It's the definition of good music. Which goes to prove good music transcends style and stands the test of time. Social Distortion and Volbeat both did rock covers of this song wonderfully.
I DEDICATE THIS SONG TO MY BELOVED FATHER, WHO I LOST ON NOVEMBER 19, 2008. I KNOW HOW MUCH YOU LOVED KITTY WELLS. YOU WILL NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH I LOVED YOU AND MISS YOU. YOU WERE MY WHOLE LIFE AND ALWAYS WILL BE. HOW COULD GOD TAKE YOU AND LEAVE ME HERE ALL ALONE. MY LIFE ENDED THE DAY I LOST YOU. THEY SAY TIME HEALS ALL WOUNDS NOT THIS ONE DADDY. I HAVE NEVER FELT SUCH GUT WRECHING PAIN IN MY LIFE. I CAN'T WAIT TO BE WITH YOU AGAIN. ALWAYS KNOW YOU ARE MY EVERYTHING. LOVE ALWAYS BARBARA.
My dad was in love with Kitty Wells. He was so thrilled meeting her in person. He has a picture of the two of them together and I think it’s his most prized possession.
This was my favorite song by Social Distortion. Then one night on a long road trip I heard THIS version in a Cracker Barrel. And then I found out it was Kitty Wells and discovered that gosh darn it! I was a Kitty Wells fan. Who knew!?!?
I grew up with her songs, as well as patsy cline, dolly parton, jim reeves, hank williams sr, hank snow, ect. this is real country music, not like today with electric guitars and big drum sets. i wish this was still a thing, but for now i'll stick with listening to it on here til i get myself a record player and some records so i can listen to this at anytime
I was a "Yankee" when we moved to Tn at age 9 and fell in love with real country music. It was on WSM at 4:00 every afternoon and that was the only TV station at the time. I still love the REAL country and was always a Kitty Wells fan.
I was born in 1966 but my mom and grandmom had 78 records of her recordings, they used to play those records and sing along with Kitty and others, oh how I miss those days.
Thank you so very much for putting this video out there. There are some beautiful female singers out there.and l just think they are so great.and they are for sure...But Kitty wells is my very favorite buy far.. l first heard Kitty when l was in my early teens...now in my late 60.s. and have never changed my mind about the great Kitty Wells. The voice.... Can't get enough.... Thanks again.....
I love that Kitty never got show-bizzed up. She sang straight with that incredible voice, telling her stories right up front. She never "sold" a sang in her life. She just told the story. This is artistic integrity.
I first heard this song performed by the wonderful Emmylou in 1977. just tonight (31/08/2023), I've listened to this 1955 recording by Ms. Wells. I'm astonished! I never knew that this existed pre-Emmylou. Beautiful.
I was just entering my teenage years when Kitty Wells began her recording career. There was something magical about her voice and the simplicity of her singing that I loved. She never changed a thing throughout the years, despite the glitz and glamour and promotionalism that came to country music. She was a strong woman, family person and a fine example for all. R.I.P.
Making believe That you still love me It's leaving me alone and so blue Still I'll always dream I'll never own you Making believe It's all I can do Can't hold you close When you're not with me You're somebody's love You'll never be mine Making believe I'll spend my lifetime Loving you and making believe Making believe I never lost you But my happy hours I find are so few My plans for the future Will never come true Making believe What else can I do? Making believe I'll spend my lifetime Loving you and making believe
I have to say I am not very keen on country musicBut the old real stuff is what I adore. Its just a must. You cant not like the old stuff. hehe! But when I was a little girl I would tune in to a little radio station out ofGalax VA.The station is still there and still airs the same old stuff as well as bluegrass & other things. But back then.I was veryyoung and impressionable andKitty was -seriously-one of the first people I heard comin thru those mysterious air-waves.I still sing to this day♥ tks
I wonder how many hundreds of times I've listened to Kitty Wells singing this song since I first heard it in the 1950s. I'm absolutely in love with this song and the way she sings it. And now with youtube, I have a first row seat!
She was my favorite. I played the Steel back in the 50s and always wanted to play the Steel for Ms. Kitty. I think she was indeed the first female voice I heard that I thought was country to my liking.
What a great trip back to 1955 -- such a wonderful time to have lived. I would not trade one memory from then for anything you could give me from today's sick world. That is an amazing custom Gibson she is playing. It looks to be a smaller version of a slope shouldered J-45 all decked out with J-200 binding and inlay. Bet it is worth a fortune today!
My beloved father really loved you Ms. Kitty. I know, he's looking down from heaven smiling, I wish, he was sitting here with me. My heart, will never get over losing you Daddy, you were not only my Dad but my best friend. I will NEVER, stop grieving for you always know you are loved and missed.

@dadsgirl0423 you are so sweet, what a blessing your Dad gave to the world in you, I lost my Dad last week, he was my best friend, nobody ever believed in me more, he sure did love to listen to Kitty sing, this is the year I was born, 1955........Tall Paul the drifter, intrepid traveler in a brave new world
AS A COUNTRY FAN OF 51 YEARS, KITTY WELLS IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE GIRL SINGERS. ALSO MAKING BELIEVE IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE COUNTRY SONGS. R. I. P KITTY. 🌹THANKS FOR THE MUSIC
The best!! She was truly a pioneer. Incredible singer. Her playing guitar and singing opened a lot of boundaries. I wish I could have seen her performance. R.I.P your music is always in my heart
She was the queen of country and naybell Carter was the mother of country gospels along with her daughters. Back in those days we had great performance from the country singer who really cares of the music that they're singing and the songs comes from their hearts and not just to fill their pocket purse or billfold.
It is so awesome to hear all these stories posted here....She was on her way out when I first started learning about music. Not my favorite now by any means. I'm a rock n roll kinda guy...lol....But if I have to listen to country, I would rather listen to this than all the commercial crap that calls itself country these days!
Kitty Wells has always been one of our favorite singers. Mom had all her records. I grew up on this type of great country music. What a loss to the whole world. Miss Kitty you will always be remembered. Thank the good lord we will have her music forever.
Hello all. I have known the name for years, but this is my first time to actually take a listen and this 74 year old gentleman likes what he hears. In what are, or nearing, my final.years, or months in this world I have been drawn to country classic music. The pure beauty of it. And country Gospel.as well. Read your Bibles people. Matthew, Mark, Luke John and Proverbs at a bare minimum. ALL is very important to know.
Kitty Wells was the ultimate trail blazer for Women in Country Music. She opened the doors. I grew up on this music, and to each and everyone of these great stars of yesteryear now passing away, is sad for me. They were such a part of my growing up years, when all my loved ones were still alive. The memories are priceless. :-)
Jimmy Work wrote and first recorded this beautiful ballad. I had the pleasure of visiting Jimmy and his wife Ruth's house a few times back a few years ago. They lived in Dukedom, Tennessee. It was an awesome sight to see the gold records on Jimmy's wall. I have photos of it somewhere. RIP Jimmy.
Listening to Kitty Wells taught me to me to add C&W music to my overall appreciation for the genre, and hearing the Carter family do Wildwood Flower cemented it.
❤. Rest in Peace 🕊️🕊️ Beautiful Kitty Wells ❤
The original Queen of country music. She was beautiful and talented 💐🌹🌹❤❤
still is!
She will always will be
Still is! She set the gold standard.
This lady is the definition of country music!
I concur
Here, here.
Queen of country!! I miss her!

This was my favorite song by Social Distortion. Then one night on a long road trip I heard THIS version in a Cracker Barrel. And then I found out it was Kitty Wells and discovered that gosh darn it! I was a Kitty Wells fan. Who knew!?!?
JLWing77 that’s the most punk rock thing I’ve heard in a long time.
Love it!
That’s one reason I love Cracker Barrel
EmmyLou Harris sings this song and it's the best version imo. She was a 70s and 80s Country artist.
Love Social D!
Now, this is the original. Kitty was the forerunner of the great female country singers.
David Barnett Dave, your right though Kitty Wells was preceded by Lula Belle, who was preceded by May Bell Carter.
She is THE first lady of country music. Classic Country Music the way it's always meant to be sung. She makes my heart hurt.

A true country music great. Thank god for You Tube allowing us to relive all of our favorite artists. I love this music.
Love this song it brings back so many memories of a love that walked out of my life I still love you keith💔💔
A reluctant performer playing one of the most rare Gibsons you'll ever see.
Why is it a rare Gibson? I always wonder what kind of guitar they have when I see these oldies.
My candidate for the most poignant song in American popular music history! Shatteringly true and beautiful.
"Kitty Wells is first and the only true queen of country music no matter what they call the rest of us." - Dolly Parton.
She's right.
Than Dolly is #2
@@donsmaglinski7471 not for me. I'd put Loretta Lynn #2.
@@HillbillyWerewolf Patsy Cline
@@rupdesnoop yea these guys are fools. Patsy is above anyone in her time
She still gives me chills. Truly the Queen of Country Music. Rest in Peace, Kitty Wells.
Chills is right. She had such a moving voice
Possibly one of the best songs ever.

Kitty Wells and Jenny Lou Carson are my favorite female singers in the world.
One of the best ever. Love you Kitty still
No one could sing country/old time/gospel music like the great Kitty Wells. She is long gone but her music lives on forever.
What a great trip back to 1955 -- such a wonderful time to have lived. I would not trade one memory from then for anything you could give me from today's sick world. We have lost a wonderful lady the ultimate " Queen of Country Music "
Rest now Miss Kitty your music will live forever.
Makes me feel like a kid again. Back when western country was popular country. Think I'll run outside and play now.
I remember listening to this on the a.m. radio in my 1955 Buick century Jerry Mcdonogh
Young buck brought here by social distortion. Thanks Mike and definitely thanks kitty. Would never have learned guitar without you
