Interesting to hear of others besides Bill Gross who did such a thing with their millions. If I ever win the Powerball I will attempt the same thing with Australia.
Unfortunately the true value is only what someone will pay you for it. If it appraises for $25 million but you can’t find a buyer, then unfortunately it just isn’t worth that much (not at this time, anyway). It is sad to know something’s appraised value and then have to decide what you might settle for (or hold out and hope to find a buyer).
an old uncle passed away and somehow we inherited his stamp collection. I have no idea what to do with them. I'm talking hundreds of stamps. They're like different collections of stamps. How would I find a stamp expert to give me an estimate or tell me what stamps are rare?

He sell the hole colection but not in one Auction. I think the buyout will go for 3 or 4 times. The cplt colection is to expensive and so IT could be that a buyer had at time not enough money to buy more Stamps. But He will make his money! Sometimes the Offiziell Post Office buy some stamps bc they had not this stamps in their own colection and that is Canadian Posthistory.
The Canada 2c Large Queen on laid paper that Ron Brigham said was worth more than 800 thousand dollars sold for $475,000 CAD ( plus a 15 percent buyer’s premium ) at The Brigham Collection Auction of Feb 22 2014

Alan Holyoake, a very wealthy businessman, spent millions assembling one of the finest collections ever seen. He only took 9 years to do it. He entered it in the 2010 London exhibition and won top prize for his exhibition of 1d Blacks and 2d Blues. It included no less than 5 1d Black 1st Day Covers. I believe he then sold some or even most of his collection as he had achieved what he wanted to. I couldn't' do that.
Fantastic! I collect stamps since I am 8 years old (age8). I now collect China and Hong-Kong. It has grown, obviously, as a passion. Great stamps. I love errors. I have a couple iof errors n China, but not woth a lot.
I think he didn't spend that much money. But one thing is for sure, only money brings together such a collection. I don't have the money for such a collection and if I had, I would not spend it on stamps, even when I am a collector (Netherlands, German Empire). Greetings from the Čech Republic 🇨🇿 and stay healthy 😷.
Stamps aren't worth much in 2023. No one cares anymore I believe. Maybe Canada has some specialists, but everyone under 50 is into Star Wars and comics. Coins are of some value, but counterfeiting is rampant.
Since this article appeared 5 or more years ago, what are some of the highlights of the sale?
