    Clear instructions for a great improvement without going too far for non-gearheads. Thanks.

      Thanks for the kind works. I got sucked up into this as a hobby and for a while spent most of my spare time doing something with fishing reels. MOSTLY ABU ROUND. I planned to do more videos and just never got around to it but have been recently inspired by another subscriber. I hope to do something this weekend and hopefully more in the future. Keep an eye open. Have a great day.

    I’ve got a 5500C and wanted to replace the stock bearings with Boca Bearings. They emailed me back asking for the ID, OD, measurements in MMs. Any idea what that part number cross reference is from the stock# to the Boca bearing#? Thanks for your help.

      I’ll take a look after I get off work. Is the original bearing oval or flat on the outside edge.

    First I would watch videos on how to do it. With that said the drag washers are on the handle side of the reel. If you have a left handed reel the threads are backwards so be careful. If you decide to replace them make sure you get carbon washers. Some people run them dry but most like to grease them as do I. Makes them smoother. It requires a special grease as well. You should be able to get that info off TH-cam. Good luck.

    I have a 5500C reel that was made in 1974, do you know what size that clip is,because you can pick them up at lowes or any good hardware store.

    Buy forty or fifty of these reels over the last ten years--I have yet to see one of these with the plastic ridge retainer. ALL mine use a screw to retain the cog. These reels vary in age from a few years to mid fifties--many of them are pre 1964---yet none them have this feature. Go figure.

      Very interesting. Very few and I mean VERY FEW have I've seen with the screw. And most are early models. Thanks for the comment. Happy new year!

    Hi good job!! Im also having issues with the clicker exact same symptoms.. how did you fix it? Clickers engaging coming in not going out..

    • @abugarciareelrepairandmain8684
      @abugarciareelrepairandmain8684  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure how to answer the question without more detail. I did not fix a clicker but was trying to help someone with that problem. If you could send me a picture and tell me the model # that would be a good start. Most of the time problems start with dirt and grease build up. You can have too much grease on things.

    • @abugarciareelrepairandmain8684
      @abugarciareelrepairandmain8684  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steven Sarnecki it's the same clip that goes under the handle nut. You can get the part # from the schematic off the ABU web site. Then go to eBay for the part.

    what about the clicker? I can not find a video that shows maintance to the clicker on the reel? I have an Ambassadeur 7500 C Chrome finish with a non functioning clicker?

    • @abugarciareelrepairandmain8684
      @abugarciareelrepairandmain8684  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of the time that type of failure is due to dirt and corrosion build up. Send me a picture of the reel showing the model and I'll look at the schematics. If you have it apart take a picture of the inside as well.

    • @Shanedog76

      well model is Ambassadeur 7500 C I cleaned things inside greased and oiled parts, put it back together and clicker won't work? but I may of put the clicker back together wrong?, can you do a video on the clicker maintenance?,what the spring inside the reel for the click attaches to?, and how would I send you a photo on here anyway? directly to you? I only own a Home PC so I'm confused?

    • @abugarciareelrepairandmain8684
      @abugarciareelrepairandmain8684  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shane Dahlke you can text me a picture at 757-297-6084 I suspect that the little arm on the end of the mechanism may be pointed in the wrong direction it needs to be pointed towards the center of the plate I have seen where the arm can get out of position

    • @abugarciareelrepairandmain8684
      @abugarciareelrepairandmain8684  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shane Dahlke in my video if you freeze frame it the little arm is pointing away from the center so that needs to be swiveled back over towards the center then when you assemble the sideplate the clicker should be in the office position when you put the plate on

    • @Shanedog76
      @Shanedog76 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm understanding more now and I did as you said, after trying I can only hear a very soft clicking noise because the arm is not against the plastic gear enough? I'm getting closer to figuring this problem out?

    • @abugarciareelrepairandmain8684
      @abugarciareelrepairandmain8684  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I assume you are talking about the "C" clip. This is the same clip that goes on the main drive shaft after you install the handle. Part # is 4490. Hope this helps thanks for watching. You can see all the reel schematics at the following link. www.abugarcia.com/pages/abugarcia-reel-schematics
      All over eBay. The shipping kills you, so I usually buy 5 or more at a time. See them here.

    In the mechanic field we call that c-clip the "Jesus Clip". He's the only one that knows where it went. You'll even ask him... Jesus Christ, where'd that go?

    Should there be a spring between the base of claw and its cap?

    • @abugarciareelrepairandmain8684

      Not sure what you mean by the base of the claw.

    • @temmiful2
      @temmiful2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@abugarciareelrepairandmain8684 sorry, i meant the space between claw and cap. Should there be a string that pushes the claw towards worm screw.

    • @abugarciareelrepairandmain8684
      @abugarciareelrepairandmain8684  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      NO SPRING! When you insert the pawl you need to wiggle it so that it will seat in the worm gear. Then put the cap back on.

      Michael Wilver something went wrong this works I have done this to all my reels and I’ve received comments from others that love it. Maybe you left some of the plastic ring on the cog that is rubbing against the clip. The other thing I do is to ream out the hole at the top where the clip is to make sure there is no left over plastic. I use a ice pick for that. Look at it close this does work.

    • @michaelwilver4914

      Garrett Garcia The part number is 4409. I buy mine off eBay. Just search Abu 4409 and you will see several listings. They run about $1.25 and the shipping is $3 so I usually buy more than one to absorb the cost of shipping. Still trying to get to the video. Work is killing me and we just went through the storm..
