Might be easier to use a strap for pinchers, take that weight off your arms and make it more comfortable. I’d like one by I’m used to mode one, tried using a mode 2 radio for a while and just couldn’t get the feel for it, so I changed it to mode 1, it was a spektrum DX6e by the way.
Thanks for your video and Answers. I'm trying out telemetry right now. Up to now I have not been able to have the audio announce the volt value two places after the decimal point. E.g. the lowest cell value is 3.54 volts, the announcement is 3.5 volts. Or is that not possible at all?
I don't think they will, but can you check and see if 26650 sized cells will fit in the battery compartment please? Or measure the depth of the battery compartment? Needs to be 26mm. Radiomaster website says it's only 25mm though.

Thank you. One question I have is can this bind and properly operate planes with Spektrum dsm2 and dsmx? I'm looking to replace my Spektrum radio but have several planes with Spektrum rx, etc
Just bought a timber turbo evolution and am having a hard time getting the safe on/off attached to a switch. I thought safe was on channel 5 on Spektrum. The book call for anything up to channel 9 so maybe I need to try to set it up on 1 of those channels instead of channel 5. Any thoughts? Thanks, Al
Speaking of trainer mode: now that you have a multi protocol module, could you do a run-down on the wireless trainer using the multi module as the source? Have seen it’s possible, but have not seen anyone actually do it.
What kind of cable (3,5 mm jack stereo or mono) were you using to connect the radio's together in the master/slave test that you did? Just asking because some people noted it did not always work on a Jumper T16 as master, while connected to a X9D+ as slave. It seems also related to the cable used and the version of OpenTX, but not always.

There is usually another connection wire from the ESC in addition to the normal one you'd find. Plug that into a spare channel on the reciever and set that channel up with a switch... Best of luck
Some radio systems have redundant antennas, some redundant receivers, some transmitters have two antennas. What can we do to a RadioMaster transmitter to add a second antenna? How about some video coverage on adding redundant receivers to the RadioMaster system? Thank you, Bill Gargan
Can you please test if the silicone bits on the back of the radio (the ones that now have a ridge that helps holding the radio when pinching) fit the jumper t16? and thank you for the great review!
im sorry if i miss it, if it was mentioned, about the crossfire, it promises a good latency and really good, however, i am wondering if i can use if not for drone but for a plane with 5 channels only (trottle, 2 v tail, and 2 aileron).
Check out the Crossfire series on the channel - I cover all of that and more. You can use Crossfire on a model in the same way as any other radio system (and a few other cool ways too!)
For a model I usually want it to warn me around 3.7 -3.8 volts per cell so I can land and have the pack still well above the 3.5v per cell minimum.. Happy flying!

One thing I didn't like with my T16 was the roller, it seemed to have some... sloppiness, when switching directions, is the best way to put it. Great T16S videos! Thanks very much for the info! I have questions about this radios compatibility with a Wireless Training Mode called MASTER/SBUS I'm into this Wireless Training using the OTx Trainer Mode: MASTER/SBUS which passes the trainee's stick data thru the radio board to the model in flight. But: What I can't get Banggood or Radiomaster Tech support to answer are these question: if I insert a DIY 4:1MPM into the JR slot will it Bind with the Trainee's radio wireless link and work in this MASTER/SBUS mode in the normal FrSky D16 protocol or any other? Also, If ia T16S can support SBUS via D16 on the trainer link, can I use the T16S's "Internal MPM that comes standard in this radio with an ASSAN or a DSM2 mode Rx bound to the model's INTERNAL MPM radio link at the same time? Will this SBUS mode also work with the XM+ FrSky Receiver that's in a Linker II module? I have had the radio on Order since 23 March but it's delayed and not due to ship till 29May. This is important to me since currently I can't use wireless training with anything BUT models with FrSky Receivers in them and I have lots of other receiver types in park flyer models i do not needed to use telemetry with, but I'd still like to let my grandson's train on them too.
Thanks for the video Lee, - and all the others. Priceless! I have a couple of questions. 1) Can the telemetry function of the TX16s be used with QGroundControl installed on a PixHawk-4 Flight Controller? 2) Can parameters such as PID values be changed in flight, using the TX16s telemetry? I so, would this be via MavLink? Thanks - keep up the good work :-)
1) I've not tried to forward telemetry to an external device here so not sure. 2) it depends on the system. Some radio links are bi directional and allow for things to be set. It usually needs a LUA script on the radio to do it.. Best wishes for the project
Another tricky and challanging question, is it possible to use both the internal transmitter and the module bay transmitter?, so that you would kinda have a backup if something would fail?
Depends on what value it needs on what channel from the radio for the SAFE system. I've not used it here but the supplier should be able to help you. Best of luck with it..
I am new to OpenTX and the Radiomaster, in fact the Radiomaster should arrive today. I have 4 new unused FrSky V8FR receivers, NOT the mk ii verions. If not, would it bind if the rf fine tuning is used? many thanks for the best videos on these topics.
Hi, what about the support for the new FrSky ACCESS protocol? To my knowledge, neither the Jumper T16, T18 nor the Radiomaster TX16S support this new protocol ?! So if you choose a Jumper T16, T18 or Radiomaster TX16S, this means in the same breath, a future without FrSky, since FrSky will only release receivers with the new ACCESS protocol in the future and not with the ACCST protocol. Do I understand this correctly? From this point of view, I would very much like to know your opinion. FrSky X9D Plus SE 2019 or would you prefer Jumper T16, T18 or Radiomaster TX16S?
@@Painless360 Thanks for the fast respond. Don't get me wrong, I'm not an advocate of FrSky or any other manufacturer. I'm a model sport returner and I'm currently in the process of building a new setup. I'm just unsure which manufacturer to rely on. For this reason my request for advice. I have no desire to invest approx. 270 euros in a FrSky X9D Plus SE 2019 transmitter in order to be on the wrong way. As I understand you now, the Radiomaster TX16S would definitely be a good choice and any future ACCESS support is very likely. However, the Jumper T18 will soon be on the market and the specifications don't sound bad - if not very good. Does the 5-in-1 module make any sense in Germany - can I even use it? Say - should I better wait for the Jumper T18? My planned model setup would have been a 2 meter glider with a FrSky X9D Plus SE 2019 and the FrSky Archer GR8, which has already integrated the Vario. In addition, I would have connected a liposensor. If I should now choose the Radiomaster TX16S or optionally the Jumper T18, which receiver and which telemetry components could I use instead? The Archer GR8 would then no longer be an option due to the ACCESS protocol? I sincerely hope that you can give me a supportive answer and thank you in advance for your efforts. Best regards
That answer is a much longer one and potentially subject to a lot of personal bias by all who answer it. FrSky started out creating the products we all wanted - a cheap, powerful radio that we could rely on for a lot less than vendors like Futaba, Spektrum, Aurora and others. Sadly as they have grown that spirit of innovation and risk taking has gone and they now appear more focussed on changes to limit the ability of 3rd parties to work with their kit. Other vendors like Jumper, Radiomaster and others are now driving the innovation and set becoming what FrSky was 5 years ago. If you're starting out then both are good choices, for pilots like me with lots of investment in FrSky kit that seem hell bent on no longer supporting vendors like RadioMaster feel more like they embody the spirit of the hobby I love.. Hope that helps.
@@Painless360 I like your passion for the hobby! I understand your opinion / position and can understand it very well. Companies like these should "support" each other, spur each other on to achieve their best, or at least, in terms of innovation, not slow each other down due to their own current lack of innovation. The original basic idea, the spirit, should finally stay alive! Because everything else brings nothing to the end of the day! But I also think that FrSky should have learned this lesson and hopefully will now appreciate how much their customers have supported and believed in them over the years. Also, they shouldn't forget that customers are always the backbone of every company! FrSky has brought many great innovations to the market in the past and has supported us with this, in our beloved hobby, and given us many hours of joy. Therefore, I also believe that we, as customers, should not completely ignore this in the current situation. I don't want to pretend that Frsky has really messed up and that their current "business practices" are definitely very questionable. But everyone makes mistakes, and FrSky also has potential, we all know from the past. So let's work together again on "SPIRIT" and the products we all want. At this point I would like to thank you again for your support. I will think again now and then hopefully make a wise decision. All the best!
Hello. I like to watch your videos because they are very informative and someone who is not native English is slow and clear enough to understand them. I have a question about Radiomaster. How can I lock the throttle channel with a switch so that it is only released when a switch (e.g. SF) has been activated. The copter has no Betaflight and is linked via a multi-protocol module and has no arm / disarm function.
Probably a daft question but can't find any info and don't wnat to make a mistake if I order one. On the mid range version (TX16s) can I plug in an existing TBS micro TX and use it or is it only the top of the range version that supports the TBS Micro Tx?
@Painless360 - Thank you for this great video. However i still have a few questions. I am a Spektrum user and find this radio interesting. 1) Is the 2,4 Ghz DSMX range the same compared to a DX9 transmitter (the one i have now)? 2) Is Spektrum telemetry supported and able to be shown on the TX16S display? I cant find anything on the net about this. 3) I have heard that some would not use this TX for big expensive planes/helis - why not? I it not as good and other brands when it comes to range and stuff like that? It seems to that TX16S is at least as good as my Spektrum DX9 when it comes to build quality and materials. My DX9 is plastic all the way and has an extra antenna (diversity) in the handle - the TX16S has not. I hope you or someone else can comment on this - and especially signal quality and range is important to me if i should switch to a Radiomaster TX16S. THANKS !
1) Check out the video in the playlists the DSM power is 100mW. Depends on what power your existing radio is.. 2) Last time I tried it, it worked. See the Wiki for latest details... 3) The radio is still very new so for many pilots they need some time to develop the level of trust in the radio and technology to trust it to an expensive model. It'll be worth a watch of my videos in the playlist for this radio, best of luck!

Sorry about that, you've missed a lot in the last 8 years. The hobby has benefited from a lot of interest in the 'multirotor' and 'fpv' areas and we are all reaping the benefits. The kit is better, cheaper and more reliable than ever. Once I have that confidence then I would happily move up, especially if I was using the bay for something like Crossfire..

I am super excited for this radio!! Pre-ordered mine last week. I hope they start shipping soon 😬😊
Have you encountered low signal alarm while taxiing on ground about 60 yards away or so? I am using DSM receiver.
I don't use DSM anymore but I do get low RSSI if the antenna isn't aligned well or too close... Happy flying
Thanks for your video and Answers.
I'm trying out telemetry right now. Up to now I have not been able to have the audio announce the volt value two places after the decimal point. E.g. the lowest cell value is 3.54 volts, the announcement is 3.5 volts. Or is that not possible at all?
What battery range would you recommend setting when using a 2s lipo 3000mah battery?
I don't think they will, but can you check and see if 26650 sized cells will fit in the battery compartment please? Or measure the depth of the battery compartment? Needs to be 26mm. Radiomaster website says it's only 25mm though.
I like to tell you that your videos are quite informative and interesting. I would like to know what would you use (kind of switch) to choose from the 8 FM available in Open TX (Radiomaster TX16S). Six is easy and quite visible, but eight...
I've never needed to do that here. Why do you need 8 fight modes? I'm interested...
@@Painless360 Just for the sake of it. I added momentary switches T5 and T6 to the 6P in the upper part of the transmitter and they are working together now, for 8 flight modes. Regards
I’m glad it balances on your neck strap
I however need to move models over from my xd9+ to the tx16s because my screen is damaged on my old radio and it won’t accept them no matter what I do
Haw do I do this, or do I just need to go line by line and do it by triple and error
See my OpenTX setup video for this radio and the cloning feature video - both in the playlist... Best of luck!
Hey...Just a quick question..I got the Radiomaster Tx16s and I'm wondering if it will bind with my old Turnigy receiver's? I tried flysky but no joy. .
There are a few Flysky options... hobbyking did lots of recievers that were compatible with different protocols.... Best of luck
@@Painless360 Yeah...I eventually got it..Flysky was the one...Thanks for the great videos...Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the informative video! I was wondering - can we use this radio to flash new firmware to receivers in the same way we can with a Taranis? Thanks!
What about a video on the Bluetooth board update for the radio
Nice video. The Radiomaster TX 16S works with Hitec receivers, is it compatible with the Hitec HTS-SS Blue Telemetry system?
The capabilities of the Multiprotocol module are changing all the time so check the the project wiki for the latest... www.multi-module.org/basics/supported-protocols
Thank you. One question I have is can this bind and properly operate planes with Spektrum dsm2 and dsmx? I'm looking to replace my Spektrum radio but have several planes with Spektrum rx, etc
See my videos that cover this. The supported protocols are listed in the wiki. They do include Spektrum.. best of luck
@@Painless360 Thank you friend. I'll try to find your video that covers this. I enjoy your vids immensely - John
Thanks, Al
No idea. If you figure it out, please post the answer. I'd try it on every channel, one by one..
@@Painless360 worked on channel 7!
Speaking of trainer mode: now that you have a multi protocol module, could you do a run-down on the wireless trainer using the multi module as the source? Have seen it’s possible, but have not seen anyone actually do it.
I am planning to show this, stay tuned!
Dose it support access protocol for frsky along with all the new frsky receivers
See link in description for where to find that.. Best of luck!
I asked about screen. Some say touch screens are not as legible as regular screen. Is that not true? How does it compare to T16 screen? Thanks.
Not as clear as a non touch thanks to that grid but I'm not noticing it in use now..
What telemetry recievers will you be using with the tX16? Can we use the new frsky access receivers and flash back to ACCST?
If the Rx will support v1.x or v2.1 of ACCST then yes.. I'm using lots of X series here and also like the Jumper RX too..
All covered in the linked trainer video.
How many resiver / models /divicees can be connected with the transmitter?
I mostly plan to use xm + receivers. Considering this situation, would you recommend frsky X9d + 2019 or radiomaster t16?
Either are great choices. Depends if you want to stick with just Frsky... Happy flying
Hi Lee, can I use Futaba Fasst receiver with this radio? I have Frsky - Fasst receiver that unable to bind with this radio.
Check out the FAQ video in the series where I show how to check.. Best of luck
yes good video and I have purchased the radio master but can't get it to bind to my fr sky x6r does the receiver need to be updated to the radiomaster protocol
No. Make sure you are using the correct protocol. See my Mulriprorocol tips video...
Just bought the Twin Timber and can't get the reverse thrust set up. I got the reverse set up on my Turbo Timber but can't remember how I did it. Can you help? Thanks, Al
There is usually another connection wire from the ESC in addition to the normal one you'd find. Plug that into a spare channel on the reciever and set that channel up with a switch... Best of luck
@Painless360 Do you think the 5 in 1 internal module could be used in a Jumper T16 to get the R9 functionality?
Sorry if I missed it in the vid. Does it balance the cells while it is charging??
I don't think so. I never charge batteries inside something if they come out easily...
Great video. Can this TX16S bind with Lemon RX7 plus reciever with stabilisation feature? TIA
See github.com/pascallanger/DIY-Multiprotocol-TX-Module for full list of supported protocols.. best of luck
You can buy a 3d printed part off ebay to add a removable antenna to your tx16s
Hi what does the six buttons do above the logo(that light up red)I noticed you had one lit up?is it for the switches? BTW I have this on backorder.thx
It's a six position switch.. See the T16 videos..
I have a weird question, the Radiolink r12ds receiver work with the open tx?
Should do, in a radio with a compatible module..
What should I set the low voltage alarm to? Thanks a million.
For a model I usually want it to warn me around 3.7 -3.8 volts per cell so I can land and have the pack still well above the 3.5v per cell minimum.. Happy flying!
How do I get inav script to work with the tx16s please?
There isn't anything special. I'd update to the latest OpenTX and use the version of script created for the X10/X12/T16/T18 and TX16s. Best of luck!
@@Painless360 I had to add a telemetry folder to get the script to work. Using 2.3.9 open tx does not have a telemetry folder.
Thank you for your video support for this radio (TX16S), I have searched the internet but cannot find any answers to my question which is: As a lot of modellers are buying E-Flight planes with safe select and using the Spektrum tx how do you bind the AR636 6 channel receiver to the TX16S tx, I can bind but cannot get the safe select to work. I hope you can answer this questions. Thanks
If I had one here to test, I would. There are a number of Spektrum compatible protocols so I'd try all of them..
I am holding my Breath. Ha. I am sure you will be asked this question again. Thanks
thanks for the video mate, what is the size of the gimbal screws M3 or M4? thank you
Thanks for the great content. Are we able to install a 6-position Pot switch similar to how we did on the Taranis X9D Plus?
I've not tried, the 6 position buttons that come pre-installed fro that for you..
@@Painless360 wait a moment. The radio already has 6 position buttons installed?

Painless360 I did, but I didn’t see the 6 position pointed out. To me they appear as normal rollers.
Can you walk us through so me Orange and DSM cheap receiver binds.. I've been unsuccessful so far.
What settings have you tried?
@@Painless360 I figured out what I was doing wrong..
I forgot to take the bind plug out after binding.
I'm using Multi DSM 2 22ms..

When I work on the telemetry under widgets settings on the source, what does TRSS stand for? Is there a place I can go to find all the values for the abbreviations?
Trss is the signal strength of the d8/d16 protocols telemetry on the multiprotocol module.. I'm not finding a simple place to look it up.. yet
@@Painless360 I was hoping it had something to do with the transmission strength. I get a numeric display of 53 when I plug it in. I have no idea what the d8/d16 protocols do. I've been trying to get the read out of the battery in my plane but I use the dsm in my Valient and so far it appears I won't be able to get that displayed on my radio. ANy ideas would help, Thanks for your last reply
RSSI is the strength of the received signal. Remember to tune the radio for the best RSSI - see my video on multiprotocol tips and tricks..
Great info looking forward to mine this week hopefully
How do you rate this radio after having it for a while is it the best?
One thing I didn't like with my T16 was the roller, it seemed to have some... sloppiness, when switching directions, is the best way to put it. I put some tape around the metal part of the roller to give it some more thickness. Does the radiomaster have the same issue? I noticed it uses a very similar mechanism with its metal roller.
This one feels a lot better...
Great T16S videos! Thanks very much for the info! I have questions about this radios compatibility with a Wireless Training Mode called MASTER/SBUS
I'm into this Wireless Training using the OTx Trainer Mode: MASTER/SBUS which passes the trainee's stick data thru the radio board to the model in flight.
I'm playing with the wireless telemetry options at the moment and once I've figured it out, I'll make a video.. Stay tuned!
@@Painless360 Terrific! Thanks
Many thanks 👍
I'd like a radio system to use with GPS quads and wings would this be a better option for me than a skydroid T10 or T12? Thanks in advance
See other answer.. ;)
They finally updated the faulty ribbon connections with good old wire connectors?
If by 'they' you mean Jumper. No, they didn't. Happy flying
Another tricky and challanging question, is it possible to use both the internal transmitter and the module bay transmitter?, so that you would kinda have a backup if something would fail?
Stay tuned, I have a video showing some of that...
@@Painless360 uhhhh thats cool i for sure will stay tuned =)
I'm have a problem with a Aeroscout with a AR630 receiver it's binding ok but it's not letting me disengage the safe mode

Thanks. Still wondering about additional contacts to wire in extra inputs like on the X9E has?
I am new to OpenTX and the Radiomaster, in fact the Radiomaster should arrive today. I have 4 new unused FrSky V8FR receivers, NOT the mk ii verions. I have seen it reported that some OpenTX radios like Teranis cannot bind to this now unavailable receiver. Can the Radiomaster bind to it. If not, would it bind if the rf fine tuning is used? many thanks for the best videos on these topics.
If it can the detail will be listed in the wiki.. Best of luck
I'm sure that support will come in time. If you want FrSky, buy FrSky..

Brand new to drones and I've read a lot of advice telling me to get this controller and practice in a simulator until i feel comfortable enough to fly a drone irl. I just purchased this and realized that it may need special batteries (Which, it obviously does.) does this radio need to battery powered in order to use it on my PC?

Did you ever find out? Have you ever lost signal with spektrum receiver and dsmx, I'm currently getting low rf, critical
do you need a battery for the pc simulator?
Yes you do.
I have just come back to rc after about 6 years (it seems longer but the firmware on my barely used Spektrum DX8 says 2014) and I have a bit of legacy gear.
I have two problems.
1.Having found this channel I am spending more time watching than doing. :-)
2. Should I sell the DX8 and buy a TX16S?
Sorry about that, you've missed a lot in the last 8 years. The hobby has benefited from a lot of interest in the 'multirotor' and 'fpv' areas and we are all reaping the benefits. The kit is better, cheaper and more reliable than ever. The DX8 is a nice radio but most of the modern stuff like Ardupilot, INAV, Betaflight and others all work with stuff like FrSky, RadioMaster and Jumper now.. See my Kit Picks 2020 video from last year for what I use here..
@@Painless360 Well, the Matek F722-SE AIO should arrive tomorrow, at only £4 more than the Omnibus F4 it was a no brainer. Overkill for my DJI Flame Wheel but I can use it to get up to speed then put it in something a bit more serious later. Waiting for the Radiomaster TX16S with 'Masterfire' starter kit to come back into stock, and mulling over the various merits of a Bixler or a Volantex Ranger.
Lockdown has a lot to answer for but with all this material on your channel I will make less of those expensive mistakes I made when I first started out with a Ripmax Futaba M series, frequency pennants, and a second hand Gentle Lady.
How do the gimbals feel compare to Jumper T16? Jumper T16 has a notchyness in center stick, is it noticable on the TX16S?
I can't feel a notch. More flying and testing needed though..
@@Painless360 that is a good sign. If time permits after testing it while flying, if you can make another video discussing the gimbals itself. Things of interest are feel, notchyness in center and compare them to T16 and Taranis or other radios. I appreciate your reviews.
Nice informative aswering... and thank you very much for that. But, as far as I have been looking for, I have not seen any review using the Radiomaster (or even Jumper T16 ) with 50cc or bigger size gassers airplanes. And that is a real shame, because both companies maybe are missing a huge amount of money. Radiomaster and Jumper should also aim, face up and shake strongly the big and more stabilshed radio companies in that niche, in my humble opinion. Greetings from south of Brazil.
In my experience larger scale pilots like to stick to kit they know and have used for a long time. Until this radio has a little more time under it's belt I wouldn't use it on my most expensive models either... Once I have that confidence then I would happily move up, especially if I was using the bay for something like Crossfire..
Great followup to the introductory review. Wow...I just received my Jumper T16 Pro last week and I was wondering - should I be concerned regarding its ribbon connections? And now [in addition] the Jumper T18 is around the corner. Choices choices... At these prices I am willing to pick up another one as a backup [still cheaper than one DX8].
Again. Another brilliant review.
Greetings from Florida.
I've had my t16 pro for half a year now and haven't had any issues with those ribbon cables. Really happy with the radio.
