Kanan was the living proof that a Jedi can have attachments and still has balance within the Force. He died protecting his love ones like a true Jedi.

All Jedi have attachments. It's what emotions do, they attach to and give context to our experience.
What matters is that a Jedi is able to check their emotions and ultimately let go of their attachments when it comes time to do what needs to be done for the greater good of others, even if it comes at the cost of their own lives.
And that is what Kanan did. There was nothing for him to prove, other than the lesson of what we do for others being greater than what we get from them.

@@lordofd7111 But the Jedi Order during the Clone Wars or Galactic Republic didn't teach that. Only Luke's New Jedi Order Legends did.

    • @lordofd7111

@@memecliparchives2254 Yes they did. It just wasn't presented in a very nuanced way, because by the time we're made to know the values of the Jedi, Anakin was already deep into the life to the point where he actively rejected lecturing on the basic fundamentals and instead operated on his own[Palpatine's] interpretations of them.
The Jedi did not, do not deal in absolutes forced on themselves and others, but in maxims that are meant to be understood through real lived experience. You'll notice that noone was ever actively punished or reprimanded for having attachments, but merely cautioned and advised with respect to their dealings with them. Only when members were suspected or attempted to be pursuing them at the cost of their sworn duty were they due for reprimand.
All that said, the lifestyle of a Jedi Knight is fundamentally incompatible with that of typical, normative society. It is a life that demands observation and control over one's desires and emotions in order to achieve true self discovery and expression. It's like submitting oneself to monastic life, complete with all its rules and restrictions - you find that true freedom is discovered *in* the restriction. With nothing for your desires attach to, only you remain. From there, what you do with your desires, how you express them with full respect to the well-being of others, becomes crucial.
Luke's Order in Legends only discarded the rule of attachment as a necessity. Luke wasn't going to grow the ranks of the Order to the mythoc ten thousand of the Order of old by keeping to doing things their way. It's why he picked up any and all able Force Sensitives he found, and why the majority of them were adults. His allowing for romantic ties was just his letting his own desires get the best of him, which is more or less true to his character, but dangerous for a Jedi, as we find out many times throughout the stories of the New Republic in Legends. Not that it's fundamentally a bad thing, but when you have command over the fabric of reality, dealing in worldly attachment becomes a risk and a liability.

Only when members were suspected or attempted to be pursuing them at the cost of their sworn duty were they due for reprimand. "
And Ashoka being framed for the bombing incident that Bariss Ofee committed essentially exposed all every bit of this hypocrisy of the Jedi. They believed that Ashoka did it all and condemned her with every inch of vitriol only to find out that she was innocent all along and what do they do? Play it off as if they did nothing wrong, like it was the will of the Force she suffered that way? Does mental health or simple accountable empathy and compassion exist for them?
"Luke's Order in Legends only discarded the rule of attachment as a necessity. Then by that case, whatever tragedy befell among the Jedi in Luke's Order was genuinely out of his control as opposed to the stuck up standoffish and dogmatic nature of the Jedi during the Galactic Republic. They forbade attachments yet can recognize somehow the necessity of it with the situation Ki Adi Mundi's species so why they could not be flexible as that? Also Luke also allowed practical means of defense for the Jedi along with more flexible teaching methods such as allowing them to use blasters.
I am absolutely sick of this portrayal that the Jedi were always good and they did nothing wrong. Luke's New Order in Legends that is essentially fixed everything the Old Jedi Order refused to fixed and top it all off, it shows everyone that Force sensitive individuals should never be either forced to either be Jedi or Sith in their lives. That is a toxic dichotomy no one should live by and they should be allowed to live their lives beyond that. They can live simple lives on a farm, do everyday jobs, commit to public government service/politics or join other religious groups concerning the Force (Guardians of the Whills, Church of the Force, etc.)

What makes this worse is that the director went on to elaborate that as he realized that he couldn't hold back the flames and absorb it with the force he accepted his fate and began to unite with the force, to join with it and thus adding his energyto it, strengthening it. And as the physical began to matter less and less he got one final gift from the force. The healing of his eyes to look upon those he loved most one last time before pushing them away.

I think this is the first time we've seen a jedi destroy his own Midichlorians in order to use a level of strength in the force so powerful that he could avert death, despite not being as powerful as anakin or luke, he was able to stop a massive wave of energy, thats not one solid object. That stands as a testament to just how heroic kanan was. He literally pulled so much force energy out that he inadvertently repaired his own eyesight, though if he had survived the explosion he would have probably died from the immense strain, or lost his connection to the force

Nope, by this point in time the only one who's surpassed death into eternal life is Qui-Gon, and he cannot even summon a physical form. Anyone who hasn't mastered the talent he discovered will lose all of their individuality and just return their life force to the greater cosmic Force. Caleb doesn't exist after this moment.
Adding on, Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Yoda, and **somehow** Anakin are the only ones who have broken this rule, all thanks to Qui-Gon, and we have no idea how Anakin learned it, it's a retcon of all light side users becoming force ghosts that has yet to be fully explained.

As a die hard Star Wars fan I cried when Kanan died... I cried when a lot of Star Wars characters died... I cried when Steela Gerrera died. I feel like she could've been even better then she was if she hadn't died. I cried when Master Plo Koon died because if you remember, he was the one that found Ahsoka, brought her to the temple, and formed a deep bond with her. I knew that there was a big chance that she felt his death and that's what made me cry. I even cried when Maul and Savage died. I felt like they were manipulated and lied to by the Dark Side and their family so much so that they forgot they could rise above their family and the Dark Side and be better.

I watched this series for the first time in my life (just finished it yesterday) and I was not prepared for this masterful scene.
I was already crying, but Dave Filoni was yelling, "MORE!!!" and added the final gut-punch that was Kanan's sight returning so that the last thing he would see would be Hera. This is a FANTASTIC SCENE that was done perfectly and exacerbated my disdain for Pryce. So glad I sat down and watched this show.

I remember watching this for the first time. I didn’t believe for a second he was dead, not until I watched the rest of the season. It was unheard of in Star Wars, killing off a main character. I was adamant that somehow he had survived, and only the season finale convinced me otherwise. I just couldn’t believe it.

I knew they would have to take out Kanan (and Ezra) at some point to keep things canon but it just sucks so bad cause you know its coming as soon as they introduce any surviving Jedi and all because of 1 line from Yoda in RoTJ. I still kind of call BS about keeping Ahsoka around just because she doesn't call herself a Jedi officially anymore.

    • @oprofeta6408

I was heartbroken at first cause I thought Maul broke Kanan’s promise to see Hera again. And while his sacrifice was more so, in the end he did keep it. One thing incredibly impressive about Kanan. My mom who can be quite stoic recognizes that fictional character are just that, fictional, doesn’t grow strong attachments to very many. She’ll cry tears for them in the sake of the story. But when Kanan died, she MOURNED! Like we were both crying messes! He did something VERY few characters do, gain her strong attachment.
