For decreasing the "flapping" and the noise of the tarp you should use some heavy duty bungee cord between the guyline and tarp. When doing these kind of trips, I would also recommend that you read up on all the different tarp setups and the best suitable knots to use, and how to properly securing your plugs when the ground does not hold, eg sand plugs works in sand on a calm day, not in a hurricane, then you need to secure them properly or make a snow anchor ( will also work in sand )..... Best of luck
Thank you Jan for your tips! Yes I now have a square shaped tarp with proper guy lines along the edges and seams. So hopefully next storm can create a proper "tee pee" structure, which might work better to fight against wind direction change.
Extreme novice is right! Other lessons you SHOULD have learned. 1) Learn how to read weather charts, so you can predict changes in wind direction before they arrive. 2) Get yourself an emergency lightweight bivvy bag, and ALWAYS have it with you, in case your tarp gets shredded. That just might save your life.

very amusing. If you camped at the base of the cliff or twenty meters back from the edge in the trees you would have been out of the wind but in danger of branch drop. If I'm cliff camping I'll use a bivi bag and not bother with a tent or tarp. At least the rock you were next to stopped you being blown off the rock. ya got to try these things every now and then. many a climber has drunk Tuna coffee🤠🍵
Cheers mate! Yep I'm also a big fan of the bivvy bag , from my thru hiking background. After a long day of hiking I can't be bothered setting up a tarp. Climbing, obviously they are restricted by whatever the cliff provides, so bivvy bag wins almost every time. Climbers must have a good laugh at all the survivalist youtubers, cos climbers understand what you really need to get the job done. I was going to camp at the base of the cliff, but chose this spot purely for the sweeping view and had no idea that a storm was coming through. I'm sure I'll be havin some tuna can coffee again soon enough! Cheers mate!
Gday Smitty! Wind is a pain, but its manageable! Rain sucks for the unprepared and underequipped like myself. You're going into snow season now brother, boom!
Hey Jamie! Storm came out of nowhere, I don't really think things through before going out. Gets me into trouble, but takes me to some cool places. I fly out to the phillipines tonight! Im going to film a ton of videos, so should get the content going again in March. How you going mate?
@@rangatrips I’m good. Trying to crank out more bushcraft videos rather than stealth. But I’ve got an interesting camp out planned in the next couple weeks. Going to be a challenge, but should be smashing. 👍
