Yes I can confirm that there is a religious/cultural rule for a man and woman not related to be alone in a room. Even if you trust your wife, it is shameful to leave her vulnarble with a man that could be able to harass her. And even if you trusted both, there is a need to protect a womans reputation and by always having a third person as witness, it should not give a reason to people to slander the woman and suspect her for infidelity. I do not want to be quick to judge but Adnan seems to "follow the cultural rules" because there is cameras and he don't want to get any backlash from his countrymen. He do not seem to be that religious.
