- Discover the serendipitous coincidence that led this exquisite tiara to Sotheby’s. Attributed to one of the most renowned and celebrated jewellers in history, Fabergé, this piece was a wedding gift to Crown Princess Cecilie of Prussia. Daniela Maschetti, Sotheby’s Chairman for Jewellery, first came across the tiara when she saw a portrait of Princess Cecilie hanging in a castle while on holiday. A few months later, she was sent a photo of the real thing. This stunning tiara is now a highlight of our upcoming sale, Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels (14 May | Geneva).

This is GORGEOUS. It would be wonderful to be able to see it in a museum and admire it in reality. Best on a fully gowned mannequin to bring out the splendor.
The portrait is beautiful.
Bravissima Daniela ! Wonderful piece and your comment !
It was a wedding gift from her grandfather Grand Duke Michael Nicholiavich (youngest son of czar Nicholas the 1st) Its clearly listed in the order books from Faberge

ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS
This is incredible, what a stunning piece.
Stunning.
Such a beautiful peice of fine jewellery. Like many jewellery lost or found it belongs with its owner or family, as each peice holds a magnificent story and place in history, especially amongst royal history. Its also, lovely to peices that havent fallen into private hands and locked away, it would be nice to see this worn today again, by Sophie, Princess of Prussia.
There is no such thing as Prussia, there is no kingdom, there is no princess. They decided to sell it why not let it go to the highest bidder.
Gorgeous
Would be nice if both the tiara and her portrait could be on public display in an appropriate museum somewhere.
I prefer the public display of someone wearing it.
Cecilie was a daughter of Frederick Francis III, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Grand Duchess Anastasia Mikhailovna of Russia.
Her sister Alexandrine married King Christian X of Denmark and their granddaughter is the present Queen Margaret II.
Cecilie was named after her maternal grandmother Princess Cecilie of Baden who became Olga Feodorovna, which she took upon her conversion to the Orthodox faith and marriage to Grand Duke Michael Nikolaevich of Russia.
Cecilie was the daughter of Friedrich Franz III von Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Anastasia Mikhailovna Romanova to be more precise. . . Somewhere in there the fact she was of the Romanov line gets lost without indicating names properly here. . .
Beautiful , Amazing Wonderful 💯💯💯
Such a magnificent tiara worn superbly by the last German Crown Princess.
Never noticed about this Prussia princess at all!
Thank you, merci.
Be nice to see a pretty lady wearing it for a special occasion
I genuflect to Daniela, I love the fact she tried on the tiara. (Bucket list goal) I almost had a brain aneurysm when I was able to try on a 32 carat diamond. My head would most likely explode had this been placed on my head.
they make it sound like nobody else can make it !!! ..
They could make it, but there is only 1 Faberge.
ПРИНЦЕССА СЕССИЛЬ КРАСАВИЦА !!!
How very sad that they have to sell their heirloom jewels!
Wasnt that prince philip sister ?
And here I thought I had seen pictures of Princess Sophie of Prussia wearing this tiara. I must have been mistaken... :-(
It was a very popular silhouette of the era so you might have seen a similar one.
Princess Sophie of Prussia wore the Prussian Meander tiara at her wedding. It is similar in design and also in this video: At 1:34 left the Meander tiara, right the one that was auctioned.
Sos his sister was named after her I googled it
I hate how these royal jewels keep being put off for auction. So wish they could stay in royal hands.
I disagree completely!
they should be worn by whoever can afford them and enjoyed for their spectacular beauty!
what royal hands? germany has been a republic for over 100 years now. These people would all be taxi drivers and waiters if they didn't flog off the old swag every 20 years or so lol@@franzgrabe1
@@franzgrabe1 Yes... of course ...by the 'nouveau riches' who have won lotteries perhaps and can afford to trampsy around like crowned hogs from the back alleys while they have no class. . . Does not look good. . . It makes Hollywood celebrities and the like look like 'wannabe' idiots wearing tiaras as well to the point it is disrespectful. . . Totally ridiculous. . . While I am aware that there are deserving princesses who cannot afford such items, these should be bought and gifted to them. . .
@Thornback You cannot make a blanket statement like this - do please educate yourself before coming out with comments such as you have. You also fail to recognize that many royals sacrificed to ensure peace for their people, prevent wars and form alliances to defend their countries and so much more... this you would not understand evidently. . .
@Thornback so what? Where the hell do you think you so-called masters helped you with communication?

It is missing several stones. It may have not been maintained.
I watched it twice, and I did not see any evidence of missing stones. Could you provide time markings of where the empty settings are visible?

They’re lying so they seem knowledgeable
It was hard enough, processing the speaker's heavily-accented English, without that busy, nervous little music DROWNING HER OUT.
Daniela Mascetti who joined Sotherby's is not 'English' - she is of Italian origin and her English here was well-paced, perfectly understandable and classy in tone. All you need is to exercise a bit of patience to grasp her presentation. As for the music, it was not loud enough to drown her.
Yes agreed the music was too loud
@@RoyalSnowbird 0/10 for your reading comprehension. She was most *definitely* speaking English with a heavy accent. I totally agree with op, difficult to understand such a strong accent with the unnecessary addition of the music.
@@JulieWallis1963 Oh - ...trust me, there is nothing wrong with my reading comprehension - especially, all the more while I see personal attacks here stemming from you, it speaks VOLUMES as to your lack of manners poor sod!
