I’ve really changed the way I follow influencers. I now tend to follow people that are more about loving and reworking what you already have and less about buying more… My purchasing habits have changed as well. I do still buy things but maybe just one piece every month or two. I really think about the purchase and how I’ll use it before I buy. This video is packed with lots of great advice and information. Thank you!
Thanks for tip #20. The influencers I appreciate are those who try to teach how to think about style and fashion. What proportions work together, and work for you? What colors and shapes are trending, and how can you wear them with things you already have? The "influencers" I don't trust or like are the ones who do endless hauls. Each week another several NEW items to show. It's gross, really. Too much consumption. They can't possibly use all of that, and it ends up being like an infomercial, low on the information and high on the commercial. Anyway, thanks. I've found your channel recently and you do seem like one I'll enjoy for the thought processes, as well as the look.
Ah thank you for sharing 🙏❤️ totally agree with what you’ve said, the hauls are a lot and I’ve definitely been tripped up by this in the past. I’m always looking to do better but still enjoy fashion and expressing myself through what I wear as well. It’s a fine balance! Thanks for being here and commenting 🙏🙏💛 x
Great video!! I think wish list and organization is super crucial. And you have no idea how much I relate about the spreadsheet 😂😂😂 One of the most impactful things I did for developing my style is to make an excel table with several sheets. One sheet has the entire wardrobe table organized by item type ( shirt, skirt etc), color, date of purchase, elevated vs casual etc. There I enter my wear everyday and then review by season. I can see my most worn items per season and by type, I rate them 1-10 on how I feel and look in them. Anther sheet has reviews. Here I list an item as I purchase it, date, price, brand, notes on cut material, color etc. I make notes on how they wear and if I think it was a good purchase. Here is make a note if an item got removed from my wardrobe and WHY. I can also see how much money were spend on all items, especially removed ones . Not to write so much here, but looking at the list often makes me clearly see my preference, mistakes, and this have proven to be most useful tool for my wardrobe and style development. ❤
Great video Emily! You said the key word 'inspiring'. That's what I get from you and other channels that I like. Style is so personal and lifestyle is different for everyone. I am much older than you are and I work in a corporate environment but I still get a lot of inspiration from your videos. Thank you! 🥰
I have had white jeans on my wish list for a good ten years, but never found the right pair, never knew how to style them...basically the timing was never right. Low and behold, I found a pair of girlfriend jeans in the GAP sale for thirty dollars last week, tried them on and fell in love. Why did it take so long???? To cut a long story short, I truly researched cuts, hems, styling for every season and didn't purchase on a whim. We are coming into fall and fall/winter whites are so chic! A new and exciting challenge for me!!! (PS I was the same with denim jackets for years!!(now I have three!) ha ha...call me weird!? Thank you for all your tips and ideas!
Emily, Thank you very much for all there tips. For me you are an inspiration and not just an influencer. You are a good influencer. You show us the way about style and all your advice about stopping with compulsive buying clothes. I love your channel and again thank you so much.
GREAT video! A style influencer (Emily Wheatley) has changed my personal style to something I love. I recently lost a lot of weight and was forced to buy clothes in my new sizes. At 65, the combination of the weight loss and the decision about which way to go with my new clothes was surprisingly exciting. I'm a college professor, and I used a spreadsheet last semester, taught three days a week, and never repeated an outfit for 15 weeks. I'm going to photograph all of my clothes, shoes, and accessories on Indyx so I can decide how to downsize -- what to sell, what to donate, what to pitch. I'm glad you mentioned Alyssa. She's great. But you're doing a great job on your channel. Keep it coming!
As a 58 yo petite with a 65h bust on a short torso, it is not useful to listen to influencers with more model-like size and proportions. I work as a cleaning lady and i cannot dress too precious, if that makes sense. I fond the cargo style very suiting for me, and with short, wide tops, or tucked in tops to work. I dont really see anyone dressing like me, but finally, i feel like me. Also i finally figured out to Cut my own pixie cut, thanks covid😂 And the jewelry. Only a few items really feel right for me, normally dainty, classic ones. I cannot wear what looks fab on others.
Really appreciate this video. #20 certainly made me think because I have spent so much money on clothes that don’t suit me because I am being influenced by the bloggers.
I LOVE your tip about writing down your “why” in decluttering an item from your wardrobe. It’s the first time I’ve heard someone address it this way (keeping notes to reference in the future), and I think it’s invaluable. ❤
Thank you so much…what a great video. You have given me a lot to think about. Especially with regard to following influencers as I have found myself with a wardrobe of neutrals when I actually love colour. Will keep watching.
Wonderful tips ❤ I have used quite a few I like the trying on something that I normally don’t wear. I need to do that. Also the private Pinterest board. REALLY good idea. I just put my summer clothes away and put up my fall. It does make me happy to rewear the clothes I put away. I have never done a no buy. I need to do that too. Please do a video on it. Thanks so much for sharing these ideas ❤I love the not listening to stylist but using suggestions to get your own style. Really great tip.
I think my favorite is the shoe tip! it is so true. This morning I was wearing a navy tank dress, denim quilted short-sleeve button down, and navy boat shoes. I felt like a nursery school teacher, which I am not. Switching to a cognac strappy wedge sandal made me feel put together and cute.
Hello. I totally agree with the lint remover tip ! I recently purchased one and it saved the life of my favourite knitted sweaters. So glad, best purchase of the year !
This is great! I love to experiment with other's suggestions. Sometimes I may watch a style influencer and like it on them, but know it's not something I would like on myself AT ALL. And I have put items in my "cart" online several times, several places, and can't tell you how many times I don't even like the item that much any longer. But I've ALSO purchased things on a whim as many times. I need to do more of the first! Love it. Since this is the beginning of the month, I'm going to make this a "No Buy" month. Thanks for this. And your haircut is adorable!
I loved this video so, so much. I love your attitude about helpful advice... style is so personal and has to be because we're all so different. You're so, so right about shoes, they make all the difference. I also wanted to add that you can also use a regular disposable razor for pilling on cotton and wool. I do have a question... where I live the seasons are quite spread out and fluctuate a great deal. There can be a 30° temperature difference in a day. How do you store seasons items in this case?
Funny you say this, I do something similar but it’s not on purpose. I don’t purchase because I panic with making the right or wrong decision!! 😋 I never thought about getting the thrill of putting it in my cart. Love this thank you for sharing
It helped me a lot to be very selective. I always would say it’s good enough and never was truly happy with my clothes. Now that I am older, I am very selective before I take something home and am happier🎉🎉🎉
I really like that you encourage us to get to know ourselves instead of just copying. I do differ in my thoughts with jewelry. I think wearing the same few pieces is boring. I might prefer to have large earrings with small Pendent necklaces, or studs, small earrings with a statement pendent. Jewelry can create a lot of different interest to outfits if you have a selection to choice from. It can take boring, solid tops and bottoms and bring interest to the outfit.
Hi Emily! I love your videos. I so appreciate your fresh and practical perspective. I also love that brown top. I know content creators often get these (perhaps annoying) questions, but would you be willing to share the brand of the top you’re wearing?
yes to learning the cut that suits you!!!! up to now i still envy people that can pull off regular tshirts. i tried a few and it just doesnt suit me. i look underdressed all the time in that.
I have found that as i age, t-shirts show everything wrong with my body, and other tops are more flattering. Especially t-shirts with a High neckline are not flattering unless the bust is small or still high. T-shirts only work for me if they have a vneck
Thank you for your honesty Emily and I learnt so much from this video. I wonder if you could talk about the black blazer. I am only 5’ 4” and followed an influencer and bought the wrong oversized blazer. It swamped me! So now I have disposed of it as only wore it once and hated it on me. What sort of blazer would suit me and can you suggest some Australian brands as buying from the US and UK is soo expensive.
Hello, I’m 5’3 and bought a blazer from Sportsgirl yesterday… owning a gray blazer has been on my list and it was a happy accident since I returned an item that I didn’t love.. the blazer wasn’t too oversized so it was a great buy!
Rewatching this to get some inspiration! I was wondering if you had any tips for dressing with variety for work? I am a teacher with a very lenient dress code, but I find myself stuck dressing in the same outfits out of comfort. Not that I care terribly about the fashion opinions of 10 year olds (😂), BUT it's a place where people start to notice frequent exact outfit repeats & I do want to switch things up.
Totally agree about wanting to wear something different etc. Have you ever thought much about your colour palette? I find that being about to mix and match your pieces together easily to create lots of different outfits starts with a thought out colour palette
I like your vídeos very much but unfortunately I am overweight and older so most of the items are not possible for me but I appreciate the advice on de-cluttering, I would like to see how to style with long sleeves and covering hips? Styles for fuller bodies?
Totally understand. Thank you for you comment 🙏❤️ I am thinking about talking more about different body shapes for future videos. In recent videos I’m definitely trying to focus on understanding yourself more and your on style preferences. You’re the second person to ask me about this in the past week so I’m thinking of ways to talk more about it in future 🙏 Out of interest, do you know your body shape? X
I avoid those style channels that are mostly focused on hauls -- both fast fashion and luxury. While we get inspiration from them, the haul thing only promotes overconsumption. We can still get inspiration from sustainable style influencers.

Love this! I’m in the exact same boat 🩷🙏 thank you for watching, glad you enjoyed it x
I stopped following people who do "hauls". It is so wasteful

I love your channel because you are showing the real styling tips behind, not like those who are just about promoting certain brand of clothings.
Great video!! I think wish list and organization is super crucial.

I have signature pendants in gold and silver: a sand dollar. I wear one or the other every day (for the past 50+ years)

I love this video! That can be a series of 20 new videos step by step. Good job as always! ❤👏
What an original and helpful list of ideas.
Aw thank you so much! Glad you found it helpful 😌❤️ x

I always check the thrift stores first and have had wonderful luck!

Really great advice. I have thin hips as well and 'chino' type cut is nice to add curves as well

So many great tips in this video!! Loved it!!
I shop online but "save for later" in my cart. I get the thrill of shopping without actually buying.
Funny you say this, I do something similar but it’s not on purpose. I don’t purchase because I panic with making the right or wrong decision!! 😋 I never thought about getting the thrill of putting it in my cart. Love this thank you for sharing
Great video. 💕😍
For me personally I also need a scent to complete my style and mood. 😊
This was a really good video. Alyssa Beltempo is really good too!
Wow! Jammed packed advice. A keeper. Cuts, fabrics and details are my 3 I need to always focus on. Thanks for a great video!
Yay! So glad you liked it and found it helpful ❤️🥰🙏 x
I love the tip to create a 'my outfits' Pinterest board
It helped me a lot to be very selective. I always would say it’s good enough and never was truly happy with my clothes. Now that I am older, I am very selective before I take something home and am happier🎉🎉🎉

Me too. I buy jewelry every month. I love crystal jewelry with boho and gothic influences. I change my jewelry often.
Love the private Pinterest board idea❤
Hi Emily! I love your videos. I so appreciate your fresh and practical perspective.
I also love that brown top. I know content creators often get these (perhaps annoying) questions, but would you be willing to share the brand of the top you’re wearing?
That train in tbe background is perfect 😂😂

The problem is I don't wear trousers anymore...just long dresses...I don't know how to make more outfits with the same maxi dress.
I was thinking about Allison Bornstein « The wrong shoe theory» when you talket about The shoe tip👌🥿
