercial policy is to make its own old receivers incompatible on its new products. I find this a discourtesy towards those who have spent a lot of money on Frsky products.
Hi, I've been out of the loop for a long time and have no idea what R9 or CRSS is! I fly fixed wing only and I have two radios, one is the Graupner MZ 24 with an excellent colour touch screen and good telemetry and ergonomics. The other radio is a very cheap radioLink AT10, also with colour screen. The sliders are rubbish but the gimbals and switches are pretty good. Quoted range for both radios is 4km although I only fly line of sight. I like the idea of multi protocol, especially as it's possible to use my Graupner receivers and also use Spektrum because there are many tempting models from Horizon Hobby which are ready to fly out of the box but it would seem that multi protocol just doesn't have the range I want? I have 3ms rock solid performance from both of these radios at maximum line of sight, and for my eight foot power glider that's a fair distance away when only just visible, so would you please explain crossfire and why it seems to be an advantage? I think that sometimes, advancements in technology can also be a step backwards, after all, they want you to keep buying the latest gear!
Just to be clear here, the Jumper T18 supports r9, but not the 2019 version. Which means the jumper is incompatible with any of the r9 receivers that say "OTA" or "ACCESS" because they run access instead of ACCST. Right?
the internal ant on the t18 is a standard ufl connector.... meaning you can un-plug it then replace with a ufl-sma connector.... meaning you can run say a 5W booster for the 2.4g signal! :-P You are welcome!
Painless, I have a technical question: You mentioned that you would not use a multi module radio for anything other than park flyer because of the limited power output. However the Jumper module puts out 22dbm which is equal to 158mW verses 100mW output power of the most expensive Futaba radios. Is there something about this that I don’t understand.
Thanks Painless, I found the excellent video. I guess I’m lucky that all my 26 fixed wing models use FlySky receivers and in that mode the module puts out approximately 100mW, same a $3,000 Futaba radio. I do realize that the module itself my introduce additional losses but I don’t feel the module is limiting my range significantly if at all. I do ground test all new models and constantly monitor the RSSI. If I were flying FreSky or Futaba receivers I might feel differently. Thanks for your replies and all your excellent videos.

I cancelled my T18 Pro when the reviews came out. I fly a ton of 2.4 so will get the Radiomaster plus a Crossfire module (for just 2 quads). I fly planes, gliders, quads ... everything ... and am now concerned whether the MPM will have enough oomph. Perhaps I should be retaining the DX9 for flying a small handful of expensive balsa aircraft ... What about diversity - 2 TX aerials to improve the reliability of the connection - guess that has to be out of the window as well ...
This statement also got me wondering now if I can use my multi protocall module with a futaba reciever in one of my nicer balsa planes, maybe someone can tell us whats the way to go if you want one radio to rule them all, aka park flyer and 1/4 scale plane flying.
Jumper keeps messing up radios. The T16 was kinda a miss - charging, battery bay, ribbon cables. The T18 is also kinda a miss - still no charging solution the battery bay is too small, the gimbals are meh, the 5in1 module isn't quite sorted out, no touchscreen... the list goes on.

Both are very similar. It used to be that hall effect gimbals were shorthand for the best quality. I'd be happy with either... No real choice either way for me.
I’ve not set up my T18 pro bc I’m letting these reviews get to me. But I should just go with my gut and stick with it. Especially if the hype for jumper is going away. I rocked FRsky for this long with all their drama. I think I’m going to give Jumper the upper hand and let them develop this radio and I’ll tag along for the ride. I’m mostly CRSF anyway. F it
Bro. did you have the T18 pro? How’s the Alps RDC90 Gimbals?
So can these both work with horizon bnf airplanes ?? Which one should I get I can't decide on one lol
Yes they can. Answer to your other question is in the video.. Happy flying
@@Painless360 thank you just don't know what version to get of the radiomaster tx16s would I need the one with the 4 in 1 module one . I have seen alot of different prices on that radio so it's a little confusing
See my later videos on this radio where I cover that.. Best of luck!
So what's the output of 900mhz of the internal R9. If it's only whimsical then there is not point
PlaneCrazy , 300mw, enough for some, unless you want to go real long distance.
Better than my tanaris X9D Plus Se 2019?
If you want to fly other things apart from FrSky and want full speed Crossfire - yes.
Painless360 i fly crossfire with CRSF shot firmware in my Taranis this is better of this?
@@mcferran6720 yes dude, your radio is overpriced and lacking numerous features of the Radiomaster. Is that what you needed to hear? It's not hard for a product to be "better" when it's 40 dollars cheaper than the Taranis with way more features and a beautiful screen.
so its not 100mw? thats a deal breaker, also i thought the tx16s and the non r9 jumper had two antenna one inside and one outside
It depends on the protocol (FrSky and Futaba are 80mW). See the video on it in the playlist...
Very good.
Izquierdron🤟😛😱🤣
My T18 Pro came with a terrible hiss that is louder than the wav audio.
The volume by default is turned all the way up. Reducing it helps with that hiss...Happy flying
@@Painless360 I wish that were the case for me.
Hi there!! Anyone knows or tried to bind a futaba FASST receiver to the radiomaster?? Thanks!!!
FASST is not supported by multi modules. Futaba FHSS is supported.
@@zmanphx Yeah thanks man! Just found the list after that! Bought a X8R for my heli 😁
@@workshopbeastsfpv413 , Nice thing about multi modules, I can keep my DSMX, Futaba SFHSS receivers for use in my helis. I actually got slightly better range on DSMX protocol on multi module vs Spektrum DX9 when I ranged tested.
I cancelled my T18 Pro when the reviews came out. I fly a ton of 2.4 so will get the Radiomaster plus a Crossfire module (for just 2 quads). I only have one concern: 1:28 - I'm looking for a radio to replace my DX9 and X9 Lite so I only need charge and take one radio to the field.
At 1:09: “I’d not use the multiprotocol module for anything but park flying”. - Doesn’t this damn both TX’s to the bin?
Nope, a complete new radio takes time to gain my trust... I has it now after a few months of use.
@@Painless360 Thanks for the clarification...
the DJI one
Jumper keeps messing up radios. The T16 was kinda a miss - charging, battery bay, ribbon cables. The T18 is also kinda a miss - still no charging solution the battery bay is too small, the gimbals are meh, the 5in1 module isn't quite sorted out, no touchscreen... the list goes on.
Neither for me, both flawed :(
Wouldn't it be great if FrSky just came out with a radio with the features that pilots want? Then there would be very little space for these radios..
@@Painless360 history would repeat itself, x9d Taranis was a bar set at a great height!
If only....... Sigh.
@@Painless360 exactly! I asked FrSky several times during two years for a taranis like model with color screen, premium parts (for say 100 euro more) and full speed crossfire support....still not sure why they don't produce something like that and let this gap in the market open for jumper/radiomaster to jump in. Still love my 7 years old taranis (first model) though!
The answer is simple no one of these just buy T16 Pro Hall V2
Rule of thumb applies to cars and electronic s. Never buy first generation or first release.
