    Very Helpful. No matter how may times I read the British Gas Help I still wouldn't of twigged the key goes in on the 'unlocked' position as this 'seems' counter intuitive. Watched your video, sorted mine on 5 minutes. Thanks.

    • @anthonymuldoon8918
      @anthonymuldoon8918 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes!
      Most definitely!
      Err on the side of caution!
      Always!
      There is a (maybe very slight) possibility of electrocution.
      Water; electricity, and Humans don't mix.
      Keep them separate.
      Leave it switched off for about ten to twenty minutes;
      so that you get an accurate (room temperature) pressure reading on the pressure gauge when you top-up the water.
      Go very slowly and don't go too much over 1 - 1.5 bar pressure.
      There are safety features to prevent electrocution but,
      when doing any DIY procedure(s);
      always isolate yourself from any live circuits -
      i.e. switch it off until you've carried out the procedure(s).

    Should also add that the main reason (apart from refilling/ venting radiators) for system pressure drop is possible leakage from PRV and/or failure of expansion vessel on rear of boiler.
    Expansion vessel should be checked and re pressurised with annual servicing which will generally prevent problems with PRV failure.

    • @AllenHart999
      @AllenHart999  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good point, i should of added that.

      Oh good to know. I have to re fill mine 2 to 4 times a year, every year. I've always had air in the rads or system somewhere and I figured the air was eventually getting to the PRV where the boiler would let it out.

    If only one bar required why is the gauge marked in green at two bar

    • @anthonymuldoon8918

      This is because the heated water expands with heat and pressure.
      The normal pressure reading of 1 bar is when the boiler isn't operating.
      In use, the pressure gauge will go up, you don't want it going too high (into the higher red measurements) as safety features will kick in and the boiler will cut out (hopefully!?) before any damage is done to the boiler (or you).
      These are approved safety limits to prevent the boiler from blowing up and scalding.

    The expansion vessel is knakked.
    Why?
    Zilmet purposely made their expansion vessels last only 5-7 tops.
    Why?
    Because since the E.U banned all the better boilers for these monoxide and NOx spewing condenser boilers that only last 7-12 tops they needed to keep their sales up!
    So they made their expansion vessels to match the boiler lifespans.

      Or are easily lost? What's the betting that you get the call out to re-pressurise at 12.30 on a Saturday or on a Sunday? When all of the heating spares places are shut? I hate those boilers that have either those crappy little keys or a specific size, shape of removable filling loop specific to the make/model of boiler. They always get lost and carrying a copy for each and every make/model is just infeasible. What is wrong with a standard filling loop assembly with a lever valve and check valve and flexi braided hose oh and a couple of cap offs for both valves just in case (belt n braces)

      loafer sheffield most of your standard filling loops are shite too, but as you say they're a standard size and easy swapped over.

      My key got stuck in the loop on install. No one has ever managed to get it out!

      It's awkward to say the least to remove that key. Again, either the householder will lose it or the attending engineer, likely will not carry one. So much so, it has been rendered redundant. W/B do not make boilers any more with this particular filling/re pressurising method.
