    Anything Rowland S. Howard touched is golden. I love These Immortal Souls and his solo albums to bits.

    A few interesting additions to my rock'n'roll playlist, thank you! In the late 80s, my first contact with Aussie rock, other than AC/DC, were The Celibate Rifles. Another fantastic band from Down Under.

    As an Australian expat living in Sweden this was really great to see. My favorite Australian bands include Something For Kate, Mindsnare, Outright and High Tension! I always felt spoiled for local music growing up in Melbourne. I remember seeing you and The International Noise Conspiracy play with The Nation Blue in Melbourne, that was a great lineup! Thanks for putting this together!

    I was waiting for X to come up, great band (discovered by chance thanks to the other X) and awesome record, I always wanted to make a cover of simulated lovers! My favorite band from Australia has to be Total Control, they're just incredible. Hope to see them live one day 🤞

    Hey Dennis I love you, just wanted to say though, the Australian state here where the Hard Ons were formed isn’t South Wales, it’s actually New South Wales - (geography lesson here 😂) so Sydney is the capital city of this state. In particular, The Hard Ons were formed in a south-western suburb of Sydney called Punchbowl…it’s a weird name for a place, I know, I grew up not far from there. The Hard Ons was my first gig ever in 1992 when I was 12 ❤
    Blackie aka Peter Black, their guitarist still plays his own low key shows too - my husband has a show coming up with him in the next few weeks here in Sydney. Blackie also does some personal training these days too - he’s in great shape. Sending love from The Land Down Under 🪃🦘🐨🐊🇦🇺❤

      The Hard Ons were and are still such a great band.

    I love Australian X. I have Aspirations ans Spurts ( 77 Recordings). Scientists are great. Numero Group released great box set from them. Feedtime is also great. Bass driven punk which reminds me sometimes of Flipper which is my top 5 band. I saw Hard Ons here in Finland at early 90's. Great band. Birthday Party is as violent as they come. Jesus Lizard comes close. To me Nick Cave is just as good and important as Bob Dylan. When I saw Nick Cave in Roskilde twice in 90's it was wild. I have seen them 4 times after that and every time I feel I am witnessing something really important. Sorry I meant to write that I enjoy your videos and have your albums and I am babbling on. Cheers from Finland!

    Great episode Dennis! Ray and Blackie's other band, Nunchukka Superfly are fucken awesome. Canine from Sydney play mad fast hardcore and thrash with slow riffing bits and are rad. The Necks are an instrumental improvisational three-piece of piano, bass, drums, and are sublime.

    As you said there is an undercurrent of violence in Australian rock and roll which it seems is more pronounced than from other countries. It's true that during that era people did not know what to do with female singers. I can think of only 3 or 4 and most were marketed as "songbirds": pretty girls with pretty voices but not taken as seriously as the men. Pop singers like Marsha Hines, Olivia Newton-John, Kylie Minogue, and Tina Arena. There were a few others who emerged from the pub rock scene but they didn't get the sort of support that all-male line-ups did. I think it might have been because their female fans weren't as motivated to attend shows in dirty, stinking pubs full of badly behaved men and rough surly bouncers. A frankly mysoginist environment.

    When I was 15 years old Def Leppard was my most favourite band. Hysteria was on my turntable on heavy rotation and when I was seeking more of this sound I‘ve discovered the australian band BB Steal and their debut On the Edge from 1991! The songs are awesome and some of them were even produced by Phil Collen of Def Leppard. Nowadays my son even likes BB Steal more and I‘ve had to make him customized backpatch for his battle vest! Also his first vinyl record is an australian band called Bengal Tigers with their debut Metal Fetish 🤘

      Never heard of BB steal. I will have to ask my aussie friends about them.

    Love all the bands mentioned, and many more- I suspect the "macho" element you detect comes from the mining towns- a very, very rough crowd. As far as my favorite Australian band? Well, I say, rather sheepishly- although I love loads of underground, experimental, and arty bands- my favorite is You Am I. I know, I know- as generic as possible. Why not just say "AC/DC"- well, it's the tunes. When Tim Rogers sets his mind to it, he writes songs that seem to be as witty, and true as Paul Weller, and as drunkenly heartfelt as Paul Westerberg. That the band is as accessible, and popular as they are doesn't erase those songs. I mean, I love Aussie bands from Grong Grong to feedtime to Rupture to The Amity Affliction to Nothing Sacred- But, I also love a good, solid tune....

    • @Dennisdeepcuts
      @Dennisdeepcuts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Grong grong and feedtime was considered so they might make the next list.
      I have a feeling that the roughness is everywhere though. Not only blokes from the mining towns.

    Fuck yeah to ending with the Cosmic Psychos. If you have not seen their doco #BlokesYouCanTrust... do yourself a favour. The whole Seattle scene loved them.
