    Thank you for this initial review/unboxing (I first put this comment in your X1 carbon review by mistake!). I've had this X1 Yoga Gen 6 for a couple of weeks now myself (i7 version). It certainly feels and look like a premium product, as well as feeling very robust. The battery life is good (FHD not 4k display). Performance is what you would expect. BUT there are a few imperfections/annoyances also. The fingerprint reader does not recognise my finger "each and every time" as Andrew indicated (it worked better on the cheaper Thinkbook 14s yoga which I ended up returning as the laptop kept freezing). The keyboard is not like the "legendary" Thinkpad keyboards, it's a slight step away from that in my opinion, although still better than most keyboards and is decent to type on. The camera isn't great although I knew it probably wouldn't be at 720p, this doesn't seem to be a strong point for Lenovo business laptops. Thermals and fan noise seem fine to me. The built in stylus pen lasts less than an hour, so I'll be buying an additional pen which I need. Just my opinions. Overall I would recommend but it is a bit overpriced as it isn't quite perfect.

    Hello Andrew.... greetings from Europe. These expensive laptops are amazing but... can you do more product reviews for the normal people like me who cannot afford these expensive products? Because if you will remember your channel starts with just affordable products...I understand that you can make only one review at a time so you pick the best product that you have available, but the best one is almost always financially out of reach for most people...

    I think this is my favorite ultrabook for 2021: 2 in 1, matte touch display, garaged pen, decent port selection... unfortunately pricing in Europe is not as cheap as now in US (in US starting at 1174$ vs 1890€ in Eu)

    Put the name "ThinkPad" on any notebook and I'll buy it. My venerable 2005 IBM ThinkPad T60 was built like a tank and still runs strong. One of the few dependable things in my life....🧬. Just FYI Andrew - I base my purchases on your thorough reviews,

      I got a Thinkpad T60 at work (yeah, IBM) in 2007 and since then I only want thinkpads.
      Got a Thinkpad Yoga14 around 2016 and now I got a refurbished Thinkpad X1 Yoga Gen2, which if I am right was the last one in which they had the decency of including an SDcard reader, so yeah, I am extremely happy with it.

    Looks like the gen 6 is not any taller than the gen 4 or 5, as the gen 4/5 has a noticeable chin / extra bezel on the bottom, which the gen 6 made use of. Things brings me to believe that the gen 6 display might be easily swapped into a gen 4 or 5? If so, then that would be quite the upgrade from the standard 1920x1080 display my gen 4 was optioned with.

    Nice PC. Web cam is fair. These manufacturers are forcing people to choose from a mediocre class of Web Cams (720P). Mic is okay but not great. Display is nice. When you think about the privacy mode most people will use it for spreadsheets and documents and other software and will not care if display quality is compromised for these tasks. When web browsing, watching videos, movies etc. where the better display is preferable then the privacy mode will probably be turned off since they will not care who is watching them for these tasks. Like the easy access to the inside although limited things to upgrade but easy to replace battery if need be. Great First Looks review.

    Andrew, I’m really curious about that 4k Display that’s available in the X1 yoga - it’s supposed to be less glossy than the X1 carbon 4k.
    (Same Story on the x13 - the 2.5k also has anti reflection coating.).
    I’d really like to understand „how less glossy“ it really is.
    And chance you get your hands on one of these?

    Great review! Your reviews in general have really helped guide me. I am a specialty user (field biologist and teacher who gets stuck working from home a lot), and have been struggling to find a replacement machine that can do everything I can't do on the cloud. Pretty stoked on this model. Should get mine in two weeks, and will let you what I think! My current rig (x1 carbon 4th gen) is still going pretty strong after 5 years, but it has taken a beating. And, I'm really looking forward to trying a 2-in-1 and a machine with < 16:9 screen for teaching, note-taking, brainstorming, and productivity. I do some light photoshop work, too, so I'll be keen to see how this new beast compares to my current rig.

    • @whaletronic3000
      @whaletronic3000 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      OK, I've had this machine for just over a week. I wish I could add more RAM, but I absolutely love everything else about the X1 Yoga gen 6. Keyboard is quite different from my last rig (X1 Carbon gen 4, not Yoga) - shallower travel with bigger keys - but I really like it. The construction is sturdy and the hinges are solid (an improvement over my last rig). The aspect ratio makes productivity a joy, sometimes tempting me away from my bigger monitor. The screen is fabulous, and while the battery does drain faster than other things out there, it holds up well when not overburdened. I have used the built-in pen to great effect for editing and commenting on documents and images, and for taking notes and sketches during the workday. I use the different modes more than I thought: laptop mode for most things, tablet mode for media and gaming, stand mode for gaming, recipes, and consuming media. The performance is generally top notch, and I can chew through a lot of scripts and graphics generation in little to no time. I do miss the SD card reader (previous rig was microSD), but I already have a dongle that works in the old USB ports!! The mix of ports on this is judicious and welcome. in my opinion. Lastly the audio surpasses my expectations, and I prefer them over my television speakers. 9.5/10

      @@whaletronic3000 Thanks man, you're write up is helpful. I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on this too. With the battery life, I presume you have the FHD model? Are you able to get through the day with it?

    • @whaletronic3000
      @whaletronic3000 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikewaters6980 I have a WUXGA display (I love it), but I've been pushing the machine hard early on to see how it does. I cannot make it through the whole day with the stuff I've been doing recently (esp. with online meetings), but I can do simple tasks for a good long while with the monitor dimmed. For example, I've been working for several hours (4+) editing a manuscript in acrobat with my stylus and jumping on chrome to check email, etc. and I still have 6-8 hours left at this pace. I don't think I treated the battery well on my old rig (lots of running down to nothing and charging all night) and it only lasted about 1-1.5 hours with mild productivity (no Zoom), so I am stoked with the replacement.
