@@siksip3226 I also heard one reviewer mention that but I've not heard that consistently from many reviewers. I guess I'll have to try out the keyboard on the 9th Gen to confirm.
@@jetmartin9501 I can only comment as an owner. Like you, I've had a carbon since gen 6, upgraded last month to a gen 9. Best decision I've made. The keyboard feel has changed, not massively, just a little. Key travel is slightly less than before, but the keyboard isn't mushy, the key coming down to its lowest point is tight and crisp, more so than other thinkpad's. Just took minor adaption time. I wouldn't go back now!
Had two X301s, X1 Carbon Gen 1, Gen 3, X1 Extreme Gen 2 and now the X1 Carbon Gen 9 and I absolutely love it. Some generations have been better to skip, the gen 9 is definitely a keeper. And as always, the durability and build quality of the ThinkPads is next to none. So I will buy any laptop, as long as it's a ThinkPad.

I've been wanting to buy Lenovo X1 Carbon, but I don't have the funds ready for it.
YOU ASKED, SO: I personally don't care for the carbon fiber weave finish. I don't consider it an upgrade at all. Looks like a table cloth. Plain black is much more universal...goes with everything.
I own the Carbon X1 Gen 9. Delivered Wednesday. My first ThinkPad after wanting one for years due to their reputation for durability and excellent keyboard. I type A LOT. Though this CX1G9 has a very shallow travel kb, I like it. I was worried whether I would or not after other reviewers complained about it (and the kb on the Nano, which I almost bought), but I do like it after using it a few days. It's shite compared to my Toshiba Satellite kb from over a decade ago that had DEEPLY indented keys and could take a pounding, but that beast was about 1.5 inches thick or more, so there's that. For this CX1G9's slim chassis and weight, I'm impressed by it's build quality and typing feel. Love the TrackPoint, very responsive and smooth. I generally dislike trackpads, but this one's okay. And the fan is virtually silent so far, though I have yet to put this computer to any serious task since I plan to use it primarily for writing. Small, light, plain black styling, good selection of ports (I still hang on to USB-A), good display, good typing feel and QUIET. Devoid of the usual bloatware one sees on most laptops except what's built into W10 (the clean install I have planned will take care of that crap). So far, I'm in love.
@@ThorsteinKlingenberg That’s correct; the slimmer X1 models have 1.35 mm key travel; the X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga still have 1.5 mm (since the 7th gen Carbon and 4th gen Yoga).

Nice PC. Good keyboard layout for a PC of this screen size. Webcam was fair. Image looked a little blurry (out of focus). 1080p should be the minimum not 720p. Microphone sounded a little muffled but still usable. Display was very good. It will be interesting to see if the replacement unit you get will have a similar or slightly better microphone and camera. Another words will it perform the same or slightly different. You did not mention in this review if this PC works with a pen. Port selection was good but a micro SD slot would be nicer. I would like to see these manufacturers include better user upgradeability for the money one is paying for these units. Nice looking PC on the outside. No matter how good these machines look on the outside functionality should always be number one in deciding to purchase any PC. Anyway as always another great review.
Hi, What is your opinion on FHD+ on this 14 inches screen ? Do you see pixels grid with this resolution ? What is the best scaling % to choose ? Thanks.
I really love 14" display. But still think that hp's x360 15 is better value. What would you say about that Andrew? Although it have Xe grafics , amd's APUs are performing nearly same if not better as I know. How these two models feels different in your hands? Is lenovo more thin and light and better qyality?
Please do a lot of testing of the TrackPoint for the full review. All previous X1 Carbon generations have had serious cursor drift issues with the TrackPoint. The cursor on my Gen 5 drifts several times each hour, which is a productivity killer. I'm trying to decide whether to upgrade to the Gen 9 for that reason alone.
Try take the rubber track point off and put on at a different angle. it's possible it's just putting a bit of side load on it at rest? Seems to help my old x220
@@paulmcnamara4332 Thanks for the suggestion. I bought a packet of the caps years ago and have experimented by cutting them into various shapes and sizes. Those experiments failed. The only thing I've tried that has worked every time is removing the cap and operating the TrackPoint directly from the white post. But that's not sustainable since it takes more effort and is uncomfortable. That said, I'll try your suggestion, but I'm not sure if it's possible to keep it at an angle. It's been interesting in the various forum posts on this problem on various websites (including Lenovo's) that some people have found solutions that work on their machines, but those solutions don't work for others. It's also notable that Lenovo seems content to just ignore the problem since, I suspect, it knows it's now the only dealer in town if you're addicted to the nub. My first laptop was an IBM Thinkpad (with an impressive 6gb hard drive) when I went to IT school in 2000. I've been hooked on nubs ever since.
Looks nice. Some other reviews seem to indicate that (i) the performance is not much better than that of the nano, and (ii) the real life battery life is not much better than that of the nano. As an amateur photographer, I'd like to have seen an SD card reader (full SD card, not micro SD card). I agree that the video and sound qualities could have been better. I have mixed feelings about the (red) navigation nob -- it is convenient, but on a past machine, I tended to get a sore finger after actively using it for a couple of days. Also, the buttons on the top of the navigation pad seem to steal a lot of space. Finally, it annoys me that they have this awkward reversal of the Fn and Ctrl buttons. In my typing, I use the Ctrl button a lot, and with the layout on the Thinkpads, it is much more difficult to hit the Ctrl key. I know I can fix this in bios, but that is not a perfect fix (I'd like the Ctrl key to be big...). Two disadvantages with high resolution screens: (a) they use more power, and (b) Windows doesn't scale menus well, especially with non-MS programs -- so I tend to prefer lower resolution screens. What about the Yoga model? (If the X1 Carbon had pen support, I could probably use it -- I don't write much with pen, but it is useful to have the possibility). And... I'm also curious about the Latitude 9420 -- especially when it comes to its battery life.

If the keyboard is anything like the Nano's, which other reviewers have mentioned, then it's markedly worse than the usual stellar keyboard you get from Lenovo. I had the Nano and found that the keyboard didn't have anything like the tactile, positive action you get with Lenovo. I compared it to my T480s and the Gen 8 Carbon, for reference. This is disappointing since the Gen 8 had already compromised some of the tactile feel of the keyboard in the interest of thinness but was borderline acceptable still (though not as good as the T480s); the new keyboards on the Nano and the Gen 9 Carbon have gone too much in that direction and lost their advantage over the competition as a result.
The M1 MBP certainly is way more efficient, but what good does it do if it comes with the wrong OS for your needs? It all comes down to the platform you need to run.
Yes, I have a 5th gen and it is the last model without this ugly X1 branding on the cover. I think 5th gen is the peak of X1 carbon styling, it is beautiful. @@wetbeans7957 yes, tried balance mode. but it gets 5 minutes with fan cooler on, then 10 minutes off and then 5 minutes again on and so on. much louder than my older x1 carbon gen 7. minimum fan cooler speed is 4500rpm, in my gen 7 it is 2500rpm, thats why it is louder
Love ❤️ your videos
Thanks, really appreciate it!👊
Hi, for development machine its ok?
You resemble Robert De Niro. That is why I subscribed.
Please consider putting the "Follow me" pop-ups on the left side as they clash with your watermark.
Really up to 32 GB? I think I found 16 GB on Lenovo page.
Cool review! Please, do anybody know about model on i5/8GB - is soldered 8 GB memory working as DUAL-CHANNEL or not?
This or the 2021 Matebook X Pro? Hard to beat the screen on the Matebook.
I need this one 👍🏻
Are you getting the lg gram?
Waiting on LG
What does that battery symbol mean on the usb port at 4:20? And can it power other devices when switched off?
its called Battery Bar Pro. Do a search on google for download
noice, noice, compare size od trackpad and coat feeling please
Whats that monitor you're using @12:09
I bought Gen 7, having regularly battery problem, sent twice service center, poor response and bad support
Why cant they remove the red key , its of no use these day with wireless mouse around
Not going anywhere anytime soon. the trackpoint is synonymous with ThinkPads.
Any chance of a matte screen on the gen 9?
Yes on the FHD model.
does uhd version suffer from pwm flicker?
the speaker and battery life should be great on the non 4K display!!
Please review the recently launched thinkpad x1 carbon gen 10.
Yes it is coming very soon
Will you review the new Dell Latitude 9420 ? (16:10)
Yes
@@andrewmarcdavid Thx Andrew, keep the amazing work! The company I work for will buy the new Dell 9420 for me.
Sales start next week.
Incredibly, it looks cheaper than the same configuration as this X1 carbon 9 gen.
There is not much information on the Latitude 9420 yet.
We were undecided between these two models.
I hope it has the same quality or better :)
I am waiting for your review.
Best wishes from Portugal
@@Dinoamorim Thanks!
Unfortunately No Ryzen 5000 series in Carbon...we dont need gimmick, we need 6 cores
Why do you need 6 cores on a business laptop?
@@rarinth if there is 6 cores why we still use 4 cores?
This only needs a gtx graphics card ... We need a ryzen version with dedicated graohics also
If the keyboard is anything like the Nano's, which other reviewers have mentioned, then it's markedly worse than the usual stellar keyboard you get from Lenovo. I had the Nano and found that the keyboard didn't have anything like the tactile, positive action you get with Lenovo. I compared it to my T480s and the Gen 8 Carbon, for reference. This is disappointing since the Gen 8 had already compromised some of the tactile feel of the keyboard in the interest of thinness but was borderline acceptable still (though not as good as the T480s); the new keyboards on the Nano and the Gen 9 Carbon have gone too much in that direction and lost their advantage over the competition as a result.
is it good for code
So we basically know, how to make a perfect product, bet we don't want to :-) (camera, mic and shallow keyboard).
The “AMD” on the thumbnail gave me hope for a few seconds...

Is the X1 carbon gen n9 better or M1 mackbook pro?
Depends
The M1 MBP certainly is way more efficient, but what good does it do if it comes with the wrong OS for your needs? It all comes down to the platform you need to run.
they changed keyboard? you don't touch perfection! damn
Now all it needs is an AMD Ryzen U CPU and it will be perfect.
Imagine crying for ryzen bc you didnt know thinkpads with ryzen exists

None of the X1 series has them though hence my comment. The other ThinkPads are not as good.
4:3 > 3:2 > 16:10 > 16:9. After a decade and a half of shortscreen and megabezel madness, it seems we're finally on the path back to sanity.
Those X1 Logo will stop me from buying this laptop. Put it back down on the bottom on the lid and remove it inside. Sold
Yes, I have a 5th gen and it is the last model without this ugly X1 branding on the cover. I think 5th gen is the peak of X1 carbon styling, it is beautiful. People I work with are often captivated by its elegance inquire with interest about what laptop it is; Please let the design speak for itself Lenovo.
I will take it
X1C9 vs X1 Yoga 6, please.....
Carbon fibre is nice but not for a premium
Ah ! Lenovo....
Isn't she a dream !?!?
I wish I had a wife like this....
Lol
Less key travel? Why has everything to be degraded with a new generation?
The feeling I got was that it felt slightly less but Lenovo claims 1.5mm key travel. Still is the best imo nonetheless
Lenovo, when a 3:2 display?
Check out my video on the X1 Titanium Yoga (it's 3:2)
Oh, yoga. Lol
