- I've been looking for something to clean up the hideous rear fender/license plate holder on my Rebel 1100 and FINALLY Burly Brand has exactly what I was looking for!
🚨 UPDATE TO THE INSTALL! 🚨 The kit now comes with a diode that is needed in order for your cruise control to continue to work! Check out more about that here- • The Rebel 1100's Cruis... i
This Rebel 1100 fender delete/tail tidy was a much more in-depth install than I anticipated, but the results are sooo worth it! And believe me- if I can do it, you can do it! I have ZERO experience doing electrical work and I was still able to pull this off.
So...what do you think of the Burly Brand license plate kit for the Rebel 1100? Let me know in the comments!

As mutch as i apreiciate all the effort to show the install, just a quick warning for anyone in Australia wanting to use this kit. This kit has 3 problems that will have your bike not comply with safety inspections
The first is actually addressed in the video as we are required to have the license plate lights.
The second is that you will need to find away to put the rear reflector back on the bike as it is also required to keep the police happy.
The third is that you will need to put spacers on the lights as they are just a little bit close together. They need to be 30cm from center to center to satisfy the minimum distance between turn signals in Australia.
The only other issue is that if you plan to put a rear rack or trunk on the back then don't use this kit as it will not allow the plate to be seen at a 45% andgle down wich again will make it an issue with the police due to fixed cameras not being able to get a clear shot of your number plate if you happen to accidently break the law by not noticing the speed limit signs.
Thanks for another great video. You are my first stop for all Rebel 1100 content! (I’m a fellow Marylander - currently in Los Angeles. Love hearing the sound of home in your voice.)
This video and your other one dealing with hyper flash and the cruise control issue helped me immensely. Thank you.
OMG you've mellowed on the finish imperfections!!!!
this is a very thorough video, a lot of videos like this skip a lot of little stuff, great stuff!👍
keep nitpicking! it really brings a layer of honesty to the unboxing and keeps us content that you're not a shill! Also, what a great idea: let's use a 5mm bolt and then right next to it use a different size for no apparent reason so you have to keep changing your tools! I hate it when they do that!
Thanks dude! I’ll always keep it 100% honest with you guys! I hate when you can tell someone’s only saying something because the company wants them to. I’ll never steer you guys wrong! And I agree about the different sizes! By the end I had so many different tools scattered everywhere 😅😂
Those tag lights look REALLY good. Job well done. I think the washers were supposed to go under the nut head. You usually use them to reduce vibration on the nut.
Thanks man! Yea I was gonna put them on the back, but the stock bolts had worn a circle in my registration stickers that was wider than the head of the new lights, so I did this to keep it cleaner looking. On the bright side, if the nuts vibrate loose they can’t go anywhere since the wires go through everything. Planning to keep an eye on it and hit it with Loctite if necessary!
No way I would cut my stock wires on my brand new bike
Looks great. Good call on the tail lights. Loving it
Nice work especially doing it with a hangover. Looks so much cleaner.
Thanks Marc!! 🙏🏻
Good job with the install even if it was a pain in the a$$!! It does make it look so much better. I’d love to see someone videoing from behind when braking and turning while riding. You could even do when riding with your friend with the DCT for comparison purposes. I’d make the change as well as long as the visibility of me braking etc isn’t worse than stock. Thanks for posting and going through the install issues for the rest of us!
Thanks man! And GREAT idea! I was trying to figure out a way to do a comparison and hadn’t even thought I could just put it next to Amir’s bike 😂 I’ll have to see if I can make that happen!
Looks really good but honesty it's more trouble than it's worth. Hopefully they'll come out with a plug in setup.
I voiced my concern about that to Burly Brand and they said they hope to have a true plug and play kit ready in the next year! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
you can get some splices that he had or some that we call "hand shake splices. it looks hard but is really not. you can even use heat shrink instead of wrapping it in electrical tape.
Just FYI, I bought a few things from Burly Brand today on 2/12/22 and your discount code is still working. 🤘🏼
Great video and love that you have that space now!
Thanks! This garage space is a game changer!
You should have used a piece of Scotch tape to hold the washers on it only needs a little piece and it will be behind the fender and no one will see.
My kit just came in and will giving this a try tomorrow or Saturday
Sick!!! Looks like you got flames going on! Sick!
you can always buy the right connectors for the OEM plugs there is no need to cut off and solder the cables/plugs from the OEM light/turn signals
Where could I buy the right connectors?
@@azel8rrp169 any good motorcycle online shop should have these, just search for Honda turn signal connectors
i'm ordering one of these looks real nice. Great video
Love the honesty and the beginning of the video.
Thanks dude!! I appreciate you! 🙏🏻
2 hours of the 2hr 15min passenger side mirror replacement on my daughter's car is taking the door apart to remove and replace the wiring for the mirror. Remove cover, remove 3 screws, cut wires strip ends old mirror gone. Cut strip wires, 3 screws install new mirror slip wires into splicers heat replace cover 20 minutes.
Thank you for you video. without it i would not be able to remove mins and put on my short rear fender!!!
hideous rear fender/license plate holder
I'm Curious' Were you not able to just the same lights
since the wires were already plugin play? If not why? Thanks'
That looks so much better!
Agreed! I’m so pumped!
A harbor freight heat gun and a selection of the new heat shrink/low temp solder splices make life so much easier. Troublesome wire routing!!! I got something for it's Punkass!!!
Nice job Burch. I noticed that the tail lights were blinking fast. Because they are LED you should replace the relay (probably near the battery). They make different relays for LED signals which account for the difference in power draw from LEDs. I just did that for my VTX.
My first thought was that it needs line conditioners
I changed my Rebel 1100 front and back flashers with LED custom ones and replaced the relay as well - an easy job, as it is handily located under the seat. Perfectly cures the hyperflash issue.
Yup I’ll probably knock that out in the future! Honestly it doesn’t bother me much though.
I'm very surprised it's hyper flashes. It's led from the factory.
@@todortodorov6178 I used the kit and LEDs Burch did and tried multiple relays; none worked. I still have hyperflashing. What worked for you?
Looks clean. Hopefully the next install is a little smoother.
Thanks man! I definitely need to pick an easier install next time 😅😂
Great vid Burch !!! 🤙🏽
Thanks dude!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Where's the link for the bullet turn signal lights? Can they be purchased separately?
Can the license plate holder be removed from the kit? I want to get the side bracket license plate holder and just use this fender kit to get rid of the big plastic dongle. Do you know if that would work? I can’t find any information on this. Any help would be sweet. Thanks man. Keep up the great work!
FYI tie a piece of sewing thread to the washer and lower it down and put in the bold while holding on to the sewing thread. After you thread the bolt just snap off the sewing thread
No nylock or lock washers at minute 9? Wonder why BB chose to even have connectors installed when they need to be cut off anyway (minute 12:46)?
I’m assuming minute 9 is the install of the fender bracket, and I almost put some Loctite or something, but even the factory bracket didn’t seem to have any kind of locking mechanism. I guess they figure that since the fender covers the bolt head, there’s no way it could back out even if it came loose?
As for the connectors, I believe Burly Brand just uses the same turn signals for every application. So depending on your application they may or may not need the bullet connectors. I’m sure there’s still a way to use the bullet connectors if you wanted to buy the female sides, but I just snipped em since it seemed easier and that’s what the directions called for.
They do plan on converting every one of their kits to TRUE plug and play next year though! They’ll be starting with their most current model year and working their way back.
Normally I'd comment on the video topic or ask a question, but this time I'd like to point out how I hope we see a camera upgrade soon! I love your videos and how helpful they've been, but I have to say that a lot of your viewers are people like me who find you after turning on the *motorcycle enthusiast* switch, and part of experiencing these bikes and rides with your viewers is definitely having really crisp clear visuals so that they feel like they're right there with you! This is just meant as constructive criticism and not to bash your current setup, but I really hope we see videos pump out where we can see the bikes as you are, and get the lifeofburch experience.
I’d love to upgrade in the future, but for now getting a new camera would mean bills aren’t getting paid 😭 Plus, the GoPro is just SO much more convenient for everything than hauling around/setting up a legit dslr camera. Hopefully one day though!
Also worth mentioning that the lighting in the new garage doesn’t do the camera any favors. I plan on upgrading the lighting soon which should hopefully help!
Awesome vid bro love the mod vids 👌
Thanks brotha!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Bro I'm waiting for day 2 of the rebel 300👍
Us too! It’s been cold af and the 300’s license plate flew off somewhere on the highway so I have to wait for another 😅😅😅
Do the new lights have built-in reflectors? Maryland transportation code 22-205 requires motorcycles to have a reflector which was removed with this modification that could potentially result in a traffic stop and citation for the violation.
Hey man, I've been buying stuff while waiting for my 1100 to be delivered, and I read somewhere that this kit interferes with cruise control? Was wondering if you experienced that at all?
Curious about the turn signal while having the brake deployed...is it just one solid brake light while the signal is blinking?
I wouldnt mind a fender delete but I know my wife would want to ride from time to time. This looks like a good clean-up option if I got a rear seat.
Really enjoyed these installation videos! Will you be installing engine guards like you did on the rebel 500?
Thanks dude! I’m still undecided on engine guards. I’d like some, but I’m not a huge fan of anything that’s out there yet.
Great video, like always. Being one of the few videos around about the electrical system. Is there a Acc port on the Rebel 1100, if not what could be used as an Acc port. Some accessories require a Acc connection in order to work. Any ideas
Un-related question.
What's ur new ground clearance after installing ur longer rear shocks?
Yahoooo
If u just black shrink wrap the plate light wires, u may not even notice them back there.
I'm thinking about removing the fender while keeping the fender structure and attaching a luggage rack to that fender structure. Then replacing the fender with a swing arm mud guard with a license plate and light cluster attached to the mud guard, like the Rocket 3 has.
Yea I was thinking about doing something like that! It’s just a pain since the wires have to go through the plate. I’ll have to check it out in the daylight to see if it noticeable enough for me to want to dive into it any further.
@@LifeOfBurch looks good tho! Thx for the vids! Keep'm coming.
Is there one for the 500?
Not to my knowledge. I think I’ve seen similar-ish ones, but not this specific one.
@@LifeOfBurch tradgedy mate haha
I wonder if this would work on the 2024 rebel 300, I like the way this kit looks but I’m unsure if it’ll work with my bike lol even tho they are basically the same just the 1100 is higher CC
1100 has a wider rear fender
great video brother straight to the point and really detailed. 👍
could this fit the 500 with some tinkering?
Do you happen to know if this same kit would work on the 500?
Fix wobble with new shock???
I would like to add a rear fender eliminator to a 2022 Honda Rebel 1100 DCT. I can't find compatible information online. As you've mentioned, I don't like that oval shape over the rear tire. Takes away from the sleekness. Please, advise. Thanks.
Looks great man... I kinda miss a traditional brake light though.. living in nyc I trust no one behind me.. lol
Agreed! I’m gonna keep an eye on how visible I am now that the big stock light is gone. If it seems sketchier I may wire in an accessory light or a light license plate Fran or something. Safety is way more important than looks, so we’ll see!
@@LifeOfBurch stay safe man...
Good one Burch! I only thought if you could have shown how the lights work when turn signal are on with the break lights. Just curious.
Good point! I hadn’t even thought about that. I’ll have to see if I can grab a quick clip of it.
looks great man!!
Thanks dude!! 🙌🏻🤘🏻
I feel someone will eventually come out with a plug and play kit
What's a good replacement for the brake light assembly on a 2017 Rebel? I've looked all over and all I can find is cheap crap on eBay
Burch do you have any plans on installing the burly brand stilleto shocks?
Yessir! Hoping to get them put on in the next couple weeks!
hey burch! Just curious how come that one green wire wasnt used and just tucked away and what exactly does that wire do? thinking about doing an install like this. thank you!
Did you find out why?
@@callismo earth wire for the main tail light but since the burly brand kit doesnt have a main tailight you dont use it
@@SimonLi thank you
Do you know if the oem taillight will fit the mount? I wanted to keep the front headlight and rear taillight the same.
Does this fit a 2023 Rebel 500 SE?
Nice one!
Is it compatible wiht the 500 as well though?
Would this work for the 500 as well ?
I got a set of those, too! A Spit Fire wind-shield and heated grips along with the first oil change. I had a passenger seat and padded sissy added, an
'Arlen Ness' left mirror...a handle-end right w/left ordered. (A seat cushion...ie good un' too!) Oh!!! and a 'Two Brothers Exhaaaaust w/silencer and all'!
Next I want 'Anti-Gavity' to be added! PS, I love the anti & cruis C un learned trac to nuttin', too! I was once from shy-town, before 20 years in the military and three (3) ex's and 7! (now spring/almost...2022 March, 19th! What a daY!@.co/mwhewwww!!!!!)🙃
So after this I got the hyper blinking and the cruise control quit working:/
What was that solid green wire that we don’t need for?
That’s the ground wire for the stock brake/running light. I’m assuming it’s not needed since everything is grounded with the turn signal grounds on the new set up.
Dam your man Cave looks awesome 👌
Thanks man! I’m so pumped on having this space!! 🙌🏻
Does this bracket work for a 2022 by any chance because I want to purchase it but I just wanna make sure it’s gonna work
Love this! Except the huge bummer that the turn signals aren’t plug and play.
Great clean setup! Wonder if this could could work on a Honda Rebel 500 2019? cause that tail light is so big
The fender is wider on the 1100
I had my suspicions about the missing plate lights. But that wiring harness bothers me.i have the tools and ability to install it. But I don't wanna have to rewire to go back
Yea I definitely think a true plug and play kit would be huge. I mentioned that to Burly Brand and they said they hope to have that ready within a year or so 🤞🏻
Most states have laws about requiring a brake light, as good as it looks.
When removing bolts on a motorcycle you should always go back with blue loctite cuz everything will vibrate off. 😂
@LifeOfBurch will this kit work with a 2019 Honda Rebel 500?
Great video Mike! I am looking at the De Pretto Moto kit, as it uses the factory turn signals, so no cutting wires there. I wish they made the tail/brake light plug and play as well. I could make up a cable though. I would hate to cut the factory stop/tail light harness!
You can't remove the stock ones from there bracket without cutting the wires.
@@bogdancocarlea Actually you can. They unplug under the tool tray and come through the fender.
@@georgeschwartz3080 but that won't help cause the rubber stems won't fit the aftermarket holder. I had to improvise with mine.
@@bogdancocarlea They fit the DPM ones! One of the reasons I went with them.
@@georgeschwartz3080 could you share a link for that kit please?...
Do we know if this is compatible with the 2020 Rebel 500?
Do they make this for the 300 rebel ?
Question will work on the rebel 300 / 2019 ?
What do you do for a parking permit and/or state inspection sticker?
MD doesn’t have inspection stickers and I don’t need a parking permit for anything. Typically I see people put inspection stickers on the top of their forks though.
Hey nice video as always.
I was wondering about how to properly clean your bike without hurting the finish and so forth.
Thought it could be nice if you were thinking about ideas for videos since im guessing Nina probably hasent tried it yet we could get a newbies perspective on the thing.
Good idea! I’ve had a few people ask about how to properly clean a bike so I may have to give that a shot once it’s warm enough to wash my bike without my hands falling off 😂
@@LifeOfBurch Awesome! And yes, please keep your hands intact!
How did you do that pop up seat release??
Nevermind.. its the 1100
Will they actually do a plug and play version in the future?
They’ve mentioned that at some point this year they plan on going through ALL of their kits and making them plug and play! Not sure how long that process will take, or where along the line they’ll get to this kit, but they did say they want to do that! 🤘🏻
Great ideas and instructions. Have you heard about this ST2 system for breaks and turn signals? Would you consider looking into these as well? How about the stock seats? Any plans?
Is that one of the blinking brake light modules? If so, I had considered something like that. As for seats, if you look back at my videos I’ve had a hell of a time testing out (and ultimately disliking) different seats. Now I have a Corbin Dual Tour seat that’s up next to be tested once it warms up a bit!
The hazard lights come on when braking hard.
Do you know the width of the bike between the foot pegs?
I want to order one but don't know yet if it will fit the door to my storage :)
That looks SO much better with the fender tidied up like that. The NC700X I used to have had the same tail section and I hated it. BONUS: the plate covers your scratches from your stock turn signals.
Great video, BTW. I like how you're recording in the garage now...so much better than the parking lot.
Will it fit the rebel 300?
can it also works for Rebel 500 ?
My question is once this is installed are you able to remount the rear seat and backrest? I am thinking about doing this install myself and want to still make sure I am able to put them back on so my girl can ride still
Yea man! Once it’s installed you can do whatever you want with the backrest and passenger seat! I have my backrest, passenger seat, and saddlebags back on now, I just didn’t show it at the end of the video since most people won’t have those things to put back on.
Not enough brake lights for me… but I’d never put bolts on like that without some loctite… they work loose over time pretty easy.
Darn it. I suck at wires. Wish it would have been plug n play
Looks super DOPE!!!
BUT TO MUCH WORK!!!
Not rocket science problem with washer spacers. Just a dab of tacky grease holds them to new bracket. Bolt it up and wipe any excess grease off.
The Rebel 1100 needs a "Get Kit" Are there any on the market for it?
I’m not familiar. What’s that?
@@LifeOfBurch Because you're a "Young-un" Thats why LOL. In the 70's a "Get Kit" you would buy from the dealer that had a bigger bore cylinder, piston and head that would make the motorcycle faster. A 250 two stroke Suzuki's top speed would be about 70 to 75 mph, with a Get Kit the same bike could go 110 mph. From what I'm told by my nephew Harley-Davidson has a kit called "Screaming Eagle Performance Kit" It's a big bore kit with cams and lifters, everything except the head because you can use the old one. I like the Honda Rebel 1100 but it's not fast. The Kawasaki 650 Vulcan is supposedly faster. Are there any kits for the Rebel 1100?
@@davemartani1529 ahh gotcha! Nope, nothing like that for the 1100 that I know of. It’s the same motor as the Africa Twin essentially though, so it may be worth seeing if anyone has done that on one of those. Not sure where you’re hearing that the Vulcan S is faster, but the Rebel 1100 does 0-60 a full second quicker than the Vulcan S, and same for the 1/4 mile. It’s definitely no slouch!
@@LifeOfBurch Both motorcycles are getting good reviews. I would like a bigger cc engine than the 650 but I would also like motorcycle with a good top speed. Later I'm planning to build a Softail, probably not a Harley though.
It does look clean however I don't like it and here's why. It eliminates the big brake light for two smaller bullet style brake lights that are in a spot that most drives are used to turn signals being. So for me at least I don't know about you but I like being seen and not getting rear ended and becoming someones hood ornament. With that said I'll pass on this. I would rather have the back of my bike look a little ugly rather then to look a little smashed and be maybe me being a little injured or worst a little dead. Don't get me wrong though. I'm all about looks too. But when looks compromise safety that's a no bueno for me. I would give you a safety suggestion. put that remote mounted third brake light on the back of your helmet to help makeup for some of the lost safety of being seen that you too away. Ride safe and keep up the cool video's even if some are not so good of a move. 🙂 👍
Has this afected your cruise control? Mine stopped working after installing aftermarket tail lights.
Aaah man.. are you serious. I just finished my install. It’s storming and can’t try it.
@@BiGMERf have you tried it? Does it still work?...
@@bogdancocarlea didn’t work for me. I put it back to stock. But I’m no pro, many others have gotten it to work.
@@BiGMERf me neither. I took it to my Honda garage and they couldn't find any fault. Their best guess was that the ECU doesn't recognise the indicators and that's why, but it wasn't that cause then I've put just the indicators on and that didn't solve it. Only yesterday I've managed to install the original brake and tag lights on a luggage rack I had made and I can't wait to try it today. Fingers crossed 😁
@@bogdancocarlea did you use the diode ?
Nice work
Thanks brotha!! 🤘🏻
Would be nice if they had a kit for the Rebel 500. Would definitely pick it up. I'm assuming this one wouldn't fit on the 500.
Yea I doubt this would fit. I believe the 500’s fender is a bit more narrow 😔
If you are really keen this looks pretty slick : th-cam.com/video/bIb7rtxxkv8/w-d-xo.html
Nice video Burch. For contrast have you considered painting the floor?
Thanks dude! Not sure that the owner wants me starting to paint stuff so I’m kinda playing it by ear. I’d definitely love to customize this place as much as I can, but also don’t want to throw away money knowing that this is just temporary.
Oh gosh another item I’m gonna have to get 🤣
I don't undersand why the kit doesn't come with the proper plug and play wiring adapters. It would be so much easier for the end user to have this. Cost would be an issue at this price or even if was a bit more, most would glady pay the extra $$ for the ease of the install and time saved. Also saves the stock wires from being cut.
Hey Burch. I have a quick question. I've been searching for crash bars that exclusively fit the Rebel 1100 DCT but all I seem to be finding are ones that fit the 300/500 models. Any suggestions?
Check webike.japan.net! They have a few. I know Daytona and T-Rex both make some, can’t remember the others off the top of my head though.
Why don’t they make one for the 500
