The bike you were riding, a 2013, is the first year of the Gen III, and it has traction control, linked ABS, heated grips, cruise control up to 80 mph, a hard and soft shock lever setting, and panniers, all of which come standard. HealTech makes a quick shifter for it, though up shift only. Penske is the goto for Gen III suspension upgrades once high miles are achieved. 250k miles plus are not uncommon with general maintenance. There are many well documented videos on simple repairs, which keeps money in your pocket. The FJR platform has actually been produced for the past 21 years and is well known for its bulletproof Japanese reliability, inexpensive parts, and fun factor, with, and without the panniers. It goes 72 mph in first gear, and the fun really begins in the higher RPMs, but that’s not for everybody.

I have to tell you, I own a 2014 Yamaha FJR1300A (Red) and love that bike. Comfortable, powerful. Just an all-around joy.

I like it . Shaft drive . The others r chain KTM has horrendous reliability issues . The only other bike I’d consider is a Goldwing

Cool bike en video. I'd like to know if the cruise control is usable at all speeds and in all gears? I know that sometimes Yamaha will restrict it to fourth gear and up with a minimum speed such as with their mt10.

Dash could use tft color but most all the rest of the modern "goodies" you mentioned as missing are on the 2016-2021 model. It will be interesting to see where or even if things go in 2022 since it has been dropped from Europe due to emissions? I own a 2021.

It needs major updating. Great bike but overpriced and behind the times.

I own an 06 fjr and a 2013 Harley Ultra Classic. The fjr feels like moving around a toy compared to the 950lb Harley.

Thanks for the review. I'm looking for that exact bike or the 2014. Not paying pandemic prices. I was wondering what part of the country you were in until you pulled up to that last intersection. Hello Neighbor.... Sub'd. If you see a Red 5th gen VFR out there, stop me and say hello. We have probably passed each other.
