My grandmother was a post master, and have inherited her massive stamp collection, books, envelopes from countries all over the world, full sheets. This video is very informative. Thank you!
My husbands grandma was a stamp counter at US post office at Union Station in KC MO. He was left with a collection of stamps that now I'm trying to learn how much they are worth, sell them etc.. We figure we are almost 50 yrs old so I'll be selling his collection from his inheritance within the next yr, and then we can enjoy the benefits instead of holding on to them. I know nothing about stamps n coins so now my goal is to learn all I can, cause as you know we are talking about money, and his grandma collected what she knew that was gonna hold and bring value.
I have my Father’s collection as well as my philatelic pieces. His contained much of WWII including Germany with Hitler and overprints of other nations in Europe as well as well as many other nations throughout the world. Mine was pretty much strictly United States 🇺🇸. Thank you for the informative show.

We've inherited a box full of stamps, similar to how you mentioned, many torn off envelopes but some have been organised, but want to organise them and put in correct places and hopefully learn a bit about them. Is there any book or album that will help to organise.
I’ve got my grandmothers collection and I’ve got some of the stamps that I’ve seen on these videos from the 1800s on and some of them are selling for several hundred dollars. How can I tell if mine are the same as the ones that are selling
I was flagged to this page by Stanley Gibbons. Are you able to do a valuation on the COMPLETE set of PHQ cards up until 2023 when my husband (the collector) passed away,. I also have the Year books Royal Mail Special Stamps, books 1 through to 30 complete with all the mint stamps and in their original sleeves? If this is a possibility, can I email you privately and give you more details and photos please?
Sad to say they are worth very little now and most certainly a lot less than he paid for them. The mint stamps hold most of the value and are worth about 60% of their postage face value. The first 3 year books from 1984 to 1986 do have a little more value though. PHQ cards have been hard to even give away in recent years but I have noticed a slight upturn in the market in the last year or two. But they are still hard to sell except very cheaply. The first 9 in the series up to early 1975 are scarcer though and are quite desirable so can attract some interest. Dealers are not interested in such material though as they take up valuable space being bulky to store and are hard to sell. If you really want to sell them for the best price without much effort on your part, I highly recommend selling them to what will probably be a collector at an established and well respected auction. There are many to choose from, some more reputable than others. I highly recommend Corbitts based in Newcastle as I have bought and sold thousands of pounds worth of stamps from them over the last 15 years and have found them a pleasure to deal with. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
I certainly agree that the vast majority of collections can be valued on gut feeling with only a casual flick through. Better collections need a much more detailed inspection though. In just the few seconds we are given of each collection we are shown. I had fun guessing what my valuation of it would be if I had a couple of minutes to look instead of the few seconds of each here. The first collection is only worth a few pence and nothing like the £20 mentioned. The second album showed useful oddments from China and Belgium suggesting there could be some value overall and my estimate is £30. The stamps in the envelope worthless. The cigar box has some older stamps but poor condition so probably under a pound. The scattering of 20 random covers shown are probably worth about £5 but have potential to hold something of more value so worth checking more carefully. The album shown with early GB on first page is probably worth about £150 with the pages shown and the narrative given but has the potential to be more if I could look at it properly. However the 1d black with 3 margins is only worth about half of the valuation given of £50. This collection could be sold at auction with an estimate of £100 to £200 but could fetch more depending on what else is hidden in its pages.
Yes we do hire and require specialists to help with our auctions. Please keep an eye on our careers page: www.stanleygibbons.com/about-us/join-our-team
Hello, Thank you for your interest we have a form that you can fill in at Baldwins.co baldwins.co/en-GB/sell The guide on this page will tell you everything on how to get started.
Excellent presentation. I started collecting a year ago and have lots of the older stamps from all over the world. I'm overwhelmed with my new hobby when l get time. Thank you for sharing 🌞
Stanley Gibbons is a pick the best leave the rest type of company . Them and baldwins only want to sell things at highly inflated prices . They think that people with lower budgets aren't worth dealing with . It's not a good thing for the hobby to have gatekeepers . They only want exspensive stuff not realy botherd about collecting just a numbers game .
😂 may I suggest Adderall? The music is lovely it does not bother me at all. I find myself resisting the urge to speak with an accent after this video, but the music is fine. 😂
