Loved the Doves Cry beat - one of my favorites of all time - excellent breakdown

5:37 Prince figured all that out sooo long ago. The man was special. It's too bad more people didn't realize just how special Prince was until it was too late. There will never be another like him. He was easily in the top 25 greatest guitar players of all-time. Easily.

In the Beautiful Ones, the clap isn't in there. That's a rim shot tuned down. It's in When Doves Cry as well but you didn't tune down the rimshot for that door knock sound. You had it right on Dorothy Parker

It sounds nice with the clap though 🤔🤔🤔🤔

On “let’s pretend we’re married” it’s not a tom, it was a cowbell tuned down

    There isn't a clap. It's a Rim Shot instead.

I'm gonna comment something here that might sound negative but I promise it's supposed to be encouraging... It's wild to me that you (whoever you are) would dedicate so much time producing such a cool breakdown, but then not spend a single second engaging with these comments 🤔 you (whoever you are) have so many fellow music nerds expressing appreciation for this profound knowledge but then it took over a year for someone like me (whoever I am;) to come along and take 3 seconds to 👍 like everyone's comments at the very least...
It just seems like if you're passionate about this stuff (which clearly you are) that you would also want to boost your algorithm a little bit more and engage with the few people who took time out of their day to reciprocate said passion.
    Just a thought ♡

@@ace_woe No worries, that’s definitely a fair criticism! This project was something that I tried to do for a few years, with the most active period from 2020 to the summer of 2021. Since then, it’s been a bit of a dead channel. Most of the more recent videos (including this one) were made as Patreon exclusives during that period and released publicly a year after the official closing of the Patreon.
Admittedly, even when the project was active, I didn’t engage as much as I should’ve, but I was a little better then haha. Nowadays, I try to answer any synth questions that I see, but don’t really respond to general comments. Anyway, just wanted to explain myself a bit and say that it’s honestly super heartwarming to see that people are still finding value in these videos.
Thanks so much for watching! :)

@thatbeet That makes sense, as I perused your channel I got the feeling that maybe you were less active here &/or spending time doing other things-which is fair-but I personally would love to see more content like this & was truly beyond impressed. As a drummer/producer, as a vinyl/sample enthusiast and as someone who loves Prince thru-&-thru 👑
Best of luck with whatever you do moving forward 🫡

@@ace_woe Thanks so much! I would love to post again one day, but it’s unfortunately much tougher now to find the time haha. I had one video idea (about the evolution of sound chips in early game consoles) that I kicked around for years. I also really want to do a revamp of the Synth Fundamentals series as a single all-in-one reference video, since the concepts are a little scattered in the current format. Hopefully, one day I can find the time to put those together haha.

This would have been a very interesting video, but the examples are far to short to fully experience what techniques he used. Now it's rather 'see what I know' than 'see how it works'. Delay, tuning down and creating accents in the first song all get (less than)1 second, 2 at the most. "Show, don't tell" would be my advice.
