Combine these: - A Legendary Track - A Group C Beast from the early 80s (much more extreme than the 90s ones) - A German Mad Lad with exorbitant talent - Qualifying fuel You get a legendary lap that remains history up to this day... That few can beat... Welcome to the Bellof Club, the club of SimRacers of next level who were able to beat Bellof's time at the Ring in the same machine.
@@StellarGale I was aware that Jimbo took the 962 instead of the 956. It was kinda easier to do the lap with a longer wheelbase, but a 6:11 is either way, very hard to reach
The reason I find this video so incredible, besides Jimmy's triumph, is that for that whole lap, you can see kinda what Stefan saw. That's probably the closest anyone's gotten to driving the car that hard in the way that he drove it, and its awesome to behold what it looks like to fling one of the worlds fastest racing cars down one of the world's most dangerous circuits and set a record with it.
i come back to rewatch this video every few months just to appreciate jimmy's determination to beat this time - honestly one of my favorite jimmy videos ever and super inspiring every time i watch. thank you jimmy!
This reminds me of my Imola project. I love the F2004 in AC and I also love Imola. I drove hundreds of laps, fiddled with the setup, crashed, improved my time, crashed again... it was an insane journey until I finally got a lap below 1:18. It ain't much in comparison to the sim racing aliens, but I'm proud of that achievement.
I very recently started to sim (like 4 days ago), in my mid 30s, but this video reminded me that exactly 10 years ago, a friend lent me his PS2 and a copy of GT4 and i played every night, for two weeks, with a gamepad too tiny for my hands, this exact circuit with a 190 Evo Cosworth to beat some dude's real record. I can't remember if i beat it, but by God it was intense, the little mistakes, the progress, the effort and the emotion. I relived it all watching you beat the Nordschleife into submission. Cheers too all who grind non stop for that extra tenth of a second!!!
Amazing drive and shows how much you have grown 3 years of hard effort has been finally rewarded congratulations man you of all people thoroughly deserve it :)
Thank you for making this video. I don't have a sliver of the skill nor the setup, but the feeling of fighting yourself for each tenth is absolutely there. Too often people in your position make it look too easy, don't show the failed attempts, but this to me is pure head down driving. Thank you.
We've just witnessed the struggle every sim racer goes through. Setting a goal, trying and trying to get it, only just missing it, trying and trying some more until you finally reach your goal. This video has been all things sim racing. I can very much relate to every second of this. I appreciate you video documenting this massive effort for us all, more than you may understand. Well done Jimmer. 👍
Well done Jimmy!! Having struggled to get gold on the Nord circuit experience playing GT, I felt your pain with the overdriving. I was regularly 3 seconds off, with many crashes from trying too hard. I actually have you to thank for getting me over the line. I took a break, discovered your channel, watched many of your vids, and when I came back 3 months later I knew the lines much better having learnt from you. Thanks bud, and great effort on the 6.11
I cheered you on for every second of that final lap. Strung it together like the champ you are. Well done man! Felt like I was watching Lewis at the Hungaroring this past year. Never give up. Never out of the fight.
Congratulations! You are my idol in simracing I experienced Nordschleife just a month(to know where to brake and steer) But this is just another level... Hats off to you
What many people don't know: Steffan Bellof had to drive 2 kilometer (1,24 miles) less than today. Due to the GP Track under construction they needed to shorten the lap. His average speed was 202km/h, 125,52 mph. Anyway huuuuuuge congrats to you jmmer!
@@felipetartas5434 Yeah I think so? Not sure anymore, would have to reread it. But I think the version in Assetto Corsa should be the usual layout at the time and then they shortened the track due to the construction of the new track.
Jimmy, the Nordschleife videos are the ones that brought me to your channel the first place. Since then, I've been enjoying the great and even sometimes pretty wholesome content you've been posting. The things you said in this video, about besting yourself being the most important thing, it moved me a lot. Sometimes when I'm playing in the sim I get frustrated, fatigued and even "try too hard and become a sweaty mess". Seeing you, the person I look up to the most when it comes to sim-racing, go through all of these feelings, feelings that I've experienced myself and still do, just made me feel so much better with myself, with what I do. I'm not saying that "seeing an idle fail" makes one see themselves as better than the other. No. I'm saying that it makes me believe even more in my very own potential to achieve greatness and become a better person than the one I was yesterday (and also get killer lap times while I'm at it :D). See that guy in the video, people? I like that guy.
Well done Jim get in there! I actually found myself shouting in celebration when you finished that 6.11.0 lap, what an amazing display of determination and persistence I'm really genuinely happy for you! Absolutely bloody brilliant is the least I can say right now it's the least you deserve Jim well done indeed 😁👍
The moment you crossed the line, Jimmy, my dog proceeded to root his blanket. He doesn't offer praise like that too lightly, let me tell ya. Well done.
Nordschleife in group c cars is absolutely the best thing ever. You've been a big inspiration to me to start my channel and the bit towards the beginning where you were talking about personal goals really hits home for me. It really gets taxing trying to get video after video done sometimes, especially when you're trying to film things that you aren't super passionate about. It really comes across in the videos too if you're into what you're doing or not. Keep it up jimmer.
I think every sim racer have "a unicorn". And through the years some just go on to the other sim games but I think a lot of us always come back and try with different tire pressure, toe, camber,... And then a couple of months go by, maybe new sim game came out, but then you get the feeling again, "you left something unfinished"... And go back for a couple of hours,... And so on... Until you either catch that unicorn or you see a new more interesting one.
Yeah I agree. Im new to sim racing and just race with a gamepad at the moment. Im still saving up for a wheel. My unicorn right now is the spielberg red bull ring. We gotta start somewhere right
The difference between a master their pupil is that the master has failed more times than the pupil has tried. That being said, you seem to be well on your way to becoming a master, well done Jimmer!
Stefan Bellof -- the more you look at his racing history and read accounts of drivers that worked alongside him -- was a truly incredible driver in his day. While the accident that ended his life was ultimately his own fault, there's no denying that he had the makings of an absolute legend. Martin Brundle even said "Stefan Bellof was as quick a driver as I've ever seen," which says a lot coming from a man that drove alongside drivers like Senna and Schumacher. It's great to see him brought into the spotlight nowadays with videos like these. Great job on the lap.
I wonder how different your life would be if someone stuck you in a kart when you were growing up. You may not have the raw talent, but you have some seriously raw determination.
Massive respect to you, Jimmy. To do serious hotlapping around the Nordschleife is probably the thing I hate the most in sim racing over the years. But when you get it right, its the most satisfying thing in sim racing. Congrats on the 6:11.1xx!
I know that this is an old video now, but I'd just like you to know how much you are inspiring me to improve my racing skills. I play on console (project cars) with the joystick, because I cant afford to buy equipment like yours, but I just don't care about it that much. All I wanna do is race. Thank you for exsisting and inspiring a lot of people like me.
It went from funny, frustrating, emotional, to just sitting here in silence watching every turn you make every time you nearly slip. Noones gonna talk about 24:08? A single CM more turned anywhere and that lap was gone. Literal tears on this lap. I love this channel you have created. Very talented, great potential. Shoot for 6:09.00 next. You just know you have to.

6:11 is such a magical time, it shows that racing driver's are a special kinda breed, we all knew that Bellof was right up there with sheer pace and speed and that if he would have lived, it would have been a epic battle between him and Senna, both were the best at what they were doing, along senna they would have been the name of Bellof being multiple WC in maybe F1 (they say he already had signed a pre-contract with Ferrari) and he would have been GOAT before Schumacher and Senna.....but we will never know sadly...... Jimmy your effort has been brilliant and getting to that magical 6:11 must have been wonderful and yes in the future you will break that record, if you do i'll be around to see that, love the channel and keep up those vids coming!
I found your channel a while back and was interested but not fully invested, but over the past few months Ive watched more and more of your videos Jimmy and it is getting me hooked on racing games more than i already was, I am saving up for a Thrustmaster TMX pro to start out with and then hopefully work my way up from there, Keep up the great work Jimmy and never lose the drive to do what you do
I am so pleased for you man That is a hell of an achievement to say the least. What i would like to add to the positivity is that I did some bench presses at the gym and i found out that i had a lot more strength to fight the car through the corners because i was able to fight the forces being generated by the force feedback so a few bench presses, arm and shoulder exercises and i can see your lap times getting better. BTW, I love the comment "victory wank!"
Amazing lap! I managed a 6:26 with my Logitech Driving Force GT (manual sequential shifting), lets see how I can improve by using my new G29. And you have to consider that Bellof had traffic during his lap, incredible performance by him

Congratulations Jimmy! That last lap was pure ASMR of simracing - very clean ride just a hair's breadth away from those crazy kerbs, it was a pleasure to watch.
In Sim form the 962C is a beautiful car to drive especially flat out, it dose handle like it's on rails and it is easy to over correct the car if your not used to it. It dose not take long to get a good time after a few laps, within a short time you can get a 6.07 to 6.05 flat in GT Sport. Thanks for your vids Jimmy! :)
They could (and did) use the concrete part, however some drivers would choose not to to save the car over the race distance. There is footage of the race on TH-cam showing cars both using and not using the banking

only that it isn't. It's using the same sample, but it's not quite the same mix as used in the video (Beat and Bassline is different). Nice Run; and very impressive how much you lowered your PB with every try over the years. Congrats:) And I too must once again mention how impressive that time was that Bellof drove in ´83. Which as others had already mentioned was actually done in a 956; main difference was that the 962 was longer due to safety-regulations. And if I remember correctly the 962 had a bit more HP; I think it was around 30 HP more at 8200 RPM. Really a shame that his career had to end this tragic and this early. Could easily see how Bellof could have been the first german F1-Champion before Schumacher.
EXCELLENT driving + commenting, Jimmer :-) Well I'm old enough to actually have entered the Nordschleife. Though my first time was in 1984 and not 1983. I visited the track again in 2010 and things certainly had changed in the 26 years between. Two things I think you're maybe already aware of, regarding the 6:11,13 series competition (homologious format) record of Stefan Bellof 1: Though the 20,832K course is more or less the same, there are some essential differences: 1.1: MUCH more bumpy circuit with holes, random patches, corners with concrete vs. asphalt sections and in general a much more diverse track treading. In deep contrast to the very uniform and smooth track of today. 1.2: MUCH more non-forgiving curbes. 2: The record was set in the Porsche 956 - not the 962C (and not to be confused with the 956B, which was driven the following year in Group C class) I've seen some P956 mods for AC, but not a 1983 track mod for the 1983 Nürburgring 1000 Kilometer Rennen weekend. Best I can think of is a 1967 mod, though still pretty far from the track condition (and ofcourse includes the 2K Ziel Strecke). Could be interesting to see some modders actually working on a 1983 track mod version. Driving such a mod combo with Direct Drive wheel and full motion sim rig could really honor Stefan Bellof and put his extreme performance in relief. And a remark: Stefan Bellof didn't use three years of preparation for this lap. Not to take ANYTING from the uploader, just to clarify which kind of predator Bellof was.
That moment when you get tears in your eyes watching some guy in a garden shed play a video game a little bit better than he did last time.

The fact you've kept coming back to this over the years to chase what seemed like a mythical time is actually rather inspiring.
That sort of dedication is something that a lot of other channels are missing, and its why watching you is always entertaining.
Keep up the great work Jimmer.

Combine these:
- A Legendary Track
- A Group C Beast from the early 80s (much more extreme than the 90s ones)
- A German Mad Lad with exorbitant talent
- Qualifying fuel
You get a legendary lap that remains history up to this day... That few can beat...
Welcome to the Bellof Club, the club of SimRacers of next level who were able to beat Bellof's time at the Ring in the same machine.
Not the same machine tho, 962 is more powerful and has longer wheelbase than 956.

@@XxJapinhaXx97 it's not about being flashy with the throttle, it's about committing to the acceleration and keeping up the momentum before that part
I very recently started to sim (like 4 days ago), in my mid 30s,
but this video reminded me that exactly 10 years ago, a friend lent me his PS2 and a copy of GT4 and i played every night, for two weeks, with a gamepad too tiny for my hands, this exact circuit with a 190 Evo Cosworth to beat some dude's real record. I can't remember if i beat it, but by God it was intense, the little mistakes, the progress, the effort and the emotion. I relived it all watching you beat the Nordschleife into submission.
Cheers too all who grind non stop for that extra tenth of a second!!!
Next up - Jim Clark's record at classic Monza in the Lotus 49 (road layout, 1:28.50)
Monza is my track.
Thank you.
Anyone else really wish they had Jimmy's setup?
Crazy Cookie yes
Heck yes
Nah mate I'll pass on the shed setup
I'd like to be a good driver like Jimmy, his setup is too much for a pleb like me but I think a must for a pro sim racer/streamer like him.
@@SevenMrTee I agree!

Jimmy gets scary when he's quiet
You are my idol in simracing I experienced Nordschleife just a month(to know where to brake and steer)
But this is just another level...
Pretty sure it's the same layout.
Yeah , almost nobody knows this , include Jimmy , thats why he got this time , if wasnt because of the Gp Track he would Never got this time

Are you comparing to the F1 track used until 70's?
Congrats Jimmer, shows how much you've grown and improved
Watching your sim videos taught me how to heel toe in my car lol
Adam LeBlanc all I could think of was undertale hahaha
Massive respect to you, Jimmy. To do serious hotlapping around the Nordschleife is probably the thing I hate the most in sim racing over the years. But when you get it right, its the most satisfying thing in sim racing. Congrats on the 6:11.1xx!
Mate, that last lap was beautiful. Talk about being ‘in the zone’. Wank deserved. 👍🏻

Also I really, really love how you edited this video, well done!
Well done Jimmy! Let that lap be a symbol for the many many things you have achieved over the last three years and the better place you are in and how you have managed to help others achieve such changes.
Well said

I am so pleased for you man That is a hell of an achievement to say the least. What i would like to add to the positivity is that I did some bench presses at the gym and i found out that i had a lot more strength to fight the car through the corners because i was able to fight the forces being generated by the force feedback so a few bench presses, arm and shoulder exercises and i can see your lap times getting better.
Jimmer, they actually never drove on the concrete part of carrussel or schwalbenschwanz as it would mess up ground effect, thus taking the wider line.
not making much ground effect at that speed, but I think they were too low to be able to take it without bottoming our completely.
They could (and did) use the concrete part, however some drivers would choose not to to save the car over the race distance. There is footage of the race on TH-cam showing cars both using and not using the banking
Knowing the highs and lows of Nordschleife hot lapping first hand.

Just dropping in occasionally but this definetly deserves a "thumbs up". Inspiring to see the development you took. I'm admiring your persistence to achieve this. Keep going mate.
Do you set your shifter to dogleg pattern for cars like this that have them?
Nice Run; and very impressive how much you lowered your PB with every try over the years. Congrats:) And I too must once again mention how impressive that time was that Bellof drove in ´83. Which as others had already mentioned was actually done in a 956; main difference was that the 962 was longer due to safety-regulations. And if I remember correctly the 962 had a bit more HP; I think it was around 30 HP more at 8200 RPM. Really a shame that his career had to end this tragic and this early. Could easily see how Bellof could have been the first german F1-Champion before Schumacher.
Your only missing a shaker rig, exhaust smells, and a proper stereo setup. not to mention a helmet, but well done.
EXCELLENT driving + commenting, Jimmer :-) Well I'm old enough to actually have entered the Nordschleife. Though my first time was in 1984 and not 1983. I visited the track again in 2010 and things certainly had changed in the 26 years between.
Two things I think you're maybe already aware of, regarding the 6:11,13 series competition (homologious format) record of Stefan Bellof
1: Though the 20,832K course is more or less the same, there are some essential differences:
1.1: MUCH more bumpy circuit with holes, random patches, corners with concrete vs. asphalt sections and in general a much more diverse track treading. In deep contrast to the very uniform and smooth track of today.
1.2: MUCH more non-forgiving curbes.
2: The record was set in the Porsche 956 - not the 962C (and not to be confused with the 956B, which was driven the following year in Group C class)
I've seen some P956 mods for AC, but not a 1983 track mod for the 1983 Nürburgring 1000 Kilometer Rennen weekend.
