"I know Jacob" is one of my fav. Lines in the show. Not I KNEW Jacob... but I KNOW him, because God is not the God of the dead, but the LIVING! Such a simple line with such a powerful truth!
I think Photina represents so many of us women, in the way we have been treated and in the way we have responded to that treatment. Knowing that because of Jesus and our surrender to him, we are forgiven and found acceptable in the heart of the Father is a very great comfort. Especially when society would condemn us for our pasts. I am forever grateful for God's pursuit of me in my fallen state and His offer of redemption and forgiveness. It's been a life changing journey and the best is yet to come!
I didn't really realize what Jesus was doing here at the well before watching tis again. Another message He is giving us is that He came to be The Door and Way trough which all people are welcomed to worship Him in the Truth of who He is regardless of man's restrictions. He recognizes and loves those who have a heart to worship but were rejected by their fellow man because of one reason or another. This account is SO layered. I love it!
To me, it makes sense that the old dude had a blanket on and a fire going. He was coughing, so that means he must be sick, and most probably, running a fever that makes you feel cold. Also, seniors tend to keep their house kind of hot. I used to do some housekeeping for this senior couple that were very close to the century mark. I'm talking about a year or two close. Anyway, even in the middle of summer, they kept the house close to 85 F. They always said it was a little chilly. I know of other seniors who did the same type of thing. So, in my experience, it makes sense.
I like this episode, both for the interaction between Phatina & Jesus, & Andrew at the end. Also, i like it when you paise the videos because you teach us something about the scenes everytime. Thanks Brandon
You skipped the best part when she said she is rejected but others. "I know. But not by the Messiah." That hit me hard. ❤ But as always, great commentary, Brandon!
Listen at times to a friends music in some "reaction" Channels, and there are times I want to scream at the constant stopping after or at times, even in the middle of a transition sentence... especially those who had a background in voice and other's, I have no idea of how they came to be *reactionaries'. But, they love to pause and analyze every note, and how he shapes his mouth and lifts his diaphragm. I mean, good God !!! I just want to see if you are enjoying it, and hear you say why, later. Once or twice is one thing, but when they stop twice in every sentence, how can 'they' even truly appreciate what feelings the performance can illicit?! Brandon...You did great!!
It struck me a few years ago reading this passage that Jesus says someone else has "done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor." But no Jews ever traveled through Samaria, this was an exception, so who had done the hard work?!? Who had prepared the way for them here?!? Then it struck me that this woman was currently doing the hard work, running to the town and publicly admitting to all the things that she was ousted from her community for, by saying Jesus had told her "everything I have ever done!" This confession and change in her may have been what caused the Samaritans to consider and even believe what this Jewish teacher said. 🙂
Brandon, he’s old and sick from being depressed. He’s probably not been outside, pretty immobile, etc. You see everything is covered, no light, no sun, no light or warmth. He probably does need the fire. He also goes through a transformation as he hears the words of Jesus from sitting in a dark cold house in front of a fire ready to die to welcoming Jesus and disciples into his home talking about being in a good mood. Transformations larger and small. No great mystery.
Hi! I was at ChosenCon 2024 and stopped to say hi to you - I love your videos! Might be a long shot but do you happen to have a recording of the funny video about Judas played at the end of Day 2 (just before the Season 5 preview was shown)? He was wearing a Binge Jesus shirt where Jesus was crossed out and Judas was written in its place 😂 it was basically a funny video reel of Luke Dimyan being interviewed and his interactions with the cast. I can't seem to find it anywhere! God bless you for the work you do on this channel!
I think he's sitting by the fire because of health issues. My grandpa sometimes wore heavy jackets in the summer. He had diabetes, alzheimers, and probably a few more conditions.
I think the man whose skin smells like oranges IS the man sitting before the fire. She seems so happy with him later. He is happier too! I also think he was depressed and lonely and became cold because of that...he was trying to warm not necessarily his body but his soul.
It would be kind of strange since she's a samaritan, but we'll see! I don't really expect to see her in the series outside of a very small cameo maybe.
I think Photina’s Husband is ill, and has blanket around him, maybe has the chills, or some illness causing him to want to sit by a fire, for warmth. Just my view of it. Thanks for the commentary, Brandon👍🏼
I think Photima’s husband is sitting by the fire in a shawl dispute the hot temperature outside because he is old. It happens sometimes with advanced age (King David☺️).
Fun Fact: The black guy who speaks with Jacob at the flashback is actually the same actor who played Yemi, Mr. Eko's brother on Lost series. ON the show, he was a priest who also only appeared on flashbacks. I did not realise it was the same actor until I saw this Deep Dive video when Brandon paused exacly on the man's face hahaha.
I have always wondered why did Big James have to push the wheelbarrow all the way to Sycar and back and then push it again as they all went into the city? Couldn't he have left it near the well with Jesus?
I’m puzzled as to why Jacob referred to God breaking his hip when he jogs out to meet his visitor and back to his sons. This is many, many years before Jesus’s healing ministry and even before healing prophets Elijah and Elisha, so to me it’s strange that he recovered so quickly!
I think she would want the divorce to remarry in order to be fully out from under her current hubby but then marry her current guy. Marriage back then provided wives with certain protections if Hubby died that a single woman - especially one like her - would not have. JMO
Hey Brandon. Jacob's name was changed to Israel after he wrestled with the Angel of the LORD. After that, he reunited with Esau. I don't believe Benjamin was born yet. See Genesis 32-33. Maybe The Chosen should have had Jacob introduce himself as Israel with eleven sons, but they possibly did not because of the potential confusion it could've caused the audience. I t may also be because of the timing of when Jacob/Israel was digging this well in the show vs. historically.
What many people seem to miss about these interactions with Yeshua is that these are edge cases -designed to provide people who are willing to change with an avenue for change. And He does this in His FIRST appearance. But in His SECOND appearance He will be ruling on earth. To argue that he will allowing, women to be conducting themselves like Fatima did, is utter nonsense-in other words, open adultery will not be tolerated in His kingdom on earth. While it’s true that everyone gets a second chance, this sort of behavior simply won’t be allowed--because if it were (on scale) He would be advocating for a reality without consequences along with the destruction of His hierarchical system. Again, the point of His first coming was to give the Jews the first shot at this reign (with Him) on earth-then to everyone else. But the second appearance, which includes His reign, will be different….open adultery simply won’t be allowed. Finally, upon His return, He will exercise mass violence against the humans (and Satan) who oppose Him. Prior to this final event He brings the world to its near end (Matthew 24) by way of a planetary interaction-killing billions, and killing all life in the sea (Revelation). It seems clear that the Gospels represent one part of God-feminine love. The other part, masculine love, is the consequence component.

I really like the actor who greets Jacob in this opening scene.

The chosen did a fabulous job at depicting that scene. So thankful for The Chosen bringing that to life for us!
Thank you again Brandon!
This is one of my favorite episodes from any season. I love the interaction between Jesus and Photina. I also crack up at Andrew every time.

Great job Brandon. This season was so good. I love when Jacob said He chose us
It is my favorite. She did amazing job. I love the actris
Who hates it when you pause early? I don't. I know there's always a good reason.
Me either I love when he stops and explains Everytime

Old, sick people get cold all the time.

I do not 🥲. They’ll probably release that soon on the chosen channel would be my guess
@@TheChosenSleuth fingers crossed. Thanks for the reply!
Hello Brandon . Needed to watch today
Brandon, it's because he is ill. Take it from a nurse. People can be freezing when they are ill.
The fire is found to keep an older man warm. Older people for some reason need more warmth.
I think he's sitting by the fire because of health issues. My grandpa sometimes wore heavy jackets in the summer. He had diabetes, alzheimers, and probably a few more conditions.
Hello Brandon I just became a member October 7th 2024
Love Trouble song!
Hello Brandon 👋
I think the man whose skin smells like oranges IS the man sitting before the fire. She seems so happy with him later. He is happier too! I also think he was depressed and lonely and became cold because of that...he was trying to warm not necessarily his body but his soul.
Personally I hope she returns in season 6 and she’s one of the woman
It would be kind of strange since she's a samaritan, but we'll see! I don't really expect to see her in the series outside of a very small cameo maybe.
I think Photina’s Husband is ill, and has blanket around him, maybe has the chills, or some illness causing him to want to sit by a fire, for warmth. Just my view of it. Thanks for the commentary, Brandon👍🏼
I soooo wondered about the fireplace and shawl when Photina is sweating!!! 😂
Brandon. Old people get cold, when they sit long periods of time
Sick people too.
I thought it was a great insight about Jacob and Jesus. I haven’t heard that idea before and now the episode makes a bit more sense.
I was thinkihg the same thing sitting by a fire with a blanket on ,lol hes crazy ....? unless hes sick .
15:55 Right. That's why "he smelled like oranges"
The actor who plays the man who meets Jacob looks really familiar. Where have I seen him before?
Are you perhaps a Guild member? This is the man behind the upcoming movie "The German King" He's done several livestream about this project
I think Photima’s husband is sitting by the fire in a shawl dispute the hot temperature outside because he is old. It happens sometimes with advanced age (King David☺️).

He's also deeply involved in producing the movie "The German King", soon to be released. He's done several livestreams about this project
He was a sick man
I wonder if the well is still there and active.
I have always wondered why did Big James have to push the wheelbarrow all the way to Sycar and back and then push it again as they all went into the city? Couldn't he have left it near the well with Jesus?
😂 so true!
if he was fevered he would be chilled
My aunt said something to her (physically abusive) ex about divorce, and he said, “I bought and paid for you with that marriage license.”
Yikes 😳
😡
😡😡😡
Lol is the date right ? Or i mean the year, look at it 1952 BC
