How To Build A Small Patio DIY step 7. Laying Pavers

- Step 7 in building a small DIY paver patio is laying the pavers. If you've done the base and sand correctly, this is one of the easier steps.
Lay the pavers onto your sand one at a time, making sure to keep them all in line. On this patio we're using a herringbone pattern, so there will be lots of cuts around the edges.
When you get to the edges, mark the cut with a pencil. Then cut the brick with an angle grinder and set it in place.
Once the bricks are all in place, compact them with a vibratory compactor or hit them with a mallet and 2x4. The 2x4 method works great on a small patio.
Next, clean the pavers with a blower and spread your grout sand. In this case, we're using polymeric sand that hardens when it gets wet.

Omg that blade on that grinder is crazy 😂😂
Why not? We have 10 fingers. One less won't make a difference
Proper cowboys. Dangerous too. Not laid tight. You never use a grinder without a guard. Buy a bigger one that suits the job and you’ll never get it down with a hammer. All in all this is how not to do it. Fools
Everyone takes the grinder guard off.
@@claytonmallia9892 its basically just a disc with find sandpaper on the edge. the only way you are losing a finger to it is if you keep it there for a long time applying a lot of pressure.
@@gredystar8333surely your joking? The disc spins around 8000rpm if it shatters and the bits hit you you wouldn’t just be losing a finger more likely you’ll be dead
Beautiful job
That grinder without a guard is a definite nono ,trust me i removed the guard from a baby grinder once ,once only nearly lost fingers.
Nice big chip on that one cut
It’s the top of the block you plonka 😂
no chips apart from on your shoulder
That looks very well done! Great job!!
You are supposed to run a wacker plate over it with the sand 🇬🇧
Yup, definitely do

IT HARDENS WHEN YOU GET IT WET
🙄
Wow! Im gonna do my own patio myself. Save me thousands of $$ to pay someone on an easy job. Thank u for this tuitorial. Ill save this vid and play it again when i stsrt mine. 🙏🙏❤️❤️👍👍
for all of those who are listening to this use a wet saw not a grinder.
How about showing how to put in the proper base.
Finally someone said it 😂
U put water al over it and sweep it into the joints ..
Heringbone pattern would be angled 45 degrees to the existing pavement. This would actually be an L or elbow pattern!
It’s a 90 degree herringbone
A herringbone can be in any direction. It's the pattern of the block themselves that make it a herringbone.
Eventually the color fades and the weeds grow in between the cracks. Stamped concrete is a much better choice....for me at least.
Excellent cuttings.
Nice thale guy didn't lose any fingers. 4.5 inch grinder with a much larger cutting wheel
Brick chisel and mallet - by hand, like a true craftsman, is the ONLY way to go.
This is great work tha ks😊
That sand isnt the only thing that hardens when you get it wet.
And after a winter you have to fix the ones that have heaved up !
use gray sand with red pavers.
Safety grinder
Amen nba amen
Great job. Great explanation.
Ah the little bricks of yesterday. Seems large brick is all.people use now. I had the misfortune of laying a 4 inch thick driveway block. The biggest block was 109 lbs and the other two were smaller at 79 lbs and 30 lbs.
Havent had small brick in 20 years.
nice
Nice...👍👍👍👍
Whacker plate?
Nice job bro
So dangerous taking off guard of grinder
Nice freaking job!
Polymeric gets moldy
…the schleem is later repurposed for later batches…
wow bro no guard on the grinder well at least he has a ppe on lol 😂
Slag/chip stone is better for your base...the ants can't get it out of there, creating a cavity and sinking your pavers, like they can with sand. At least it's not hard to fix every couple years!

I don’t take tips from pros who dont use pro tools
I usually just rent a proper table saw - it’s not worth losing a finger, and the cuts are much cleaner and accurate!
Chop saw with 14” diamond blade works better👍
Why the blower? Doesn't look like there is anything to blow away
The blower gets rid of anything really small that could get missed by the broom, like small bits of dirt, dust, or even pollen. You want toe surface as clean as possible so nothing gets into the polymeric sand when it hardens.
Great job 👍
instead of sand use 1/4-10 gravel
Yes this, I prefer to use 3/8 cs, locks in and drains better, won’t wash out or settle nearly as much and if it rains while you’re doing a big job you won’t have to rescreed it
Nice !
1 day you will have only 1 hand. (If you are lucky)
Where did you get those pavers?
Don’t use sand. Use 3/8’s chips.
What no compactor plate 😂
Get a guard fitted to your cutter!
How much grade angle did you slope away from the house foundation?
1 inch per 6 feet.
@@Gambrick Ok, thanks
Is that sand on the bottom to compact?
Maybe worth investing in a larger grinder for the sake of those finger! That blade is too big for the grinder and no guard. Come on people
That block hole you left was useless
Way to screw up that large seam.
That's for weed growth! 🤣
No guard on the grinder😱😱😱😭😭😭
Dude you dont use vibrating plate ?
For large patios and driveways we do but not for something this small.
@@Gambrick if you do this work for me i will smash you with iron bar...small area when you dont use it is like 2x1m ,other cases you used it...
👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
Be careful with that grinder, youl take your hand off. Dont use gloves either
Who can spot the fail brick
Gaps 🙈
This must be an old video……no one does patios or driveways with sand anymore
You’d be surprised how many do, I prefer 3/8 crushed stone or stone dust if it’s specified in the plans but 9 times out of ten it’s gonna be peastone
I like the finger choper 5000 you use to cut the brick. Good way to get an OSHA violation by posting this video. If this was contract work then you gotta follow OSHA rules.
OSHA doesn't give a shit about 1 man. I can promise you they are NEVER coming to his job sites.
Dont use gloves with grinder
Thats a dangerous tool
Amatuer hour
Sand base, lmfao!!!
There’s some very amateur mistakes going on there 🤦🏻 tidy job tho
Nice unsafe blade with no guard
I take it you never worked in anything construction related
@AdolfClinton-js7ur
I own a contruction company for 25 years not one accident so yes I know what to do
For the love of God
Knee pads
I guess u dont care for fingers !
Can not subscribe to this channel???????😂😂😂😂😂😂 why
Ugly round cut
Floor should dry before apply sand
The third corner brick you laid fell short and left a nasty gap in the corner. Unacceptable. And a hard fix, as the rest of the brick is already laid.
Lesbian
Dont ever do patios again thankyou that thing will go uneaven after the first winter
Totally wrong
Amateur hour I bet you don’t offer warranty, grinder I’m laughing and the cheap sand smh you also used stone that didn’t even match the old one
Cowboys. Shocking wrong
Not good
I think it’s stupid job
Ryobi tools=hacks=hack work
I would have pulled that whole thing up if I saw that big ass gap in the end… just restart and work to the house where the gap wouldn’t be noticeable.
Thats why you buy red tools
