Great breakdown dude! I’m always in a good mood whenever I see a new video pop up. From my perspective regarding Ritson and Ross, I would like to think that the transfer of power would be in 2027 like you said since I believe that placing the movie all the way to 2029 would be too far. It would be a simple way to explain why Ross is President now don’t get me wrong. I would just love to see Dermot Mulroney as Ritson one last time since he was kind of underused in Secret Invasion. Having Ritson in the beginning announcing his resignation or impeachment and then having Ross step in shortly afterwards works the best for me.

Oooof...good point. Let's hope BNW is better than SI. Interestingly, SI started out really good. It suffered the most when it turned into a movie about fighting aliens in that series finale. So it was good to hear Mackie say that won't be happening.
Is it really? Apart from Sentry, White Widow and USAgent there are no 'replacements' for actual Avengers, like Mac Gargan Venom, Bullseye's Hawkeye, Daken's Wolverine, Ares as Thor figure, Moonstone as Cap Marvel and Iron Patriot as Iron Man and Cap rolled into one were. Doesnt make sense for title to change, if we are going to see actual Thunderbolts and team will evolve into Dark Avengers in the end. Its still a Thunderbolts movie through and through, even if future takes part of the team into different places. I think its something totally different. People excited just for Thunderbolts team would be upset. Its not a smart move. Dark Avengers is at places similiar, but also totally separate thing.

Yeah, it feels like it could be a combination of the Thunderbolts storyline and the Dark Avengers storyline. Basically taking the best elements of both and mashing them up for a killer movie!

I think the idea of a government run Avengers team is really cool and it gives the impression that CA 4 won't end well for the Avengers team if the next movie is the government trying to replace them. Yeah, I think people didn't expect much to come from it. It's aimed more at theatre owners than at fans, so the theory was that it wouldn't have alot of new info. But my goodness, Feige really delivered!

That is a bold statement from Mackie for sure. Making the movie new fan friendly is good progress on Marvel's part but very Winter Soldier-like you say? That's a statement that I wonder how truthful that will be. Like is it only kind of like Winter Soldier or is it just really like Winter Soldier? That's the question. Well we know he'll become Red Hulk no doubt but also you mention the timeline keeper Drew but we know it's really you, haha. But also the rebuilding of the Avengers is ... yeah that's wild. On the flip side it really feels like the general public just assume the Avengers are still an active team or something given Kamala's line and the other lines. Didn't know about Isaiah, that's gonna be really cool. The other details are interesting for sure. On the subject of Dark Avengers, I hope we eventually get characters like Ares considering we recently got Hercules, just more of that pantheon would be great.
Yeah, hyping this to be like Winter Soldier was a bold move. Really hoping it pays off! And I agree, I'd love to see more of the Dark Avengers showing up in the MCU. Perhaps the Thunderbolts is just the start of things to come!
This movie is definitely going to give people a much better idea of what the new avengers team is going to look like going into Avengers 5 and Secret Wars and I cant wait.
if you look at President Ellis's term (and include Agents of SHIELD), Ellis was President when Cap was unfrozen based on the "Welcome back, Cap" quote at his exhibit, and seemed to still be President in 2017. Which ties into the Phil Coulson is Special Agent Mike Casper from the West Wing theories, because the Presidential elections were offset by 2 years in that series.

I think that Ross is wanting to make another avengers team, that he’s going to attempt to make it without Sam. And with his nickname, maybe they’d joke about calling themselves The Thunderbolts. But after the movie, to the public they were introduced as The new Avengers (different team), but after whatever happens the news portrays them as the Dark Avengers with how brutal they might make the situation. Hence the asterisk!
That's a good theory. I could see Hydra being behind this. There's always been the fear that they would find a way to resurface when we least expect it!
Captain America 4 sounds amazing! I also love that it‘s not really too much information so we don‘t really know what to expect. But hearing it will be in the tone of Winter Soldier makes me hyped up. From that Thunderbolts movie I really want to see them fight each other several times and some just watching them fight and enjoy it. (would match to Taskmaster (from the comics) or maybe Ghost)
I'm tempted to come into this movie blind, as I do end up enjoying movies more that way, but I can't deny the stuff I keep hearing makes me feel very curious. I'm still unsure if they'll stick to the timeframe, or will timeskip even further to make the President Ross thing real, but I guess we'll find out next year.
Yeah, I think Marvel's doing a good job so far of giving us a few story elements here and there, but not spoiling the movie. I like hearing some general things about the movie so I know what to expect, but I really hope they avoid giving away too much in the the trailers.
Given the presence of the Hulk-related characters (Thunderbolt Ross, Betty, Leader), I'm curious if Hulk himself will make an appearance, even if it's just a cameo.
I really hope we see Bruce show up. It needs to be Sam's movie in the end, but Civil War did a great job of being a Steve Rogers centered movie that still had lots of additional heroes and storylines going at the same time.

Captain America Brave New World needs to take place either in November 2028 or April 2029, the reason that they need to place it in that part of the timeline, is because of Thaddeus Ross mentioning the Presidential Election, and the next one after this year is November 2028.
Yeah, I'm really curious to see if they have a way to explain that line in context with the movie being in early 2027, or if they truly do jump forward nearly 2 years. That would be so wild if they jump ahead that far, but I agree, the line sure seems to indicate that.
I'm excited for all of these movies, it would be cool if the Thunderbolts changed to Dark Avengers that would surprise a lot of people. I heard rumors that She-Hulk and Hulk could appear in Captain America 4 and that would make sense with Red Hulk being involved, i hope they appear it would be cool to see them in action again and they could have interactions with Ross,Betty and Leader. Praying we get a post credit scene teasing a future Hulk project.

Feige saying that the asterix for Thunderbolts will be explained after the movie comes out makes me think that it won't get a title change. Maybe it's something to do with the plot, where the name of the team is uncertain and they call themselves the Thunderbolts as kind of a placeholder.
I think you answered your own question on the asterisk. If Ross wants Cap to rebuild Avengers, money would say Cap says no, leading Ross to start his own team with USAgent as his Captain America. Dark Avengers is probably a very correct assumption.
Love that idea...yeah, the fact that the Thunderbolts * movie is following Brave New World isn't a good sign for Sam's effort to form a new Avengers team.
The Incredible Hulk has always been one of my favourite MCU movie ever. Arguably the best version of the Hulk ever, right up there with Bana's version in 2003. I'm super excited that they're finally acknowledging it, beyond Abomination's return in recent projects. As for the asterisk in the Thunderbolts logo, that was my first thought too! I think that it's probably a very spoilery title that cannot be revealed until other projects come out first.
Yeah, I'm very excited to see the Hulk return in CA 4. I think having Betty and Thunderbolt Ross both in the movie is a great time to have some much needed reunions between the characters. And I think you're right about them wanting to wait and change the Thunderbolts title after a few more things come out. Man, Feige is really cooking up some great movies for 2025!
I theorize the Asterisk will be an addition to the title within the course of the film. Like how "Falcon & the Winter Soldier" changed to "Captain America & the Winter Soldier" on the finale's closing out seauence. Maybe they add a subtitle, or they show the whole title transition to "Dark Avengers" or something.
Ah cinemacon... I actually went back in 2021 when I was a GM at a theater (they showed us an early showing of Shang Chi! It was awesome!). I hope someday i get to go again (maybe in 2025/6 when they'll have some Avengers stuff 👀)

Man as someone who actually prefers Sam Wilson to Steve Rodgers, a Winter Soldier-esque movie with him, possibly Red hulk, but at least Ross and other Incredible Hulk characters, sounds AMAZING! I really hope this movie lives up to the hype that would be sick. As for thunderbolts, sorry thunderbolts* they've been doing a lot of interesting things with titles recently, if you look at Agatha and her series. I wouldn't put it past them to change it to dark avengers especially because that does seem to be how the team is rounding out. buuuut, most of the time an asterisk means more information, not that something is going to change. My guess is that the thunderbolts are technically a subdivision of the avengers. This would make sense as to why Bucky is joining along with other seemingly reformed characters, its totally on the books (even if shady) with Val, perhaps shes working with Ross, and would kinda align with the dark avengers theming and why they can't show anything yet. We need to see the new avengers forming before they can tell us that they're a subdivision of that team. Could totally be wrong but thats my 2 cents
Excellent theories...I agree...the * may well become a sub-title to the film alluding to them either being an Avengers subsidiary or perhaps being the Dark Avengers going forward in a follow-on movie!
Leader has been put on a cryo preservation like something by shield he's been sleepin in a chamber filled with fluid. it's shown in one of the prelude comics it's happened after incredible hulk when black widow catches him

I actually believe that the asterisk in Thunderbolts* will be an inside joke in the movie first but just add a subheadding/subtitle/description to Thunderbolts. I don't believe they will name it Dark Avengers because I feel like they would not use the term Avengers before Avengers 5 in a movie title. But I could be wrong and just maybe we already learn more about this in Cap 4 but I doubt it. Think we will have to wait and see Yelena explaining this😅
Personally, I enjoyed most of Phase Four but I did see the problems people had, but the upcoming MCU projects sound really good like Daredevil: Born Again, Deadpool & Wolverine, Captain America: Brave New World, and they will probably revive the MCU Fandom to Phase Three standards.
100% agreed...I think the writer's strike ended up being a good thing for the MCU, as it forced Feige to take a much needed breather since all work stopped and so he was able to really gather his thoughts, fix some issues (such as with the CA 4 reshoots), and retool things in a way that we'll be getting a ton of awesome material in 2025. Can't wait!
I mean, in the comics characters can have an Editorial Name (Spider-Gwen) and a Canonical Name (Spider-Woman, Ghost-Spider). Thunderbolts could be their canonical name, while Dark Avengers is their editorial name. Or vice versa. Or they could canonically be the Avengers but editorially be the Dark Avengers.
Yeah, that idea could definitely work...I like that. I think we'll essentially be getting a mash up of concepts from the Thunderbolts and Dark Avengers, so the movie is looking really good!
I feel like since they announced the film as Thunderbolts* officially it will end up like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier where at the end of the credits it was titled Captain America and the Winter Soldier despite not being titled that in any labels oe posters. Thunderbolts* is the film, but the Dark Avengers might be the team
I feel like/ hope Brave new world is referring to the fact that this isn’t the old mcu anymore. It’s a proper marvel universe with various heroes and villains showing up. As opposed to the previous status quo where it would just be the characters and concept of the movie (so like super soldiers and magic or whatever) but otherwise be basically the real world. Basically the she hulk approach where there’s dozens of random characters and we don’t need an origin story for everyone.

Yes, based on what Mackie said, this movie will be the start of a new direction for the MCU and I do indeed hope that means more team-ups, more villains, etc. That will be a very welcome change, if so. I mean, we have all the characters in place, so now it's time to use them to their fullest and give us alot of team-ups!
Im actually really excited for Captain America: Brave New World. I think that the concept so far is so intresting and I really want this movie to prove that Sam deserves to be Captain America. I also really like the whole recasting refrence.

@AbitofEverything4U It may be unrealistic but hey, he does have a history with the Thunderbolts in the comics and I find it to be a reasonable excuse to hide the true title of Thunderbolts, at least for the next few months until DP3 releases. Perhaps he's the target that the government sets the Thunderbolts to go after.
I can't remember if it was addressed in the presidents video, but the Blip could be a potential explanation for the odd election date. If everybody returned in 2023 it isn't that far fetched to suggest they held an election (since you know, half of people didn't vote), which would change up the election cycle and put the next election in 2027. Just a thought.

I like the idea of their election cycle having gotten messed up at some point because of all of the crazy stuff that's happened in this universe. Would be cool to hear about that in the movie if it's part political thriller.
My only problem is him becoming Falcon. In general I don't like it when the next generation of heroes just adopt the same names as the ones before, but at least with Captain America it is a propaganda position. Falcon was literally Sam's nickname or callsign (can't remember which) when he was in the military. It makes no sense for Torres to adopt that name in-universe.

So this is fascinating. Okay so Ellis was very pro superheroes and pro Avengers and he was in office until at least 2013. The natural end of his term would be 2016. If he took over for Obama, he could have been reelected in 2016. If he just replaces Obama, then he leaves in 2016. Well in 2016,Ross is Secretary of State and pushing the Sokovia Accords. To my mind this is an indication that public sentiment towards and against super heroes has changed and it's a controversial topic. This could have led to a change in administration and Ellis was a 1 term president. We don't know who Ross' president was. It couldn't be Ritson. The math on that doesn't work out. But Ritson could be VP. But in either case this has to be the opposite political party to Ellis. Okay so Mystery President holds from 2016-2020 (unless he dusted,that's something to think about!) but midway through that term, the Blip happens. I have to imagine that party was looked at disfavorably by a lot of the Blip survivors. Like united the Avengers could have stopped Thanos but you forced them to break up. So that president does not win re-election. Somebody from Ellis' party does. But then in 2023, the Blip ends. Now Falcon and Winter Soldier tells us that national borders were basically done away with because countries needed to cooperate to survive,refugees moved,etc. The Hulk snap brought everyone back. And now the countries go back to their old ways,enforcing borders and working against and not trusting each other. In this environment Ritson wins the election. The U.S. has to go back to being strong against its enemies. But something happens to Ritson. He is either assassinated or impeached early in the movie (or it happens offscreen, more likely). And Ross is now president. His party still has majority support but he is going about it differently than Ritson. Instead of openly antagonizing, he is more about shadow moves like have U.S. backed Avengers. That's my best guess.
Since the Netflix shows were canonised, that means Trump was President at least from 2016-2018. So I'm assuming it's Obama 2008-2012, Ellis 2012-2016, Trump 2016-2018, Blip Government (whatever form that took) 2018-2023, then Ritson and Ross at some point that we can't nail down yet.

So the big mystery is 2018 - 2024. Did Trump get blipped or survive the blip. If he survived, was he re-elected or did Biden win in 2020. If Trump was blipped did Clinton or Biden perhaps win in a special blip election and then was Trump irritated he wasn't president when he returned in 2023? So many interesting questions to be answered. Great feedback! I am slowly but surely making my way through the Defenders shows since they were canonized. So far I have only seen Jessica Jones in its entirety and half of Iron Fist.If Trump is mentioned as president I don't know where it appears. I think your previous video about the presidents did say it happened in Luke Cage. That does close the first question I had. I have had time to think about it and I have 2 more points. First off the Smithsonian exhibit does have a quote from President Ellis saying "Welcome back Cap!" Presumably this was after the return of Steve became public knowledge in the Battle of New York. This would have been in the summer of 2012 well before the election. Therefore Ellis had to be president at the time. I forgot about this because the exhibit isn't seen until Winter Soldier happens. Iron Man 3 also bears out this reasoning because Killian was dodging the president''s research ban on Extremis for years at that point. So to my reasoning Obama was never president (unless he is mentioned somewhere I don't remember, I need to rewatch the presidents video!) To my second point I don't think they are going to say Trump dusted or even mention Trump in MCU proper because I doubt that Marvel wants to invoke him. Regardless of how we feel about him personally and everyone is entitled to their opinions,it would be probably be seen as some kind of political commentary to do so. Even saying Trump dusted would probably risk offending some fans. If he didnt dust speculating on what he might have done during the Blip is equally problematic as is predicting his actions should the Blip have interrupted his presidency.This is why I prefer having fictional presidents. It's just safer! I think Marvel will never confirm or deny this.

Question, did you get the feeling that the eternals are gonna be involved in the big events in the future ? Secret wars, etc… originally their mission prevented them from interfering with human conflicts but after the whole tiumet thing I’m assuming they’d do everything they can to protect the planet, otherwise why stop the celestial from blowing the planet to bits? I guess I’m asking if you think they’ll have their own stories sort of like how their movie was or do you think they’ll show up in other projects? Maybe just one or two of them showing up elsewhere would be pretty cool. They are very underrated tbh
Yeah, I'd love to see them start popping up in lots of places. We've seen Kingo's posters appearing in a few places (such as Loki season 2) and so having the team return would be great. I could see them appearing in Thor 5 as well. That's a great place to resolve some of their storylines from their first movie.

I know the real title makes more sense, but I feel like the first Sam Wilson cap movie should’ve been a continuation of falcon and winter solider, because then it could be called captain America and the winter solider to confuse people lol. Also I kind of hope they use this film to make people like she hulk a bit more. Im a sucker for getting previously not liked things to be a bit more liked (like bad batch and Mando putting the how into “somehow palpatine returned”) and with the hulk blood links between this movie (the leader) and she hulk I think they could get her into this and hopefully to be a bit more likeable. And then it could show her, Sam and some others (eg shang chi) forming the new earth avengers. Also do you think sprite from eternals could become a young avenger? I personally really liked her character and would love to see more of her and I don’t think it’s explicitly said in the movie that making her human removed her powers

11:42 Just had a light bulb moment: in the absence of the real Avengers, the Dark Avengers will become the primary superhero team of the world, but as we'll see, they do not stand for the same values as the Avengers we know. They're destructive, irratic, brash, and the people will hate them and push for the Avengers team they've been missing even more. Finally the real Avengers will be formed (Sam, Shuri, She Hulk, whoever) and will have a face off with the Dark Avengers team and take their place as the world's hero team. A Civil War 2 event. Avengers vs Dark Avengers.
The Winter Soldier was such a good movie, so if Cap 4 is similar to it, I’m really looking forward to it. However, I don’t understand why a Captain America movie is basically a sequel to the Hulk movie. Hopefully, the writers will explain any necessary information via dialogue and won’t assume the audience already knows what happened.
Yeah, it is a concern that there is so much going on in the movie, but I'm guessing that they have gotten it all figured out and that it will all fit together nicely in the end. Perhaps that was the reason for some of the reshoots. Maybe they had to condense the story abit to make it all work.

Yeah, there are a ton of interesting dynamics in this movie. Bruce and Betty...Bruce and Ross...Betty and Ross...Ross and Sam (they've had their issues in the past)...and so on. Gonna be a great movie!

Looking forward to this movie. Cool how is seems to be a mixture of Captain America and hulk storyline coming together like how civil war was a Captain America/ avengers movie. And really they have a lot in common because there were Easter eggs ever since incredible hulk. Saying they were trying to replicate the super soldier program with abomination and the deleted scene where hulk hulking out in the Arctic helped shield find Captain America's body etc.... But I guess this is as good of a place as any to add: I did not like falcon and the winter soldier as much as I wanted. Obviously the main actors did great. Action especially falcon flying through the Grande canyon ( or whatever that was supposed to be) fighting fighter planes was great. And love seeing GSP back as batroc. Big UFC fan. But the story was really hurting. Main issue was they tried to humanize/ feel sorry for terrorists bombing innocent people. Idk if it was the actress or just thinking about that concept just seems so evil to me. Because yes villains have been humanized plenty of times before and even pure evil villains have the charisma where you love to hate them. Darth Vader, kingpin, joker, Thanos, etc etc into eternity. But she was very unlikable and I feel like the writers wanted you to be on the terrorist side. Just felt really off. Almost like the writers are evil terrorists themselves...I kid but do I really... And the whole bad Captain America killing the terrorist and that was supposed to make people in the terrorists side... Uuuummmm no. Blood on the should is bad symbolism. But do the writers understand what soldiers do? Army, Navy, Marines are not held to the same standards as cops as in no reading their rights before taking them out. Kinda in the mind set of punisher. I love the mentality of punisher because even though it's not PTSD, he Even tells that in court, it is more philosophical than that. The government gives an 18 year old a gun. License to kill. Point at a target and no remorse over casualties. Punisher finds the scum of the Earth puts them in his cross hairs and he cares about making sure there are no casualties. Who's really the bad guy here? Government said to do it? It's a ok. He takes it upon his self with his morals and he's villainized. The government didn't use morals when telling him who to take out. But he is. But anyway that's allot better writing then terrorists are redeemable because reasons ( but imo giving no reasons) I get it punisher is an anti hero and not villain so it's sort of apples and oranges. But I feel like the writers wanted her to be an anti hero how they framed it. Did not work to an offensive level.
I think you aren't alone in not liking FATWS as much as you wanted to. I liked it myself, but I know a lot of people weren't satisfied. And I definitely agree that the Flagsmasher storyline was my biggest issue as well. I think that's probably why Mackie was saying that Brave New World won't require watching FATWS first, meaning it won't tie into that storyline very much. But I do like the idea that Brave New World is going to be similar to the Winter Soldier movie. That's one of my favorites and it was very grounded and had amazing action. So I think they learned the right lessons and I'm hoping Brave New World will be awesome. Fingers crossed!

That's a cool explanation. I like that. I've also heard people say that Kahorri used her "space stone" powers to create a tiny barrier around Peggy's hand so that she wasn't directly touching the stones. So that might work, too. I like that there are a few ways to make it work and avoid the plot hole.

Yeah, it was definitely a tough choice for Marvel to decide what to do. Ross was a great character and Hurt was a great actor, but the impact Chadwick had on the world was so massive. So I think Marvel feared it would look like they were diminishing Chadwick's death to recast him so soon. But I do kinda wish they had gone that direction anyway.

Plus, Shuri is an amazing character in the comics in her own right, she didn't need to carry the burden of the Panther. Anyway...

Right...in Shang Chi it was definitely a loose team, but I do wonder if it was a real team since several months later in Eternals we learn they still didn't have a team leader and also in Far From Home even Talos didn't know where the Avengers were. So I suspect they still informally spoke to each other, but weren't meeting regularly. Just my theory though...hopefully we learn more in the movie.

Great theory...yeah, Rick Flag's death was such a shock in that movie, so you could be right that in addition to lots of other deaths (I love Red Guardian, but I could see him dying as well as at least one more of the other members of the team) I could also see either Bucky or Yelena dying. Bucky has been shown in the promo photos for Thunderbolts, so I think he's in the movie for sure...but I agree that it seems odd at first. But I wonder if he's recruited by Val since he likely can't get a job doing much else, due to the fact that the public might not have forgiven him for all he did. Will be interesting to see how they explain it when the movie arrives!

i really hope it is like the winter solider my favorate mcu film.they made claim at one point black widow and that was letdown. i thought falcon and winter soldier was decent.as old timer marvel fan lol i liked how it took elemts of 80's ca comics. without getting into nitpicking i think ross doesn't have mustace because harrison ford refused to grow one especilly if this is a one and done film for him which rumor says it could be.betty may only be in film to attend ross's funeral at end.i liked mackie as sam and was a team cap guy for civil war so this film has my attention.hopefully trailer is good. i still stand by my belief they should had put hitus on all things wakanda untill enough time went by to recast instead of cpatlizing in chadwick boseman's death and pushing anoying suri to lead.i liked black panther but she was my least favorate part about it and refused to watch wakanda forever due to my stance.
I agree...the situation with Chadwick was so difficult, but I would have really liked them to have recast him. That said, what a really hard thing for the new actor to live up to. So perhaps no one wanted to assume the role for that reason?

I think I heard that they reduced her role, but I think she might still be in it. ofc, if she doesn't play a big part, that might be a good concession on Marvel's part. We'll just have to wait and see. Would have been smarter for them to avoid all of this controversy in the first place, imo.
Yeah, not recasting Chadwick was definitely a controversial decision. It was a was a no win situation. As for Endgame, it takes place in October, 2023 according to the timeline book. Regarding the elections...I don't know that they've ever said one way or another when elections occur in the MCU, but it's been assumed they occur at the same time as irl. ig we'll find out one way or another when the movie arrives. To be fair, Ross was always sort of a background character. His biggest role in the MCU was probably all the way back in the Hulk movie, where he was one of the main antagonists, but after that he mainly did small cameos. Many casual fans probably didn't even notice that it was meant to be the same character when he came back for the Captain America movies. T'Challa instead was a main character and already had a full movie all about him and a second one was in the pipeline, at the time. The characters had very different relevance in the overall story, so a recast for T'Challa would have been perceived a lot differently than a recast for Ross.
Black panther was way more important than Ross in my opinion. Most people don’t even remember Thaddeus Ross but t’challa? If you know anything about marvel you know who black panther is. I agree with both their decisions for both recasts.
FATWS not being required viewing is honestly a really good sign. It was an alright show up until the ham-handed finale. The Dear White People stuff is so over the top. But it had its moments, mostly the chemistry between the two leads which there wasn't nearly enough scenes of.

Great breakdown dude! I’m always in a good mood whenever I see a new video pop up. From my perspective regarding Ritson and Ross, I would like to think that the transfer of power would be in 2027 like you said since I believe that placing the movie all the way to 2029 would be too far. It would be a simple way to explain why Ross is President now don’t get me wrong. I would just love to see Dermot Mulroney as Ritson one last time since he was kind of underused in Secret Invasion. Having Ritson in the beginning announcing his resignation or impeachment and then having Ross step in shortly afterwards works the best for me.

Apart from Sentry, White Widow and USAgent there are no 'replacements' for actual Avengers, like Mac Gargan Venom, Bullseye's Hawkeye, Daken's Wolverine, Ares as Thor figure, Moonstone as Cap Marvel and Iron Patriot as Iron Man and Cap rolled into one were. Doesnt make sense for title to change, if we are going to see actual Thunderbolts and team will evolve into Dark Avengers in the end. Its still a Thunderbolts movie through and through, even if future takes part of the team into different places. I think its something totally different. People excited just for Thunderbolts team would be upset. Its not a smart move. Dark Avengers is at places similiar, but also totally separate thing.

if you look at President Ellis's term (and include Agents of SHIELD), Ellis was President when Cap was unfrozen based on the "Welcome back, Cap" quote at his exhibit, and seemed to still be President in 2017. Which ties into the Phil Coulson is Special Agent Mike Casper from the West Wing theories, because the Presidential elections were offset by 2 years in that series.

I think that Ross is wanting to make another avengers team, that he’s going to attempt to make it without Sam. And with his nickname, maybe they’d joke about calling themselves The Thunderbolts.
But after the movie, to the public they were introduced as The new Avengers (different team), but after whatever happens the news portrays them as the Dark Avengers with how brutal they might make the situation.

Captain America 4 sounds amazing! I also love that it‘s not really too much information so we don‘t really know what to expect. But hearing it will be in the tone of Winter Soldier makes me hyped up. From that Thunderbolts movie I really want to see them fight each other several times and some just watching them fight and enjoy it. (would match to Taskmaster (from the comics) or maybe Ghost)

I really hope we see Bruce show up. It needs to be Sam's movie in the end, but Civil War did a great job of being a Steve Rogers centered movie that still had lots of additional heroes and storylines going at the same time.

Captain America Brave New World needs to take place either in November 2028 or April 2029, the reason that they need to place it in that part of the timeline, is because of Thaddeus Ross mentioning the Presidential Election, and the next one after this year is November 2028.
Yeah, I'm really curious to see if they have a way to explain that line in context with the movie being in early 2027, or if they truly do jump forward nearly 2 years. That would be so wild if they jump ahead that far, but I agree, the line sure seems to indicate that.
I'm excited for all of these movies, it would be cool if the Thunderbolts changed to Dark Avengers that would surprise a lot of people. I heard rumors that She-Hulk and Hulk could appear in Captain America 4 and that would make sense with Red Hulk being involved, i hope they appear it would be cool to see them in action again and they could have interactions with Ross,Betty and Leader. Praying we get a post credit scene teasing a future Hulk project.

Feige saying that the asterix for Thunderbolts will be explained after the movie comes out makes me think that it won't get a title change. Maybe it's something to do with the plot, where the name of the team is uncertain and they call themselves the Thunderbolts as kind of a placeholder.

I think you answered your own question on the asterisk. If Ross wants Cap to rebuild Avengers, money would say Cap says no, leading Ross to start his own team with USAgent as his Captain America. Dark Avengers is probably a very correct assumption.

The Incredible Hulk has always been one of my favourite MCU movie ever. Arguably the best version of the Hulk ever, right up there with Bana's version in 2003. I'm super excited that they're finally acknowledging it, beyond Abomination's return in recent projects.
As for the asterisk in the Thunderbolts logo, that was my first thought too! I think that it's probably a very spoilery title that cannot be revealed until other projects come out first.
Yeah, I'm very excited to see the Hulk return in CA 4. I think having Betty and Thunderbolt Ross both in the movie is a great time to have some much needed reunions between the characters. Man as someone who actually prefers Sam Wilson to Steve Rodgers, a Winter Soldier-esque movie with him, possibly Red hulk, but at least Ross and other Incredible Hulk characters, sounds AMAZING! I really hope this movie lives up to the hype that would be sick.
As for thunderbolts, sorry thunderbolts* they've been doing a lot of interesting things with titles recently, if you look at Agatha and her series. I wouldn't put it past them to change it to dark avengers especially because that does seem to be how the team is rounding out. buuuut, most of the time an asterisk means more information, not that something is going to change. My guess is that the thunderbolts are technically a subdivision of the avengers. This would make sense as to why Bucky is joining along with other seemingly reformed characters, its totally on the books (even if shady) with Val, perhaps shes working with Ross, and would kinda align with the dark avengers theming and why they can't show anything yet. We need to see the new avengers forming before they can tell us that they're a subdivision of that team.

Leader has been put on a cryo preservation like something by shield he's been sleepin in a chamber filled with fluid. it's shown in one of the prelude comics it's happened after incredible hulk when black widow catches him

I don't believe they will name it Dark Avengers because I feel like they would not use the term Avengers before Avengers 5 in a movie title. But I could be wrong and just maybe we already learn more about this in Cap 4 but I doubt it. Think we will have to wait and see Yelena explaining this😅

Personally, I enjoyed most of Phase Four but I did see the problems people had, but the upcoming MCU projects sound really good like Daredevil: Born Again, Deadpool & Wolverine, Captain America: Brave New World, and they will probably revive the MCU Fandom to Phase Three standards.
100% agreed...I think the writer's strike ended up being a good thing for the MCU, as it forced Feige to take a much needed breather since all work stopped and so he was able to really gather his thoughts, fix some issues (such as with the CA 4 reshoots), and retool things in a way that we'll be getting a ton of awesome material in 2025. Can't wait!

I mean, in the comics characters can have an Editorial Name (Spider-Gwen) and a Canonical Name (Spider-Woman, Ghost-Spider). Thunderbolts could be their canonical name, while Dark Avengers is their editorial name. Or vice versa. Or they could canonically be the Avengers but editorially be the Dark Avengers.
Yeah, that idea could definitely work...I like that. I think we'll essentially be getting a mash up of concepts from the Thunderbolts and Dark Avengers, so the movie is looking really good!
I feel like since they announced the film as Thunderbolts* officially it will end up like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier where at the end of the credits it was titled Captain America and the Winter Soldier despite not being titled that in any labels oe posters. Thunderbolts* is the film, but the Dark Avengers might be the team

I feel like/ hope Brave new world is referring to the fact that this isn’t the old mcu anymore. It’s a proper marvel universe with various heroes and villains showing up. As opposed to the previous status quo where it would just be the characters and concept of the movie (so like super soldiers and magic or whatever) but otherwise be basically the real world. Basically the she hulk approach where there’s dozens of random characters and we don’t need an origin story for everyone.

Yes, based on what Mackie said, this movie will be the start of a new direction for the MCU and I do indeed hope that means more team-ups, more villains, etc. That will be a very welcome change, if so. I mean, we have all the characters in place, so now it's time to use them to their fullest and give us alot of team-ups!

I can't remember if it was addressed in the presidents video, but the Blip could be a potential explanation for the odd election date. If everybody returned in 2023 it isn't that far fetched to suggest they held an election (since you know, half of people didn't vote), which would change up the election cycle and put the next election in 2027. Just a thought.

My only problem is him becoming Falcon. In general I don't like it when the next generation of heroes just adopt the same names as the ones before, but at least with Captain America it is a propaganda position. Falcon was literally Sam's nickname or callsign (can't remember which) when he was in the military. It makes no sense for Torres to adopt that name in-universe.

So this is fascinating. Okay so Ellis was very pro superheroes and pro Avengers and he was in office until at least 2013. The natural end of his term would be 2016. If he took over for Obama, he could have been reelected in 2016. If he just replaces Obama, then he leaves in 2016. Well in 2016,Ross is Secretary of State and pushing the Sokovia Accords. To my mind this is an indication that public sentiment towards and against super heroes has changed and it's a controversial topic. This could have led to a change in administration and Ellis was a 1 term president. We don't know who Ross' president was. It couldn't be Ritson. The math on that doesn't work out. But Ritson could be VP. But in either case this has to be the opposite political party to Ellis. Okay so Mystery President holds from 2016-2020 (unless he dusted,that's something to think about!) but midway through that term, the Blip happens. I have to imagine that party was looked at disfavorably by a lot of the Blip survivors. Like united the Avengers could have stopped Thanos but you forced them to break up. So that president does not win re-election. Somebody from Ellis' party does. But then in 2023, the Blip ends. Now Falcon and Winter Soldier tells us that national borders were basically done away with because countries needed to cooperate to survive,refugees moved,etc. The Hulk snap brought everyone back. And now the countries go back to their old ways,enforcing borders and working against and not trusting each other. In this environment Ritson wins the election. The U.S. has to go back to being strong against its enemies. But something happens to Ritson. He is either assassinated or impeached early in the movie (or it happens offscreen, more likely). And Ross is now president. His party still has majority support but he is going about it differently than Ritson. Instead of openly antagonizing, he is more about shadow moves like have U.S. backed Avengers. That's my best guess.
Since the Netflix shows were canonised, that means Trump was President at least from 2016-2018. So I'm assuming it's Obama 2008-2012, Ellis 2012-2016, Trump 2016-2018, Blip Government (whatever form that took) 2018-2023, then Ritson and Ross at some point that we can't nail down yet.

If Trump was blipped did Clinton or Biden perhaps win in a special blip election and then was Trump irritated he wasn't president when he returned in 2023? Great feedback! I am slowly but surely making my way through the Defenders shows since they were canonized. So far I have only seen Jessica Jones in its entirety and half of Iron Fist.If Trump is mentioned as president I don't know where it appears. I think your previous video about the presidents did say it happened in Luke Cage. That does close the first question I had. I have had time to think about it and I have 2 more points. First off the Smithsonian exhibit does have a quote from President Ellis saying "Welcome back Cap!" Presumably this was after the return of Steve became public knowledge in the Battle of New York. This would have been in the summer of 2012 well before the election. Therefore Ellis had to be president at the time. I forgot about this because the exhibit isn't seen until Winter Soldier happens. Iron Man 3 also bears out this reasoning because Killian was dodging the president''s research ban on Extremis for years at that point. So to my reasoning Obama was never president (unless he is mentioned somewhere I don't remember, I need to rewatch the presidents video!) To my second point I don't think they are going to say Trump dusted or even mention Trump in MCU proper because I doubt that Marvel wants to invoke him. Regardless of how we feel about him personally and everyone is entitled to their opinions,it would be probably be seen as some kind of political commentary to do so. Even saying Trump dusted would probably risk offending some fans. If he didnt dust speculating on what he might have done during the Blip is equally problematic as is predicting his actions should the Blip have interrupted his presidency.This is why I prefer having fictional presidents. It's just safer! I think Marvel will never confirm or deny this.

Question, did you get the feeling that the eternals are gonna be involved in the big events in the future ? Secret wars, etc… originally their mission prevented them from interfering with human conflicts but after the whole tiumet thing I’m assuming they’d do everything they can to protect the planet, otherwise why stop the celestial from blowing the planet to bits? Yeah, I'd love to see them start popping up in lots of places. We've seen Kingo's posters appearing in a few places (such as Loki season 2) and so having the team return would be great. I could see them appearing in Thor 5 as well. That's a great place to resolve some of their storylines from their first movie.

Also I kind of hope they use this film to make people like she hulk a bit more. Im a sucker for getting previously not liked things to be a bit more liked (like bad batch and Mando putting the how into “somehow palpatine returned”) and with the hulk blood links between this movie (the leader) and she hulk I think they could get her into this and hopefully to be a bit more likeable. And then it could show her, Sam and some others (eg shang chi) forming the new earth avengers.

11:42 Just had a light bulb moment: in the absence of the real Avengers, the Dark Avengers will become the primary superhero team of the world, but as we'll see, they do not stand for the same values as the Avengers we know. They're destructive, irratic, brash, and the people will hate them and push for the Avengers team they've been missing even more. Finally the real Avengers will be formed (Sam, Shuri, She Hulk, whoever) and will have a face off with the Dark Avengers team and take their place as the world's hero team. A Civil War 2 event. Avengers vs Dark Avengers.

The Winter Soldier was such a good movie, so if Cap 4 is similar to it, I’m really looking forward to it. However, I don’t understand why a Captain America movie is basically a sequel to the Hulk movie. Hopefully, the writers will explain any necessary information via dialogue and won’t assume the audience already knows what happened.
Yeah, it is a concern that there is so much going on in the movie, but I'm guessing that they have gotten it all figured out and that it will all fit together nicely in the end. Perhaps that was the reason for some of the reshoots. Maybe they had to condense the story abit to make it all work.

Thunderbolts Part One !!

Looking forward to this movie. Cool how is seems to be a mixture of Captain America and hulk storyline coming together like how civil war was a Captain America/ avengers movie. And really they have a lot in common because there were Easter eggs ever since incredible hulk. Saying they were trying to replicate the super soldier program with abomination and the deleted scene where hulk hulking out in the Arctic helped shield find Captain America's body etc.... But I guess this is as good of a place as any to add: I did not like falcon and the winter soldier as much as I wanted. Obviously the main actors did great. Action especially falcon flying through the Grande canyon ( or whatever that was supposed to be) fighting fighter planes was great. And love seeing GSP back as batroc. Big UFC fan. But the story was really hurting. Main issue was they tried to humanize/ feel sorry for terrorists bombing innocent people. Idk if it was the actress or just thinking about that concept just seems so evil to me. Because yes villains have been humanized plenty of times before and even pure evil villains have the charisma where you love to hate them. Darth Vader, kingpin, joker, Thanos, etc etc into eternity. But she was very unlikable and I feel like the writers wanted you to be on the terrorist side. Just felt really off. Almost like the writers are evil terrorists themselves...I kid but do I really... And the whole bad Captain America killing the terrorist and that was supposed to make people in the terrorists side... Uuuummmm no. Blood on the should is bad symbolism. But come on now cap killed Nazis in WW2. What makes this fake cap killing evil terrorists any different? Pretty sure they wanted a " police brutality" sort of imagery... But do the writers understand what soldiers do? Army, Navy, Marines are not held to the same standards as cops as in no reading their rights before taking them out. Kinda in the mind set of punisher. I love the mentality of punisher because even though it's not PTSD, he Even tells that in court, it is more philosophical than that. The government gives an 18 year old a gun. License to kill. Point at a target and no remorse over casualties. Punisher finds the scum of the Earth puts them in his cross hairs and he cares about making sure there are no casualties. Who's really the bad guy here? Government said to do it? It's a ok. He takes it upon his self with his morals and he's villainized. The government didn't use morals when telling him who to take out. But he is. But anyway that's allot better writing then terrorists are redeemable because reasons ( but imo giving no reasons) I get it punisher is an anti hero and not villain so it's sort of apples and oranges. But I feel like the writers wanted her to be an anti hero how they framed it. Did not work to an offensive level.
I think you aren't alone in not liking FATWS as much as you wanted to. I liked it myself, but I know a lot of people weren't satisfied. And I definitely agree that the Flagsmasher storyline was my biggest issue as well. I think that's probably why Mackie was saying that Brave New World won't require watching FATWS first, meaning it won't tie into that storyline very much. But I do like the idea that Brave New World is going to be similar to the Winter Soldier movie. That's one of my favorites and it was very grounded and had amazing action. So I think they learned the right lessons and I'm hoping Brave New World will be awesome. Fingers crossed!

That's a cool explanation. I like that. I've also heard people say that Kahorri used her "space stone" powers to create a tiny barrier around Peggy's hand so that she wasn't directly touching the stones. So that might work, too. I like that there are a few ways to make it work and avoid the plot hole.

Yeah, it was definitely a tough choice for Marvel to decide what to do. Ross was a great character and Hurt was a great actor, but the impact Chadwick had on the world was so massive. So I think Marvel feared it would look like they were diminishing Chadwick's death to recast him so soon. But I do kinda wish they had gone that direction anyway.

And there really is no reason why continuing the character of T'challa would diminish Chadwick's contribution, as is was with Bruce Wayne, Barry Allen, Charles Xavier etc.. Plus, Shuri is an amazing character in the comics in her own right, she didn't need to carry the burden of the Panther. Anyway...

Right...in Shang Chi it was definitely a loose team, but I do wonder if it was a real team since several months later in Eternals we learn they still didn't have a team leader and also in Far From Home even Talos didn't know where the Avengers were. So I suspect they still informally spoke to each other, but weren't meeting regularly. Just my theory though...hopefully we learn more in the movie.

Great theory...yeah, Rick Flag's death was such a shock in that movie, so you could be right that in addition to lots of other deaths (I love Red Guardian, but I could see him dying as well as at least one more of the other members of the team) I could also see either Bucky or Yelena dying. Bucky has been shown in the promo photos for Thunderbolts, so I think he's in the movie for sure...but I agree that it seems odd at first. But I wonder if he's recruited by Val since he likely can't get a job doing much else, due to the fact that the public might not have forgiven him for all he did. Will be interesting to see how they explain it when the movie arrives!

I agree...the situation with Chadwick was so difficult, but I would have really liked them to have recast him. That said, what a really hard thing for the new actor to live up to. So perhaps no one wanted to assume the role for that reason?

Yep, your reasoning for not going makes alot of sense. I do wonder if some of the reshoots have either lessened or even removed the role of Sabra. We'll have to see. I think it would be a smart move on their part to do that, with all that's going on.
@@AbitofEverything4U i really wish that were the case but i feel like we would’ve heard about that by now. if my memory serves me correct, when the reshoots were happening we learned that they removed serpent society from the movie, so if they did the same with sabra, i think we would’ve heard around the same time.
I think I heard that they reduced her role, but I think she might still be in it. ofc, if she doesn't play a big part, that might be a good concession on Marvel's part. We'll just have to wait and see. Would have been smarter for them to avoid all of this controversy in the first place, imo.

Yeah, not recasting Chadwick was definitely a controversial decision. It was a was a no win situation. As for Endgame, it takes place in October, 2023 according to the timeline book. Regarding the elections...I don't know that they've ever said one way or another when elections occur in the MCU, but it's been assumed they occur at the same time as irl. ig we'll find out one way or another when the movie arrives. To be fair, Ross was always sort of a background character. His biggest role in the MCU was probably all the way back in the Hulk movie, where he was one of the main antagonists, but after that he mainly did small cameos. Many casual fans probably didn't even notice that it was meant to be the same character when he came back for the Captain America movies. T'Challa instead was a main character and already had a full movie all about him and a second one was in the pipeline, at the time. The characters had very different relevance in the overall story, so a recast for T'Challa would have been perceived a lot differently than a recast for Ross.
Black panther was way more important than Ross in my opinion. Most people don’t even remember Thaddeus Ross but t’challa? If you know anything about marvel you know who black panther is. I agree with both their decisions for both recasts.
Ross's character is nowhere near as important as T'challa.

FATWS not being required viewing is honestly a really good sign. It was an alright show up until the ham-handed finale. The Dear White People stuff is so over the top. But it had its moments, mostly the chemistry between the two leads which there wasn't nearly enough scenes of.
I agree...I think it's a very smart move to make the movie stand on its own. I liked FATWS, but I think that it could dissuade people from watching the movie if they feel they have to go watch that series first. Really looking forward to CA 4!
That is a bold statement from Mackie for sure. Making the movie new fan friendly is good progress on Marvel's part but very Winter Soldier-like you say? That's a statement that I wonder how truthful that will be. Like is it only kind of like Winter Soldier or is it just really like Winter Soldier? That's the question. Well we know he'll become Red Hulk no doubt but also you mention the timeline keeper Drew but we know it's really you, haha. But also the rebuilding of the Avengers is ... yeah that's wild. On the flip side it really feels like the general public just assume the Avengers are still an active team or something given Kamala's line and the other lines. Didn't know about Isaiah, that's gonna be really cool. The other details are interesting for sure. On the subject of Dark Avengers, I hope we eventually get characters like Ares considering we recently got Hercules, just more of that pantheon would be great.
He means its winter soldier like in the sense that the trailer didnt tell you hydra was defecting or who the villain of the movie even was - alexander pierce.
Yeah, hyping this to be like Winter Soldier was a bold move. Really hoping it pays off! And I agree, I'd love to see more of the Dark Avengers showing up in the MCU. Perhaps the Thunderbolts is just the start of things to come!
