I contracted genital HSV-1 with my first sexual partner at the age of 19 and he did not know about his condition. It broke me, I thought that no one would ever love me again or that I could never have an intimate relationship again. To my surprise, I've been in a relationship for the past 4.5 years with an amazing man that accepted me for who I was and what I have. Unfortunately our relationship has come to an end, and now I live with the same questions I had 5 years ago. I have genital hsv1 also this guy with a cold sore ate me out and he didn’t know. It’s not a big deal a lot of people have oral herpes. Don’t let it bring you down. The only thing that sucks is the physical pain. You’ll find someone don’t worry.

Before I had herpes I never asked for my partner's sexual history or test history. I thought I was safe from always wearing a condom but it just showed I didn't care about my health enough. Yea I REALLY wish that I got something curable but it made me take care of myself more. I say this because what you were saying about sexual health pulled my focus back to me and not the blame on others, which helps a lot with moving on.

Thank you for encouraging my role in de-stigmatizing HSV. I have had this for 25 years and been proposed to 4 times and married! Today I was rejected for herpes for the first time. I'm in shock. We had such an awesome connection. Ironically, it is also during this time when I feel I am waking to my true beauty and intellect (all inclusive in this HD). It was superficial for him. And I deserve more.

My outbreaks are painful af but I never use hope. I’ve told plenty of other guys and they still loved me and stayed with me. Hsv2 is the same shit anyways. We will be ok. It’s not a big deal.

What's really hard for me Laureen...is that i have no problem picking up women and I could have my choice of women about 85 percent of the time. And when i found out i had this virus. i went from smiling and flirting and going on dates with the opposite sex and enjoying the lil things that women have to offer to basically chaos in my mind and horrific withdrawls. Because i was forced to quit women cold turkey.(at that time in my life) And that was so devastating to me. So I turned to other things to escape....ie...booze. And that got me into a lot of trouble. Started being mean to ppl...fighting, got locked upa few times...etc, etc. I was in denial. But i have told a told a few family members....because i needed mental support and not a bottle. They all gave me differnt opinions....but in the end....it's my call. So I put the bottle down and started doing other things.
Meditate, it will change your life.

Just the thought of it disgusts me how someone could feel so lowly of you to not even mention it. Disclosing it seems really scary and I already have a ton of anxiety to begin with. We ended up being together for 9 months one of the best relationships iv ever had❤ im still working though alot of my trauma however iv come along way due . I honstly should have updated but I forgot about the comment and really get a notification when someone comments back. Since that time I've learned that people are a lot more understanding STDS then I could have ever imagined. Just like she said in the video it's the same as being bald chewing with your mouth open or being argumentative person. We all have flaws And the right person is willing to overcome those flaws because they care about you and they like you for who you are!

I respect your courage for being able to disclose your status and on a large platform. I don't have any STDs. I do have health anxiety. I disagree with the idea that everybody has herpes. One out of ten have genital and one out of six have oral. I think there has to be a balance between not stigmatizing something and not saying that everyone has it so therefore it's not a big deal.

That stat is people who have symptoms. It is estimated 80% of the population have it and are asymptomatic

Feeling extremely hurt and confused right now. My bf and I both have herpes, I have both kinds...I had an hsv1 outbreak that is healing (no open wounds) and I went to kiss him on the cheek and he moved away from me. We got into an argument...every rejection came rushing back and I didn’t even want to talk to him. I don’t know what to feel but it makes me want to push him away. I understand his concern but he hasn’t even kissed me on the forehead. It makes me feel all these dirty feelings. Again I understand, but I feel like he doesn’t. For the last two days he just goes to sit on his computer and every once in awhile he’ll come over and talk. My feelings are hurt. It’s been awhile since I’ve experienced rejection while in a relationship.

Fear makes us do alot of insensitive things i believe expressing yourself to him and accepting its how he feels and not that YOUR a problem is more logical and healing. We can't control how people are or feel we can only choose to communicate move on and do what is best for ourselves.

Just don't disclose. If someone rejects you over a zit they deserve to know how it feels to be rejected over a zit. Pass it around like a gift.. everyone can have it til inspired enough to find a permanent cure. 😂 70% of the population already does... Way too big a deal made about such a tiny thing. I think its best to disclose your herpes positive status before sex. But I also think that the way society views it is totally mangled and non-sensical. Everybody accepts people having casual sex as long as they get regular STI checks- but these do not include herpes tests. So it is generally accepted as OK to have casual sex whilst having no idea whether you have herpes- and yet its considered wrong (and people will get angry) to even think about doing the same thing if you have taken to time to confirm that you have it. The risk with no test is 0.25/1000 per sexual encounter whereas with a positive test its 1/1000 per sexual encounter. The change in perception is not AT ALL in proportion to the reality of the risk you are subjecting the other person to.

Your videos have been so helpful for me! Could you do a video about how herpes affects your sex drive? Since being diagnosed, it has made it very hard for me to be sexually intimate with people that accept my status. I try to relax and enjoy sex, but it is always in the back of my mind thinking "Will this sex trigger an outbreak?".

Getting a cold sore and having HSV 1 isn’t necessarily a STI you can get a cold sore from drinking after someone, sharing utensils, and sharing a cigarette so I don’t agree that it is a STD

Great point! I think dating websites for people with herpes solve one problem but create (or reinforce) another one.
I see those platforms as a great starting point for newly diagnosed HSV+ for whom hearing their diagnosis quenched their hope to ever have a romantic and sexual life post-diagnosis. But long term, it just validates the wrong perception that the only people who'd want to date you as a herpes+ are those who share your same condition.
So net net: if you use those platforms because you prefer dating someone who shares your virus because they can relate to your struggles, or you don't have to be as careful about not transmitting it to them, etc that's totally cool. But if you use those platforms because you think whoever doesn't have herpes would systematically turn you down, hence HSV positives are your only options, then that's not cool because you're marginalizing your own self -the irony being that YOU would end up rejecting a large pool of people based on the false assumption that THEY would reject you in the first place.

Try it, it is not expensive, and you can quit anytime. Tomorrow..there is a AM meeting..and a PM one. I attend the 8:30 PM one. She schedules you for either AM/PM and sends a notifacation to your E Mail.., and you are on a ZOOM Site, where you..if you want..use your Cam, and speak with others.I was hesitant,seriously hesitant..but I bit my lip and joined. It is pretty laid back..Seriously, I do not EVER recommend a H Site, but this one is different.We are also on Site called SLACK

A red flag? Cold sores would suggest that someone had herpes type 1 (not genital herpes). You could never tell if someone had herpes type 2 (genital herpes), just by looking at them.
