      @@antibirders4061 No external effects. The sound is direct from the MicroKorg. The only effects are the MicroKorg’s internal delay and chorus (for the echo and to add a little thickness, respectively). I have a patch tutorial video on my channel that demonstrates how the patch is constructed, if you’re interested. It breaks down the original McCartney patch (which does not use delay) and a modified version with delay.

    I use a tone generator as an external oscillator for my ringmodulator pedal. What kind of modulation will I have If I introduce a possitive DC offset?

    • @thatbeet
      @thatbeet 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@MYGAS21 I’m a bit confused by the wording but, if I’m reading it right, I could see two possible outcomes. First case, the DC offset pushes the modulator signal equal to or above the zero point, so it acts as a unipolar modulator. In this case, it would function as traditional AM (C, M, C+M, and C-M are present). If the offset isn’t sufficient to push the modulator above zero, I’m not 100% sure what would happen. I’d imagine trad AM with weaker C and M frequencies, but strange things can happen at audio rates haha. You could test it out with a couple of sine waves and see what comes out. Try something like 300Hz and 500Hz so the sidebands would be 200Hz and 800Hz. If it’s RM, you’ll hear the same note two octaves apart; if it’s AM, you’ll hear a ratio-tuned triad with the root doubled an octave up. If possible, vary the DC offset in real time to see how it affects the sound.

    • @MYGAS21
      @MYGAS21 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@thatbeet AM is what I suspected it would turn into. Yes this is what I was implying when I asked "what kind of modulation". I wasn't shure though. Thanks for the responce. I think its important to know I can turn my Ring modulator into an Amplitude modulator just by feeding it an only positive, above DC signal and possibly as you pointed out, be able to maybe use a partially offset sound. As you probably know Ring modulators produce interesting timbres but because the original signals are gone they aren't very musical. And the act of mixing in the unprocessed sound of the guitar doesn't appeal to me either: the result seems wimpy to me. So I'm searching for solutions involving fully processed sounds that have musicality without losing the timbre magic. I haven't tried this AM through offset thing yet, so we will see how that goes. ..........BUT your responce gave me a brain storm type idea (= through word association when you wrote "root doubled an octave up"): ....that the reason the dry guitar sound + Ring modulated mix usually sounds wimpy is because the 2 sounds are so different, the mind just reads them as two seperate things. BUT what if I introduce the original guitar signal, pitch shifted up or/and down to the octave the sidebands are in? This proximity could allow the mind to perceive the two sounds as a unit. If this works it is a game changer for me. SO I can't thank you enough for your responce. Again: THANKS!

    • @thatbeet
      @thatbeet 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ That could definitely be interesting! If you do the pitch shifting as post-processing and include some pitch correction, you could even use that as a way to generate new melodies since the relation between signals/sidebands is mathematically predictable but musically unusual (related linearly instead of exponentially/multiplicatively like most harmonic content). Setting the tone generator in the same frequency range as the guitar part can keep the stronger sidebands more clustered to your original signal. And, if the DC offset trick works, you can also adjust the volume of sidebands with the amplitude of the modulator if you want something more subtle that blends with your original signal. Hope you find the sound you’re looking for! Thanks for reaching out :)

      @@thatbeet Post processing? You mean in a DAW? I roll DAWless at the moment. So I used a parallel mixer (the OUROBOROS by BRIMESTONE) put the clean with a pitchshifter up an octave before a gain+EQ double pedal, on one channel and the WARM AUDIO RingerBringer before a bandpass filter on the other. And then put everything in the effects loop of the EHX ATTACK DECAY to further glue things with a common envelope. Its a start.

    This kind of testing with terrible fake timbre, looking at intervals in a vacuum and not in real music yields the kind of deep confusion about intonation as you are promoting in these videos. Also at 4:28, you are playing a 3-limit Bb yet you are calling it an A#. A# in Pythagoren tuning is above the 12 tet version. If you would like to test intonation it must be with good and realistic timbres and in real musical context. Testing them in different musical scenarios. You cannot limit yourself to 12 notes either, spelling and the subsequent tuning is essential. ou cannot make the mistake of calling a Bb, and A#. You need to know when to use A#, and when to use Bb. This goes for all enharmonic notes; they are not interchangeable. The reason I am so irritated by videos like this one, is that what you are teaching is convincing enough for people who don't know better, and by it, you are robbing them of making good music and robbing others from listening to that good music which will never be made. 5 limit tuning, on top of sounding out of tune, is not practical, 12 tet is practical but only a poor approximation of True Intonation, and no intervals save the octave are pure, and even that is not the case on octave stretched pianos. Only True Intonation (3- limit tuning with notes and chords spelled correctly and tuned according to their spelling and placement in the chain of 3/2 fifths), is both practical and fully in tune, both harmonically and melodically at once.

  • @RememberGodHolyBible
    @RememberGodHolyBible 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    What you said at 2:22 is a complete lie, that everyone seems to chant on repeat, I believe because there is witchcraft around the topic to keep everyone playing out of tune. The 81/64 is the just major third in real music, the 5/4 is simply the 5th harmonic. Check out the examples on my channel, sheet music on screen with audio, all with the 81/64 major third, it is not only passable, but fully in tune and ideal and just, even in chords. The 5/4 is terribly flat and creates an incoherent system of pitches that is not musical nor practical when put through its paces and tested in many musical scenarios. Pythagorean just intonation, what I call True Intonation, is perfectly in tune, so long as you spell notes and chords correctly according to their proper placement on the chain of 3/2 perfect fifths; and it is totally practical even on acoustic keyboards and guitars. If you can overcome the lie of the 5/4 major third, you will already be ahead of myriad of other musicians. True Intonation is how man naturally hears music. It is perfectly understandable to our brains, with all octaves being the powers of 2 , and all pitch classes being all the powers of 3. Thas's it. Adding 5's, 7's, or higher prime limits, does not add anything to your system except confusion and incoherence. This video is utter confusion. First, you are using terrible fake sounding computerized timbre, to try and make the 81/64 sound bad, when in natural sounding timbres it sounds wonderful. And even with the awful harsh timbre you used to demonstrate it, it still sounds better than the 5/4, so you had to put a sick emoji over it to convince people that it is bad. Videos such as this make me sick, truly. Pythagorean thirds are pretty much unusable? Look at the songs on my channel. You have been lied to, and you have brainwashed yourself and then passed that on to others through this video. And all of the people who do not know any better, are praising you for it. Listen I get it, I was duper by the 5/4 trap for 9 years before my ears were opened and my understanding enlightnened. But you really need to study a lot, and remove this video, it is totally wrong, and you are leading many musicians down a path in which they will never understand tuning or the inner workings of music. And will never have the joy of making music that is in tune and listening to music that is in tune. I know that what you are saying is what the whole world preaches, but it is still very wrong. As someone who teaches, you are obligated to know what you are talking about. And if you make a grevious error such as this, you should make a follow up video correcting the error. The 17 note vicinity teaching is important to understand. True Intonation Gb through to A# in a chain of fifths in C major. All these notes can appear in C major and its relative modes wihtout demanding the ear to hear that the key has changed or without it sounding out of tune. There are not 12 notes in western music, there are 17 per tonic chord, per octave. 7 diatonic notes, 5 flats from the undertone series and 5 sharps from the overtone series. This is what is displayed in sheet music, and this is what sounds the best to listeners. 12 tet is approximating True Intonation (Pythagorean), and its major thirds are too FLAT, not too sharp. If you are having trouble hearing the 81/64 as in tune (as was the case for me), this may help: really try and listen horizontally, that is, listen to each voice in every chord, moving from one note to the next, all while SIMULTANEOUSLY listening vertically to the harmony in a given instance of time during real music with realistic good timbres. This is how a man holistically listens to music before he is conditioned to only listen to intonation in the vertical access in a given moment irrespective to what came before or what will come after, not experienceing and checking the music over time. Music happens over TIME. It is not an isolated interval or chord. It is ordered sound over time, and the intonation must be checked and judged in respect of time. The listening must be reawakened to this horizontal dimension of listneing, not just chord moving to chord, but every voice in every chord moving to the next, and then the next, and the next notes. This may be difficult to do if you have been interested in intonation for a long time and have long time believed the 5/4 to be the just major third in music. But once that part of your listening becomes active again, all of a sudden it will just click. And 3 limit will sound not only usable but perfectly in tune both harmonically and melodically. Likewise the 5 limit tuning will be difficult to hear as in tune after that. The good thing about this is: True Intonation IS practical on acoustic instruments in EVERY key, even on keyboards and guitars, with full ability to modulate freely, anywhere. The 5/4 and men believing it as the major third, has led to all temperaments and alleged paradoxes in tuning, and ultimately basically all music being totally out of tune..

Naive is the right term to use, because I’ve since learnt that Sugar Hill weren’t particularly ethical in their dealings with some of their own artists, so why would do the right thing by a small label with little money/backing to prosecute. @@mildred714 MIDI from TR08 into the SH01a. This makes the SH’s internal sequencer sync to the TR08’s clock.

    Your comment at the end about biological preference was great. Do you have any related ideas regarding the common saying that "harmonics are found in nature"? In that there is something "natural" that causes the harmonic series to arise as a phenomenon outside of possible human preference for patterns, and potentially a bias towards simpler patterns which are more readily identified?

      Yeah, the simplicity/pattern recognition argument could make sense. Even with melodies, we tend to be drawn to the smaller, neater packets of information and have to develop a taste for sprawling, complex melodies. I start to get wary of arguments when they bring math in as a reason for the preference. It’s sort of backwards to me. Math is a simplification of patterns that we pulled from the world around us, not something natural in itself. Its a language constructed to describe something real, not the real thing. So it would be like saying the brain has a natural preference for colors that start with the letter “g” hahah.
