In this video I will tell you about the mandatory top dressing that must be applied every year in my garden, otherwise every year the harvest will be less and less. Place 2 tablespoons of soil in a bowl and add ½ cup vinegar. If the mixture fizzes, you have alkaline soil.
Place 2 tablespoons of soil in a bowl and moisten it with distilled water. Add ½ cup baking soda. If the mixture fizzes, you have acidic soil.
Which one needs milk?

Or you can make my soil recipe for a large container pot.
I do container gardening up north in zone 5A and make my own homemade potting mix.
I start by using clay dug from my backyard I let it dry in the sun on my driveway then I crush it into a fine powder then sweep it up and collect it.
I used to use the topsoil as part of my base ingredients instead of clay, but I've found that the clay has way more minerals than the native topsoil in my backyard.
Basically I mix the clay, coarse garden perlite, compost, worm castings, coconut coir , plus inoculants and amendments together by hand.
Per 10 cubic foot giant wheelbarrow (1 batch):
5 gallons coconut coir
5 gallons of crushed powdered clay
5 gallons of locally-sourced earth worm castings
5 gallons of my homemade super compost (fortified with rock dust and charcoal)
5 gallons of coarse garden perlite
This is the bulk of my soil base mix. Then I add these inoculants and amendments to the base mix listed above.
(1)Bat Guano
(2)Bone meal
(3) blood meal
(4) rice hauls
(5) alfalfa meal
(6) kelp meal
(7) seaweed meal
(8) aged chicken manure
(9) green sand "mineral deposits from the ocean floor"
(10) feather meal
(11) mycorrhiza "a type of fungus"
(12) microorganism mix "multiple different types of microorganism bacteria"
(13) neem cake meal
(14) red wiggler worms about one dozen per flower pot depending on the pot size
If you could see through my soil would look like a tangled web of millions of white spider webs in the soil mixture, this is also known as Santa's Beard, it's a good thing 👍.
This is the holy grail of the home gardener, it's known as "soil hyphae" a type of mycorrhiza fungus network that has a beneficial symbiotic relationship with the vegetable plant roots.
If you're able to achieve this hyphae network magical things happen like absolute ridiculous yields from one plant, it's truly insane 😳👍.
I basically make a living soil and let the soil feed the plants (happy soil microbes happy plants)🤷.
The only time i actually feed the plants is maybe for the first 5 weeks. I might occasionally mix some fish emulsion with water depending on the current growth rate.
Basically if you build your soil properly in the beginning, there's really no reason to feed your plants in my very short grow season 🤷.

Its chalk, aka calcium carbonate. Its the same thing as in heartburn chews. It WILL reduce acidity, but will also feed calcium, which seems to be something fertilizers lack.
Calcium is good for root development
Dolemite lime will do the same thing.

@@user-vp3vw3mi9z Yes, but... While eggshells are nearly pure calcium, you probably don't eat enough eggs to supply enough calcium to the soil. Powdered gardening calcium is not very expensive and you get enough to actually make a difference. I've also used crushed oyster shell, its a feed supplement for chickens, as a soil additive. I mix three or four bags into the top five inches of freshly tilled soil. You can also get a five gallon bucket, fill halfway with oyster shell and top off with water. This dissolves some calcium into the water and you can pour it off and refill for months. I usually let it soak 3-6 days before using it to water potted plants. If you need more water, a 50 gallon water barrel might be a better idea. The powdered gardening calcium is a lot less work though.

I've heard of the chalk method. Some people have great results. You can also use A teaspoon of 3% hydrogen peroxide and a measured 1/cup of atmosphere warm water. Stir it up let sit for a few minutes in the same measured cup. Then pour ONLY a quarter of the cup per watering of each plant onto the soil about 2 inches away from the stalk. The Plants should be at least 5 weeks old for this method. Slightly loosen the soil about 2 to three inches away from the stalk. About an inch deep. No deeper than that. Then gently push the soil back in place, do not pack the soil back down tightly. You can also make bonemeal out of chicken bones after boiling on medium heat for 20 minutes. Make sure the meat is gone off the bones. Pour through a strainer into a measuring cup. Let bones dry for a few minutes while your oven is warming up to 300 degrees, NO MORE than 350 degrees. Put the bones in on aluminum foil OR a pan for 20 minutes Maximum time. OR YOU will ruin the bones. Let cool after removing from oven. Otherwise set a damn timer. Then get a coffee grinder and pulverize the bones. I ALWAYS have gently used a light smashing in a red shop rag to help my coffee grinder last longer. If You are not into doing that, you can always look in the stores for POWDERED bone meal. I also crush white OR brown egg shells into a powder.Then as before gently move the soil Away from the stalk about an INCH DEEP, and sprinkle a teaspoonful of the bonemeal around the whole stalk. Gently as before, move the soil back in place. If the soil is somewhat dry after the bonemeal and powdered eggshells are buried beneath the soil, gently water when the soil is put back just enough to moisten the top of the soil. Don't overwater.. If you air dry banana peels, lay in the sun till you can powder them you can use that method also. I boil some water 2 1/2 cups to 4 soft complete banana peels, remove the boiling water and immediately put the peels in and cover the pot for 15 minutes. Remove the peels and put on something to dry. Strain and Pour the water into another large measure cup. Then AFTER IT'S completely COOLED OFF, pour on top of the soil just to moisten the soil, enough as if you were lightly watering your plants. You can only use these methods about every 5 to 6 weeks. I only do it one time per plant. Do Not combine ALL THESE INGREDIENTS and use them all at one time. Don't overdo it or you'll kill your plants. Everything in moderation.
Chalk? I think the narrator means pulverized Lime. He's basically making a slurry. It'll raise the pH of the soil.
You can do the same thing with Peppers or tomatoes.

This is called in India as dolomite which is used to balance the pH of the alcaline soail . Other thing is processed lime shell .
Its literally chalk, calcium bicarbonate. It will reduce the acidity and provide calcium to the plant.
First people need to understand & know how to check soil PH. This is essential don't just assume the problem is PH. Buy a PH test kit, they're cheap & easy to use. Trying to remedy a PH issue when there is no PH issye will be disastrous.

For better long-term effects, crush eggshells and mix it with the soil. The more acidity in the soil, the faster the eggshells let out the calcium.
When you know the soil naturally turn acid, sprinkle crushed eggshells, so much you can't tell if the surface is white/beige with dark spots or dark with white/beige, one to three times a year, or more if the shells disappear sooner.
BUT also, a cup of yoghurt or buttermilk (check so it contains living lactic acid bacteria!! It's that you want!) is good for the natural micro system, especially if you use processed fertilizer, not natural.
A cheap alternative to processed fertilizer is sting nettles.
You can pick nettles and put in a bucket of water, put a lid on, let ferment for two weeks. Use it 1 part nettle water to 10 parts water. However, the stench is awful, and there's a non-smelly way too. Pick the nettles, let them dry, crush them and mix into the soil. A lot of it. That will also make the earthworms happy, any dead plants are food for them. They eat plants, and poop out the best fertilizer any living plant could ever have! Be nice to your earthworms!!
Remember that the quality of the WATER can affect the soil too.

If you have an abundance of nutrients, your plant will adjust the Ph at the rhizosphere. Do a soil test and fill the voids qere nutrients is needed.

No, baking soda is Sodium bicarbonate, its a salt. Calcium carbonate is what they are using in the vid. Its NOT THE SAME. Trust me, the chemistry is very different. Feeding baking soda will kill your plants. Feeding water soluble calcium will support their ability to take in water.

We don’t have them, so I don’t know how to deal with them, but I know for sure that there are poisons for any pest, find out in your local garden stores.
Put petroleum jelly around the stalks of your plants. The termites won't be able to get to them after this easy step. Also stops ants bringing aphids
