Athrun for all seed series except for one manga series that tells the story from his perspective, is more or less secondary to build up the main cast's character. Yet also a very popular character in gundam.
I really don't think *Gundam* is the show for you; you tend to ignore everything and instead enforce your own beliefs, completely ignoring the bigger picture or the full story. When Athrun pulled a knife and you complained that it was pointless and that he wasn't superhuman, you completely ignored everything you were told about Coordinators simply because you couldn't look past your own understanding of genetic manipulation. Flay literally had a whole episode explaining how dangerous Lacus was simply because she was a Coordinator. The idea behind Coordinators is a body capable of greater strength and a mind capable of more knowledge; Coordinators are not peak human, they surpass human-that's why their existence is such a big problem. For example, Mu said that the original pilots for the Gundams could barely get them to move, this is because the OS was designed to be used by Naturals,, unfortunately the Gundams are too complex of a machine for such an operating system, you could get around this by using AI to handle the more complex operations, but that's not what Kira and the other are doing, they are basically acting as the computer, that why Mu can't pilot the Strike, he can't operate on the same level as a computer. The purpose of enjoying fiction is to escape from reality, stop trying to drag reality back in
