You will be very happy to know that my son's class made a buddy bench in their school in Kuwait this year. It works wonderfully and was featured in their yearly show as well. You are quite the inspiration young man! Thank you for spreading your idea.
Charlie you are really a great inspiration. I did listen. I listened carefully and a young friend of my daughter also shared with me that she is lonely in school. Hence I am determined to introduce your idea to our local school here in South Germany. You rock!
@@forrtress5001 he can make other big things as long as he wants, because he can and all of us also can. Plus, why are you talking about him like that..🤔
Inspiring talk Charlie! Every time I see the Buddy Bench at Trinity Beach State School I smile. Even when it's empty, it's empty because all the kids have someone to play with.
brilliant! I was touched. I cried happy tears. I wish I had a buddy bench growing up in public school. I LOVE this idea! I want to introduce the Buddy bench to the kids schools. God bless Charlie and his parents!
I love this talk, I'm homeschooled so it make it hard to make friends sometimes, but from my perspective you don't need everyone one in the world to be friends with you. I may have very few friends. But the ones that I do have, were great friends. we get along well, we keep in touch with each other, we can relate to each other. I love this talk, I think there should more buddy bench's. Not just in Australia, but a round The world.
1.His problems at 6 year old were in making friends, and then he found out he needs glasses, which still didn't help him with his confidence, and he was bullied 2. The bench idea is for if someone is alone and decides to sit on the bench, the other kids know he's alone and can invite him to play with them so he won't be alone
I am so happy he came up with the idea of a "Buddy Bench". It would be so nice to see this in all schools. Just for children to enjoy some small talk or even to relax and get to know peers. Sure, now it may be difficult for children to make friends because of the over involvement in technology but schools could definitely, have a place where children put away all the gizmos and gadgets and 'chill-out'. Brilliant idea.
Hello Charlie, We watched your video today in class, my students were inspired to come with similar ideas to make a big difference in school! Thank you for your spark!
I would love to implement this beautiful idea in my sleepover summer camp. I would love to connect with Charlie Cooper to send a video message to our campers about the buddy bench! Charlie, you're brilliant and your simple yet profound idea is expanding throughout the world! Thank you.
What a powerful talk Charlie! And, what a powerful idea... You have eliminated so much pain with this creative idea, and with your excellent leadership. I'm glad that the world has you!
Charlie Cooper you are an inspiration to all and a true little innovator, your story made me cry, but this is something that is worth spreading and not only here in Australia for schools all around the world to adopt this great initiative and call it Charlie's Buddy Bench!
Great talk Charlie! I love how you thought about what you could to make yourself feel better; and in the process you have helped other children make connections, and think about making friendships with others. Sometimes a simple hello can start a great friendship, or a nice chat to feel more connected to people. Well done.
Good on you mate. Nice to have met you out at JCU. I wish you well with your schooling. You may not have realised it but you have had 61,965 folks view your talk. From little things big things grow. Keep up your great work. Cheers Dave
I would have never come up with such an idea growing up in India, where we have the opposite problem, that is lack of personal space ;) Jokes apart, Buddy bench is indeed a cool idea to "beat loneliness and make friends" :)
but in india, a lot of places have a lot of crazy children, mostly boys, and the children who are somewhat less crazy have nobody to play with. in certain parts of india, there are schools where smart people are laughed at and idiots are normal. so this bench thing could acually work there too.
This is an interesting topic that contributes a lot to the over all involvement of the people in all activities and shows that every one can initiate and every one is good in way or other so this young wise boy is amazing.
I love this idea, but Australian school kids are fucken brutal. There was this girl in our year/grade who had leukaemia, so she had to shave her hair. Some people bullied her because of that, and they bullied her so much, that she had to move schools. I hope that bench doesn't get vandalised. Lovely kid
Yes. When I went to school we had a dunce cap and sat in a corner to be humiliated. I learned not to trust teachers and/or authority; and much much more of the ilk.
In these times, peple get lonely because of schools, jobs, etc. That's great idea to eliminate loneliness in schools. Because schools are the core of loneliness what we complain about.
This idea could change schools I think it’s great but the down side is people wouldn’t listen to the rules but really it’s a good idea Charlie and how could ours school help?
ayo charlie wherever u are hope u doin good bro, these kids who bullied you need to get a beating in the head dont worry when they face reality well teach em a lesson knock sum sense into them
this is NOT a Ted Conference. This is a Tedx event. The criteria is you have an idea that is worth spreading. When we started organising this, Charlie stood out because he had a personal story which he initiated in his school and the community.
If my school had a stool I would be sitting on it every day even because nobody likes me and if a teacher tried to force someone to play with me I would refuse because nobody should have to be forced to play with someone they don't like
agreed, I used to make "fake friends", as in people just to hang out with to keep bullies away. sitting on a buddy bench would just scream "I have no friends!" at the world, so bullies would know nobody's got your back, but, he did say there are teachers monitoring it so...
anyone else here for an English class or something like it

It's really an amazing idea to spread.
I also have part of my dream through which I want to help many people as long as I live .♥️

One of the elementary schools here in my area of TN has these! And they are inscribed with "Buddy Bench" on them. :0)

Its a good idea, but having gone to 2 school with what we called "the buddy bench", no one every sat there and it was ignored

so, the question is, after the talk he went and sat on that bench, did the adults join him?? did someone in the public join him??

I dont think this would work... bcoz bullies would throw paper balls at you and make fun of you if you don't have friends..
