Thanks Guys!! I'm just about to embark on a 2 year adventure, havent got the van yet (prooving to be harder than buying the car) but your 38 min show has enlightened me & given me more advice than any caravan site or "power experts" have in 6 months of research!! You are gems! I have subscribed & can't wait to see more of your content. Thank You so much!! M ;)
I have just bought my first caravan. I am learning A LOT!!! This video has helped heaps, a lot went straight over my head but at the same time there's a heap of things you said that finally makes things clearer. Will be watching again for sure. Thank you :)
Guys, that was filth! Real world info prac and theory. Iv been trying to get that stuff into my head for about 18months and that just put it all together for me. Well done and thank you. Have a great trip.
Just saved your video to watch again later, we just bought ourselves an old 1970s caravan, looking to install 12v / solar into it. I will be vlogging our caravan adventures here in New Zealand 🇳🇿 on my youtube channel 😊
Hi, You were recommended by My Generator to watch as I contacted them to get an idea of how much off grid solar I would need for my home in a van. Thank you so much for the information, I have learned a lot and now definitely have a better idea on what I need plus the costs (which I didn't really see it would be that high 😢) which I imagine would be higher now as you did this 3 years ago. I think a generator will help too. Cheers. Kim
As a carer for my wheelchair bound husband and ex grey nomad caravaners we enjoy watching your wonderful family living the dream, brings much joy to our very different lifestyle now.....keep safe out there and the videos coming.
So, this popped up as I was trolling YT for offroad caravan reviews. What a cracking post. Cheers to you and the family. We hope you're living the dream and travelling safe. 🇦🇺

Very informative, will watch a few times for it to sink in, just bought a Snowy River SR18 with solar and a generator for fully off the grid, stuff paying park fees, even the side of the road will do me overnight.
Great episode. Thanks! Hot tip for you Justin. Wattage divided by voltage equals amperage. 4500 watt / 12 v = 375 amps before it tripped out. Impressive!!!
This was so good. Thank you. It’s not the wife who needs appliances, I never dry my hair, no toasters or sandwich makers.. It’s the hubby with laptop running all sat, large monitor, (for both our old eyes) electric guitars, mics and power amp for recording songs . No idea what his amp pull will be but that is my dilemma. I’m the one researching ahead of getting him into a van so I can travel.

When you were reading the small enerdrive gauge you were reading the minus watts, I believe this is what's being pulled from the battery. The solar input then needs to be added to see the exact power draw from the appliance. For instance the 700w toaster was pulling approx 550w plus adding the solar input of 150w =700w just as an example. Just to clarify the readings. You did explain this for the aircon but not the others. (I did start writing this half way through then saw the air con bit. Had to edit lol) Love your vids and the awesome setup you have. Keep up the great work and thanks.
Excellent video guys, all explained in simple easy to understand terms, not like an electrical engineer! Great work that gives people a way better understanding of the benefits of a well thought off grid electrical system. 👍
For the hair. Use the wagon exhaust. Blow dry, run the hair across, straighten and the if you want to change color, rev it up and there you go, blonde to brown to black, all comes down to timing.

Superb TIAV episode (again!). I took heaps of good notes. It would seem to me that a lot of caravanists could get away with around 200Amp battery and a 2000watt inverter. - That means you could pretty much run everything except the air con (and maybe not a kettle) - or perhaps I have misunderstood this TIAV video tutorial?
Perfect timing, was on my to do list today to look into off grid solutions if I purchase a caravan this year. A lot more to think about then simply buying a lithium battery! 🤣
Wow! Can't wait to see that 23ft caravan when it roles out. A bit more realestate for Bec to play with and more roof top room for solar panels. Throughly enjoy your travels.
My husband and I have ordered a motorhome. We have contacted an Enerdrive agent to put a system like yours in while it's being built. Could you tell me about your hot water system. Is it both gas and electric or electric only? We are set to head off in June 2023 with no end date. We can't wait.
Hey guys. Just wanted to say that when we first got our van all this stuff went over my head. Now I TOTALLY get what you are saying. I also agree there is nothing like free camping with creature comforts. 👍
Bloody great video guys, haven't come across one this informative in real time usage. No questions left unanswered(for me anyway) Damn good fishing in SA, looking forward to the Blue swimmers and whiting vids. Thanks heaps.Safe travels.
Looking at buying a caravan really soon. What do you recommend front entry door or toward the rear? Not sure of pros and cons... thanks guys my Mrs is all in, thanks to watching you guys!!!
Another brilliantly informative vlog guys ... Justin I hate to be the bearer of bad news , but Bec pronounced Tefal correctly , they're a company here in France and their name comes from TEFlon and ALuminium . On this one it's 1-0 to Bec 😉
My wife and I recently travelled out to Charlotte plains sheep station near Cunnamulla. We stayed there for 3 nights sleeping at the Shearer's sheds and bathed at the artesian bore with a couple of pelicans. Have you and the family ventured out there? If not it's worth a look.
Great video guys, very informative. You nail everything Justin you are like a walking encyclopaedia lol. I can’t wait to show hubby this video tonight when he’s home from work. I would love to do this in our van. Only problem is being a pop top, we would never be able to push top up 😄😄😄
Very informative video Justin & Bec. That sure is a great power setup you have there for free camping. Very envious lol. Look forward to seeing your SA videos and the hot fishing you're getting into atm.
Thanks for the post, I am learning a lot in preparation for our own journey. Could you please do a video on water. Specifically your usage and water carrying and saving tips. Also, how do you arrange to have things sent to you when you are on the move. Keep the dream alive. X

Just a question: For all the different appliances when you stated the 'power' use on your ePro monitor and amps drawing from battery were you forgetting to take into account the solar power that was coming in at the time? (With the A/C at the end you did include the solar charge coming in) A great setup though.

Thx for the info. If you want to clean your coffee machine like you said it needed in a video. You just simply put enough water in it for two cycles with a teaspoon or so of cheap vinegar and put an empty pod into the machine. .Then use up the vinegar/water by cycling a couple of cups to empty the water tank on the machine . Then a couple of cycles of clean water with the empty pod in it. Just don't use Becs fav coffee cup to do it in otherwise she will not be happy. Use another mug which can be washed clean later.
I run Victron it allows me to use house panels 54v and the victron then steps it down to 12v 54v equals 45 plus amps 12v and I made a 580amp hour lithium battery 200 amp bms I can run my aircon for 5 hours more if I running solar
Awesome video guys. Hopefully launching around Australia with the family full time next year. Just doing some Reno's to our van at the moment in preparation. May I ask what fridge you went with? I'm just about to rip out our 3 way & put a compressor 12v in.
I would be interested in knowing how much power would charging the laptop use off-grid? I made the mistake last week of leaving the laptop on charge while off-grid from early afternoon till about 10pm at night while working on the laptop. About 11pm we lost all power with 0%. Had to wait till morning before we could recharge with the generator. A lesson learnt there.
I must be going deaf.. Without having the sound on 100% and living on the edge for when a music break kicks in and deafens me, I can barely hear Justin. Tuned out at 4 minutes in, will try again when I can have the volume up on the TV .
Hello, well great video, you explained everything well to those that have problems understanding how many watts everything uses. Have a fabulous week. We have creature comforts but for us we have lived on a boat so we understand. We only free camp because we travel with 13 dogs. Anyway stay safe.🤗
Awesome video guys! I watched your first guide when you got this van but it went a little over my head. A revision was perfectly timed as we are now in the process of designing our build - so thank you :) . Question: If you love the induction cooker & webber so much, would you do away with the gas cooker next time? Also, why don't you use the microwave to heat water instead of the jug? Is a microwave useful? Cheers guys - love your lifestyle and beautiful family. From NZ
Would love to know a bit more about your washing machine for sure and how she goes and how you’ve set it up. Really don’t want to go without washing on the road and this looks perfect.
The refrigerator in my caravan ran on 240volts at a powered site at night. The fridge remained cold without power for 8 hours, so charging it every night was enough to keep our food safe. It switched to 12 volt as an accessory off the car to van electrical plug. If we had no 240 volt powered site, the refrigerator could be run by lighting the gas. The fridge was 3 way powered. We were cooking with gas so we only needed a few battery lights. Do you need solar? Can the car engine charge the solar batteries for overnight power?
We have a small poptop van, 2 people, 200Ah enerdrive battery and 360w of solar on roof. With 2 way electric fridge we can still cook electrically (amazingly convenient), on poor solar days we put out an additional 150W portable solar panel to help our fixed panels. Additional panel feeds batteries via its own MPPT controller. Portable panel can be relocated during the day to get more energy than equivalent fixed. Fall back for very bad solar days is to cook by gas instead of electric. If you have DC2DC Charger for car to charge caravan battery then even with zero solar the battery is adequately charged provided you are driving car/caravan for say minimum 3 hours per day.
Can you tell us what type of glass solar panels you are using, and your experience with them. I know that there are 2 types of solar panels - monocrystalline or polycrystalline. Thanks
Hi Justin and Bec. Just a query. We were told by a caravan dealer the other day not to have a 4 seasons hatch. We had the metal one in our previous van which we loved. I know you have 4 seasons in the Sunseeker but we’re told that they do not close properly and let all the dust in. How do you find this, do you find with or without the Carofan, does dust come in. We don’t like the other hatches we had in previous vans because while travelling we were advised to have the blind in the open position which allows sun to come into the van all the time. We cut a piece of corflute and placed it up in the hatch in a permanent position while travelling and stationary. Thanks for the info on off grid power.
Gday Justin I don’t think you raised the point of explaining amps draw! Most people would or should know but for the laymen that would not know. Eg: amps draw per hour. Got a lot out of that vid mate cheers

I must be going deaf.. Without having the sound on 100% and living on the edge for when a music break kicks in and deafens me, I can barely hear Justin. Tuned out at 4 minutes in, will try again when I can have the volume up on the TV .
the sound is fine on Macbook Pro ans IPad...I think you just need to turn up your TV
Thanks for sharing your setup guys. Entered the comp.
Btw your FB page is no longer showing any posts.
Have a fantastic 2021
Happy new year!
Hello, well great video, you explained everything well to those that have problems understanding how many watts everything uses. Have a fabulous week. We have creature comforts but for us we have lived on a boat so we understand. We only free camp because we travel with 13 dogs. Anyway stay safe.🤗
Thanks for watching!
Hey Justin what have you mounted your fridge on and where did you get it?
It’s a mount supplied by Norweld who build the canopy
@@TripInAVan thanks guys 👍🏼
Thanks guys! This is great info for our van build. On another note, Justin where did you buy the anti-rattle shim kit from please?
Just on ebay. it was only $30
Awesome video guys!

Love your videos, could you give us your top ten best free camps you have stayed at. Couldn't hear all Becs favorite places. Thanks again.
Great idea!
Would love to know a bit more about your washing machine for sure and how she goes and how you’ve set it up. Really don’t want to go without washing on the road and this looks perfect.
Watch at the Farm episode.
Check out our Life On The Farm Video. We show you how it works in there.
As always relevant and great info 🙌 definitely putting this system in our van! Appreciate you sharing as all questions are now answered!
Glad it was helpful!
Cheers for the video! Such useful and great information helping us set up our system for our lap next year!
Just upgrading battery system now, thanks to a lot of info you have shared. So thanks again guys, very much appreciate this and all your vids.👍
Cheers mate
Awesome real world info n great usable discount codes. Loving what you guys do
Thanks mate
The refrigerator in my caravan ran on 240volts at a powered site at night. The fridge remained cold without power for 8 hours, so charging it every night was enough to keep our food safe. It switched to 12 volt as an accessory off the car to van electrical plug. If we had no 240 volt powered site, the refrigerator could be run by lighting the gas. The fridge was 3 way powered. We were cooking with gas so we only needed a few battery lights.
Do you need solar? Can the car engine charge the solar batteries for overnight power?
Great info guys, have you any thoughts on a Solar Blanket or plug in Solar panels while you're parked up ?
I second that question 😁 help!!
Your roof is so clean!!!
You guys have been a huge inspiration for me making some changes and getting out and seeing Aus more. Legends. Another great video!
Thanks Justin.. for sharing your knowledge and info on solar and off grid setup..Thanks Bec for the great camera work 😁Cheers 🍻
Thanks again!
Can you tell us what type of glass solar panels you are using, and your experience with them. I know that there are 2 types of solar panels - monocrystalline or polycrystalline. Thanks
Hi love your VD rough cost for set up and company that did it please
FYI if you divide the wattage by 12 (12v) you will get your current draw on your batteries.
Great video! You can buy descaling from nespresso. Its super easy, take minutes and not expensive either 😊
Great idea!
white vinegar and water 50/50 mix.......cheaper than descaler and works the same....
Gday Justin I don’t think you raised the point of explaining amps draw! Most people would or should know but for the laymen that would not know. Eg: amps draw per hour. Got a lot out of that vid mate cheers
Yeah, i think he was confusing amps and amp hours
