    new white version of chromecast has a remote and doesnt need a phon for remote control and casting, so you can use a phone as hotspot and still control the chromecast with its remote

    Just had the inside tour, you've got a great home on wheels. I love the children's bunks, that babies cot looks nice & safe. The washer should pull the baby to sleep.
    Stay safe on your travels

    Hey! Loved watching! Especially storage ideas. I noticed you're using a standard garden hose. You need to get a "potable water hose" to make sure your drinking water doesn't have the taste of the hose in it. Enjoy! Looking forward to watching more of your vids.

    We have our break away cable attached to the car bumper. Not the chain. 47.07. If the chain detaches from the car, the breakaway cable will not deploy.

    Re chrome cast:
    The Apple TV as you are using it now is a good option, but it may be worth getting a mobile 4G router like the Nighthawk M2 and using that to provide WiFI coverage in your van from the Telstra 3G, 4G, and 4Gx network. These units charge off of USB-C so you can run it off your existing USB chargers and you can also get efternal antennas to connect to the FME antenna ports in the back.
    With a mobile router, your devices can all connected to a WiFi network (like you would at home) and your streaming services should function normally. I would also recommend when joining laptops to this network to make sure you set it as a "Metered Network" so that they avoid downloading updated and use the bandwidth more economoically.
    Lastly, most providers will allow you to order a data sim attached to the data allowance of your family plan. By doing this, you combine both of your phones data and can use it from your mobile router.
    Cheers.

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that! We actually ended up getting the nighthawk so we could run the Apple TV and it’s bloody amazing! Haven’t heard about the data sim before, will look into it, thanks for the awesome tips! 😁

    • @Sethjxl
      @Sethjxl 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BigOzExplorers No worries. As another note with the nighthawk: If you have trouble communicating between devices, look up "Disable ipv6 on nighthawk". These devices have a few known issues with ipv6 and work much better with ipv4.
      All the best.

    Congratulations on making such a brave move. You're going to have a wonderful time once travel is allowed to resume. I love your caravan, it's fantastic. I love that it has 3 berths for kids, that extra one is so useful and will make a great play area for Jack when he's a bit bigger. You chose wisely in buying the floor model rather than building your own, the extras are so great. Best wishes and stay safe.

    Might I suggest putting all the cleaning supplies, locked, out of the reach of little hands?

    Hey guys , great video , enjoy vanning . One thing i would comment is , we've been told you can't use rear jerry can holders for fuel . Our van handover guy mentioned it , as he has had customers fined by the popo .

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t heard that before, I guess it makes sense if someone rear ends you. I’ll ask some questions! I wonder what happens if you need petrol and your in the middle of nowhere though, what’s more important to the cops, weight distribution or fuel placement 🤔 I might ask a local cop!

    • @mojo2353
      @mojo2353 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BigOzExplorers Yep , it’s weird cos a lot of vans have them , I’m sure cops would book you if they need their quota up . 🤔

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Done a little research and is seems as long as you are under 250L in total for petrol, you don’t go into the dangerous goods carrying grade... so max we would ever have is 140L tank in the car and 2x 20L Jerry’s, 190L total so we’re good! Fun facts with Big Oz 🤪 That’s something new I’ve learnt today, thanks to you ☺️🙌🏻

    Up and at em. Very impressive with the young one. Just a tip. When I got my TV the guy warned me about having it too near cooking fumes. Said it could coat the circuit board and bugger it. Notice you had one of your smellys directly underneath. Otherwise, go hard. Still doing my van up and being a Vic no-one loves us at the minute. I'm a fan.

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sian: I honestly think I liked the idea of the smelly thing but to be honest I don’t actually use it that much and it needs 240v power and I prefer having the extra bench space anyway 😂 it was a nice thought but hey, at least the tv is safe now I guess 🤪

    Really loving the content thanks for sharing. I have a chrome cast working in my caravan now off grid But you do need two iPhones. One set up on hotspot that your spare iPhone and your chrome cast can connect to and go through the setup procedure on. there is instructions on the Internet and it does work. Just hold the button down on the chrome cast until the light goes white to perform a factory reset and then start a fresh set up procedure of it and your spare iPhone both tethered to the hotspot on another iPhone.

    The trick to chrome cast is to set it up on a wifi somewhere else. Once setup of you enable wifi sharing on your phone and make sure the SSID is the same name as the SSID on the wifi you set it up on. Chrome cast won't know the difference and will allow you to stream from your phone with out a wireless router.
    Option 2 would be too use an old Android phone as a wireless router or a wireless router with 4g support. Add an additional sim card to your plan and install it in the router and it will work as if you are at home

    It’s possible to convert your Apple TV to run 12v power if your happy enough with the Apple TV it’s not a hugely difficult modification

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is possible to make Apple TV run on 12V but we’re not prepared to pull the thing apart and figure it out! Our battery upgrade includes an inverter which we need for our microwave as well so we will probably use the inverter when we’re streaming because it’s simpler than chromecast! Our Wi-Fi is 12V so the Apple TV alone won’t overwork the inverter at least... The battery upgrade is next week so we will let everyone know how that all goes anyway, hopefully we can keep everything working the way we have it now! 🤞🏻

      Big Oz Explorers nah not at all I drive a Ranger and think it’s the best towing vehicle I’ve ever had, if I update I’ll maybe look at the Dodge Ram but I’m very happy with the one I’ve got, you guys enjoy your traveling and experience everything you can coz it’s a bloody big country, I do caretaking on large properties mainly in western Queensland I’m currently on 34,000 acres West of longreach and not sure how long for I’ve been here 6 weeks now and the owners have another property and interest so they said settle in for as long as you want, plus I was out here last year for a couple of months, but you guys have a great time and hopefully we will catch up one day cheers Amos 👍🍻🇦🇺

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow what a job! That’s awesome! Have you got your family with you at least, it would get quite lonesome on 34,000 acres...
      We also love the Ranger, it’s been a great car and it’s towing great, we underestimated its capacity but it’s doing better than we thought! I wish we could keep this car but we are so close to the GCM, it’s always going to be unavoidable after the caravan was quite a lot heavier than it was supposed to be on the brochure… what can you do!

    • @amosbanjocaretakers3598
      @amosbanjocaretakers3598 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Big Oz Explorers yes I’m right on my GCM as well I’ve got a Vivid Explorer 18’6” full off road and the similarity and features are exactly the same as your van, hmmm very interesting, but no I’m out here on my own oh well I have my blue healer dog with me and the mrs is home in Hervey Bay working well is until the end of this month she was made redundant she works for News Corp Newspaper so she might come out here for a few weeks after she finishes up at the end of month but then she will go back home coz she has a elderly mother in the bay to keep a eye on. But you guys will have so much fun and memories made and at your ages you will see so much, I wish I would have done what I’m doing a lot earlier but I love the outback and the bush must be in my blood I grew up on 186,000 acre property in NSW and miss the freedom and remoteness that’s why I’m out here living the dream, cheers 👍🍻🇦🇺

    Stumbled across your videos while i was looking for a canopy build. Im gonna subscribe you guys seem cool, and not all about the attention.
    Idea for the "dont know what to do" cupboard. Perhaps you can put a bin in there? Get that door modified to pull out like your pantry does, and the bin can be on a slide that comes out, chuck ur rubish in it then slide it back closed.
    Ive always been fascinated by a caravan with all the cool features they give you i will try to incorperate them into my canopy build, but i find myself having to duck down inside them being a bit to tall lol.
    Lastly will you be givjng the fourbie any attention in the rear suspension wise. Perhaps it was the video angle but looked as if it was squatting down a bit, are you gonna get airbags in the rear?

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there,
      That is an awesome idea for the end cupboard, I love it! We still currently have it as a "don't know what to do" cupboard and really we need to do something... It's such a great space and so big, I love the bin idea! I'll run it past Chris and see what he thinks! :-D
      With regards to the rear suspension, we have 300-500kg leaf springs and although it was just enough to tow the van, we wanted airbags as well. We just had them put in last week and it has made a world of difference to the appearance and ride in the cab when towing, 100% recommend them hey! Maybe airbags could help your canopy build so you don't have to duck down? lol
      Thanks for your feedback about us as well, what you see is what you get and I'm glad you've enjoyed watching so far. :)
      Cheers, Sian and Chris

      krump 7 also with the car we had airbags installed to help with the weight the car was carrying with the house on the back. What a difference they have been! Would highly recommend them if you were someone looking into them and wasn’t sure. Even just the performance of the car without the car has changed completely, such a smooth ride now! Best investment we could of done ✅

    @rickyellard8297 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Little curious about your battery setup. The redarc battery manager is close to 2 of the batteries, but not so to the other 2. I believe that's not an ideal way to fully charge batteries equally. Battery leads need to be similar length etc. Did you have 2 batteries added, and placement an issue, or was that standard from manufacturer. At least with redarc, once batteries fail can buy 2x200amp lithiums and put under caravan, and none under seat. you mention 2 and soon to be 3 solar panels. Are they large output. You have 400amp battery, so ideally should have 800watt solar. Especially with 12v fridge.

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Ricky, thanks for commenting! This was how we purchased it from the dealer... Our battery system has vastly changed since this video, we now have one 200ah lithium battery under the dining table seating with a 2000W inverter. We use the outside box for storage of our sullage hoses now. We have also had an additional two solar panels installed on the roof so we have 600 W in total (150W ea). Dependent on our need when we go off grid more often, we may get another 200ah lithium battery to piggyback our current one, but for now the 200ah seems to be doing the job! Thanks for following our journey ❤️

    Just a lil hot tip with your storage if you can try and keep your heavy things as low as you can it will help with the centre of gravity and when you get on the bumpy road it will help with the longevity of the cupboards and shelves.

      Hey there! Welcome to the Big Oz channel, thanks for watching!
      We searched many brands in our local area and this van had all the mod cons and features we wanted! It’s a fibreglass shell (with 10 year structural warranty !!), full off-road capability AND really competitive pricing! We had a list of ‘what we wanted’ when we started but the more we looked, the more our needs changed and we realised what suited our needs most was different than expected... this Trail Caravan ticked every box, plus the staff are awesome at East Coast and really helped us being first time buyers 😁 100% recommend if your in the market for a van 👌🏻
