80MPH Brands Hatch Track Day Crash - Clio 200

  • Brands Hatch January 2023, I think it needs to be seen to show just how easily/quickly things can go wrong.
    Find it hard not to cringe watching as you can clearly hear me being way to greedy on the throttle before the apex, diff pulls the rear and it was just too little too late on the correction. Onto the grass and it was then damage limitation, 80 mph into the barrier, I was expecting a big hit but didn’t anticipate being launched backwards into the air. Initial impact split the fuel tank filler allowing 40ltrs of VPower to flow in, luckily the impact also ripped the front dash off pulling my isolator connector.
    Sitting on the grass with your car upside down puts things into perspective and I certainly have no regrets on the money spent on safety. Helmet, FHR and roll cage allowed me to walk away from this, I don’t think the gdfautofab cage has a scratch on it. Also a shout out to the marshals and medics who were there before I even got out 👍
    v2 is being built.

    Scary man. To your credit, looking at your video, I don’t think I would’ve done anything different as far as trying to correct after oversteer. You didn’t slam on the brakes. Just didn’t have enough space to correct. Rear end just didn’t seem to want to sit down. Stuff like that happens when you’re at the limit. Glad it didn’t turn out worse.

    Jesus christ. Just been sent over to me and first thought is how well the safety gear works. Biggun - but glad you're OK. Seeing something like this makes you reevaluate your own choices.

    Great to see you're ok! I initially wondered what the fluid leaking was until you said "can smell fuel". Glad you got out unscathed and all is well!

    Needed to get that opposite lock on as soon as the back end started to slide to have any chance of saving that!

      Good to see somebody finally comment about that. the driver needs to learn how to control oversteer

    • @senvaitis
      @senvaitis ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. Unless this driver improves on oversteer control, he will end up like this again and again. It is strange that nobody talking about it in comments...

      He gave it as much as was appropriate. Same with keeping on the throttle. I had a spin off at Mallory; the rear came round and I gave it full lock... the rear gripped up, snapped back and spun me off in the opposite direction. No chance of saving that, it's not possible to go from lock to lock fast enough. In my case, I should have given it less lock and mashed the throttle.
